Actually the best thing about Hayden is when it comes to Anakin's fight choreography, Hayden came up with a lot of it during the training process. That includes his signature spinning the lightsaber behind his back.
Anakin Was one of the best lightsaber duelists I’m the order he was better then average at form 1 mastered form 6 and form 5 and then created a variant of form 5 when he had to have the majority of his body replaced by prosthetics in the Lucas books they fully expected him to be the next battle master of the order
His flourish at 2:39 is PERFECT! It’s like he starts out fighting like Vader, gets warmed up a bit, shakes it up with that flourish, and goes into Anakin-mode. Praise Filoni!
@@FEDsquaredit's an awesome way to look at it. Like an athlete coming back from an injury. At first, they're just testing themselves, being careful not to reinjure themselves. Once they get their sea legs, they're running around and dunking on people. This is what I feel like Anakin was going through here. He's like "okay, I think I'm BACK back"
I love how Hayden has incorporated some of Matt Lanter's Anakin while still keeping the core of his movie Anakin. It's like the two of them built off each other over years and years to become the fullest expression of the character's voice and mannerisms.
I couldn't help but smile when he called her "Snips". I think about all the times they'd call each other by their respective nicknames of "Sky Guy" and "Snips".
It does cement even more though how much The Clone Wars got Anakin's personality wrong. Not only does he start the show (like a month after Episode 2) acting more like his Episode 3 self, he barely shows any of the insecurity of Anakin or how emotionally messy he is. There'd be no need to combine the two if they were the same character, which they're supposed to be, but they're just not.
@@Grandmaster_Dragonborn I disagree. Mind you, TCW also takes place over the course of 3 years. Despite losing his mother recently, I think that he was fighting to control his balance with the Force. I think the wear and tear on him, completed with seeing visions of his wife die in childbirth, is what finally drove him towards the Dark Side.
@ Right, but my point remains: He starts TCW acting like his episode 3 self; his development from two to three was completely skipped, when it should’ve been his most important development.
yep one of my biggest gripes with the show was ahsoka seemed completely lifeless in the first four episodes but its obvious after this episode that that was intentional
This proves 100% that haydens performance was never his fault in the prequels and dave feloni literally made haden act just like lanters character. More like a big brother type of personality towards ahsoka is something we never seen in live action before. Wish they made a live action clone wars. Haydens performance was insane and turned out to be way better than matt lanter.
Yes it was direction. I did not realize it for years and years, but George had directed him to speak with Darth Vader's cadence. It made him sound like a robot, which fit DV's aesthetic but was awful for Anakin.
The magic moment for me was Anakin and young Ahsoka's first time on the clone wars battlefield. As soon as he mentors her after the battle you can hear the writing of those characters via Dave. But you get Hayden and the young actress being able to live those characters with all that history and chemistry between them super naturally. That had to be a really fulfilling moment for Dave and Hayden both
@ethanschmid4104 she didn’t say the line then so he wasn’t referring to that. Him saying he heard it before is a direct reference to Luke. Considering he was trying to teach her the lesson Luke showed him of throwing away the lightsaber and choosing to be selfless, it’s definitely a Luke reference
@kurtadams4791 Sometimes when people say things like "I won't leave you" it's inferred that they don't want any harm to come to you it was ahsokas way of telling vader/anakin that in rebels
As someone who struggled to see Hayden’s Anakin as the animated one. Seeing the clone wars flashback truly made me believe they are one in the same. Giving Hayden’s performance a chance to shine in the light of a teacher and a mentor as well as the general from the clone wars was so enlightening and refreshing. Imagine if the whole clone wars was live action. Whilst impossible, would have been an amazing dream.
It should’ve been done before between when AOTC and ROTS was made. The clone wars really could’ve been it’s own set of movies if George had thought of it back then or had thought of the idea of making the prequel era more than a trilogy.
Somewhere deep in the cosmos is a universe where our clone wars series was live action with Hayden AND Ewan in their iconic roles. Someone get me a portal gun 😭
Got to remember he was playing a confused young Jedi struggling with his emotions , in the middle of a war. I think Cristian did a great job in the Prequels. Remember he was not Vader yet
When he says “I haven’t taught you everything yet” it was sooo much like Clone Wars Anakin. I love how he’s added so much off Lanter’s Anakin to his version whilst still maintaining a lot of his original performance in the prequels. Hayden is the best part of the show
Anakin is basically the only role Hayden has ever had in his entire life, with one exception being the Jumper film he did awhile ago. But other than that, Hayden has and always will be Anakin Skywalker.
@@nateborie6329 That's a ridiculous thing to say, he had films before and after Star Wars. Read his filmography before writing this nonsense. Yes, his career might be not as prolific as Ewan's for example, but to say he only had one role is ridiculous and factually incorrect.
The freaking POWER WALK. Whew. Straight from _Revenge of the Sith._ And the way his voice was mixed with Vader's at "You lack conviction." incredible. AND HE DID HIS SIGNATURE MOVE TOO?! I feel like I don't deserve this lol.
Look at the way he moves!! Hayden's genuine athleticism and technique are sorely missing from modern Star Wars. Everything from his movement, saber control to footing looks so clean... He's not only the best in-canon saber fighter but also in real life.
The line delivery for “Ive heard that before” is so powerful. Haydens tone is playful, sinister yet also confident and cold. It truly puts hayden’s vader in the fight with hamills Luke.
Bringing Anakin back was genius. His dry humor and smugness about not completing her training. I haven't shown you everything yet, great line and nicely executed. Hayden has perfected and owned this role. He's definitely left his imprint in the Star Wars world. Well done 👍.
Its so beautiful to see Hayden having come full circle. I remember when Hayden made his big return at Celebration 2017 and got a standing ovation. You can really tell that that’s when Hayden was finally able to start heal from all the crap he got during the prequels. And from that came his new slew of convention appearances, then his reunion and rematch with Ewan on Kenobi, and now here back as Anakin in his full glorious prime.
I have for very long felt that Hayden was unfairly treated by critics and that his performance was never held in contempt by the wider audience. I never got what was so wrong with his acting.
@@erikpersson2047It really was mistreating him for script issues - Anakin's cringe lines were not Hayden's fault, and people gradually forgave him for them, and this is the reward we were given for that.
@@TheMimiSard But it was more in Episode 2 that he was criticized, but in episode 3 his lines and acting improved, including an improvement in the dialogues.
This right here is Star Wars. The lightsaber duel, the dialogue, the lesson here as well as the atmosphere and tension. If only we had more moments like this for modern Star Wars.
We have ton man, you’re just too stuck up in nostalgia to see them. It’s really sad that you let your emotions control so much over whether or not you like a part of a story that ultimately doesn’t exist. We have to accept a lot about life and nature. Why not let entertainment media do it’s job and entertain us lol. You don’t have to love everything but I genuinely think modern Star Wars has some amazing moments. Not everything is amazing but the same applies to all of Lucas’s stuff. You look past all the issues in those and still enjoy them…
I like the quote “ one is not too old to learn, snips “ it really embodies anakin that nugget of wisdom that haunted his whole life until he accepted it at the end of his life embraced by his son
This episode brought my childhood back to life in ways I never imagined I’d get to see. Growing up in the late 2000’s all I could think about was the clone wars and much I wish I could see the original actors in these roles!
@ethanschmid4104I was literally 8 when clone wars first premiered now I’m 23 and crying like a baby because of how they beautifully bright my childhood to life in this episode.
That ending was like a series finale!!!..I had chills so much is like a farewell ending and never coming back type feeling. An emotion!..this episode left me speechless
Agree to a extent still think there are some areas they could have refined or talked to a armor master about because I’m seeing stuff that would mess with your range of motion
I like the development of this third stage Anakin. He has the skill and ability of when he was a Jedi and the conviction and insight of when he was Vader. But what truly brings him together is the clarity and peace of mind that came about after his redemption. It took a long way around to get there, but he really is Qui Gon's student.
Honestly, my favorite part of Hayden returning is the fact that he brought back his subtle Anakin mannerisms. At 0:53, the way he moves his eyebrows when he tells Ahsoka she lost is almost an exact facial move he does in RotS. I'm so happy.
Going off the top comment, the lesson was definitely about how she needs to live, choosing to move past her guilt, shame, and trauma, and embrace life again. She's not Vader, and she's more than just a child soldier/murderer. The first half of the show made it clear that Ahsoka is pretty much a shell atm, not really living. I think after her "baptism" it's clear that she's rejuvenated, and maybe she'll pass on the lesson to her also very depressed apprentice.

This is the final form Anakin that we've all wanted to see and I'm loving Dave for giving it to us. Every part of his character's story culminates to this moment between him and his legacy making peace.
It’s funny how all the fans realize the value in Hayden and appreciate him after having years of brutal Star Wars films. Never know what you have until it’s gone.
Let all take a moment to appreciate Anakin's fighting style straight out of the Animated Series beating people down with his lightsaber. Hayden is just killing it.
I think the point of this fight is to get her to be aware of her environment. She never force tosses rocks. She wasn't aware that she was being pushed towards a cliff in her fight with Skoll. She didn't think of severing the path they were fighting on in the World Between. She's an amazing technical duellist but not a strategist. That needs to change.
It was much more deeper than that It was about living without shame and fear She regretted the clones dead, she was afraid of becoming Vader version of herself Thats why she was an a$$ to Sabine. Out of fear and regret
2:18 the way je breaks that deadlock almost looks like hes empowering his push with the force. The tale of Anakin Skywalker is and always will be the greatest story ever told.
2:38 he did it again!!!! I knew that Vader suit had too much restrictions. Hayden moves as much as he did during the prequels in here then in Kenobi. Even during the flashbacks when he did the spin wasn't as impressive as this one.
Honestly right along side his handling of the sabor, his footwork is absolutely insane. Each step so calculated with each swing 🥹 nobody can play a better Anakin.
Oh man, this scene and the flashbacks are everything to me. I loved this episode. I just knew Anakin would say how old Ahsoka has gotten. 😄 Like a big brother/best friend would. It reminded me of when Rex told Ahsoka, "You've gotten old. "Had to happen sometime, Rex."
I love that in this episode Anakin truly represented balance in the force. And that his final lesson, was essentially teaching Ahsoka that she should not be ashamed of her past, and to embrace it, no matter how painful, because it’s a part of her, and her legacy. Truly amazing work by both Ahsoka’s actresses and Hayden
2:38 There's the technique I miss. That movement you only saw during the prequels. It feels so different from the way the Jedi move in the movies that follow. It's also nice to see that Ashoka is clearly from that time because she can fight against it.
Right? Like if you had throw all the characters in categories by movie style she definitely falls under the prequel style, I really look at her like one of them like she brings that clone wars touch to this era
Hayden spinning the lightsaber was Soo cool! He completely became Anakin again. Its amazing how he changed from wise calm Skyguy "No one is ever too old to learn, Snips" to threatening and aggressively attacking Ahsoka! The episode was fulfilling!
i like how anakin is able to go back and forth between his light and dark side for the fights. 2:18 he is so strong its no wonder he had to defeat himself.
Hayden’s style of Lightsaber Fighting (Form V) is what made me obsess with the beauty and intricacy of sword fighting my entire childhood and young adult life. Hell, even now as a 26 year old, I can’t help but twirl around any and all long sticks, props, toy swords/lightsabers, cardboard paper holders as if I was Anakin Skywalker. Hayden’s skill still inspires me to this day! Truly he’s the GOAT
Honestly Disney should REALLY have Hayden be the lightsaber combat instructor for upcoming actors being put into the franchise. I had completely forgotten how flawless he makes those swings look but they hit with so much impact it gives the fight a real intense factor. This brought me back to being a kid in the theater in 2005. THIS should be & always have been the standard.
When Ahsoka says "I won't fight you", and Anakin replies "I've heard that before".. he is referring back to Luke's "I will not fight you father".. I'm in tearssssss
@@Paolini_18 Nah it was the force. Anakin would empower his saber swings with the Force which is what made him such a devastating duelist, even more so as Vader
What I find fascinating is that afterlife Anakin seems to have control of both of his sides. He can be the Anakin that the galaxy loved as a hero, to Vader that everyone feared. In a way, he has accepted his natures and uses both as a lesson.
This is the Star Wars I’ve been wanting for so long especially seeing Hayden back in action again. He was and will always be THE Anakin Skywalker. Flashy yet clean lightsaber fights with the raw emotions and witty attitude. That’s my laser sword GOAT user.
I love Anakin he is one of my favorite characters and I loved his transition from Anakin to Darth Vader one of the best character developments I have ever seen
Loved this scene it really shows a more calm wise and more powerful anakin than in the prequels him fighting in the light and the dark was brilliant and teaching Ahsoka to accept what happened in the past and there was nothing she could of done to prevent it. This shows just how powerful anakin has become since his time in death
Hayden always did that behind the back spin and I love seeing that again ❤ Hayden was my first ever celebrity crush and maybe my first ever crush as a child at 9 years old. I love him to this day. Glad to see he still has it.
This episode was arguably one of the best of any TV. Hayden did not miss a beat , it felts so real and fitting . The dialogue was just superb . Anakin is truly a jedi master now .
Hayden is GOAT at playing Anakin skywalker, admired him since day one i saw him in star wars. Amazing, talented. He really makes you wanna see more of him
I can just imagine Hayden, being depressed for those years after the first trilogy came out and he got all that backlash, being in home all sad and grim... Then looking at a replica of his lighsaber he got from the set, sitting on the table, picking it up slowly and hesitantly, and starting to imagine being back in the studios again, with Ewan and Sir Lee, training to be the greatest jedi the galaxies have ever seen, and slowly starting to approach his Form V pose, then quickly swinging the saber around, trying to keep up with the memories of all the days of training that came up. All of it waiting for a moment to use all of that again.
I liked the foreshadowing for Anakin not actually giving into the dark side during this fight, but rather using it as a teaching tool to motivate Ahsoka. Hera: What was Ahsoka's master like? Huyang: Intense.
Hayden never left the building. We saw what we were supposed to see at the appointed time. We saw him as a brash knight and what made him fall in the prequels. Now we see him as a jedi master with the patience and understanding of the force that he was missing. It's brilliant, storytelling. Maybe disney sequels and rey can get the same treatment.
Hayden can still swing a lightsaber like no bodies business. He still got it. Probably muscle memory for him at this point. 😂.

I wanted to reach out and just FLING myself at him in a hug, cause same I missed Anakin Skywalker so badly lol. I don't care if Anakin isn't much of a hugger HE'D BE GETTING ONE FROM ME DAMMIT lol.
Hayden like anakin is a skilled one with a saber
His flourish at 2:39 is PERFECT!
It’s like he starts out fighting like Vader, gets warmed up a bit, shakes it up with that flourish, and goes into Anakin-mode.

I love how Hayden has incorporated some of Matt Lanter's Anakin while still keeping the core of his movie Anakin. It's like the two of them built off each other over years and years to become the fullest expression of the character's voice and mannerisms.
Couldn’t agree more, and I love it
I couldn't help but smile when he called her "Snips".
The point of this fight was to teach Ahsoka that she shouldn’t live in guilt and shame of all that she had to go through.
yep one of my biggest gripes with the show was ahsoka seemed completely lifeless in the first four episodes but its obvious after this episode that that was intentional

Did/Does Anakin give himself a pass for killing 5-10 year old kids?
This proves 100% that haydens performance was never his fault in the prequels and dave feloni literally made haden act just like lanters character. More like a big brother type of personality towards ahsoka is something we never seen in live action before. Wish they made a live action clone wars. Haydens performance was insane and turned out to be way better than matt lanter.
What performance by Matt lanter, his voice😂

Yes it was direction. I did not realize it for years and years, but George had directed him to speak with Darth Vader's cadence. It made him sound like a robot, which fit DV's aesthetic but was awful for Anakin.
@@ProCoRat BRO YES, that's something that i only realized now too, i was trying to explain why it was weird but this is the answer
The magic moment for me was Anakin and young Ahsoka's first time on the clone wars battlefield. As soon as he mentors her after the battle you can hear the writing of those characters via Dave. But you get Hayden and the young actress being able to live those characters with all that history and chemistry between them super naturally. That had to be a really fulfilling moment for Dave and Hayden both
When Anakin responds to Ahsoka, “I’ve heard that before.” Love the callback to Luke in Episode 6
I'm pretty sure it was really a callback to their fight on Malachor, but an argument could be made for Return of the Jedi as well, I guess. Maybe.
I thought it was kinda obvious that he was referring to Ahsoka fight in Rebels finale. It doesn't have to be a word to word quote.
@@Commander_Shepard.But she doesn't say anything resembling that. Luke did.
If they made a live action clone wars series, I’m all for it. Deepfakes and cgi would probably make Disney bankrupt though lmao
@@Us3r739disney and bankrupt does not belong in the same sentence lmao, do you know how rich they are 😂😂😂
It should’ve been done before between when AOTC and ROTS was made.
Hayden is the best part of the show
Hayden is, and will ever be Anakin. Look at his expression, his lightsaber swings. He is unmatched. IRL and in universe
Damn right the legend himself.
Anakin is basically the only role Hayden has ever had in his entire life, with one exception being the Jumper film he did awhile ago. But other than that, Hayden has and always will be Anakin Skywalker.

He still got that Nick Gillard muscle memory training from episode 3
The line delivery for “Ive heard that before” is so powerful. Haydens tone is playful, sinister yet also confident and cold. It truly puts hayden’s vader in the fight with hamills Luke.
Bringing Anakin back was genius. His dry humor and smugness about not completing her training. I haven't shown you everything yet, great line and nicely executed. Hayden has perfected and owned this role. He's definitely left his imprint in the Star Wars world. Well done 👍.
Now with this knowledge, watch the Final duel in ROTS.
Anakin finally getting the respect he deserves
Its so beautiful to see Hayden having come full circle. I remember when Hayden made his big return at Celebration 2017 and got a standing ovation. You can really tell that that’s when Hayden was finally able to start heal from all the crap he got during the prequels. And from that came his new slew of convention appearances, then his reunion and rematch with Ewan on Kenobi, and now here back as Anakin in his full glorious prime.
I have for very long felt that Hayden was unfairly treated by critics and that his performance was never held in contempt by the wider audience. I never got what was so wrong with his acting.
@@erikpersson2047 +1 my friend

It was much more deeper than that
It was about living without shame and fear

Naw, just Deborah Chow isn't filoni
Well in the kenobi flashbacks anakin wasn't half as skilled and strong as he was by episode 3 so they couldn't portray him at full strength or speed
in Kenobi, the flashback was Anakin as a Padawan. Less developed, less skilled, less refined. This is what Anakin could have been.
I think the Anakin we’re shown here could’ve been Anakin in his prime.
