It’s generally not tolerated in criminal or family zoom court but traffic court gets all the whack jobs.
Most work from home jobs also adhere to a dress code if your job entails being seen on video calls.
I wonder if they just don't care in order to move the docket along. But it's insane that some of these judges just let people on in nasty pajamas, walking around jiggling the phone, but another judge postponed the entire hearing for like 3 weeks because the guy was on zoom court wearing a Jaws t-shirt. Didn't even give him like a minute to put on a sweater or switch shirts, she was just like "THIS SHIRT IS DISRESPECTFUL AND I WON'T HAVE A HEARING WITH YOU TODAY".
I agree I think they should stop this Zoom nonsense unless the person is sick or has circumstances that warrant zoom otherwise people should have to go to court Covid is over go back to respect of court

Also, he clearly stated he registed and insured the truck AFTER he was ticketed for it. Meaning he's GUILTY, because at the time of the offense, he wasn't insured/registered.

but this judge will dismiss the case if you provide current registration and insurance. For others that is.

The purpose of the fine is to encourage compliance with the law to register and insure your vehicle. When a defendant complies with this overarching principle, most judges and prosecutors are happy to dismiss because the goal was achieved: compliance with the law.
Remember that "dismissed" doesn't mean "not guilty", it just means "unwilling or unable to further prosecute".

Right in the middle of the sale. He was exchanging documents when somebody came up and stole the truck. Then he blacked out and when he came to, he saw that he’d accidentally forgotten the date on the insurance contract, no wait, some big boys came up and removed the date from the contract with a secret potion. That was it.
You know he’s exactly the sort of guy who starts with “I ain’t sayin’ nothin’” then blabbers away with different excuses and alibis but doesn’t have brain power to remember what he said and contradicts himself time after time.
The next court date he should be required to appear IN PERSON in the COURTROOM so when he starts acting the fool, we all get the satisfaction of watching the cuffs go on and the walk of shame of this fool out of the courtroom!

You send a traffic court judge, who looks at insurance cards all day, a fraudulent insurance card, then get mad when he calls you out on it? Where is the common sense? Now you have a warrant for 30 days when you could have just paid the ticket.

@@bradspringer2372 : You had lots and lots of people sitting around twiddling their thumbs, just waiting for their case to be called (which might take hours in a busy court), not to mention all the time spent driving to court, searching for parking, etc., etc. At least with online court, you can be doing something else, maybe something productive, while waiting for your case to be called.
They should set up some type of system like the hospital in the city. Gives you an approx time of when you'll be called in real time as court is happening. As some cases take longer. They do really gotta figure the time issue out tho

Some people think being in their own home or car on Zoom means they don't have to show any respect to the judge. Or maybe they'd be that way in the courtroom as well.
It does usually insulate them from any *immediate* consequences, which makes them feel like they got away with it. Until the cops show up and they get arrested.

As part of the sign in process the person should also be required to show the front address number of where they are currently on the building complex not a piece of mail. It would also stop the stupid of people walking through malls or down the street while in court.
Probably not with the bailiff right there, but it’s unwise to underestimate the stupid, so I’m sure some would.

@@daithipol Back in the Old Testament, God called out the Jews and gave them instructions how to live as separate from the world. Beards, hair and clothing was part of that rightly dividing, showed how important proper division is. Seems the beard may symbolize strength and manliness. (Was shameful if the enemy plucked your beard). God teaches proper division, man looking like a man, not a woman. The Amish have a certain way they think they're to stay separate from the world like that. Amish men wear a beard one way til they've married and different after, think the Jews do that too (I'm no beard expert, just see patterns). Muslims do it because Mohammad did so varies depending whether they follow Sunni or Shitte. Here's some Bible verses about beards if interested (2Sam 10:3-5, Lev 19:27, Isa 50:6, PS 133:2, Jeremiah 48:37). 1Cor 11 is for men and women now. I personally like the variations in beards, can know who follows what easily.

Not sure about Detroit, especially for relatively "minor" things like contempt. Doubt they will send someone to his address to pick him up, but maybe the warrant will be enough to get him taken to jail the next time this guy gets stopped by police.

Yeah, but the courts will almost always dismiss the case if the defendant can prove they fixed the problem (uninsured, not registered, etc).
But he DID NOT have insurance when he got that ticket. I don't think it would be dismissed at all...auto insurance isn't retroactive.
Last time I was pulled over, my insurance card had expired by 2 days. $700 ticket. Luckily I found the new card in a stack of mail I opened and when I went to court I showed the judge, and he dismissed the ticket. Now I have the app on my phone for this very reason.

The best part we all know that he is not going to show up. And there’s going to be a warrant out for his arrest, and the judge is going to add more jail time. Because this judge is no nonsense or we are going to see a part two and he’s going to say that he apologizes from the bottom of his heart and he’s just going through a rough time.
And is living with (off of) his sick grandmother, who he will be supporting with the new job starting Monday.

I’m an attorney and the piece of advice I give to my clients is always be rude and aggressive to the judge. If you intimidate the judge or belittle them they will almost always just let you go.

watching these videos, I find myself wondering if poor Judge Perkins really does preside over literally the worst judicial district in the universe like it seems, or if this is just how the world is and how people act in court now 🤔
Detroit has been quite bad for years now. The city chased most of the productive citizens out of city limits years ago, and what is left are many folks like this guy, bottom of the barrel. They used to have 2+ million living in city limits. Last I read about Detroit it was down to 600+ thousand.
In short, Detroit is a clown show.
What did he not understand about "I need something with the date on it"? It's very simple. The date is needed to corroborate what he's saying that he got is registered and insured right after he was stopped and the ticket would have probably been forgiven and tossed.
Well actually I've seen Judge Perkins actually call the customer service of the insurance company to verify coverage. He knew this guy didn't have reg or ins.

I have seen some of these videos where they send a sheriff deputy to the house while the person is on the zoom call. But even then it's only like twice.

What he told the judge about the vehicle being sold was likely the truth, because he just looks like the type to buy something he couldn't possibly keep up the payments on. Then he went and got insurance only long enough for the vehicle to be "stolen at gunpoint" and to get a payout on his claim. Just my guess. If I were the judge, I would certainly want to see that police report.

There is something terrible wrong in this country. My parents, who've been married 56 years now, taught us to respect authority & to respect elders. We were strongly advised not to bully others. My mom would still spank me to this day if I acted like this. My sister & I are so thankful we were raised in a moral home with all of our grandparents nearby. This is sad.
