wife and I have put hundred thousand miles on our 05 Ultra. wouldn't trade it for nothing. big bore kit, ported, lowered, amp, speakers. tuner. ridden thru rain snow and really hot.
@@onementality9781 just had my big bore t.c. bored and stroked to a 103. S&S balanced crank, 545 geared reaper cams, gear timing. throttle body, injectors, forged pistons. billet cam chest, oil pump, s&s push rods, heavy valve springs, 10.5-1, 102hp 104tq. oil cooler.
I used to call ultra classics the old man bike when I had my Fatboy. Till my buddy let my ride his classic. I was hooked instantly. If it’s an old man bike then the old men got it right. Had to have it. Fatboy is gone and I’ve been riding my 2011 Ultra limited ever since... love it, she’s my two wheeled therapist 😎
I have a 2011 Limited. It’s honestly the best bike I’ve ever had and I came up with the metric bikes through the years. This bike is outstanding. Easy to ride in rush hour traffic, great in the scenic back roads. Fantastic on the highway. Yes it’s a bit heavy but you get used to it, you kind of want that on the highway. I highly recommend the Ultra Limited.
I have a 2010 Electra Glide Classic. Doesn't have all the bells and whistles of the Ultra, but it's super comfortable and fun to ride and handles easier than the Sportster I started with years ago. I love my Classic and since I'm 32 and I would say that it's more of a "wise man's bike" than an "old man's bike".
At 50 I started with a 2001 Low Rider, put 20000 miles on it. Sold it, got a 2003 Road King w 9000 miles on it, sold it w/ 72000 miles on it. I now own a 2009 Ultra Classic that I found last year with 3600 miles on it. Previous owner bought it, put $10,000 in upgrades and NEVER rode it. I "stole" it for $12,000 and it is my retirement ride. My last and my favorite. Like they say , why travel the country in a Chevy, when you can do a Caddy.
I’ve had 3 Ultras and have ridden them back and forth across the US several times including a trip all the way up the coast of California, Oregon and Washington state. Rode one down into Mexico for a month in 2002 and I rode an ultra through the 4 eastern provinces of Canada. They’re great bikes and I only wish I could still ride.
I agree 3rd generation rider, gave basically dad gave me his ultraclassic with all mods possible. I miss my Yamaha roadster that was modified. But I ride 100 miles a day and it's very nice. My wife loves the queen seat and putting her music on. Been all corners of Texas many times on two wheels. I get on my old man bike at 39 and I really enjoy it. I am parking my big diesel except farm work. And I'll be in uniform riding my white knight. I do my own maintenance and my bike doesn't leak but here in Houston I had verbal arguments because they won't believe normal folks do their own work. I was told at 10k I didn't do it showed all receipts... told oh your one them. Yamaha hey I need these gaskets etc... here's the factory manual.
just got a 2017 ultra, its my first Harley and my first cruiser. It only took me a few rides to get used to the feel of the weight of it, the way it shifts and the riding position. It is the most comfortable bike i have ever been on. I was expecting to be shaken to pieces from the vibration but it is actually quite smooth. I cant wait to take it on a long trip. Also the 17 is the first year they put the LED lights on them and they are really bright, makes driving at night more fun.
Own a 96 Electra Glide Classic, has about 46,000 miles fuel injected original 1340cc motor and exhaust no leaks runs like a swiss clock, rides fantastic. I bought it used about 10 yrs ago, love it.
I've got a '14 Ultra Classic - and I just love it.. Longest ride in one day was 735 miles - and I wasn't all that tired at the end.. I'll keep it til I'm too old/arthritic to get on/off...
In my 20's my first Harley was a used1994 Electra Glide Touring Classic. I loved that bike but caught grief from younger people that it was an old man's bike. The dealer got a 94 Heritage Softail Classic and I traded for that bike, which I really liked but it didn't ride like that FLH. Last year I finally rectified that situation and bought a holdover 2017 Ultra Classic. OK, I'm 53 now, edging toward true old man status, and I love my FLHTCU. Its good to be home again.
As an owner of a 1996 FLHTC-I (and an old man) I can attest to just how wonderful my Ultra is. I wouldn't sell it or trade it in for anything. Even the local Harley dealership mechanics love my old lady, she has something indefinable newer bikes (even Harleys) lack (according to them).
I have an 09 Ultra Classic with 25,000 miles. Bought it new and it's absolutely the best and most comfortable motorcycle I have owned. I had an 05 Goldwing prior to the Ultra and I prefer the Ultra over the wing for my own riding style. Good job on the review!
I love my 01 Ultra, bought it used one owner. It's a 88ci bored to a 94 with SS cams, high flow heads, true duels and a lot of other goodies. looks and runs show room new.
At 66. I have my bucket list bike, 2919 limited. My 1st HD , I love it and would not buy anything else. Yes it's a geesser guide, but I'm a geesser. There's nothing wrong with comfort
Love, love, love my 07 FLHTCU. Black & Chrome baby! In 08, they came out with throttle-by-wire. My ‘ole Betty has the 96 CU inch, six speed. Perked her up with a ThunderMax. Full-syn Amsoil always. 100k+ miles & and still rollin! Love the stock tunes.
I was sitting on the fence about an Ultra Classic. I watched your video yesterday morning and bought a 2011 Ultra Classic in the afternoon! Thanks for the videos.
My Road King Classic has 63,993 miles and runs just as good as new. My bike is awesome! I use to be a Harley hater. I like them now. I still like all the other bikes as well. I never own a Road Star before and still am a big Road Star fan.
My wife and I are buying our first Harley. We are going with the ultra classic 2014 model so we can both ride comfortably I’m 66 years old young at heart. My last bike in my 20s was a Triumph 650 Tiger so this is gonna be a big change love your videos. Thanks for putting the scripture in God Bless
I own a black 2009 Ultra Classic. I had to remove the 'old man' bumpers and bag guards. I also installed a different seat, Street Glide mirrors, and the 4 point docking hardware, so I could remove the trunk when I wasn't traveling. I recently scored a set of Enforcer wheels cheap, so I'll be putting those on later this week when my new tires and bearings arrive. I've had a few issues with it, such as the crank sensor mysteriously coming unplugged and the compensator getting worn, causing the engine to kick back on the starter. Other than those things, I've done the basic maintenance such as oil change, brakes, and bearings. I really want to upgrade the inner fairing to accommodate a dual din stereo with gps, which may be my next project. I've occasionally looked into possibly getting a newer bike. However, mine's been paid off a long time. I thoroughly enjoyed your video on this specific year and model.
The older Harleys had automatic chain oilers. So oil would drip off the chain and a lot of people though they leaked oil, this is also one of the reasons that in the old days dealers put drip pans under the bike. I had a 1972 AMF bagger with the chain oiler but it never leaked oil from the engine. That was a great bike never had any real problems with it. Sold it to my friends wife so I could buy an o3 lowrider.
09 streetglide. Been parked in the same spot since new. Has 80k miles and not a drop of oil under it ever. And yes I am an old guy. Been riding over 48 yrs and my next one will be a road glide.
You can ALWAYS divide highway miles by 2 and even at that, i know of MANY that, like Sean tells you about an excellent maintenance schedule being used, they use a mirometer to measure wear , and can take the stock size rings again when doing an overhaul of the motor. If you dont believe the micrometer, use plastiguage to measure the wear on other critical parts. Those of you who know this, have always turned out a great overhaul that youre never afraid to put a warrenty on.
Bought my Ultra so my wife could ride comfortably. She used to ride her own but health issues stopped that. She has since died and I traded my Ultra for a Street Glide. I've had the Dyna Wide Glide and Heritage(heritage was my fav) but, I really like the looks of the StreetGlide. I loved the Ultra, just a complete bike and I could turn almost as efficiently as a cop on their scoots. But, my legs and my strength are not what it once was(I'm 68) and that freakin Ultra is top heavy as hell. Don't say it isn't, it is. So, the change to the Street is just a heck of a lot easier to handle at stops and slow speed. Ultra is an awesome bike, just not for me any longer.
I have a ‘12 Ultra Limited. I have 80,000 on it. I live in MO, I have ridden to Seattle, Carson City, NV., Orlando, Houston, Northern WI over the UP, Michigan, Cleveland. I drive year round. Once I hit 100,000 miles, I will consider a new one with the nav features. Love it!!!
My 09 E Glide classic is my 1st Harley after many Hondas and Yamahas and I am settled in for the rest of my riding years. Rode my nephews and had to have one. Former bikes were smooth and sporty, pretty much maintenance free, but this one moves my soul!! I didn't peek out in the garage at night before turning in for the night like I do now....at 61 I guess I'm in the old guy class (feel 28 in the head though) Ride safe!!
When I was 25, I bought my first Harley Davidson. I went to the shop and did a test drive in a 80 ci Softail. I wanted to buy a Softail Custom in Candy Brandywine Crimson which was my favorite color. The dealer said, that I‘d have to wait a complete year to get up on the list of customers that want to buy one. He offered an Electra Glide Sport in my color. As my plan was to use it for touring Europe and the Alpes, it took me one night to change my decision. I loved the bike, but despite the fact, that it was an Evo engine I had a leaking gasket at the foot of the rear cylinder within the warranty time, which was only one year and some 20.000 km on it (some 12.500 mls). I maintained it well, but sometimes also rode it hard. The chassis was just made for it. I also rode it in the winter which I do not recommend with the snow we‘ve got in Bavaria. The next year I had a highsider due to a resonance frequency the Dunlop K291T front wheel brought into the steering when I passed a longitudinal split line in the road in a steep angle. I was passing a slow car at relatively low speed (some 70 km/h - 45 mph, because I travelled with a friend that had a 1000 cc -that’s 60 ci XLH. It was the perfect speed to initiate fluttering at high frequency to the steering bouncing from one extreme to the other. I bet a lighter bike would have dropped faster. My hog just went straight. In the curbs the bike calmed down, but when I came back on the road a new pulse caused me to go over my front. I had a medic take a check of my back before I rode home with my wrecked loved one. I wore full leather gear and without a helmet I would have died on the spot. My spine was compressed, but the adrenaline helped against the pain for the 110 km or 70 miles I still had to ride home. The pain was horrible all night and almost 2 weeks after the crash. When I was cured, I carefully tried riding it again, but I had severe difficulty at all curves, no matter how huge the radius was. I do not want to say it, because I’m ashamed of it. On a bike weekend I arrived and drank a couple of beers, because I was sure I wouldn’t ride this night. Later the pack I was with planned to go for pizza and they persuaded me to join them. A highly experienced rider promised to ride behind me - all the others were ahead of me. All I had to do is follow the red taillights. Before we arrived the scavenger took over. When we arrived he excused himself for not having stayed behind - he was scared how my bike was wobbling through the curvy roads in the Spessart mountain roads. This wobbling was due to the fact, that the tube of the front fork air support was cut. I continue riding because I love it so much and I‘m lucky that none of my buddies had a more severe accident. In the time I put more miles on it the same gasket broke twice more and I fixed it myself. First with original replacement of all rear cylinder gaskets the third time with Dirko red flexible gum. That stuff I can really recommend. My most expensive defect was a torn off drive shaft. The idiots that engineered the cone fit from the secondary gear shaft to the belt sprocket was slotted to take a round-ended feather key. The 1990 and newer have a splined shaft. Gears were not compatible and so I decided just to change the broken shaft. The mechanics handbook said the torque of the central nut to be some 35 ft ibs - I cannot recall the precise value, but judging the material an Thread size I calculated it to with stand more than 350 ft ibs. I decided to compress the nonsense key inside the cone by fixing the nut with nearly 300 ft ibs. That was more than a decade ago and it still works. A tiny misfit was the rotor of the generator catching the rubber gasket of the cables leading out to the regulator and shearing off all four bolts of the stator. I was very happy to have had my little Suzuki GN250. I was a student when all these defects happened and I was not having sufficient time to immediately fix it when it was broken. When I swapped the tires from Dunlop to Metzeler it felt like another motorcycle. I gave the bike to a friend who still rides it some 15 years ago. I also love riding recumbent bicycles flevo.de/images/cm/800er/ghost_1024.jpg My favorite bike is only for nice weather rowingbike.com/en/posts/model/thys-222-revolver/ My current motorbike is a Kawasaki W650 with electric but also very good kickstart. Other than 3 batteries I had only tire front brake pad and oil changes to be done - and blowing out the air filter and its housing. Hate to say it, but these Japanese products are just good. BTW the original battery on the Suzuki was good for 12 years. The E-Glide had the original a Bosch a furukawa and again an original Harley battery which was definitely better than the others. The comfort of the ride and the joy I had with my Electra Glide makes me think of buying a Road King. I wished my wife would like to go on tour with me again. She made her drivers license, when we were together for more than a year, but she quit riding, when our kids were born now my youngest one is getting 18. She’s the only one of my four kids, that likes to motorbike ride. In Germany for beginners the drivers license is restricted to 48 hp I think a Sportster 883 could be a good fit for her. Don’t drink and drive. God bless you all!
I now own an Ultra Limited from 2011. Definitely a lot heavier, than my 1989 Electra Glide Sport 413 kg vs 325 kg. It is a full dresser, but I had to add a passenger hand rails for easier pushing. On the E-Glide sport, it was at no extra cost.
I have a 01 lowrider & an 09 Ultra Classic. Lowrider for fun.. & Love cruising the Texas hill country on my Ultra. Put 2500 miles on it last June in Colorado and ready to do it again this year.
I just sold my 2007 Ultra-Classic Electraglide with 110,000 miles on it (replaced it with a 2021 Ultra Limited). I like those Kuryakyn grips. The rubber is soft and gives good cushioning and good grip. Only downside is they are cold in the winter due to the metal construction. Loving the heated grips that came standard on my 2021.
the speaker switch allows you to place the sound where you want so if you wanted to hear the CB in your headset only you can if you want sound from radio and Cb in your set you can or both thru speakers
I would ride it. Am tired of sports bike. They just so uncomfortable. Thats why now am considering a cruiser bike since i rode my friends boulevard. You enjoy riding more in a cruiser then a sports bike. My opinion.
Get a sport touring bike. S1000xr, low 10 quarter mile, bags, cruise, heated grips and seat, abs/trac, navigation.. you can also get used concourses, fjr's, st's for a fair price if you don't have lots to spend. I used to have a cruiser and a sport bike, now I pretty much only ride the sport touring bimmer.
My 1970 Electra Glide didn't leak a drop once I turned off the automatic chain oiler. Just had to basically turn a bolt. Then it no longer marked its spot. Yeah you better put a wrench here and there on any engine with solid motor mounts, every now and then. My 06 Ultra doesn't leak either, ever. I guess I was an old man at 19 when I bought the 70 full dresser, white seat, bags, rails, extra lights and all. Nice video!
what i ride, add a air zepplin seat and its an easy chair on wheels, but with a stage 2 it can get up and go with the best of them. they are so well balanced you can do things you wouldnt belive as far as manuvering, there is a reason theese are the basic for cop bikes. i never thought i needed or wanted cruise control on a bike until i got this, now i love it, nothing better for eating up some long distance highway miles.
A good friend of mine just bought a new 2019 after putting over 300,000 miles on his 2001 Ultra that he bought new. But what would he know about a good motorcycle.....
I remember seeing a guy that had over 400,000 miles on a touring Harley. The MOCO gave him a new bike and basically analyzed the old one, then put it on display. Yeah, they're runners.
@@rkt88403 I was just wondering I been trading every 2 to four years at around 55 thousand miles I drive ultra classic limited bought my last one in 2018 im 63 Years now probably my last new one so I was wondering how long it would go
I own almost an identical 2009. Same color, but I've got Screaming Eagle pipes on it. The bike had 10k miles when I bought it just over a year ago. It now has a 25k miles on it and I absolutely love it. I'm not an old man, but I love to do trips, and having the cargo space and entertainment options, it makes riding the bike a pleasure. I've owned Japanese tour bikes, and they have their good points, but just the sound of a VTwin Harley makes this a much more satisfying ride.
At Harley's demo day, last fall, I was told the newer M8s are all balanced now and when they did the first test rides on the development bikes, they consistently heard it was TOO smooth and that it took away from the feel of the bike. So, they put a little shake back in. Just goes to show how much we all love that feeling. The key is finding that perfect balance so it feels visceral but isn't obnoxious, like those old 88s.
Brother, keep professing God's word! I love motorcycles, but I love my God more. There are a lot of motorcycle channes, but the word of God is what keeps me coming back to this one.
Absolutely love the bible verses in your videos I'm new to your channel and I live in Ohio but the fact you don't leave god out of your business makes me want to get a bike from you guys... thank you...
I am glad they are reliable for a lot of highway miles,, my 2011Harley Electra glide Ultra Classic , PeaceOfficer Special Edition 2 tone Blue has around 5,000 miles, now that my cancer has been removed and in remission maybe I will get a chance to take it out of the garage and put some touring miles on it.
My 55 Panhead leaked oil on purpose... The dry clutch had a adjustable drip oiler on the primary chain that would build up and when you took the bike off the side stand it drained out of the primary via a hole that was factory.. True story!
My 70 Electra Glide had an automatic drive chain oiler that could be turned off by basically turning a bolt. After that it no longer marked its spot. Some of the older ones needed some silicone added to a few gaskets as Harley machining tolerances weren't as exact back before the mid 80s. Nothing sounds like a shovel head with drag pipes.
My grandpa has 2 classics and two ultra classics. On his first ultrclassic he Put 90,000 miles on flawlessly, after that he rebuilt the motor to make it go faster and he now has 115,000 miles on it running smooth
Couple things from a seasoned electra glider owner. I knew which grips you were talking about when you said you hated then i wasnt looking at the screen i looked and it was the grips i thought. Those are so uncomfortable. The highway pegs are a must for comfort. I never knew they had a CB radio option did i hear that rite? Mine has 59k miles and has been across country. Stock engine and hasnt been rebuilt yet. No issues. Loud pipes save lives & your channel is awesome
North Texas Motorcycle Safety Course NTMSC , Teacher Donnie Williams. He is a motor officer and UA-cam star. Watch him in action and then book your class.
My 2005 Road King has a hundred and seven thousand miles on it and I just bought a 03 Road King with 30,000 and look forward to many enjoyable writing miles on it as well
I'm old and my 2004 is now 20 model years old. The 88ci twin cam has had enough power for two-up riding with camping gear. Now that we're past 65 years, these cross country days are over. My wife doesn't ride much anymore, and when she does, she'll take her Sportster. Other than tires and brakes, the only thing replaced has been the throttle cable. For its last long ride with me looking at a run-up The Dalton Hwy. The only mod for that trip is considering the dark side for the back tire. I have no doubt the motor/drive train is up to it. When I get back, probably strip and bob it until riding days are done. I'm starting to think the original motor will outlast me.
I just sold my 'Geezer Glide', 2008 CVO Ultra Classic...great riding bike, most comfortable bike I ever had, but I actually like my 1999 Road King better...not nearly as powerful or fast, but I don't ride a bike to see how fast I can get there...I do exactly what cruiser bikes are made for...I cruise...
Geezer glide ? How about king of the baggers ? Think you can do 147 and dragged your knees in the corners ? images.app.goo.gl/2D447twwrByFWKxd7 images.app.goo.gl/tB3qzHFQikY48tNV7 images.app.goo.gl/HAWbKXKYYagLeukS6 Up
Out of all my Harley’s I owned, six to be exact. From my NEW Sportster, Dyna, Softail, then Electra Glide! The 1997 FLHTIP, ex police bike has been the most favorite for me!
The leaking oil comes the tin primary constant loss oil systems prior to 1964 and older. The shovelhead and prior drips oil from the automatic chain oiling system.
I think the original brake fluid on 09 was different than what used to be used. HD had a recall to change it and said it’s got to be changed every two years. Make sure the brake fluid is maintained. If not it will mess up the abs and you’ll have no brakes. Very costly to fix.
Yeah the dot4 oil and the real problem is they decided to use Chinese made abs module instead of sticking with Bosch abs module. I know they went back to a better module but regardless its still good practice to flush out dot4 brake fluid every 2 years because dot4 absorbs water which is why the Chinese abs module ran into problems cause it would cause the piston inside it to seize up. I have the 08 anniversary Ultra Classic with abs and same abs module so i try and stay on top of flushing it at least every 2 years if not before then
Bought my 2007 Ultra Classic new, do my own maintenance. Has 22,400 miles. Started putting chrome all over it, all new LED lights etc. Best part about the bike its paid for.
Nice video. From 2009 onward the updates make a big difference in handling. The one Achilles heel are the compensator failures - especially on the 96” engines. We had to replace the comp at 20K when it stranded me. I knew it was going bad - banging on hot starts when you hit the button is a huge clue and it’s loud. Go with the Baker compensator and avoid the HD SE comps as they are no better. Your bad comp May lunch the starter clutch too! Ours ate it up. Our 2009 Ultra Classic is blue it’s a great two up machine.
That's looks exactly like my 2010 Ultra, even the same color! I have the 103 with a stage 1 so it's fun to ride. This is my first bike other than a few dirt bikes when I was a kid, it's intimidating at first being a new rider but I dug in and put 3000 miles in the last 40 days and I'm super comfortable.
I’ve always been a sport bike guy had a bunch of em through the years. I picked up a wide glide cheap, rebuilt it and hated it. Traded it in for a 16 ultra limited and it’s great. Had to throw highway pegs on it but after that it’s super comfortable. Although it’s no zx14 it’s my go to these days.
Harleys use to leak oil because the aluminum used, back in the day, was very porous. If you've ever cracked the cases on a pre- Evo H-D, you would see a rubber coating that was painted on the inside to help keep the oil in the crankcase...
That Tour Pak holds my 12 CD Changer that Harley had as an Option in those days. Still works like a charm Today. One Comfortable Touring Bike that's for Sure !! The Thick Adjustable Backrest is a big help as well as Adjustable rear Air shocks, left front Fork has a shock in it too. I added the Oil cooler and the "Parade" Fan for cooling. 2004 was the first year of the Seq Port Fuel Injection OR carburetor Choice.
these are really nice bikes, my step father has one, his only complaint is the seat padding on long rides, my complaints are the seat padding and the style of the saddlebags. his is a low tho so the seat high is amazing and he has the double din radio which is nice for the GPS and its all around nicer. this bike is still worth a solid look tho, no doubt.
My 2010 103 Ultra Glide Limited is still running fine. The wife and bought it because of the nice intercom and cruise control. The Hard Lowers keep your feet dry when the streets are wet. (Before you make stupid comments, do your homework.) Old Harley's were made to LEAKED OIL, that's how they oiled the drive chain. They had a drip hole in the Primary case to purposely drip oil out to oil the drive chain.
I owned the identical bike. Rode it for eight years and 75 000 miles. It was a great ride but the extended warranty paid for itself. Traded it for a 2018 Heritage Classic 114 & love this bike.
My girlfriends grandfather has 3 bikes and is a retired Vietnam vet. He has a 2006 ultra classic with the 88. Bike has 117,000 miles and still going strong…. He’s had to change the foot shifter and other random stuff but nothing major. We ride a lot together and this man RIDES. Rain or not! I rode out of state with him once and my young self was on a Yamaha mt07. After 3-4 hours I started hating life. No windshield, no cruise control, no where to put things. I sold it and bought a 2006 ultra classic identical to his with 28,000 miles. I hope it last as long as his has! Anyways I’m 27 and own an “old man bike”. I watch those crazy sport bikes zoom by all the time. Guess what ? My woman’s on the back and I rode 423 miles last Saturday. I’m in the old man club now. Let’s see your GSXR do that ;)
Rode a 2017 Ultra limited 107ci from RedDeer to Hyder Alaska, it was comfortable, very good on fuel but horrendous on downhill 135Km/h sweepers due to wobbling. Underpowered even with the stg 1 Kit. Overall adequate but not worth the money.
Can you drop some wisdom on what maintenance may be needed on higher miles bikes, and how to check for walk away signs before buying? Thanks for all your content!
Twin cams will shred a timing chain tensioner in a heartbeat without warning and totally destroy an engine. I would only have one with the solid timing gear set up. Some people say it whines but hell with the Harley pipes and the wind It is hardly noticeable and I pretend its a supercharger whine lol.
@@twatson6252 thanks exactly where my head was at bc my car is due for a timing belt change and the cost is not fun. If i were buying a used bike and had to account for that kind of work on the bike itd probably skip the high mileage one and invest that money in a higher proced low mileager.
When you mention old Harley days with oil pans when parking them. There were chain lubricators installed, which caused the dripping. Also true, that my ‘89 Electra Glide Sport had issues with a blown cylinder foot gasket on the left side. Once fixed in warranty time, once by myself in the 70.000 miles I rode it and later the friend I gave it fixed the issue with red Dirko flex. sealing silicone.
A kind soul swapped with me for a few miles on a group tour, and surprisingly I really loved the electra glide. It felt confident in the twisties and it was insultingly comfortable. If I would buy a harley, it would be this. Perhaps second only to the Gold Wing.
I have a 2008 105th Anniversary with just over 22,000 miles on it. It's just great for me. As far as being Old Man's Bike's, my stepson bought a used Electra Glide when he was 20 and in college. Was able to carry all the stuff he needed (Laptop, books, notebooks etc and rain gear) on the bike. But ride what you want and stay safe.
I have an Electra glide standard but I wouldn’t say the E-glides are a beginner bike because they do weigh between 8-900 lbs it is definitely a bike you do not want to drop great video though
You are definitely correct. Not that it's an advanced bike, but a guy better have some proper riding skills before hopping on one of these in town or with a passenger. Coming from a guy that had a few bad habits. Thank God for the crash bar, cuz these are heavy bikes to pick up.
In the 70s Harley had a line that came from the external oil pump that oiled the rear chain-you could adjust how much the pump put out with a screw on the pump-the manual said a drop every 3 minutes-it was engine oil too !
One reason for older Harley Davidsons leaking oil was because of the auto chain oiler. I Baught a 1980 Fxe Superglide brand new and yes it was an AMF. The chain oiling system could be turned up and off.It never leaked anywhere. FYI
i got a 98 eg ultra its got 45 grand on it and i love it i can ride all day doing 90 mph and never have any issue i stripped mine down left the hard side bags and put ape hangers on it it is top heavy everyone side it was gonna be to big for me im 150 pnds and 5'5 i have dropped her on side couple times and i get it back up on 2 everytime by my self
I have an 08’ ultra classic with just over 30,000. I also have a 21’ Fatboy and would love to get a 16’ ultra from a friend I bought the 08’ from. If I get the 16’, I will sell the fat boy. He had the 08 and an 09. The 09 was the year they came out with antilock brakes. Both were fly by wire throttle. he was very meticulous with his bikes, not working on it himself having a pro mechanic. Every time something new came out, he would have it put on, including changing the dim red gauges to a nice white. Poked fun of me you tubing repairs for the bike and upgrades. i’m now waiting for more parts before I replace the stater in the 08. The stater caused the ignition to burn up, including wiring. Since I have a fat boy, I’ve been stocking up parts for the 08. Waiting to pick up a new compensator to replace Screaming eagle. Also considering upgrading from 96 CI to a 105.

I know this is a fairly old video but I have to ask. How can this motorcycle be considered a beginner to intermediate difficulty for a rider? I was always told you want something light and a fairly small engine.
I had a 2007 Harley ultra, road it all over the east coast, put 50,000 miles on it in 5 years, started having electrical probs so I traded it for a 2013 heritage soft tail, drove that for 2 years, and traded that for my streetglide
I want one of the 70s because of the material quality. They feel heavy. Oil leaks in old models is true and the shift sound from neutral to 1st is a classic.
Have the 07' Ultra Classic...28,000 on it & I love it..way different than my 06' Duece 88...still.love my Duece. But that Electra glide ride is unbeatable
I was in High School 1962-1964 or there abouts. There was a song referencing an Electra Glide in Blue. It drove me(no pun intended) too draw right and left views and color (in blue) Electra's right down to the kick stand on all my paper shopping bag book covers. I've always wanted one but fate is a game changer. Do any of you old timers know who or the group was that sang it? I thought it was Dylan or Donavon, Google says no. I'm going crazy.
Would it be a good idea to buy a Harley Softail for cheap but it’s carbureted ( hard start on cold mornings, ethanol will screw up carb, have to buy expensive non ethanol fuel, have to adjust every so often )? Wondering if it’d be buying a headache.
My bike has a carb. Every point you mention is not any issue. I have no issues ever. I have removed my carb and changed jet sizes. Very simple. Also a big plus-you are not at the mercy of a computer!
When I bought my 2018 Ultra Limited at 38 the dealer was telling me I was too young, but once I rode one, I’ll never go back. Still have my FXRs and ride them religiously. If I’m doing 500 miles or more..big red is my choice for the ride

I felt the same way but then I grew into the ultra. I became the old man
Same I’ve just turned 39 and love my 2012
Ultra Classic is an ICON.

I don’t like Ultra on the fender. I buy Classics, then add all the Ultra stuff, except the cb!
At 50 I started with a 2001 Low Rider, put 20000 miles on it. Sold it, got a 2003 Road King w 9000 miles on it, sold it w/ 72000 miles on it. I now own a 2009 Ultra Classic that I found last year with 3600 miles on it. Previous owner bought it, put $10,000 in upgrades and NEVER rode
it. I "stole" it for $12,000 and it is my retirement ride. My last and my favorite. Like they say , why travel the country in a Chevy, when you can do a Caddy.
smart!!!!
I like the converted trikes that keep guys out riding.
Just convert it into a trike at very old age.
The old man comments brought a smile to my face, well put.
Agreed! Glad I can afford one... :)
I’m 22 with an Electra Gilde, love it more than the first day I bought it
I’m also 22 with an Electra glide. Nice work dude!

Just bought my second bike and its a electra glide, upgrading from a sportster. Little nervous lmao

David Greve .... There is nothing inside of a Harley Davidson engine that you can check with plastiguage 5th
I also love riding recumbent bicycles flevo.de/images/cm/800er/ghost_1024.jpg
My favorite bike is only for nice weather rowingbike.com/en/posts/model/thys-222-revolver/
My current motorbike is a Kawasaki W650 with electric but also very good kickstart.

I would ride it. Am tired of sports bike. They just so uncomfortable. Thats why now am considering a cruiser bike since i rode my friends boulevard. You enjoy riding more in a cruiser then a sports bike. My opinion.

My 1970 Electra Glide didn't leak a drop once I turned off the automatic chain oiler. Just had to basically turn a bolt. Then it no longer marked its spot.
I have that exact model. Even the same color. Not one drop of oil on the garage floor. Several FL to NY trips and I enjoyed every minute!
Harleys lost their soul after the shovel.

My 55 Panhead leaked oil on purpose... The dry clutch had a adjustable drip oiler on the primary chain that would build up and when you took the bike off the side stand it drained out of the primary via a hole that was factory.. True story!
Thanks for sharing, that is obviously where the rumor came from as well as being a neat piece of mechanical information.
My 70 Electra Glide had an automatic drive chain oiler that could be turned off by basically turning a bolt. After that it no longer marked its spot. Some of the older ones needed some silicone added to a few gaskets as Harley machining tolerances weren't as exact back before the mid 80s. Nothing sounds like a shovel head with drag pipes.
great bike. will last forever if you keep changing the oil once a week.

Oil leaking Harley’s were not from improper maintenance. There was a oil dripper on the old bikes lubing the primary that was dry.

I absolutely love my 2011
I'm old and my 2004 is now 20 model years old.

Up
Out of all my Harley’s I owned, six to be exact. From my NEW Sportster, Dyna, Softail, then Electra Glide! The 1997 FLHTIP, ex police bike has been the most favorite for me!
Not Old Man Here...I ride an Ultra.
I'm 32. I have a 2013 blackline and I love it. Just bought a 04 ultra classic as well and I love that thing. I ride it more then the blackline
The famous "Harley oil leak" from the older days was actually caused by the chain oiler. It worked kind of similar to a chainsaw chain oiler.
The leaking oil comes the tin primary constant loss oil systems prior to 1964 and older. The shovelhead and prior drips oil from the automatic chain oiling system.
We have the 2016 CVO and absolutely love it. We had three Harley so far this is our favorite
Let’s see your GSXR do that ;)
My first harley was an 84 FXRT- loved it. The Ultra has such a smooth ride it is easy to go long distances on it.
I have an Electra glide standard but I wouldn’t say the E-glides are a beginner bike because they do weigh between 8-900 lbs it is definitely a bike you do not want to drop great video though
bastard with a beard I absolutely agree. A beginner will drop this bike numerous times.
You are definitely correct. Not that it's an advanced bike, but a guy better have some proper riding skills before hopping on one of these in town or with a passenger. Coming from a guy that had a few bad habits. Thank God for the crash bar, cuz these are heavy bikes to pick up.
Just got a 2014 two days ago. No complaints
" Honda Goldwings are Superior to ANY THING Harley has"..... "Were not in the business of selling bikes..we Sell a Image"... Willy G. Davidson .. He's 100% Right .I took his advise..Got off the Ultra and tried a Goldwing...After a Lifetime since the 70,s of Harley devotion to the Vtwins Vibration and Loud Rumble...the brotherhood and such...I Began to appreciate all over what Motorcycling Really is.. Honda Goldwing The Love Of Riding a Magnificent Machine..Being part of it ..The unsurpassed Engineering..The Raw But Refined Power..The smooth Ride you Always wanted your Harley to have but never got..Hearing Nature Again and Not Drowning it out.. Incredible Performance and Handling...I KNOW some of my friends are Stuck with Harley's due to MC Rules..Once Anyone who has rode Harley's for years Gets on the Wing and Rides they are Converted and ready to ditch their Hog...Only one guy wouldn't..He Even said the Wing was Definitely A All around better Bike and He wanted a Goldwing..He said But my Ego can't let me leave Harley..The Image the loud pipes and all..all the t-shirts from different dealerships..the Harley Leather..the boots etc...
They look nice. From what I heard, the Goldwings are made for a slightly smaller frame person... as most of their customers are like that.
Owned 5 Harleys Dynas Road Kings and just bought a 2014 FLHTK LIMITED ..10780 MILES ..Its a couch on wheels
Put the Battlestar Galactica sticker on the TRUNK ..LOL and its loaded Rinehart FULL exhaust .chrome levers chrome controls center stand chrome..chrome lower legs
Antenna delete with Sirius two tone Charcoal Grey and Black
A little unruly in low speed parking lot situations
Cuz its 900 lbs
I call it the legal bike...because unless you are Hooligan Extroidinaire ..your not going to be poppin wheelies or doing David Mann slide into the Bar parking lot sideways on the Battlestar..it really makes you aware of like ..Hey what the FK am I going to do when I pull into this really crappy pot hole parking lot with a 45 degree 3 ft long entrance ..on my old FXDWG ..THE " DOG "
No problem I'll jump a curb and do a burn out in the grass..not gonna happen on the Battlestar..
But on the big road shhhhhhit ya
Chrome highway pegs
Anybody got any CHROME cleaner ?
I know this is a fairly old video but I have to ask. How can this motorcycle be considered a beginner to intermediate difficulty for a rider? I was always told you want something light and a fairly small engine.
2015 Ultra Classic here, which I proudly refer to as my Geezer Glide.
I had a 2007 Harley ultra, road it all over the east coast, put 50,000 miles on it in 5 years, started having electrical probs so I traded it for a 2013 heritage soft tail, drove that for 2 years, and traded that for my streetglide
My first Harley is an 08 Electra glide trike. I love it. She is comfortable and fun to ride. I got it 3 years ago. Have 30000 on it.
I want one of the 70s because of the material quality. They feel heavy. Oil leaks in old models is true and the shift sound from neutral to 1st is a classic.
Nice bike, just not my style. Hope it sells quickly. God bless and ride on.
First thing that I saw after I was born was a 1955 Harley and I remember the hot engine smell and the click sound from the exhaust system.
