You spotted Stan Lee, but the person we see right before that - the one whose lawnmower drifted away from him - is Chris Claremont. He wrote X-Men comics for 17 years, and is largely responsible for the characters becoming popular in the first place. A LOT of what you see in all of the X-Men movies is built on stories he - and his many artistic collaborators - told over the years.
I did not know Claremont had a cameo here!
That's great.
Which one does Len Wein show up? I recall it's a later entry. Were there ever any others? Was John Byrne too cool to cameo? Haha
@@MykeHavoc he was in days of future past with Claremont as well in the scene where trask is being questioned by military officials
The characters Stan Lee was responsible for was Beast, Angel, Cyclops, Jean, Ice Man, Xavier and Magneto. The rest came after he was done writing the X-Men.
@@sgrvx8 whoa whoa whoa. It takes two, friend. JACK KIRBY with Stan Lee created the initial lineup. They ALSO created Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver, Toad, The Sentinels, Bolivar Trask, Juggernaut and so on. Actually READING the comics helps this.
"They should accept themselves" "Ew he grows spikes, gross". lmao
😭🎈😂😂🛒
Hahahahahahaha lol lol lol
I mean she did say "they should accept themselves", not "other people should accept them" so...
😂😂😂😂
@@billystokes3917man this is funny
In an interview, Stan Lee said it was becoming more and more difficult to come up with different origins for all of the characters, so he came up with the idea of mutants as a catch-all, which turned out to be very popular.
Very popular...eventually.
Glad he did, X-Men is my favorite Marvel property.
X-Men and Spider-Man..... probably because I was a 90s kid 😂
i was thinking about this the other day, i was like honestly boiling it down to some crazy genetic mutation makes it feel "more plausible" (i say that loosely) and keeps it simple
The woman with “Charles” after the credits is Moira, who’s in the “prequel” films, starting with X-Men: First Class.
We did also see her earlier in the movie on the equivalent of a zoom call.
Which means she should be like… 80ish in Last Stand. But timelines are so weird
remember that Moira has reincarnation powers xD
Did she watch that end credits scene?
I don't know why they made Rose Byrne Moira instead of someone like Gabrielle Haller. To start with, McTaggert was her married name. Then she's Scottish. Then, she's a geneticist. Repurposing Moira was very dumb.
watching someone get so emotionally effected by that angel scene made me smile, like, i always understood the metaphor and the whole idea that he shouldn't have to change who he is, just never emotionally impacted me
a bit bummed you didn't show my favorite scene. when one of magnetos guys is basically saying good riddance about Prof. X, and Eric shuts that down IMMEDIATELY. it really shows how much respect they have for eachother
Yeah, that's easily one of my favorite moments in the entire series. "Charles Xavier has done more for mutant-kind than you will ever know. My only regret is that he had to die in order for our dream to live". Erik and Charles always had the utmost respect for each other, even though they were almost always pitted against the other.
My fav moment as well.
It was Pyro. He makes a comment that he would have killed Xavier ages ago if he'd been allowed. That's when Eric shuts him down hard.
@@VegetaLF7 Yes, they had similar goals: The protection of mutants, but how they went about it is what engendered their conflict. Magneto is an anti-villain, he has noble intentions, but his methods are questionable at best, immoral at worst.
Yeah i like that they explore their relationship more in the reboot
“Not everybody heals as fast as you Logan” Best line of the movie
Post credit scene was Charles putting his consciousness into his twin brother body BTW, it was referenced in a throwaway line of dialogue earlier in the movie when he's taking class talking about the ethics of putting one consciousness into a brain dead person
I usually ignore that scene. It doesn't make sense
@@johandrytenias1725 it was forced for sure, but it atleast makes "the wolverine" and "logan" make more sense.
Massive plot holes though regardless
@@The_winds_of_change I don't consider it forced. That was the main plot. It was foreshadowed and set up in the previous movie, the movie opens with the establishment of Jean's hidden powers, she's responsible for the main deaths, she's Magneto's big weapon, and she's the ultimate threat in the climax, with the highest emotional beat.
How was that forced?
@@johandrytenias1725 eh? I'm on about Charles shifting his consciousness into his twin brothers catatonic body being forced, what are you on about?
@@johandrytenias1725 well you need it because of Days of Future Past.
I really liked that Nat knows Nothing of the comics backstory of the X-Men. Her fresh perspective is wonderful.
May be that's why she enjoyed this movie
Even I liked it back when it came out bcoz I didn't know anything about the Pheonix except that it's an alias of Jean Grey
@@anantsharma6365 Yeah, without knowing the backstory, it's really not that bad at all.
But once I read the comics and the story it's based off of, it's really disappointing to watch now.
Still, I don't think its anywhere near as bad as people like to make it out to be. Especially compared to some of the other entries in the franchise.
I've always loved this movie. We didn't have internet back then so I didn't know people considered this as one of the weaker films. Maybe that's a good thing that I was unaware of the hivemind. I formed my own opinion and I still love this movie to this day, even after I discovered it's poor reception.
I’m excited to see your eventual reaction to “Logan.” It’s by far my favorite of all the X-movies.
First class is the best x men movie ever made.

@@colinnixon7739 definitely top 10 for marvel
She got so emotional here. I think First Class and most of all Logan could be a hard ride :)

lol
His name is not Blue Monkey. It is Beast.
*Fun fact:* Hope you got to also watch the after credits scene, we get to see a payoff to something that was briefly foreshadowed earlier in the movie: It was mentioned that some mutants are so powerful they can even transfer their mind to another body. The last scene implied that during Jean`s attack Prof. X transformed his mind to his doctor friend`s patient that was in a vegetative state and thus while his body was destroyed, his consciousness survived.
And by the next movie he's even managed to turn it into a duplicate of his old one 🤷
@@GoroScornshard It was his twin brother who was brain dead.
I would think it for the better that she didn’t see it since the moral implications of taking over another person’s body just further cements how Xavier is portrayed as bad as if not worse than Magneto in this movie
@@emptyxsuit Even if said person is literally braindead? It's just an empty body with no conscience.
His “doctor friend” 🤣. How are you going to try to drop facts and not know Moira MacTaggert?

I genuinely can't wait for Natalie to see the Michael Fassbender version of Magneto, because the backstory they delve more into and the other actors in the movie... it's specular and rather heartbreaking.

It is vastly underrated. Plus, Kelsey Grammer as Beast may be the most perfect casting I've ever seen.
I remember saying that exact thing to friends when the first movie came out. That it came to fruition was the only good thing about this movie.
Loved it when he made a cameo in Deadpool 2!
@@RichO1701e He wasn't in Deadpool 2. That was Nicolas Hoult. Grammer only played Beast in Last Stand & Days of Future Past (& the latter was only a cameo).
Damn straight, and Nicholas Hoult is the opposite, he's not Beast at all in these movies, same with J Lawrence as Mystique
When I heard he was going to play Hank I wasn't sure, but when I saw him as Beast it clicked.
Nattie, your enthusiasm for this movie proves the point that you should always watch a movie for yourself, and form your own opinion.
Everyone gets different things out of movies, and it was really great to see this one strike a chord with you 💛
Definitely. It's pretty obvious in her reactions if she had expectations set for her or not as it usually drastically affects the reaction
She can enjoy it more because she doesn't know the comics and the characters from before. She only watches the movies for what they are, and, as movies, they're not that bad all things considered.
It's called subjectivity
@@Haiyken I'm impressed with her reactions because she is not just saying what people want to hear. I liked this film and the Phantom Menace more than most people (as did Natalie). It's also impressive that she liked Alien more than Aliens because that is not the majority opinion (although it is one that I share).
@CYB3R2K30 damn, curb your hate.
The well known line: "There's a cure?" asked the girl who kills everything she touches. "There's nothing wrond with us," replied the girl who makes clouds.
Well Storm can say that because her power is positive, it doesn't affect her appearance, nor her interaction with others, plus she was worshipped as a goddess so of course she doesn't seem to have a problem with it.
Yeah, I wish that this film series had stayed strong long enough to have reached the Morlock/Gene Nation storyline so we could explore in-depth that internal division within mutantkind, that resentment that the bottom-dwellers have for those mutants who can pass for normal.
@@eolsunder that was their point
Exactly. Storm was considered a goddess by african tribes people and worshipped. Of course she loves her powers.
You ALL forget that Storm had fear of her powers too, so she gets it, but she learned to understand why it’s important to love who you are, the fact she looks great is not the point
That’s like saying Logan shouldn’t be afraid of his powers cuz he’s hot, the logic is not sound
I think one of the reasons people love this movie when conically watching it for the first time is they aren't jaded by the months and years of pent up expectations from a theatrical release schedule. I remember the anticipation for this movie, they had teased the Phoenix story in the last one, and it was months of comic book analysis and expectations for the film... Which was sadly detrimental when the story was taken in a different direction. Watching again from a new perspectives week on week means you by no mean have the same bias and you can see the story and arch they were going for
Which is the way films should be enjoyed, the way they intended it. I think people don't realize the movies/video games/tv shows and other media that comes from other source material don't have to be direct 1:1 carbon copies of the comics. They never are for any media based on source material bc that would be boring and contrive. We love the comics for what they are but how many times do we need to see the exact same story rehashed. I loved this movie, and loved the comics, and am happy they are varied bc if it played out exactly how I knew it was going to play out, I'd be mad disappointed. To each their own though
@@MrBooligan while both of you make good points, when it come to X-3 it is almost always at the bottom of the lists when people rank the X-Men movies.
The movie *Days of Future's Past* was written to basically "Ret-Con" X-3
To basically make it so that nothing in X-3 happened moving forward with the films. Bryan Singer (Regardless of how you feel about him as a director or even as a person) directed the first two films, and those are widely regarded as two of the best films in the X-Men franchise.
X-3 is dogshit when compared to the first two entries.
Killing off Cyclops off screen!?!?!
The Phoenix getting taken out by being stabbed!?!?
Juggernaut being a punk ass who gets knocked out by having his powers weakened and running into a wall?!?!
One of the reasons X-3 is so hated by (Most) X-Men fans is because of how badly it was written.
People are fine with deviation from the source material, as long as it is well written and well executed, but they HATE it when it is poorly written and poorly executed.
The final scene between Logan and Phoenix is pure poetry, her inner tormention portrayed on his skin.
Class Action Hurricane Man is my favorite X-Man character. His sidekick, Tornado Subpoena Lad, is pretty great too.
And how to forget his arch-nemesis, Federal Impeachment Cyclone.
@@lazyatthedisco With his sidekick, the Habeas Corpse.
@@BeeWhistler This one apparently gets killed right at the beginning :(
He works at SLAPP Labs?
While the changes to Phoenix's origins is what gets most comic book readers ire raised what bothers me just as much are the changes to Juggernaut making him some mutant they just picked up during the rescue attempt of Mystique. First off Juggernaut is not a mutant, his powers come from a gem that imbues him with his powers, and secondly, most importantly, he isn't some random guy, he is Charles Xavier's step-brother and they have a long, long history.
oh wow, i don't know much about juggernaut other than what he looks and that he's strong. i also found out that the actor was disappointed that the juggernaut he played was cast aside as a lackey, when what he signed up for was a juggernaut with much more character and dialogue and importance to the story.
Well, the movies are really all over the place. and characters that should have a deeper relationship are unrelated. Like Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver being the daughter and son of Magneto. And then there being two Quicksilvers in the X-Men movies, and in the MCU. Which I get it, it was two studios who held the different rights. I am excited that it's all under one roof so in the future hopefully we can get better continuity.
That said, I've always liked the X-Men movies, and the tone they had being different from the MCU was kind of refreshing. I'll be sad to see that change. But I also feel like the Fox X-Men were around long enough that they were able to tell some great stories, have some great arcs for the characters, and flesh out the franchise. So I can't complain really. I'm glad we got what we did, and I'm excited to see where the MCU ultimately goes with the X-Men from here on out.
@@Thesmus well, hes not really an actor anyway.
Well not even the gem he is blessed by Cytorak and juggernaut walks through X-men all the time. Hell Thor, Hulk have all had issues with juggernaut
I will say besides magneto the whole franchise got them wrong. Storm and cyclops really got screwed over in these movies. Rogue, Kitty, Colosuss as well and then they don’t even have Gambit.
I think this movie jumped into the Dark Phoenix too soon. It's like, "surprise, Jean's not dead. Here, let us do a bit of retconning exposition." Bam! War.
One of the things that works so well in the original storyline is that Jean can tell that she's losing her mind and we can see how she struggles to keep it together, which makes the end all the much sadder.
They didn't retcon anything. They already hinted at her Phoenix powers multiple times in the second film.
She drowned herself because she knew that by tapping into her power she was letting the Phoenix out.
I love how this movie clearly set up a Days of Future Past movie, but by the time we actually got to that movie, everyone forgot how much groundwork this movie already did.
constructive vs destructive criticism
There was an after credits scene for this movie that was pretty important going forward. From now on, think of the X-Men movies as the same as MCU movies: they all have after credits scenes.
Oh yeah! She probably wouldn't get it, but it's super important. I think they hint to it earlier in the movie.
It always bothers me when she skips the end credit scenes because I always feel that she's missing out and not getting the whole story. And the Prof. X end credit scene from this movie ties into The Wolverine, Days of Future Past and Logan. Which means she is going to have questions those movies didn't bother answering.
@@red_Ricky She probably doesn't know. Hopefully people are telling her on patreon.
I love that she immediately described him as being like an angel, when his superhero name is literally Angel 😆
In the comics, Warren Worthington, aka Angel, is a privileged rich kid, and the other source of the school’s funds-
And you could see where Singer WOULD have taken the story, by making him a suicidal emo teen because his Father Doesn’t Understand.., 🙄
Well, he is literally everything that an angel would look like, so it’s not surprising that someone would immediately describe someone that looks like an angel as being like an angel lmao.
@@CeruleanSword Angels were described as ugly in the bible to scare demons it’s only modern media that makes them out to be beautiful
Right! Lol
Weren’t in the comics his wings mechanic and he had some healing abilities?
I understand why this movie gets so much hate- it makes some character and setting choices that really don’t jive with the previous two movies and it squanders a really interesting comic story- but personally, in the moment of sitting down and watching it, it’s always the one of the original trilogy I enjoy most.
Yes the studio had their oar in unfortunately.
The 90s cartoon has been the best adaptation of the Dark Phoenix storyline IMO.
And Cyclops wanted out so he could be cuckold by Superman.

In retrospect after the Dark Phoenix movie, this was a great film to show what Phoenix is really capable of.
Yeah, that was like the 2nd version of this movie. Dark phoenix could've been way better if the whole movie was Jean grey struggling to control her powers and slowly being able to.
The Phoenix from the movie "Dark Phoenix" was better. In this film, almost nothing was shown of Jean's abilities. And that Phoenix could destroy and create planets, so it was shown better there. This Phoenix is not clear what his strength is.
“Be your damn self you’re f*cking beautiful”
Nat, you truly are Gold lol 💛
I remember seeing this in theatres and feeling underwhelmed. But I've warmed up to it since, it's fun and has its moments.
At the time I didn't like it because having seen the X-Men cartoon growing up (yes I know I dated myself a bit there) I knew the Phoenix force was different than they showed in the movie. And I hated that they killed everyone. I think that's one reason I liked Days of Future Past so much, because they retconned a lot. It makes this movie a bit more palatable. At least for me anyway.
@@andmicbro1 It's weird how people both complain when movies kill characters and complain when "no one dies and there's no stakes." I thought this movie was great and still do, probably the best of this trilogy.
@@Goomyx1492 I honestly don't mind character deaths. But they have to be earned or it feels like a cheap ploy to get shock value. Scott's death at the beginning of X3 did not feel earned. Even if you think he's an uptight prick, and he kind of is, he's a pretty main character to just toss like that.
Not every concept in X3 was bad, but I didn't like it as much as the first two movies.
@@andmicbro1 that makes sense. I tend to look at the movies as a new version of the stories much like the comic storylines being changed every few years which is why this particular movie it one of my favorites. They character stories are great 👍🏻👍🏻
There was a post credit scene in this one that you seem to have missed. Kind of weird but also sort of explains why someone who died in this move is still around in later movies...
Yeah, that one is good to see.
Yes, you need to watch the post credit scene!!! If my memory serves me correct, it also follows along (to some degree) with the cartoons/comics and helps explain something later down the road that otherwise seems like a complete plot hole.
yes! and in comic books no one ever really dies lol
Not actually necessary, seeing as nothing involving Charles is set after this anyway (well, apart from a post-credits scene in the stupid Wolverine-in-Japan movie, and that's just a piece of garbage no one should ever watch).

Same with days of future past. I didn’t like this movie when it first came out but I definitely like it a lot more after days of future past.
I like how Natalie was talking about how no regular human likes any mutants, then thought Hank was President. :D
I really hope you'll watch Wolverine's side movies too because the second one in particular has an important arc for him that leads into the upcoming movies

@@RedEyesRobotics Origins is very much like the Last Stand or Iron Man 3....a mediocre film but has some good & heartfelt moments
Though overall it's much worse than the Last stand
Last stand is actually an enjoyable movie if one isn't already aware of the Pheonix storyline from the comics
Always liked this movie. Most of the hate comes from the fact that it's a big departure from the comic book storyline it's based on, but different takes on fictional characters/stories, never bothered me too much. The "Dark Phoenix" movie meanwhile checks more boxes when it comes to being "accurate" to the source material, but that film is just boring.
I'd like to see Disney making some of these more complicated storylines (like Dark Phoenix and Days of Future Past) into event series on Disney +, where they can go into more detail. This movie does about as well as can be expected, given it's time limitations, but I think movies like Infinity War/Endgame show that audiences can handle more buildup in return for a big payoff.
They also made a serious departure from the first two
It's ironic considering "First Class" completely veered off to make Jennifer Lawrence more important. The prequels were worse at following source material.
My problems with the film is that it's just messily put together - there are a lot of things that could have been done better. It's still carrying a lot of the fantastic resonant ideas of the comics, and there are some great moments, but overall it's a frustrating film as it just misses in so many areas
I don't know about other people, but I hate that they took The Phoenix, who was supposed to be a cosmic entity of raw power posessing a mutant woman (and Dark Phoenix, who was supposed to be the cosmic entity corrupted by human lusts and tempers), and reduced her to an autistic little girl with too powerful an organic mutant ability for her own good.
A pet peeve of mine is that when Wolverine gutted her with his claws, killing her instantly, all the objects she was levitating at the time (including half the water in San Francisco Bay) settled gently and gradually back down rather than come crashing down in an instant. The latter would have been more realistic and a good deal more exciting.

There was an alternate ending for Rogue and Bobby. Rogue never gets the cure, and when she sees Bobby, she says, "I couldn't do it, this is who I am", and you see her gloved hand take hold of his. I liked that version better.
While it would be better from a cinematic stand point, the final shot of Magneto shows that it wouldn't matter either way, and possibly could have been worse in the end. His powers returning even after having been hit with multiple vials seems to imply that the "cure" isn't actually permanent, just a temporary suppression effect.
Yes Bobby and Marie could have had some time together and been more intimate, but it would have eventually come to an end. That in and of itself could have been good, bad or neutral, same as any other relationship. But imagine if her powers returned while they were asleep together. Imagine if she got pregnant while her powers were still suppressed, but then they returned... There are so many ways it could have ended horribly and only a few where it turns out okay.
I've always identified with the Mutants.

You should never have to hear that from your parents or feel like you need to apologize for who you are. And it breaks my heart that it happens to so many.

Or Days Of Future Past.
In the comics, Bobby (Iceman) was one of the original members of the X-Men. I believe he's being included as he's a core member of the X-men team (not just a student).
I did not expect to be so nostalgic of those movies, i'm so happy you give the whole franchise a shot. Just a bit of an advice for the rest of the movies, they kind of embrace the comic books tradition of being pick and choose of your canon, what i mean is if you get confused with timelines and characters popping up, it's totally normal and not supposed to be overthought
Something to put on your radar... when you get to Days of Future Past, see if you can locate The Rogue Cut. One of the few instances of a director's cut that is absolutely superior to the theatrical release.

@@duwanglover7730 IMO... yeah.
Well, let me clarify. "Unrated/Extended" cuts are almost ALWAYS terrible. They almost always seem to be marketing ploys that just add in padding, alternate takes, etc. and other stuff that was deemed unnecessary in the original cut. The world didn't need an entirely second cut of Anchorman 2 when the first one was terrible on its own.
I suppose actual "Director's Cut" releases--where the extra material deepens the story--have a better record (LOTR, Aliens, Blade Runner), and I would put the Rogue Cut squarely into that camp.
no, she should watch what the majority of people have watched
One of the big issues with the movie, is that The Phoenix is a MASSIVE deal. Like, Thanos getting all the stones, type deal. So, imagine if Infinity War and Endgame, had Thanos as a side story just kindof shoved in there.
Ontop of all the character changes they made that didn't mesh with the characterizations in the previous movies.
Pheonix is more a massive Deal then Infinity Stones, she is in the top 5 Strongest Beings in Marvel Universe
@@kashaanalisiddqui3780 Yeah, I was just using Thanos as an example since she knows who that is :p
Yeah I heard but think in this movie it works judging it only as a movie not as an adaptation. Honestly I think it's slightly better than the first two
@@kashaanalisiddqui3780 Phoenix Force isn't as powerful as the Infinity Gauntlet in the OG 616. Read some real old school Lore.

I am so happy you enjoyed this one Nat, your reactions were perfect and it was fun watching how dialed in you were. It is largely hated by a lot of the fans of the franchise but I think it has aged the best of the first trilogy. and it always felt truer to the comic books to me. In fact the surviving team more closely resembles the team as it was when I first started reading X-Men. No Xavier, Scott or Jean(they weren't dead, just not around). Storm as the leader with Wolverine as her number two and Colossus and Kitty as mainstays. Just missing Nightcrawler but apparently Alan Cummings hated that makeup and did not want to do it again.
The real test will be X-Men origins: Wolverine. Even I won't defend that one.
I never cried in this film... but being a sympathetic crier, when Natalie cries, I can't help but shed a tear
It was interesting to see how much more someone got from this movie who wasn't familiar with the original Phoenix Saga. I think most of the plot changes were by far for the worse, but seeing your reaction realize that doesn't necessarily make the result bad.
First Class it's almost there, I can already taste it... It's my favorite X-men movie (I like it more than Days of Future Past and Logan, which are also in my top 3). James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender had to fill ENORMOUS shoes but they managed it! My favorite actors/characters for the new saga and the only one I'll miss when they recast for the MCU.
the two second cameo from hugh jackman was brilliant too!
yeah when i first saw that movie i heard it got bad reviews or something alongs those line but I enjoyed it for what it was. Especially following Charles and Erik story
Edit: I remember the trailer being really good. ua-cam.com/video/UrbHykKUfTM/v-deo.html
noone... litterally NOONE... Natalie: "Scott, you're gonna kill a bunch of fish" xD xD xD
Personally I’m most excited to see when you watch Logan! Such a great movie and very very different.
I can’t wait to see her reaction to Laura!
I'm looking forward to her reaction to Days of Future Past. That, to me, is about as epic as it can get.
We wouldn't have had old man Logan had it not been for Ryan Renolds Deadpool.
The amount of tissues that will be gone through...
First the "Angel" thing and then describing Jean like a "Supernova." It's almost like she's a mutant, capable of seeing things before they happen, like when she said, "I ask questions and they are immediately answered."
"I wonder where Mystyke is"
My god the music when Charles was fighting Jean - then during the final stand when She is finally killed - god so emotional!
Natalie: You're beautiful! Don't ever change anything about yourself!
Also Natalie: Ew! What's coming out of him!
We’re all waiting for her to see the Finale of the series of films. Her reaction will be epic !!!
Hearing you say about the name you choose is your “real name” as a trans man it’s so unbelievably uplifting to hear you talk about ‘real names’ like that 💕 I adore your content with every part of my soul
Trans woman here and I heartily agree! 🌈❤
Yes but also, legally, you can choose your real name. RuPaul, Madonna, Emilio Estevez. None born with those names but now it’s their real name. I get what you meant tho and can appreciate it but just thought I would add that. Bigotry will always exist in one form or another against one group or another but human rights should be universal. It’s when we put everyone into their little boxes that we forget that despite who we love, what we believe in, or our skin color, we are all people. Even the bad ones. When we stop treating people like people we lose a bit of our own humanity in the process. 👍🏾✌🏾👊🏾
For every thing in this I liked, there was something I didn't:
Magneto was an idiot. 🤬
Kelsey Grammer's Beast was fantastic. 😍
Scott's death had no impact because of how underdeveloped the character was. 😣
Rogue's struggle with her powers was heartbreaking. 😢
A bunch of new characters were indroduced that had little/no personality. 🙄
Wolverine wasn't the center of everything. 🤗
So I get why people are split on it. I'm glad I saw it, but I won't be watching it again.
Night crawler didn’t return😟
One thing I remember about this release year, there were a few movies which wrecked the Golden Gate Bridge. In fact, wrecking the Golden Gate bridge seemed to become a style between 2006-2015+
I knew you were gonna enjoy this movie. Personally, this is my favorite X-Men movie. It came at a time were trilogies were the big thing and not cinematic universes, meaning that they didn't worry about seting up the next movie, but instead, wrapping all up. No other X-Men movie since then had reached this level of epicness. The Phoenix storyline fits perfectly with the plot, and I love how all points of view clash in the end. That scene between Logan and Rogue always hits me. Seriously this must be like the most underrated comicbook movie of all time, and I'm glad this reaction video exists to prove that.
I never understood the hate for this movie! It still has some of my favorite moments of the X-Men movies!!
For me that is mostly because of how different from the source material it is. The previous ones had some differences as well, but this one went beyond alternate timeline like and into strange fanfiction made by someone that does not care about or understand the source material. Though some things I am assuming they did not want to setup for a bigger universe such as the Phoenix being alien that possessed Jean or Juggernaut getting his power from deity instead of being a mutant, I cringe watching this too much to care about what is going on. Plus, Rouge is my favorite character, how am I supposed to like it when they nerf my girl like that?
Hey Natalie, hope you’re doing well and having a great day! 😊
The only mutants that were “forced” to get cured in this movie are the violent ones that were attacking people. They were “cured” to be stopped.
If I’m remembering right anyway since it’s been years since I’ve actually seen the full movie.
I really liked Last Stand. When it first came out, it was the least popular of the original series, but I really enjoyed this one. It's my second favorite, behind X-Men: First Class. However, if you count the spin-offs, Logan is one of the best Super Hero movies ever made (even though it semi-retcons Last Stand).
I cannot freaking wait for you to react to LOGAN!!! I think you're going to absolutely love the film. Keep the awesome content coming ma'am :P
in a bubble, the last stand isn't that bad of a movie. But as a fan of the Dark Phoenix saga and Phoenix Force saga, it was a nightmare lol. Glad you liked it.
Exactly. If you don't know anything about the Phoenix Force, it's fine. But my inner geek cringes the whole time.
@@ProtusMose hell yea😂
Someone at the studio decided to test out a Dark Phoenix movie, when they could have planned out a whole series of movies based on the comics and laughed all the way to the bank. Someday.
I hope MCU handles it well when they start bringing mutants in and I want Michael fessbender as Magneto no one else
@@nickpeterson8659 to think they fucked up the Phoenix saga twice in the same franchise is insane to me
28:20 She's like a freeking supernova
Once you know the origin of Phoenix powers you find that line ironic
LMAO! I caught that too
Search the deleted scenes there’s a really cool deleted audio sequence that plays during Phoenix vs prof x and they are telepathically speaking to each other. She says things like “I’m much stronger than you” and “you’re slipping professor”
That is literally the very first "Passionella" reference I've ever come across in the wild. We did "Apple Tree" in '94 at Chattanooga School of Performing Arts (I was the Serpent) and that was easily the most fun I've ever had on stage.
I hate how out of character Magneto is in this movie. It's suggested that he only cares about mutants because of their powers but the other movies make it clear that he cares about mutants as individuals. It's insulting how they treated the character in this movie.
Nah. My favorite magneto is the one from the 2000s comics where he gives no shits about sacrificing mutants to further his goal of a mutant paradise
Some context for this film: Bryan Singer, the director of the first 2 films, left to work on Superman Returns. He took James Marsden, some writers, and a few others with him. Fox insisted on keeping their release date and hired Brett Ratner to direct instead.
That's why Cyclops has such a small role and why the tone feels different.
Superman returns was godawful
In the comics (1980s), The Phoenix becomes so powerful, she flies to a distant star and 'consumes' it. A planet orbiting that star is destroyed, killing the billions of inhabitance. She returns to Earth and fights the X-men who believe she will kill everyone on Earth. Wolverine has a chance to kill her but cannot bring himself to do so. Jean, in a moment of sanity, tells Scott she can't stop The Phoenix every moment of every day. She kills herself. Years later, the Fantastic Four find a telekinetic cocoon where the real Jean lay. The one who sacrificed herself was a cosmic being that took her place. Like a Phoenix, the real Phoenix returns. Comics, oh well.
Even with a Marvel Unlimited subscription and pandemic-levels of free time, I’ve never managed to find where they soft-retconned that. Phoenix: Endsong was a fan-frickin-tastic story when I read it, but couldn’t make heads or tales of it with Death of Phoenix and early X-Factor I read as a kid.
08:45 The location where the mutants were discussing the Cure before Magneto recruited the Brotherhood, is the abandoned church used by Cloak & Dagger in the comics.
09:18 She has the Mutant Detection power that was normally ascribed to Caliban. She is referring to a scale of powers as if it were exponentially scaled like a Richter scale or Warp scale.
I think I might give this movie another chance after 15 years. The reason I deeply disliked it was because of the buthcering of the Phoenix storyline but since Nat's not familiar with any of that and just judge the movie on its own dramatic containment has given me another perspective... that why I also love your reactions.
I'm a lot more tolerant of it now we have had First Class and DOFP and can see this as more an entertaining side story rather than what was effectively the end of the X-men movies boxed in with nowhere to go. At the time I thought it was an abomination not only as it had the barest resemblence to the Phoenix storyline except in name, it also killed off characters for what felt like shock value and the characterisation felt forced for the sake of the story. Now we've had a couple of decent films (I like the first two anyway), we had Logan, and the whole MCU has shown people have an appetite for longer term build up of characters, so it's not the death of the franchise it seemed to be at the time and I can give it a pass for what it is.
and yet people have no problem Spiderman and Hulk getting butchered by Disney MCU
@@IamNinjaOfNinja I wouldn’t say butchered, plus they both have been in multiple movies in their own right, people know them, not too many people really know Jean Grey
"whats the point of being blue" DAMN Natalie, like he can control that haha
For a second I thought she was referencing a song from Steven Universe. But no, that one is called "What's the Point of FEELING Blue".
Beast:

Da ba dee da ba di
tbf canonically in the Fox films he can, he's just ceased caring by the events of this film
When I was stationed in Alameda, Ca., my ship would sail right under the Golden Gate Bridge. Loved that view!!!
In the comic and the 90s cartoon, Rogue also had superhuman strength and the ability to fly. In the cartoon she had a southern voice as she was from Mississippi.
I actually enjoy this when I watched it million years ago and I can see I will still enjoy it now.
Other people are actually laughing at me when everytime I say that this movie is good😅
If they laugh, just ask them to defend their point of view. There is a likelihood you have a valid explanation for enjoying it.
Agreed, I enjoy the movie. Quality-wise, I feel it's an upper middle-tier superhero movie with plenty going on for it, and it came out 2 years before "Iron Man" and "Incredible Hulk", and one year before Raimi's Spider-Man 3
This era of Marvel movies felt very "DC" in style (not necessarily in execution, though), and the studios were still figuring out how to do a superhero movie, after the relatively surprising success of Raimi's first Spider-Man, 4 years prior.
You can tell that the movies from that era were riding on and hoping for the success of Spider-Man, but weren't embracing the "fantasy" of a superhero genre as much as it had done - cheese and goofiness and all.
People want the fantasy, and shows that are more grounded and gritty have to work extra hard for the same recognition.
For a long time I was afraid to admit this was actually my favorite X-Men movie
the class4, class5 thing they brought up for the first time tied in with the 'cure'. Magneto was a class4 so needed 4 doses if they had gone after Jean, they would have needed 5 (if they could even get it close to her).
So mystique is class 1?
@@ukuviispert9599 good point,,just trying to figure it all out. Her dart did look bigger, maybe an extra large dose?? She would seem to be higher than that (?).
Natalie - as you progress in the series, I highly recommend you watch 'Days of Future Past: Rogue Cut' instead of the theatrically-released 'Days of Future Past'.
What's in the Rogue Cut?
@@Aldridge517 Without giving anything away - additional footage, and an added aspect to the 'future' story
A small detail but in the first movie it's Logan on the metal patient table and its Jean Grey overseeing him when he appears asleep then suddenly grabs her wrist, and in this movie, it's the other way around, it's her on the metal patient table seemingly asleep and it's Logan overseeing her and she suddenly grabs his wrist :)
Also another reason why this feels totally different from the first two movies is because it has a new director which was Brett Ratner. That's why there's a lot of things that are put in this film that were never mentioned before like classes etc.
Growing up, I was huge into X-Men comics (Blue and Gold era, X-Force and X-Factor, and later on Age of Apocalypse). The 90's animated series is to this day one of my favorite cartoons of all time. That said, I think for fans like me this movie unfortunately fell totally flat. Neither of the Phoenix movie adaptations have done the saga any justice whatsoever. But I can see how to someone not familiar with the source material they could still be enjoyable.
Exactly. I was like 8 when this movie came out, so for me, it was pretty great!
But getting older and actually reading the story and how much of an impact it made, and then going back to watch this, I totally understood why people were so pissed off.
I liked seeing Kitty have a big part. She was my favorite X-Men character as a kid.
I liked seeing Ellen page as a girl one more time, didn't really watch her other movies, other than inception while ago, before she transitioned.

He's gone head-first into doorways a few times, but he hasn't learned yet, lol. He's a tiny dog, so thankfully now I just hold him out far from me as I set him down, and he can't push off me that way.

Ahhhhh I love that you love this movie!! Slowly becoming my new comfort channel lol. I love this movie too. I'll never forget seeing it in theatres when I was younger and I absolutely loved it. I will not deny the obvious issues with the movie (difference from the comics, rogues choice to take the cure, killing Charles, etc) however the movie as a whole is extremely entertaining. Ultimately it fell victim to peoples expectations being totally different than what was offered up. The same thing sort of happened with Wandavision finale - does this inherently make a movie bad? Definitely not. It's just kind of sad that this movie snow-balled the Foxverse desperately trying to undo those events and making the time-line extremely confusing.
These movies do a great disservice to Cyclops, just because they like Hugh Jackman.
In the comics, no love triangle, Logan and Jean are never a thing.
Cyclops is actually very powerful, and is the de facto Leader of the team. These movies singlehandedly casted Cyclops out of the spotlight for ever, who has more potential than Wolverine, who I like a lot but still.
But: Cyclops always hides his eyes. Ok in a comic, not so good in a film. Scott is intelligent, acts as a leader, and fits in well with the X-Men hierarchy, while Logan is an overpowered underdog and perpetual contrarian who's still reliable and a good team player. It wasn't about the actor or a random thing: Logan was always going to make a better main character (to the point that they had him nope out of the First Class film).
It's not just Hugh Jackman, dude. Wolverine owned the two decades of comics that led up to these movies. He was never not going to be the focus of the franchise.
No love triangle??!! Have you read the comics. There has alway been a love triangle
@@TheCmducks That's an actual load of bs. Clearly you haven't read the comics.
I think between hundreds upon hundreds of issues, prior to the Huge Jackedman movies, Wolverine made a pass at Jean once or twice, who she rejected completely, no nonsense. And be moved on.
Go read some.
@@rainofkhandaq6678 in the last comic I read it was implied scott jean and logan were in a three way relationship in several of the 80s comics in alternative times lines jean was with logan and logan sacrificed his relationship with her to restore the time line
I love the irony of Magneto suviving the Holocaust, uses it to further his agenda and fights for mutant freedom. But he's willing to commit a genocide to do it. In the end, Magneto was turned into the very monsters he hated as a child. A sad story really, because I believe that somewhere deep down Magneto is a good person
I love the fact that they kept using and developing the same main villain throughout the trilogy without feeling repetitive
Magneto’s story in X men 1 - 3 is very relatable and understandable, they did a great job with that arc.
Similar to how the Israeli Government is hellbent on committing genocide against the Palestinian people, the natural inhabitants of the land
I recently found this channel and I'm really enjoying going through all her older videos. I'm really glad that Natalie is enjoying the comic movies. The thing that really makes these first 3 X-Men movies special for me is that this is the first time that they've had the technology and the budget to make these movies like this. For example, look at the Superman movie with Christopher Reeves that came out in 1978. That was one of the best made comic movies made before X-Men (2000) and look at how cheezie the special effects look in that Superman movie. I was so happy when X-Men came out in 2000 because it was the first time that they actually had the technology and the budget to really do that kind of movie the way it really needed to be done.
GREAT JOB - I started reading Marvel Comics in the early 60s - love what your doing
A lot of us enjoyed this film. I'm glad to see a wave of recent reactors watch this film and see how fun it is rather than fall into the comic book frat bro consensus of "it's soooo bad!"
It is bad though
If you can enjoy it I'm glad for you but just understand those people saying it is bad have valid reasons for doing so. If there is anything you are actually passionate about (movies, music, books, games, sports, whatever) imagine somebody turning it into a new movie and completely changing just about everything you enjoyed from it. So you get all geeked up to see something then find out they didn't even try to be accurate and instead took a giant steaming dump all over that thing you enjoy. I don't think you would be happy either.
Days of future past, you kinda get the “civil war” type vibe. Personally I like it not for the fact that you actually see ppl get merked but its a clean slate.
