Eric Idle, you were my neighbour for many years and I remember you practising various Beatle melodies outside on your balcony on the first floor in Kensington and Chelsea. It was covered with shingle and you gave my brother football tickets to go to Chelsea football club. We loved you then and we love you now. Nudge-nudge say no more!
Being a Beatles, George Harrison, and Monty Python mega-fan, I flipped out when I saw the title of this video! And it does not disappoint! I absolutely love Eric's hairstyle here. So cute. :)
Eric Idle and George George Harrison were good friends. if he and his business manager Dennis O Brien had not financed life of Brian , through forming handmade films , most likely it would not have been made. the pythons had just lost finding for it from EMI
Never thought I would hear a metal version of here comes the son played by Eric Idle but it’s just made my Saturday morning all the better for having heard it.
"If you enjoyed this half as much as we have, then we enjoyed it twice as much as you" is hilarious because Michael Palin said the exact same line after recapping the Bournemouth Gynecologists' one-sided shutout of the Watford Long John Silver Impersonators in a Monty Python's Flying Circus episode. Only difference was Palin got the 16 tons.
I actually did this version of HCTS in a comedy revue at my place of work (about 10 years after this performance). I wasn't sure that anybody else had seen the episode and "got" the joke. But I capo'd up the full seven frets. Eric only has it around 4-5 frets, for some reason.
@@sratus Wow! Thanks for that opinion on something you know absolutely nothing about. London Calling: They said shut the fk up. Idle is an incredible musician. He has written and recorded an unfathomable amount of music for himself and others. If he missed a note it was on purpose. Now, off ya piss!
Beatles+ Monty Python= Perfection. Probably why Eric Idle is my favorite. Best friends with George, which essentially got me into Monty Python's Flying Circus, and he's just hilarious and a cutie. 😍
I’ve got a Gibson LG like this one, shorter neck though. Very nice sounding guitar once you knock off the plastic bridge and nut and replace them with rosewood and bone
Unequivocally, Eric Idle’s version of Here Comes The Sun is way better than what George Harrison could’ve imagined. I just don’t know why George didn’t have Eric sing backing vocals on this Beatles classic song.
George Harrison mortgaged his house and paid to make the Monty Python movie, because Eric and him were good friends, and they sent a copy to George and he laughed out of his chair.
One time while hosting SNL Eric Idle recreated a Python sketch word-for-word with Gilda Radner and Bill Murry- the game show routine. Anyone have that one?
I saw the guy in the blue shirt in the background and thought, "Is that John Belushi acting weird?" No, it's Joe Cocker! Acting weird! (During this time he was having major drug issues)

I always thought Idle was "the cute one" of the Pythons.
lets not forget the rutles
@@monoped8437 Get Up and Go and Piggy in the Middle are 2 of my favorite "Beatle" songs.
Eric just tweeted, and if this is from his appearance in January '77, then that is the night he met his wife Tania, still together 44 years on.
Never thought I would hear a metal version of here comes the son played by Eric Idle but it’s just made my Saturday morning all the better for having heard it.
I thought it sounded more punk rock but it was heavy.
Yep..my Saturday too. 🌞
In 6th grade for choir, we had to sing here comes the sun for a concert. This is far superior. I am not even joking we sounded horrible.

Eric Idle was parodying the new punk rock sound that was dominating England.
Good to see the great Joe Cocker in the background
Yes! Yes! Yes! That was THE NIGHT that Belushi and Joe sang together! Epic!
Cocker was jonesing hard that night. He was in bad bad shape.
@@JTLaser1 I thought Cocker had a beard for that one.
I'm not arguing, just saying
Seeing the original SNL cast together like that is a trip back through time.. Thanks.
Big time!
Eric Idle is soo funny. I LOVE Monty Python AND The Beatles so seeing this is just what I needed to end my crappy night.
Eric idle is indeed magnificent

This shows you that not only is Eric great at comedy, but he has great musical talent.
It's really not difficult to play that at all if you have a basic grasp of the guitar and he messes it up.
He may be messing up for comedic effect ...
you're dead right. He wrote the Galaxay song, among many others.

When George Harrison shifts into Mister Gumby in 0.12 seconds.
I have the double-volume book set of the entire Monty Python TV series scripts, and both of them are signed by Eric Idle. 😃
This was the show where Belushi imitated Joe Cocker so brilliantly on stage right next to him. The great old days!
Belushi's performance was so devastating that Cocker started unconsciously imitating him!
We found the fifth Beatle!
I remember seeing this when it aired. Pretty dadgum funny!

Is that Joe Cocker in the background with the 'stuff' t-shirt?
excuse me
It is, well spotted. Belushi did a Cocker impression right next to Cocker during "Feeling All RIght".
Yes it is. Joe was the musical guest that week.
OMG I've waited so long for this to be uploaded by someone! AWESOME! LOL
I thought it was George at first.

Is there any more clips of Eric on SNL? I'm in love.
There are at least three episodes with Eric, so probably so.

I legit thought that was George in the thumbnail.
George must have had laughed out loud in heaven...🤣😂

Looks well like Harrison really.
They -Eric and George- sometimes look like brothers ;)
And both kind of look like Stig O'Hara, from The Rutles.
