  • I was fishing for salmon and caught this big northern pike. I was casting a Thunder stick crank bait which I bought at Park Bait shop. The Salmon season has started. People have been catching them every night now on glow spoons like KO Wobblers and Moonshines.

    Man that’s so crazy! Great catch! So cool how those harbors hold pike, and big ones at that. I lived there in ‘12 when we had that freak heat wave in March. Saw a bunch of pike swimming around in Belmont harbor but none like that lol. Sheesh.

      They appear to be feeding pretty good in the harbors. They're only going to get bigger. Thanks!

    We like to fish as a family. The only thing we've caught on the lakefront since we started fishing a few years ago are 1 smallish perch, 2 rock bass and about a thousand gobies.

    Earned a new subscriber here my friend 🤘🏻 I just recently got back into fishing. I’m on the south side, definitely going to go back to some of these harbors, fished there as a kid long ago! Got to fish down in Missouri recently and try out my new gopro, but only landed a lonely bluegill haha. What length of net do you recommend for the harbors? I’m thinking mines too short

      @Jesus312Fishing  Рік тому

      Thanks for subscribing. You'll need at least a 7' net. Salmon will be around for 2 more weeks. Trout and Steelhead will follow and by December it will be lake trout season. Good luck out there. Make sure to get a big net if you want to land a big fish.

    When is the best time and when can one fish for salmon in Chicago?

    • @Jesus312Fishing
      @Jesus312Fishing  Рік тому +1

      King salmon started at the begging of September and the run will be over soon. As for best time. It all depends but night and overcast are the best times.

      Good luck to you Bill. I love watching your channel too.

      Jesus was lucky. Hooked that rear treble so the line was not exposed to the Pikes teeth. I like 20 lb green color PowerPro braid. Sometimes I add a swivel followed by a 20-30lb flourocarbon clear leader.

    • @Apostle_Fishing
      @Apostle_Fishing Рік тому

      @@michaelmccormick1016 I’ve seen people use a wire to keep the pikes teeth from cutting the line but I’ll have to put some heavier stuff on my baitcaster. This 10lb braid ain’t doin it.

    First time targeting salmon any recommendation on what harbors to hit?

    • @Jesus312Fishing
      @Jesus312Fishing  Рік тому

      The salmon are in all the harbors. Try going to what's easiest to get to. The most papular is Montrose but it gets shoulder to shoulder. Try harbor hopping Belmont, Diversey, by the McCormick or 63rd. They all produce fish. Just go out and look for people fishing. She what other are doing. Watch how they land and net a fish.

      Not just you, salmon fishing has been super tough in Chicago last several years. You need to keep going, do your research, talk to people, plenty of UA-cam videos. It will happen eventually

    • @Jesus312Fishing
      @Jesus312Fishing  Рік тому +1

      It takes time. I took me a few years to figure them out. Talk to other fisherman and she what they're doing and using. Just keep trying.
