      A bit of both. Virtually all SovCits exhibit some kind of mental issues. Most of them seem to have oppositional defiance syndrome. But honestly, a bigger part of it is just low education and low intellect. They don't know how to behave themselves.

      Why is he engaging with this fool. Order him to appear in court or hold him in contempt. Don’t keep going around and around with him. Don’t ask him for permission to hold him in contempt, tell him in no uncertain terms.

      Yep - this is how sovcit "defenses" are incorreclty viewed as successful by other sovcits. They point at cases like this one as a sovereign citizen "beating the system" when in reality, the cases were dismissed for reasons having nothing to do with his arguments. It's the judicial system working as intended, but sovcits don't realize this.

      Exactly - seen this numerous times where the cops no-show. What is not seen in dismissal cases like this are where the tickets resulted in the car being towed and the sov cit cannot get it out of impound (or it costs them a fortune to get it out) or the actual car owner has to pay the tow fees and storage to get the car out.

      @@michaelinhouston9086 I'd say Covid creating a big upswing in the number of courts allowing Zoom swings, probably for good, has also helped. Nowadays, I see police attending Zoom hearings from their police station and sometimes even their squad cars. It's a lot more convenient for them.

    The Court should have denied this defendant the privilege of appearing via Zoom the moment he became disrespectful and argumentative. I like this judge, but he seems to allow too much leeway to Sovcitizenry bluster and obfuscation. Get some manners, appear in person, and behave like an adult. Maybe for once in your life .....?

      Judges have to be careful to make sure they offer every possible opportunity to exercise their rights else the judgement or ruling could be overturned on appeal. Though recently appeals courts have been flexing a bit much lately.

    This is where the court system is wrong, a defendant can get continuance after continuance and the officer doesn’t turn up once and the case gets dismissed. The prosecutor was too weak to be a fortnight if you ask me because she should have asked for a continuance but didn’t say a word. Now you have this clown who has wasted all this time and taxpayers money getting away with his criminal activities which he will no doubt carry on doing now he thinks he won the case .
    Plus I don’t think this judge is cut out to deal with sovereign citizen cases because he never had control of the proceedings in the first place through our all of this and was show nothing but contempt from the get go .

      "Practicing law from the bench" implies that the Judge is assisting either the defense or the prosecution. You don't practice law from the bench. You just arbitrate it between prosecution and defense.
      Sovcits use the term because they think that when the Judge rules against them (the sovcit) they are assisting the prosecution because to sovcits, they think the judge did not see their reasoning and therefore must be biased towards the prosecution.

      I can't remember all the judges, is this the same one who had a hearing where a woman was suing some guy for $10,000 for a date that didn't happen and the judge not only let her wander around the airport for the entire time and dominate the case, but he spent like 15 minutes yelling at the guy who was being sued who had said like one sentence the entire time?

      No, sov cit have "won" many times in courts before . Just like what you see today, absolutely none of those wins were because of sov cit arguments . It is usually because the prosecution dropped the ball , or the sov cit in question managed to get a competent attorney.

      It stinks, but this is how things often go. That's just how the system works. Officers have other obligations and don't show, so cases get tossed. The sovcit will interpret this as them "beating the system," when in reality this was the system functioning as intended.

      Cops not showing up to court was a big problem in Houston until the judges insisted the DA subpoena them and then the judge could hold them in contempt for not showing up. Magically cops almost never missed court after that. Also, don't discount the possibility that the DA told them the wrong date or time or court location or the cop just wrote it down wrong.

    The judge should have had this in person because the contempt this guy is showing is disgraceful and he would have been taken into custody right away for the way he spoke to the judge.       Legit, for a lot of traffic tickets if you stay neutral or polite, take the ticket, plead not guilty and go to court, there's a decent chance you'll get it dropped. If there's nothing exceptional about the ticket or memorable about your behavior at the stop, the cops often don't show up because it's a pain in the ass.

    They should just tell them to pack up since they are not citizens and be ready to leave. Ask them which country they wish to go to and send them on their way. I bet they claim citizenship pretty quick.

      I’m sure they are not lazy, probably tired of going to court only to have the judge throw out half or more of the charges!!! And delayed, delayed, and dismissed!!!

      @@jcfanonly - A lot of times people automatically blame the judge or prosecutor when the case summary says the charge was dismissed, and the reason it was dismissed is because someone didn't show up. Not the judge's fault, not the prosecutor's fault, it's the missing witness's fault.

    OK Judge, I threatened you, I clearly don't respect you but I don't want a jury I want YOU to deterimine my guilt. Then and only then can I claim you were biased. With a jury who can I blame when they find me guilty? I'm so sharp I should be an attorney myself, no I should be Judge. GET OUT OF MY CHAIR PERKINS, THERE'S A NEW JUDGE IN TOWN. This gentleman strikes me as being more than fun to watch, he strikes me as being dangerous.

    BTW, I really appreciate Judge Perkins. He dealt with the defendant appropriately; although, he could have (maybe should have) given him thirty days for contempt, he didn’t. Hicks is the most grouchy, disrespectful man I have seen, in a long time. I don’t know what happened to make him so angry; but, I’m sorry for him. I can’t see anyone, besides his family members who loves him, that would want to be in his presence. 😢
    Note: I support our police officers-the 95% that are ethically, fulfilling their duties. I’m hopeful that the future will continue to bring about the necessary changes-changes that would allow the 95%, to assist and encourage the 5%: uphold the Code Blue standards!

    If those cops were subpoenaed and failed to show then they should be held in contempt under MCL Section 767A.9. They've only put wind in this SovCit's sail, which will only make him even harder to deal with next time he's in court.
