  • This demo shows how to set a white balance for infrared images without a profile and without using any white balance or color temperature controls. It uses Photoshop, but it can be done with any raw editor supporting curves.

I use your profiles which are worth every penny, but I loved looking behind the scenes and seeing how to tweak my white balance further. Thank you!

Great video! I like the simplicity of profiles but also like the more handcrafted bit of this. Very helpful video Rob!

Great tutorial, Rob! I'm sure this is going to help a lot of folks new to IR photography grappling with how to get those faux color looks.

It’s really rewarding reflecting on the progress and competency you get when comparing how clueless I used to be ..

Haha, I got flashbacks too, ..for years, I did 720nm + 'direct sunlight' WB only. Red, red red, all the way :)

Hi Rob, great video again. I tend to use the luminance mask in Darkroom+, so I suppose you could use this to adjust the blown highlights this way? Haven’t done this tutorial yet as have left the white balance as is from when the camera got converted. Thanks again for sharing and look forward to your next tutorial, thanks again.

If that's what your photos used to look like out of camera, what do you do differently now?

With my 590nm converted Pentax K70, assigning white balance in camera is complicated. I'm not sure that I've got it correct. I shoot RAW+JPG and the JPG version comes out better looking. Should they ideally match when the white balance is correctly set in camera? I've been processing the JPGs since they look the best but I know that the RAW file gives me more flexibility.

If you are shooting in raw, the white balance in camera doesn't limit your edit. You will have full control over the white balance in your raw editor. If you are using an Adobe editor, you'll benefit from a custom white balance to set a better white balance.

Good tip, but a minute and a half of ads that can't be skipped--too much.

I've noticed this on some of the larger channels that I watch and I wasn't sure if this was channel specific or site wide. Maybe it's site wide. Thanks for the feedback.

Yeah, EVERYBODY is increasing their ad content, even in paid for TV.
