Ahsoka: I won’t fight you. Anakin: I’ve heard that before. (flashback to Death Star II) Vader: Obi Wan, has taught you well Luke: I will not fight you father.
Yeah, you have a 14 year old playing a character at 13 and 16. The only way to have done it better would have been to have an older actress play the 'Siege' version. People forget how young Ahsoka was, and how short the war was. Besides, we're not actually seeing Clone Wars scenes in live-action, we're seeing grown up Ahsoka's smokey hazy memories of how she sees herself.
Goes to show this is the real Anakin. Him saying “I’ve heard that before” (I won’t fight you) is what Luke said in ROTJ proof he was aware of every event he was involved in even as Darth Vader which is why he didn’t recognize the siege of Mandalore. In the end Anakin succeeded in teaching a final lesson from beyond the grave to Ahsoka letting go a lesson he himself never learned. It was also a lesson for Ahsoka to learn that even though her master made mistakes doesn’t me she has too she had to accept that Anakin’s failings are not on her and she isn’t defined by them. Props to Hayden for his portrayal of 3 Anakins Force Ghost Anakin at peace with a larger understanding now that he is one with the force. Clone Wars Anakin battle ready yet with a young vibrancy to him. And Dark Side Anakin the way he was cold yet rage filled shows that Darth Vader was not just the suit or a Sith title Darth Vader has always been part of Anakin Skywalker every questionable decision every atrocity he committed every dark act he did.
I'd say Anakin's saber being tossed away goes to show it's 1000% Ahsoka's internalised trauma playing out in her subconscious as she's dying in the water, but it's all about opinions isn't it. 👍🙂
The whole point of this episode was ahsoka had to to choose to live or die. Anakin posed that question to her multiple times, and every time she said anything else except "i want to live" Anakin said "wrong answer" and attacked her.
The whole Clone Wars is over like a 3 year stretch... so Ahsoka goes from 14 - 17. Even at the end of the series she is still a kid. We just don't feel how young she is in animation. This actress is 16 years old and I think does a great job at both versions of young Ahsoka.
Hera's parenting is fine: Chopper would murder anyone who came close to that kid. Seeing Ahsoka in the Clone Wars does a better job than the animation of highlight just how young Ahsoka is when she's out there giving life/death orders, and killing Mandalorians. Maybe it's the disconnect of animation, but this really hammers home that the Jedi were fielding child soldiers. If the Jedi Order hadn't been wiped out, there was going to be a generation of Jedi with real issues.
how is bringing your kid into a possible dangerous situation "good parenting"? Chopper would murder who? and how does it have better sensors on land than ships scanning above the surface of the water? we relate more with live actions, hence they are much more difficult to make.
This episode gave me chills! If these are the only two episodes of Hayden Christensen we are getting then they were totally epic! The flashbacks gave me goosebumps! For me Ahsoka was struggling with failing Sabine. Anakin at least taught her accept failure and learn to lead. This felt like a finale it was that good!
I think Anakin represented safety, protection, and home for Ahsoka. I think that she knew that she was safe as long as Anakin was around. Every time something bad happened to Ahsoka in The Clone Wars, it happened when Anakin wasn't near her or he couldn't do anything to prevent the situation. I think Anakin took solace in knowing that Ahsoka was safe if she was by his side. That's why he experienced so much separation anxiety.
To be fair Ahsoka was literally 17 during the Siege of Mandalore/Order 66. So her still looking close to her 14 yo self on Ryloth isn't' that big of a jump. The actress also killed it as Ahsoka by the way!
Anakin saying "I've heard that before" was a reference to Luke's "I will not fight you, father"... it was the show's way of letting the audience know that this is indeed the spirit of a post Return of the Jedi Anakin, who has all the memories of the events involving Vader in the original trilogy. Wild.

It was Anakin all along. The lesson, Ahsoka needed from him, and is straightforward: Ahsoka always grappled with the idea of renouncing her fighter and warrior side: 'We were trained to be keepers of the peace, not soldiers.' This conflict grew even more intense as she matured, and saw all the suffering in front her eyes. It's as though Ahsoka desired the path of the Jedi but wished to distance herself from their warrior aspect, and all the dangers it brings. Anakin's teaching to Ahsoka was crystal clear: 'You lost a battle. Do you want to live or die?' He then attacked, forcing her to choose between defending herself or perishing. Despite this, she seemed to miss the message. This sentiment is echoed in her remarks during the Clone Wars, 'What are we doing here? And my lesson?' Her confusion persists. "I am here to teach you how to lead, and for that you have to fight". 'If you don't fight, you die.' To her, this might seem cruel, and she correlates this with her conflicted image of Anakin/Vader, which frequently shifts between her eyes. Furthermore, in the Siege of Mandalore scene, when Anakin claims she is a part of his legacy and of those before him, Ahsoka remarks on his danger. Anakin responds with, 'You haven't understood. Let's go back to the start. I offered you a choice: do you want to live or die?' This theme becomes more pronounced as he intensifies his assault during his lesson about becoming a Sith, to the point where she has to fend off Vader, eventually gripping his wrist, declaring her will to live. By doing so, she recognizes and embraces the warrior within, understanding that this facet of her is crucial for her survival. This idea was explored in a 'Tales of the Jedi' episode. It's an intrinsic part of her, her legacy. A Jedi embodies both the roles of a soldier and a beacon of virtue. Ahsoka readily embraced the latter but struggled with the former, a contrast to Anakin. Anakin's lesson wasn't just a Jedi teaching; it was a stark statement about the often cruel nature of life itself. He wasn't being philosophical but brutally pragmatic: 'Do you want to live or die?' In that moment, Ahsoka was forced to confront not just her Jedi training but also the uncomfortable reality that life can be unforgiving. Her struggle with this lesson reflects her inner conflict, torn between her identity as a peacekeeper and the unavoidable necessity of embracing her warrior side for survival. It was only when Ahsoka acknowledged this duality that she found resolution and freedom. That fighting that she wanted to forget, with all the the suffering that was inherit with it. All the clones that died, Anakin's fall. I also think that Anakin didn't really turn to his Sith version, it was a set up, not that Anakin genuinely wanted to kill her in the world between worlds or that he was incapable. If he had truly intended to, she wouldn't have stood a chance. Instead, it was a lesson, and Anakin had to set the stage for her. It was always the reedemed Anakin all along. Just needed to embodied the Vader version to finish the lesson. Not as Anakin is bipolar and not resolved yet in the afterlife. Anakin's message to her was to embrace her soldier side and find peace with it, emphasizing that his fall to the dark side wasn't due to this aspect or her actions "I am much more than that, as you are". He urges her to live on.
You explained it really well. I didn’t understand the lesson/lessons the first time I watched it, probably because I was geeking out. Seems a few reactors are missing it too on the first watch.
Ahsoka needed to learn to fight against, and defeat her doubt in order to reconcile with the legacy she is part of and to stay alive under the waves. Anakin gave her what she needed to do that.
"Intense" sugarcoating? *ding* There are several quotes that illustrate the things he is teaching her. "He was powerful, rarely lost a battle. What would've surprised people is how kind he was" "I've thought about her every day since we parted, but she's forgotten me completely " "but will we do so as keepers of the peace, or warriors? And is there a difference?" (Ahsoka to Barriss about the Jedi post war), "THIS IS RIDICULOUS, the droids aren't HALF as good as Rex's men " "that's the point. This is SUPPOSED to be difficult Ahsoka. It's my job to protect you. And the best way I can do that is to teach you how to protect yourself " "How well would you sleep, knowing that I let you down?" "Not very well I'd imagine "(Anakin and Obi-Wan talking about her) "Where were you when I needed you? "I made a choice" "You were SELFISH" "No" "You FAILED me, you ABANDONED me, do you know what I've become?" (Being confronted by a Force vision on Lothal) "you can't save your master, and I can't save mine" "The Jedi are supposed to be keepers of the peace, but all I've been since I was a Padawan was a Soldier" "I see the Padawan needs 1 final lesson " "Let's just say I DIDN'T use standard Jedi protocol " "I've seen what such attachments can do to a fully trained Jedi Knight, to the best of us" "Then I will avenge his death " "Revenge is not the Jedi way" "I am NO JEDI" "I won't leave you, not this time" "Then you will DIE" "Train yourself to let go.....of everything you fear to lose" "I KNOW there is still good in you, the emperor hasn't driven it from you fully" "you already have, Luke. You were right, you were right about me. Tell your sister, you were right" "Father, I won't leave you "
Jedi have shown body control abilities in other media, and Obi-Wan and Qui-gon were able to hold their breath and resist being poisoned by gas in the Phantom Menace. She was probably in some form of metabolic stasis for a while. Who knows how long she was actually under water before they found her.
Those several flashes of Anakin then flickering to Vader...damn that was brilliant. Was that supposed to be Ashoka admitting to herself that she saw him becoming dark?
Nice, but I think you all are missing some important clues given. Baylan sees Ahsoka dropping and his conversation with Sabine he talks to her like given Ahsoka as dead. Probably he sees she hitting the rocks bellow. Talking about the place when this all happened probably is a powerful force nexus. And if happened in other place she probably not was presented with the choice to live or die. What I think that happened, was she body are in some place in the water but her spirit cross to world between worlds. And what go next is a near death experience. One of the first thing Anakin tolde to her was, he was not expecting her there so soon. The second thing he said to her is that she lost, but has a chance to live. And that is because she remember what happened. So he pass thru her blocking her avance in the afterlife path, and force her back to the beginning of the path that was pretty close if you see. And when they get there he make her see a part of her life. I think that was 2 things happening. First Anakin is making she choose live or die, but he dont want that she die, so stop fighting is always the wrong answer to him. The second thing is the training, like all Jedi knight they have to face the dark side and come back of the experience. In the end her eyes has revealing her dark side, but she do not let it take control over her beside wishes to strike down what he became, she make peace, stopping the fight and choosing to live. What she realizes is that she can be everything Anakin was and more, but this is the path she must follow and what she becomes will be forged by her own decisions. The boy and Hera heard the lightsabers, I believe it was more because the place was a point of convergence in the force. But many must be wondering why she listened? Just remember the first lesson. The force is present in all living beings. And some have the talence to chanel and use this power. Well that is what I thing is going on \o/
tbf, Din behaves a similar way w/ Grogu, hes seen and been in a lot of unnecessarily dangerous situations bc of his dad, esp in season 1. cut hera some slack
As an aside, the kid who played young Ahsoka, wasn't even born when the Clone Wars movie premiered. Let that sink in. Nothing wrong AT ALL with Mary as Hera, Sabine on the other hand...
10:31 Btw, did you know that according to “Bespin Bulletin” there was a fight scene shot between Anakin (as Hayden Christensen) and Ahsoka (as Savannah Steyn instead of Ariana Greenblatt, at least for that scene) on Mustafar in an alternate-reality-like setting during the "world-between-world like" moments, which they said was cut from the actual episode? In that scene Anakin would have showed her that she couldn't have changed his fate to become Vader even if she were there at that point, which would have taken away a lot of her guilt of her not having been there and not being able to save him, resulting in the now more light-hearted Ahsoka. They cut that scene, maybe cause it wasn't really a memory and/or cause Anakin's message/lesson was a different one? Though I still hope they would release it as a separate video on YT or sth like that, cause I would really like to see what that scene (and Savannah Steyn as Ahsoka) would have looked like and it also explains a bit better imo why Ahsoka is more enlightened and happy at the end.
Puts into perspective how young Ahsoka actually was. Ahsoka only seems older in CW because of the voice actress, even in s7 Ahsoka was only 17-18. So the ppl moaning shes too young, no she isn’t Lmao.
I mean, because Comes down to the fact that they're not hardcore Star Wars. Fantastic, because a hardcore fan like me knows exactly how long the clone wars was knows when associate was introduced, she was 14 and at the of the, wars 3 years had passed and she was 17. It's like i've seen people say how did She get to the world between worlds. And how is anakin switching between light and dark? And I'm literally screaming at my phone. He is a force God. The skywalker family is immeasurably powerful. I remember one time when Luke died. He decided he got board being one with the force and literally willed himself back into existence.!!!!😂😂😂
Wow this woman is SO miserable some of the best star wars ever and shes like uhhh this sequence is lasting forever, ohhh they couldnt have just dont that in the beginning, ohhh hes old enough to come with you here but not there. Wow what a misery!
I REALLY expected Chop to throw Jacen off the cliff. He was really off-brand in this one. :D I don't know if Hayden binge watched CW, or if the director spent a lot of time on the scenes, or if they did it with CG trickery... but he's playing CW Ani, not live action Ani. Even that stupid smirk at the end, is almost the same one he gives Ahsoka the last time she saw "the real him" right before the siege. The "there's hope for you yet" line also reminded me a lot of the very beginning of it all. "You'd never have made it as Obi-wan's padawan. But you just might make it as mine." Also with him saying snips, I really wanted her to say "sky guy" at least once.

I LOST MY SHIT when they landed back in the Clone Wars.
"You're reckless little one. You never would've made it as Obi-Wan's Padawan. But you might make it as mine " "Jedi, Ahsoka IS Jedi "
the actress is16 at the siege of mandalore ahssoka was 17 so it was fine
Follow up, the actress that plays young Ahsoka is the same actress that played young Gamora in Infinity War, Ariana Greenblatt.
The actress of young ahsoka is the girl who plays little gamora von avengers infinity war
Why do people keep forgetting anakin is literally a god He literally teleported her from the moment she hit the water To the world between worlds
I'm sorry, but as a star wars fan you should obviously know how capable Chopper is, Jacen is WELL protected
Hey everyone she said "JIF" 😂
Tell your sister, you were right" "Father, I won't leave you "
When Carson mentions senator Organa he meant Leia. ''Senator Organa says SHE can only give us cover for so long''
Haydennnnnnnnnnn
I really love Hera. Great actess.
Young ashoka I believe is the actress who played child Gamora in Infinity war
while Jason is beside Chopper nothing will get near him. remember CHOPPER is our PHYSCO ROBOT WAR CRIMINAL.
Young Ahsoka is played by the actress who played the young version of Gamora from the marvel movies
I feel we gotta let Disney know that we want Dave Filoni to take over star wars. #FiloniForever!
The actress who play young Ahsoka, Ariana Greenblatt who also play young Gamora from Avengers: Infinity War.
Thank you!
Don't forget about the daughter in Barbie.
“How did she not…drown?” That’s what I’ve been wondering.
The force
Jedi have shown body control abilities in other media, and Obi-Wan and Qui-gon were able to hold their breath and resist being poisoned by gas in the Phantom Menace.
She was probably in some form of metabolic stasis for a while. Who knows how long she was actually under water before they found her.
Oh, and just a little fyi: Anakin's eyes were red, like Mortis, rather than Sith-like.
Those several flashes of Anakin then flickering to Vader...damn that was brilliant. Was that supposed to be Ashoka admitting to herself that she saw him becoming dark?
I'm pretty sure the young Ahsoka is the same actress who played young Gamora in Marvel
The 1st clone wars was battle ryloth
tbf, Din behaves a similar way w/ Grogu, hes seen and been in a lot of unnecessarily dangerous situations bc of his dad, esp in season 1. cut hera some slack
She played young Gamorra, and I've been told she's in the Barbie movie.
Kanan's picture is on Hera's Dashboard .... look close !!
12:06 -White Ahsoka
It's little gamora from infinity war
Full potential Darth Vader
Wow this woman is SO miserable some of the best star wars ever and shes like uhhh this sequence is lasting forever, ohhh they couldnt have just dont that in the beginning, ohhh hes old enough to come with you here but not there. Wow what a misery!
Yeah, lightsaber fights have degraded a lot after revenge of the Sith, but I like the series, Hayden looks great, he always deserved the fans' love
It's funny ... I think we see here the difference between american and european parenting. :D trust your children!
I REALLY expected Chop to throw Jacen off the cliff. He was really off-brand in this one. :D
I don't know if Hayden binge watched CW, or if the director spent a lot of time on the scenes, or if they did it with CG trickery... but he's playing CW Ani, not live action Ani.
Even that stupid smirk at the end, is almost the same one he gives Ahsoka the last time she saw "the real him" right before the siege.
The "there's hope for you yet" line also reminded me a lot of the very beginning of it all. "You'd never have made it as Obi-wan's padawan. But you just might make it as mine."
Also with him saying snips, I really wanted her to say "sky guy" at least once.
Hey there’s no safer place then by Mommas side I’m sure that’s what they were thinking and if he didn’t come along Ahsoka would have been dead
Not Christophis…Teth & Ryloth.
Is it Hera's look or mannerism that bothers you?
Gotta love member berries
Agree 100% with the Hera parenting observations. I was thinking the same exact thing on my first watch. ;o)
Now negative Nellie everyone is aware of your dislike of Winstead as Hera as u remind us ovr & ovr every apperance she makes. A fan you are not. Which is fine, opinions we all have.
She won't be seen for next 3 eps I'm thinking.
Time to move on ,only 3 left
You were too critical of the best episode ever. Your reaction in general is very strange.
This was a fantastic episode from start to finish. It’s unfortunate that you seem so hypercritical of it. You are entitled to your opinion of course. But it’s just disappointing to watch you nitpick everything to death. Kind of ruins the experience for the majority of us that feel this is the best piece of live action Star Wars we’ve gotten in years.
kinda problematic when the show is called Ahsoka, yet for 5min Anakin with a younger Ahsoka steal the show. no wonder this episode is the rage, not sure if any of what will come will reach this peak.
... Wait...jacen solo is not related to han in anyway?
Hera brought Jacen because why would she leave him with the crappy New Republic after she disobeyed orders?
1/10 because no Shin
Shut up she’s actually my least favorite character
