Going to add my vote for Elton’s Captain Fantastic album. It’s magnificent. The closing tracks of “We All Fall in Love Sometimes” and “Curtains” will melt your heart and of course the superb “Someone Saved My Life Tonight”. He was still very much at his peak here in 1975.
I see others have also recommended Elton John’s “Don’t Shoot Me, I’m Only The Piano Player” and I have to agree. I mentioned previously that all of his early 1970’s albums are outstanding. But “Don’t Shoot Me” is one of my favorites, “Daniel” and “Crocodile Rock” were the singles but “Blues For Baby And Me” just knocks me out. The thing about Elton was he wasn’t just knocking out singles, there really isn’t any filler on his albums. Pretty much any song from any of his first ten albums (yes, ten albums in about five years) could have been a hit single.
Hello Melinda ! This is an interesting subject. Although the ”must-have” records are very much influenced by each collectors taste and preferences. Also ; the exposure you’ve been subjected to surtain albums , nostalgia and pure peer pressure from common knowledge. We’ve plowed through our records and came to these 5 albums each : Annette 1. Def Leppard - Pyromania 2. Bon Jovi - Slippery when wet 3. Whitesnake - 1987 4. Dio - Holy diver 5. Rainbow - Bent out of shape Roger : 1. Sex Pistols - Nevermind the bollocks 2. Nirvana - Nevermind 3. Pink Floyd - Pulse 4. Led Zeppelin II 5. Jimi Hendrix experience - Axis bold as love We could’ve easily picked 15 each , but these are the ”desert island” choices for OUR part. They ment something special. They made a difference. They changed our perspective. In other words ; they are OUR ”must-have”s. In my case ; my sons gave me the pistols album cover as a tattoo on my arm for my 40th birthday. Stay safe & take care. /A & R.
One of my all time favorite Elton John Records, (and I have just about all of them on CD) is "Don't Shoot Me, I'm only the Piano Player!" I loved every song on that album so much I memorized every song and can (or could.....memory's going to hell now...LOL) sing them all back to you (and could kill any one I could find at karaoke nights). They really cheaped out on the Amazon vinyl reissue, printing the lyrics insert very badly on cheap paper with horrible colors, but at least the music sounds alright. There might be a FEW of his later albums I wouldn't care to get on vinyl, but most of his early to middle career pressings I certainly would (I only have two so far on vinyl) Another pressing you might not have heard of is "Empty Sky". Fantastic songs, but only a few made it onto the radio. Great video, as usual, Melinda! Till next time!
Hey Melinda great video! Thank you. You told me to let you know 2 things in your replies in previous videos. 1. The mono cartridge makes a Massive difference for mono records! I thought my mono records sounded great before but Holy Moly! I’m enjoying them twice as much now! It’s nice having an interchangeable headshell, so I’m able to easily switch between the two. So Worth It!!! My mono records are blowing my mind now. Now I understand the hype of mono. Also the Ortofon mono cart is Dead Silent! One thing I heard about listening to mono records with a stereo cart is that you’ll get more surface noise. Boy was that true! 2. The new 2022 40th anniversary Motley Crue reissues sound fantastic! They Do need to be cleaned first because of the laminated paper inner sleeves, but… They finally did the Crue right! They are a little dialed down volume wise, but no matter. Crank them up a notch and they sound awesome! Highly recommended. Especially nice to have a good Shout At The Devil pressing. Anyway thanks again and take care
I'm so happy for you. That's awesome. I did pick up Shout at the Devil and this version does sound better than my other reissue copy. I had to clean my copy too. Thank you and take care.
I agree Thomas. I run a second turntable with a Grado MC+ mono cartridge (because it was a pain switching out the stereo & mono cartridges). The fact of reduced surface noise on the mono cartridge is a plus. I initially bought it because I got "The Beatles In Mono" vinyl box, but I also find myself seeking out mono pressings as well. Do you as well? Nice to chat with a kindred spirit. Cheers (PS Hey Melinda, haven't forgotten you, my comment is elsewhere 😉👍😘)
@@peterx1957 I sought out more mono records within my own collection and found I have 17 other mono records besides my 3 Beatle monos. My favorites so far are my Analogue Productions Buddy Holly, Elvis and Roy Orbison. I am trying to get Beach Boys in mono though. Thanks 👍
This video got me thinking. Based on many of the albums I've seen you showcase, I think I have a recommendation that you've never heard of. It is something I discovered when it first came out in the mid-70's because I was a hi-fi salesman in a store that also sold vinyl. It is Stomu Yamashta's "Go". It is definitely a concept album and to listen correctly you start with side two and listen all the way through the entire album. The players are ALL top notch and even include Michael Shrieve on drums (The killer drummer for Santana at Woodstock and now a serious jazz drummer) as well as Al Dimeola, Steve Winwood, Klaus Schulze and Rosco Gee. Most people would categorize it as "weird" jazz music, but it's one of my favorites from that time period. It needs to be listened to in full and with the lights low and eyes closed. With or without your adult beverage of choice. With a good system it will send you past the solar system riding on the back of Voyager. You can sample the whole thing here and start with the song, Space Requium. Enjoy!: ua-cam.com/video/g53zcpaXT8o/v-deo.html
Thank you very much. I will definitely give it a listen. It sounds like top notch musicians are involved so I bet it's great. Thank you again. Take care.
@@MelindaMurphy ON the 50th anniversary of Woodstock there was a writeup of Michael Shrieve in the Seattle times. His performance on "soul Sacrifice" at woodstock was the highlight of the movie. And he was playing at the "White Rabbit" in the Freemont neighborhood in Seattle (where I lived at the time). I went there and this small club was absolutely packed (because of the article, I suspect. But I was blown away by his band, Spellbound. And his playing? HOLY COW! The guy never stopped improving. And the same can be said of every member of that band. I talked to him later and naturally picked up one of their CD's. Comically, I had not made the connection to my Go and Go Too albums. What a putz! 😋 BTW, I became a regular at the White Rabbit on his nights for a few months. It was a lot more fun when the crowds were smaller.
As one of those who recommend Avalon Thank you for considering it I couldn't be happier with your openness and delight with the album Enjoy! God bless!
As a 60's aficionado on music, one of the best vinyls I loved was The Rolling Stones "Their Satanic Majesties Request". The record was their 1st unique experiment with a psychedelic sound and featured a three-dimensional picture of the band on the cover by photographer Michael Cooper.
Hello Melinda, thankyou so much for sending me. You're reply after my comment. I am getting hooked on you're channel I look forward to watching it every day. I just love all the great music you're into , having been a collector for 50 odd years I can relate to how much collecting venal means to you. I think you're doing a great job, and just love you're take on all the new stuff you have. Wow I'm thrilled with you're taste in music it's very similar to mine well take care Melinda and I will keep watching you're channel as I am such a fan of it.
I purchased the "Carl and the Passions" twofer when it first came out. Back then, the Beach Boys were no longer considered cool by a lot of music fans, and that probably affected the record's sales. Anyway, if I remember correctly, the Beach Boy's plan on each upcoming new record was to pair it with an old album and release them as twofers. But I believe they only did it that one time.
My Reprise is pretty well worn at this point - along with the cover. I think this one was in the cutout bins a month or two after release. And gotta admit, they were running on fumes after Brian's meltdown.
I'm so glad that they did this one. What a treasure. I'm also glad that The Beach Boys are celebrated now. Perhaps they are the greatest American rock band of all time? They are definitely high on the list. Thank you and take care.
@@MelindaMurphy Yes, they were my favorite band during my grade school years in the mid-'60s, probably because of my love of car culture and model car building. I moved on to Hendrix, Zeppelin and the Who in high school, but never lost my love for the Beach Boys.
Hi Melinda Good choice of records. Captain Fantastic and Goodbye Yellow Brick Road are to me great Elton John records. I got very lucky on a estate sale. That Bee Gees record I found. It has the red fuzzy cover. So much great music I cant even choose. Have a great week!🙂👍
@@marktait2371 That's great! You can find some great records and in good shape. The art on the captain is so different. Happy for you. Let me know if you find anything else. Have a great day.🙂
Mark, wow you hit the jackpot! Good for you. It is fun finding records in different places. You never know what you will find. Happy record shopping! Stay in touch...🙂👍
Thank you, Melinda and Michael Fremer. Years ago, I picked up a mint copy of Carl and The Passions "So Tough" 2-fer for $5.99 at my friend Jim Dunn's "Planet Grooves" in Clearwater 25 years ago. I had no idea how significant that particular pressing of Pet Sounds was. Now I do. Carl and the Passions is The Beach Boys. This LP was released when the Beach Boys were fading from the public consciousness. Does anyone remember that The Beach Boys showed up at Fillmore East as friends and guests of The Grateful Dead in the spring of 1971 just before The Fillmore closed? Apparently, anyone who was lucky enough to have been there could not believe when in the middle of a Grateful Dead show, Jerry paused and said: "we have some really good friends here that we would like to bring them on stage and jam with" and out walked The Beach Boys. Melinda, I have recommended many LPs to you, and I have never once seen you say: "I bought this on a viewer's recommendation, and it is wonderful". So here goes: The Beach Boys - "Surf's Up". One of their very best LP's. If you buy it and don't love it, I will buy it from you. So, make sure it is in good shape LOL.
I do have Surf's Up, a beautiful copy from Analog Productions. It's one of the most beautiful sounding records in my collection. ♥️ What a wonderful surprise to see The Beach Boys at that time. I got to see them in the 80's. Thank you and take care.
@@MelindaMurphy OK. Give "Holland" a listen. That was the last of their great era. (While you are at it, include "Sunflower"). Brian Wilson once said "Steamboat" was one of his favorite songs on Holland and certainly of those penned by "bad boy" Dennis Wilson. The picture on the back cover tells a thousand tales of the state that Brian was in. How ironic, he is the only one alive. Maybe there is hope for us lost stoners from back then. But Brian had a boatload of talent, I have little to none.
Hi Melinda, I just started watching your videos so I don't really know you and your musical tastes that well but I'm going to list some of my favorite songs and maybe you already know them but if not, you can check them out. I am just about to turn 62 so my memories are vast but concentrated on mostly Top 40, AM radio rock that I grew up with in the 60's and 70's as well as early 80's. These are in no particular order...just as I think of them. 1. Pictures of Matchstick Men - Status Quo 2. Talking in Your Sleep - Romantics. There is a 5-minute version of this on 12 inch, 45 that I have but have not listened to yet. 3. Incense and Peppermints - Strawberry Alarm Clock. 4. Nancy's Minuet - Everly Brothers. This tune was released in '63 but was not a big hit for them. It is a great song. 5. The Happening - Diana Ross and the Supremes. This song is from '67 and was part of a soundtrack album. 6. Something Stupid - Frank and Nancy Sinatra. A beautiful number 1 hit from '67. 7. Train of Thought - Cher. From her '74 Dark Lady album. I have an original copy of Dark Lady that I got in June of '74 for about 5 dollars from Kmart when I was 14. I have many more but age is catching up to me. I enjoy your videos and insight. Thank you for them, Jon in NH
I love those selections. I absolutely love Cher. Sonny & Cher was the first musical experience that I remember as a child. ♥️ Thank you for watching and for sharing some of your musical choices. Fantastic!!!
Love this video! All of Elton's albums from 1970-1975 are incredible, but Tumbleweed Connection is a hidden gem in his discography. It contains no "hits" but is a totally immersive listening experience from beginning to end. Beautiful guitar from Caleb Quaye, transcendent performances from Elton, and a spectacularly good recording. UK pressings of Elton's records are consistently better (same with Moody Blues). Bee Gees Odessa is worth finding!
I've been using Avalon as a demo disk for ages - I have an SACD version of that as well. I was a big Roxy Music fan back in the 70's, and had pretty much written them off after Flesh + Blood. They really went out on a high note. One I can recommend highly is Dead Can Dance _Into the Labyrinth,_ although the original 4AD UK pressing had some not so great vinyl, and the MoFi version tends to go for about $500 - the UK pressing $150 in VG+. It's not for everybody, but the instruments and ambience are out of this world.
Into the Labyrinth was my first Dead Can Dance album and still my favorite. I first got it on cd and within the last year I picked it up on vinyl along with four more of their albums. All of them were $30 and under and I believe still available.
Hi, Melinda! I bought Carl and the Passions back in 1972 and have always loved that two-fer. I'm over the moon about the Stones at the El Mocambo, one of their best live albums ever. A couple of newer pressings I love are Three Chords and the Truth by Van Morrison and New Adventures in Hi-Fi, the 25th anniversary edition from R.E.M. Great video, Melinda!
Hi Melinda. Always enjoy your videos. Any Elton from early to mid 70’s are real good. Going back further Badfinger Straight Up and Grateful Dead American Beauty. Tommy James & Shondells Greatest Hits.
I can remember from my earliest age of getting recommendations of what to hear. Seals and Crofts, Dan Fogelberg, , Journey { before Steve Perry, } Atlanta rhythm Section, Poco, I think you get the point. What I remember or not I never forgot those unsung heroes who shaped my musical tastes. Two people in particular are Rick Dangerfield { USN } and my brother Richard. To all those unsung heroes thank you.
Hey Melinda , I just pulled that out yesterday ! Listen to Hold on dear brother on side 2 of Passion. It’s the last record I played yesterday so it,s still on my table ! Great video as usual. By the way those double albums were popular in the 70’s & early 80’s . Take care.
Great stuff as always Melinda. Hope you gave Carl & the Passions a listen as well as Pet Sounds because I think it's a lovely record. The band was moving in a different direction at this point, with Brian less involved, and I'm not sure their label did them too many favours linking it with a classic album from the past when the focus should have been entirely forward looking.
Melinda, you have heard from me once before. I suggested you listen to Paul Simon's "Still Crazy After All These Years," an album I dearly love. In this video, you mentioned another favorite of mine, the BeeGees "Odessa;" what an incredible assemblage of early, prior pop, BeeGees music. One of my other favorites is "In Search Of The Lost Chord" by The Moody Blues. To me, these albums help define an era of honesty in music. Chicago "Five" rates within that group, also, as a standout. I love your videos! You also have exquisite taste, in music and equipment; that Rega table may be the absolute best sound for the buck in all of audio. Keep spinning!! I am so glad you discovered the hobby for the REAL love for the music! Stan
I did give the Paul Simon album a listen and enjoyed it quite a bit. I have Simon's Greatest Hits and will definitely pick up Still Crazy when I see it. Odessa still alludes me but hopefully someday I will find it. Thank you for the kind words. I do love my turntable. It has been so incredible so far. Thank you and take care.
Thank you Melinda! I appreciate you showing my album and adding the bandcamp link. It was a big surprise! Also, I loved the other records that you showed. I found “Avalon” at an antique store about two years ago. I love the production on that album, Bryan’s lyrics, singing, and of course Phil Manzanera’s guitars. It has a magical quality to it. It’s very elegant. I ended up getting other Roxy Music albums because of it. But “Avalon” is my favorite. That Rolling Stones live LP set looks beautiful. Everything you showed was very impressive. I’m definitely going to have to find that Beach Boys mono. It’s one of my favorite albums and I don’t have it. There’s just so many amazing albums…. So many keep calling my name.
There's so many Mikes in this community lol, pretty cool subject Melinda, I have never seen that version of Pet Sounds an interesting find thats for sure. Avalon is one of those life memories so many awesome tracks.
Haha! It's hard to keep track of all of the Mike's in the VC. Lol. Avalon is a wonderful album. I can't believe I didn't hear it when it first came out. Thank you and take care.
Thanks for the nudge, Melinda. I need to add the oft recommended Beach House to my subconscious fascination with watery groups! (I'm currently exploring The Ocean Blue's catalog.) I had the WB mono LP, the Capitol mono LP, & the Capitol mono CD, but it was the Capitol StEreO remixed (*gasp*) by Mark Linnet version of Pet Sounds that really captured me, bathing me in "all round sound" that Brian couldn't experience since he didn't have good hearing in both ears. I know this is heresy, but to me the stereo early Beach Boys releases are definitely headphone albums.
@@jackwezesa1081 That's an interesting point. By the time the teenage me purchased those records, we were well into the stereo age. One would think that reissues in the '70's would've figured out how to make them sound very good on modern phonos. (Maybe it can't really be done!)
@@patbarr1351 I know . I started buying records in 1968 and I tell younger people that you could buy a mono or stereo copy (stereo was slightly higher in price) , it blows their mind !
The Beach Boys Pet Sounds is my favorite album of all time! My Dad has all the originals and I bought the Kevin Gray Mono pressing from Acoustic Sounds and it is incredible. But I am super curious about the Carl and the Passions pressing. I will be on the lookout!
I hope you find it. It's not expensive but sounds fantastic. It's such a beautiful record. If you love Pet Sounds, you may also love Odyssey and Oracle by The Zombies. I put them on the same level. Thank you and take care.
Thanks for the shout out Melinda! I appreciate it. I wish more people would give feedback. I am approaching 200 sales on Discogs, but only 77 have left feedback. Glad you dig that Dylan cover. I think it's awesome you will be hanging it on the wall. Enjoy the Basement Tapes album. Thanks again and Rock On!
Thank you Brian! I just bought a better frame for it today. It will be proudly displayed in our theater room. I didn't mention this but I have actually stood in that same spot when I was in NYC. It's a shame that more people don't leave feedback. That would be extremely helpful. Thank you again for being an amazing seller and I am such a fan of your channel. Take care.
@@MelindaMurphy That's pretty awesome. I hope you and Phillip took a picture similar to this one when you stood there. How neat would that be? Rock on Melinda.
Very cool video Melinda. I will have to check out a couple of those albums. Great score on the Elton John record. Love that Tigerlily album. My favorite is Carnival too. Could put that one on a loop lol Motherland is a very good album by her as well. I think its still available by MOV Thanks for the shout out and have a great week! 🤓 Oh yes, I have fallin in love Ha!
I must agree, Max. I was lucky enough to pick it up in an original issue in NM condition. It is one of The Rascals' most underrated albums, a real sleeper that never fails to delight. Too bad the fans didn't follow them when they went in this funky and jazzy direction.
@@audiophileman7047 I know, right?! I too have an OG pressing. I also have the factory recorded reel to reel tape issue. It’s held up really well. There’s great music here!
@@jmfloyd23 It's always great to see artists stretch out and go in a new direction. Unfortunately, their fans were stuck on the old rock and blue eyed soul stuff that made them famous. A while back I recommended the album to Melinda as one of those under the radar gems. It's so cool that you have a reel to reel tape of it. 😻
@@MelindaMurphy Max is absolutely correct about this Rascals album, Melinda. I recommended this album to you in the past as well, and now you have two solid recommendations. If you like a really good rock, soul, funk, and jazz album, you will really enjoy this under the radar gem. 👍👍👍
Good evening Melinda. I was I need of this type of video with soooooo many people still ranting about Mobile Fidelity a big thank you for introducing us to great sounding records that are available. Isn’t this is what record collecting for most of us is about. Treating our ears with with some wonderful music. 👍
I agree. I was more than ready to move on from the MoFi drama as well. Just sitting back and listening to records is exactly what I needed after all of that. ♥️ Thank you and take care.
There is a very good deal on the black vinyl version on Amazon right now. I wouldn't be promoting Amazon but since you have checked other places then it makes a good last option. Best wishes to you. Take care.
I remember buying that Roxy Music Avalon when it came out in 1982 when I was a junior in college. Bought a Japanese pressing at about the same time. As time has gone on, I have become more of a Roxy Music fan. Nice video.
I too would have to agree Elton John's " DONT Shoot Me I'm Only The Piano player " is a must have album to get. Track after track with good blend of motion music. Try purchasing the first press version which sounds the best. Try it you won't be disappointed.
Thanks for another great video. I really appreciate your recommendations of great-sounding records that are something other than jazz. In the vein of Once, Twice, Melody and its beautiful production values, I recently took a Michael Fremer recommendation and picked up Gillian Welch's album "The Harrow and the Harvest." The quality of every aspect of it, disc, sleeve, and record, is amazing. It's fairly depressing Appalachian music, but the sound stage is super defined and it's hauntingly beautiful.
Interesting, I'll have to search out that Pet Sounds. I've always loved the El Macombo story. I've had the April Wine album from that show for about 10 years and love it. I will probably grab the Stones as well.
The black vinyl version has dropped significantly in price on Amazon. The concert has a great tracklisting of songs that their other concert albums don't have.
Great video Melinda 👍 I have a suggestion on a album but I don’t have it. I have the Cd. Anyway you got to check this record out the group is Black Swan. Jeff Pilson from Dokken, Reb Beach from white snake, Winger , Nightranger. Matt Starr on drums and the lead singer is Robin Macauley is fantastic. The album is called Generation Mind. You got they this. Old School Rock at its finest.
I got that Beach boys album a few years ago and wasn't sure exactly what I had, somebody in the VC told me that was the best sounding mono pet sounds I could find and sure enough it sounds wonderful.. I think I got it in a box of free records
Hi Melinda, thanks for the recommendations. Actually paused the video to go and buy Roxy Music, Avalon. Can’t wait for it to arrive. It’s also going to serve as a fantastic test record for the new cartridge I’m treating myself to at the end of the month. Cheers, Mark.
Thanks for another great video. You should check out Elton John's Tumbleweed Connection. It's his first masterpiece and one of my favorites. Bernie Taupin's Americana lyrics were influenced by The Band.
I will definitely be on the lookout for that album. I have decided to pick up those early Elton albums when I see one in good shape. Thank you and have a great weekend.
Dear Melinda, I´m following your channel now for about 2 month and I like it very much. Concerning Carl and the Passions I bought it here in Germany in 1972 as a Club Edition. The record which changed my taste of music drastically was in 1969 King Crimson - In the court of the Crimson King on the Pink Island Label.
Really glad that you’re a Beach Boys fan! .. and Michael called that right .. the pairing with ‘So Tough - Carl and The Passions’ is a perfect recommendation.
That Freewheelin Bob Dylan cover . It is just a young couple in love walking down a pretty depressing New York st. Nothing should be special about it. BUT....I just get this huge emotional hit everytime i see it.It just has 'something' that speaks to the human condition. It is the greatest cover of all time and always will be.
I agree. There's just something about it. Two young people in love with their lives ahead of them. It's very striking to me because now Bob is 81 and most of his life (and hers) has played out. She always said that album cover was the elephant in the room any time she met someone new. I have actually stood in that very spot when I went to NYC. ♥️ Thank you and take care.
Thanks Melinda You've put me onto a couple of artists i've never heard of I would love to buy the Michael Christiansen - Galactic Clarity on vinyl, but the postage to the UK is a much as the cost of the vinyl 😢 But the Beach House - Once twice melody I can get on Amazon Another great video & look forward to your next 👌🏻❤
Great video Melinda. As I hit my middle aged stride I find myself going back to the music eras and genres 'before my time', for new music. Specifically 70s and early 80s. I'll check out some of your recommendations.
''Rock of the Westies is one of Eltons underated albums.I'm glad you showed the Rolling Stones "El Mocambo"album. Was not sure if it had been released yet.Anyway, another great video.Take Care,Melinda..
For Elton, I'd get Tumbleweed Connection, Honky Chateau, Don't Shoot Me, I'm Only The Piano Player and Caribou! Blue Moves is great, but it's a grower, you might not like it at first but after a few listens, you'll love it.
@@MelindaMurphy I forgot one and usually this one you can find for really cheap and in NM or VG++ condition. The soundtrack to Friends. The song named "Michelle's Song" is worth getting the lp for.
Please check out Elton John’s 11-17-70 album. Very early Elton with just piano, drums, and bass. The sound is fantastic, and if you’re into bass guitar, Dee Murray shows why the band didn’t need a guitarist for this gig.
Hey Melinda, now you have to find a copy of 'April Wine Live at the El Mocambo' to complete the set with 'The Cockroaches' better known as 'The Rolling Stones.' Another great album by 'April Wine' released in 1973 is ; Electric Jewels which contains the single, Weeping Widow. Just thought I would pass this on to you as I still have my original copy as well as the El Mocambo live album. Take care and have a great summer.
Hey, howdy! If I'm correct mono was the way to go when there were little compact record players and the speakers were close together. When technology separated the speakers stereo was born (not to mention quad.) Peace on earth.
I agree! Stereo was a great innovation. Listening to mono records gives us the experience of hearing a record the way the record was originally intended to sound. I personally enjoy both versions of many albums - especially 60's rock. Thank you and take care.
Great video as ever Melinda. I don’t know if you listen to my fav ever band Tedeschi Trucks Band??? I totally adore this band. Susan Tedeschi’s voice is amazing. Her husband Derek Trucks is a total wizard with the slide guitar. I recommend the Revelator album. It is glorious. Listen to Midnight in Harlem. Awesome lyrics beautifully sung. Also give a listen to their Moon Project albums. Four separate albums. I have all four. Take care Melinda. Thanks once again. Regards Dave
Enjoyed your video Melinda. Rock of the Westies is boss. Street Kids is the most underrated song on it. Love it. Recommend you also get Two Low for Zero by Elton to. I'm going to pick up that Rolling Stones colored vinyl. Thanks for showing it! Have a beautiful August!
Melinda! Isn't the Michael Christensen AWESOME? I picked up his whole catalog after Professor Carlson talked about him a couple weeks ago! Where'd you hear about him, you didn't say...but man he is one of the best discoveries I've ever made - love every single thing he's put out! While I'm here, you need to pop over and enter my contest - tons of people are asking me when you're going to enter, they can't wait to see what obscure albums you have! Cheers, have a great week!!
Mike Christensen’s album is wonderful good to see it shown. Avalon from Roxy Music is my favorite album by them but I have not brought it back into my collection, good to hear about this new remastered album. I could not get into The Basement Tapes and I’m a big fan of the band, glad it clicked with you. My collection is packed with recommendations, I will never retire
Hello Melinda, I love Tigerlily I got mine when it first came out from AP I agree Fremer has a world of knowledge when it comes to music, especially Jazz when he recommends something I try and make sure I listen to it.
Hi Melinda 🌞 - Nice to hear Pet Sounds as Brian wanted it heard .. in magnificent mono. Love Avalon by Roxy Music particularly The Main Thing. It's a standard for testing in new equipment. Aural bliss 😊
Glad to see you are wearing your good taste in music with that cool Dylan shirt. I keep kicking myself for having to sell my mono OG of Pet Sounds. Yes I got a great price for it which I needed at the time, but I know I'll never have it again. That is a really cool two-fer you have of it there. I'm happy you decided to get Avalon by Roxy Music, what a beautiful album! That title track with the guest female background vocals is one of the most lovely pop songs ever in my opinion. Rock of the Westies is an overlooked album unfortunately. Vinyl Ritchie also mentioned that "Don't Shoot Me I'm Only the Piano Player" is also a favorite and it is another one worth having, one of my favorites by Elton. I don't know how the song "Have Mercy on the Criminal" is not considered one of his best songs, his vocals are so amazing on that one. The Stones is always best when they have those intimate concerts, just like on the "Stripped" album. You convinced me to put El Macambo on my wantlist. Excellent purchase with The Basement Tapes, very nice! Great episode Melinda!
I'm listening to Avalon as I write this.🤗 Beautiful. I am going to pick up more Elton John albums while they are still plentiful in the dollar bins. Thank you for the suggestion. Take care.
Great video as always. I agree with you on the Roxy Music greatest hits. I purchased it recently and have not been able to connect with it yet. Avalon is on my want list and love the title track and the song More Than This. Everything from Natalie Merchant I love going back to 10,000 maniacs and all her solo work. I only have Motherland on vinyl, which I play quite a bit. I keep going back to it.
This is my first Natalie Merchant album. I may have to go back and listen to more of her music. I do remember 10,000 Maniacs. Avalon was a great way to get into Roxy Music. I will give some other albums a listen but I don't think their early music is for me. Thank you and take care.
I am so glad you enjoyed the music on that record, your story about the Bee Gees Odessa, is very funny it does look just like Depression Cherry, I don't have that one, the one I would recommend is Teen Dream, the songs " 10 mile stereo" or "Walk in the Park" are two stand outs from that one you might enjoy, thank you so much for the kind words and the shout out. Glad to hear the flooding was not near you, take care and Peace.
Years and years ago, I was given a box of random cassettes from a distributor and I found a band/album that I ended up playing to this day. I haven't seen all of your videos and not sure if you've covered it, but They Might Be Giants album Flood is so much fun, unique, and addictive! It took me a few plays, but this album grew on me quickly. Interestingly, my wife and I often play the album while doing puzzles. Anyway, curious if you have the album and if you enjoy it? Cheers!
Another thing...Carl & the Passions came out on its own in the UK and the band toured Europe around the same time, playing a few festivals. They actually achieved their goal of being quite hip for a while this side of the pond.
Since you recommended Song for my father in one of your older videos, I went out and got it and love the album. I am recommending Snarky Puppy We like it here. It is a live in studio performance. I recommend you watch the UA-cam videos of the performance before listening to the album.
Hi Melinda. I'm not sure how big you are on The Monkees, but since everyone knows their first 3 or 4 albums; especially the first 2, I'd recommend one of their overlooked and underrated gems. Their 2nd to last album "PRESENT". If you haven't heard it yet it was originally supposed to be a double album back in 68-69, but the powers that be made it a single release. I'd describe it as rootsy and earthy but dark. It has some of Michael Nesmith's best songs! I have the Friday Music version along with the CD and cassette, but if you can find a good vinyl version I highly highly recommend that beauty!
I know this sounds crazy but I don't own any Monkees albums at all. 😯 I like the hits that they had but I just never see their records in good enough shape to pick up. Thank you for the recommendation. I will look into it. Have a great day.
@@MelindaMurphy Oh my my my!! Just as you said here you like the hits, but sometimes you prefer the deep cuts; same with them. Everyone loves their famous 2 first albums (which admittedly are great) but the real treasure is in their underrated underappreciated other later albums! I think I kinda got a grasp on your taste, and believe me I think you'll highly highly enjoy their deep cuts! Especially the overlooked HEAD, Instant Replay, Present, and Changes albums. Oh! What adventures and wonderful music awaits you!
The back aches after moving records in mass are real! Hope you heal up soon. Really enjoyed the video topic today! VC recommendations have cost me some bucks over the years. And about 90% of the recs have been good ones 😀. Have a great week MM!
Hey Melinda, Great video as always, I dig your content and views on what you choose for your collection. I have Tigerlily as well (copy #7556),fantastic pressing. I had that particular Elton John album once upon a time, but it was so rough I had to let it go. Keeping my eyes open for another copy. Thanks for your opinions, always appreciated and heeded.
Hi Melinda, Thank you for reminding me of Natalie Merchant, Tiger Lilly. I have the CD and have not listened to it in awhile. I will have to listen to it. I went to the record store last weekend and picked up 3 records for $20: 1. Steely Dan, Can't Buy a Thrill 2. The Police, Ghost and the Machine 3. Third World, Arise in Harmony. I wasn't familiar with the 3rd record, but could see it was from Jamaica. I thought it would be Regea like Bob Marley. There is a record player in the store for people to play the record before they buy it upstairs. There was some Regae, but it was mostly R&B Funk. It had beautiful artwork on the cover and $3. I went ahead and bought it to try something different and discover new music.
@@marktait2371 HI Mark, I went to our local record store and found these albums. The person who sold his record collection was mostly 1960s and 70s . He sold them in the morning and I came in that day after work. The owner said I could look in the boxes. They weren't in the new arrival bin yet! I also picked up Talking Heads 77. The red cover with green letters, the Heads first album. Had to have it. All the records cleaned up nicely and sound great. I did pass on a Bob Marley record. The one I would like to have is Exodus, because I like the song "Three Little Birds ". There is a reissue of this record. I am still holding out to find an original. 😊
@@marktait2371 You are probably right. A reissue or CD of Bob Marley, Exodus is probably more realistic and affordable. I can listen to it on Spotify and just enjoy my Bob Marley Legend record. It has all his hits.
my Elton John collection includes - 17-11-70+ (a RSD release a few years ago [2017] at the first RSD I went to - I went late in the day as a typical newbie and missed out on a few things I wanted but saw this and grabbed it) which is a great live recording from November 17, 1970, Diamonds (a greatest hits compilation), the 3 Jewel Box compilations (which has a lot of B sides and rarities and I have it on LP and also CD), Rock Of The Westies, Jump Up!, Honky Château, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Caribou, Friends and I also have a 45 of Crocodile Rock, an 8-track of Elton John songs that someone had recorded over a different 8-track and the 3 greatest hits albums on CD.
Jewel Box (And This Is Me...) is particularly kind of cool because it's an Elton John greatest hits that he curated himself - so basically, HIS favorite songs... some hits, some misses, some never even released as singles. so it's kind of like the audio version of watching the Director's Cut of your favorite movie.
Hey Melinda! I’ve been very concerned about you and your husband with the flooding in Kentucky. I have family in Louisville. I’m relieved to see your ok. Pet Sounds is my favorite Beach Boys album. Never heard of Michael Christiansen but definitely will listen to the album! I appreciate your recommendations very much. As for the MOFI issue…I’m still a fan! I will continue to purchase their albums no matter the issue. Their vinyl records honestly do sound better, cleaner and overall clearer than other pressings. I’m SO looking forward to MOFI’s release of The Eagles albums especially “One of These Nights” album. It’s one my favorite Eagles album. Thanks Melinda for another great video! So happy to see you’re ok. Keeping you and Kentucky in my prayers. Take care! Love & hugs. ❤️🤗Deb
Thank you so much for the kind words and prayers for Kentucky. I live in an area that is not affected. I feel so bad for the people that are. Pet Sounds is my favorite by The Beach Boys as well. ♥️ I'm disappointed with Mobile Fidelity but I still enjoy the way the records sound. Have a great night. Take care.
funny, I listened to ODESSA for the first time last night. The Bee Gees are MUCH more than their DISCO hits which we all know and love. I've been on a Bee Gees kick lately and even started buying Barbara Streisand albums that Barry Gibb wrote, produced and also sang on. I picked up the BEST OF BEE GEES volume 1 and volume 2 over the weekend for only $4.00 each at an antique shop. Volume 2 is a German import and I don't think it was ever released in the U.S. I listened to those over the weekend twice each. I have 2 copies of ODESSA, the original 1969 release with the red flocked cover with a gold lettering which I got for $14.99 and is one of my favorite albums I own and a 1976 re-release on a regular paper cover which I bought the same day for $2.99 because the vinyl was MINT - I didn't realize until last night that the re-release is a single LP and has less songs and it was re-released due to their newfound popularity with the hits from Saturday Night Fever. So if you decide to get ODESSA I recommend getting the original if you can as it is on 2 LP and has all the songs. It's a great concept album and if no one told you it was the BEE GEEs you would think it was the Beatles or Dave Clark 5 or Pink Floyd or King Crimson because it sounds so psychedelic and nothing at all like 'you should be dancing' or 'staying alive'. I also HIGHLY RECOMMEND Barry Gibb's "Greenfields: The Gibb Brothers SongBook Vol. 1 (Target Exclusive)" which came out in February of last year. I was able to find it a lot cheaper on Amazon amzn.to/3QkCNq2 - it is an album of 14 of his Bee Gees hits reinterpreted as country songs and sung as duets with some of country music's biggest stars and legends like Keith Urban, Alison Krauss, Dolly Parton, Sheryl Crow, Olivia Newton-John, etc.and Barry Gibb's voice still sounds as amazing as ever.
I agree! Barry was a tremendous songwriter and their harmonies were gorgeous. They put out great music before and after the disco era but I really do love their disco music. ♥️ Thank you and take care.
I listened to the title track of the Beach House record and WOW! What a beautiful song! It almost put me in a trance. Very peaceful. Love it and will buy the record when I get a chance.

I appreciate your kind words. It will take a while to hit 20,000. I have a ways to go but I'm still shocked that I have over 1,000. I'm so grateful. Thank you and take care.
@@MelindaMurphy Another good UK acid folk groups are Dr Strangely Strange Kip of the Sirenes on Island records. They were an Irish Group. Early 70s. Their 2nd LP is on UKs super collectible Vertigo label and features Gary Moore on guitar. Nice video thanks
I'm sorry for the noise. That was my air conditioning kicking in. I need to find a good microphone for my videos. I enjoy The Basement Tapes as well. Thank you and take care.
Definitely! Thank you! ♥️🔥
I definitely have to buy that album. All of these vinyl collectors can't be wrong. ♥️ Thank you and take care.
My favorite track , beautiful song from senior year in high school! Teacher I need you also!
@@MelindaMurphy You won't be disappointed. It is one of his best from the period. You do have Tumbleweed Connection, correct? :)
Elderberry wine and High flying bird. All the songs on this album are outstanding in their own way.
@@johnbaldwin1832 I also bought Elton’s MCA singles for the B sides when they came out . Great stuff!
Hello Melinda ! This is an interesting subject. Although the ”must-have” records are very much influenced by each collectors taste and preferences. Also ; the exposure you’ve been subjected to surtain albums , nostalgia and pure peer pressure from common knowledge. We’ve plowed through our records and came to these 5 albums each :
Annette
1. Def Leppard - Pyromania
2. Bon Jovi - Slippery when wet
3. Whitesnake - 1987
4. Dio - Holy diver
5. Rainbow - Bent out of shape
Roger :
1. Sex Pistols - Nevermind the bollocks
2. Nirvana - Nevermind
3. Pink Floyd - Pulse
4. Led Zeppelin II
5. Jimi Hendrix experience - Axis bold as love
We could’ve easily picked 15 each , but these are the ”desert island” choices for OUR part. They ment something special. They made a difference. They changed our perspective. In other words ; they are OUR ”must-have”s. In my case ; my sons gave me the pistols album cover as a tattoo on my arm for my 40th birthday. Stay safe & take care. /A & R.
Oh wow! I'm so excited!!! The only album that I don't have is the Rainbow album. ♥️Very cool. Thank you and take care.
Annettes #1 is an outstanding choice
@@darrens7040 : Classic album !
I agree with you about "Don't Shoot Me I'm Only The Piano Player "! I have the cd and the vinyl.
I'll have to pick up that Elton John record and a few others while they are still plentiful out in the wild. Thank you for the suggestions. Take care.
Empty Sky is Elton’s first release from 1969 . It was only available as an import until MCA released it in 1975 here in the states.
Cheers
(PS Hey Melinda, haven't forgotten you, my comment is elsewhere 😉👍😘)
You are so correct about the mono Ortofons!
Enjoy!:

Nice ! I still play it once in awhile , it’s great !
I have the studio and live GO records - original pressings. Most folks at the time just couldn’t understand why Winwood was doing this.
BTW, I became a regular at the White Rabbit on his nights for a few months. It was a lot more fun when the crowds were smaller.
As one of those who recommend Avalon Thank you for considering it I couldn't be happier with your openness and delight with the album Enjoy!
God bless!
It's a gorgeous record that I will play again and again. Thank you for such an amazing suggestion. I'm glad I listened.
Hi Melinda!! I enjoyed this video. I really love the, Natalie Merchant ‘Tigerlily’ record.
I will tune in next time.
Take Care.🎤🎸🎵🎹🥁
Tigerlily is an excellent album. Thank you Dianne!
As a 60's aficionado on music, one of the best vinyls I loved was The Rolling Stones "Their Satanic Majesties Request". The record was their 1st unique experiment with a psychedelic sound and featured a three-dimensional picture of the band on the cover by photographer Michael Cooper.
I love that record too. It's one of my favorites by The Stones. ♥️
I see your Bill Withers Greatest Hits. Behind you. I love this album.
Soothing voice like Lou Rawls!
Hello Melinda, thankyou so much for sending me. You're reply after my comment. I am getting hooked on you're channel I look forward to watching it every day. Wow I'm thrilled with you're taste in music it's very similar to mine well take care Melinda and I will keep watching you're channel as I am such a fan of it.
I'm very honored by your kind comments. I only wish I had started collecting 50 years ago like you did. Thank you and take care.
Correct.
I’ve seen Friends& 20/20 on a twofer but I think you’re right .
Hi Melinda
Good choice of records. Captain Fantastic and Goodbye Yellow Brick Road are to me great Elton John records. I got very lucky on a estate sale. That Bee Gees record I found. It has the red fuzzy cover. So much great music I cant even choose. Have a great week!🙂👍

You need to get Elton John's Captain Fantastic & Caribou !
Agree 100% Captain Fantastic is highly underrated!!
I'm working on it. 🤗
Hi Melinda,
I just started watching your videos so I don't really know you and your musical tastes that well but I'm going to list some of my favorite songs and maybe you already know them but if not, you can check them out. I am just about to turn 62 so my memories are vast but concentrated on mostly Top 40, AM radio rock that I grew up with in the 60's and 70's as well as early 80's. These are in no particular order...just as I think of them.
1. Pictures of Matchstick Men - Status Quo
Thank you for them,
Jon in NH
Tumbleweed is his masterpiece.
Thanks for the suggestion. Elton's albums are still easy to find and affordable. I better pick them up before that changes. Lol. Take care.
Tumbleweed is amazing . I got the red velvet Odessa as a present i 1969 .
Yes, I thought Elton was a country rocker.
Elton’s second disc of Goodby Yellow Brick Road, I found a unused second disc. All The Young Girls Love Alice and Danny Bailey.
Oh wow! That's very pricey. 😯 Lol. Thank you for the suggestions. I do love Avalon. I just gave it another listen tonight. ♥️ Take care.
Into the Labyrinth was my first Dead Can Dance album and still my favorite. I first got it on cd and within the last year I picked it up on vinyl along with four more of their albums. All of them were $30 and under and I believe still available.
Country Life in 74 !
Thank you for the suggestions. I'm loving this Rolling Stones concert as well. ♥️ Take care.
Hi Melinda. Always enjoy your videos. Any Elton from early to mid 70’s are real good. Going back further Badfinger Straight Up and Grateful Dead American Beauty. Tommy James & Shondells Greatest Hits.
Wow! You made excellent suggestions. The only one that I don't already have is American Beauty. I love Tommy James. ♥️ Thank you and take care.
How beautifully said Mike!♥️ I also really like the Atlanta Rhythm Section. The memories make those bands so special.
First Journey album. I heard a track in 75 , I believe and thought it was Santana !
I was thinking about you when I heard about an awful accident in Hazard, KY. I am glad you are doing well!
Thankfully, I don't live near that area but I feel so sad for the ones that are affected. Thank you for your concern. Take care.
Melinda, Elton John's first 4 albums are really worth having. You probably have them already. Madman across the Water is outstanding.
I have a couple of his first records. I will be on the lookout for more. Thank you and take care.
Hey Melinda , I just pulled that out yesterday ! Listen to Hold on dear brother on side 2 of Passion. It’s the last record I played yesterday so it,s still on my table ! Great video as usual. By the way those double albums were popular in the 70’s & early 80’s . Take care.
Thank you! I will give it a listen. 🤗 Take care.
Thanks for mentioning Rock of the Westies. Elton's most underrated album. It rocks like a Stones album.
I really like it too. Thank you and take care.
I bought the record for Pet Sounds but I will listen to Carl & the Passions. Thank you and take care.
Thank you again. 🤗♥️
Hi Melinda, Those are great recommendations. Brought back some good memories on a couple of them. Take care!
Thank you so much! The memories attached to music are part of the magic. ♥️
Always enjoy your upbeat videos
Thank you so much! 🤗♥️
I love the early Beach Boys records. ♥️ Beach House is a very good band. They have such a cool sound and vibe. Thank you and take care.
The mono Capitol only sounds good with a MONO cartridge on a properly set up turntable in my opinion .
Lol. That's not an admittance or denial on whether you have fallen in love. 🥰 Either way, I hope you are happy and doing well. Take care.
Hi Melinda, one last recommended album by Elon John from the 70s title " Caribou "! Alot of ballads in this album. Enjoy Sunshine.
Thank you! I may as well seek out several Elton John albums. I'm sure I would enjoy them. ♥️
One record you should have is the Rascals Peaceful World. One of my favorites! A great album from the early 70’s.
Thank you so much for the suggestion. 🤗
Nice one Melinda. You cannot go wrong with Avalon. Killer album. Agree about Pet Sounds in mono.
I just gave Avalon another spin. What an awesome record. Thank you and take care.
11:56, I'm so jealous that you got the ROLLING STONES El macombo live I've been wanting SOOO much to get it everywhere I went,It was not available.
Nice video.
It's a terrific record. I'm not a huge Roxy Music fan but I'm happy to own this one. Thank you and have a wonderful weekend.
I too would have to agree Elton John's " DONT Shoot Me I'm Only The Piano player " is a must have album to get. Track after track with good blend of motion music. Try purchasing the first press version which sounds the best. Try it you won't be disappointed.
Thank you! Will do! ♥️
I will have to give Gillian Welch a listen. I agree that the production value of the Beach House records is top notch. Thank you and take care.
Sounds like a very cool record. That's quite the super group. Thank you for the suggestion. Take care.
I've always liked the Basement Tapes fold out cover. The Doors' Strange Days is similar. Michael Christensen recommendation excellent. Much Thanks.
I agree! The fold out cover is very cool. I'm so glad you checked out Michael Christensen. ♥️ Thank you and take care.
Luv your Rough & Rowdy Ways tee. It looks great on you.
Thank you so much! 🤗♥️
I got that Beach boys album a few years ago and wasn't sure exactly what I had, somebody in the VC told me that was the best sounding mono pet sounds I could find and sure enough it sounds wonderful.. I think I got it in a box of free records
I'm very impressed with it and I got it for a great deal. ♥️
You'll love it. ♥️♥️♥️ Have a great weekend.
@@MelindaMurphy you too 😄
Thanks for another great video.
I like that King Crimson album too. The pink Island label version would be very cool. 🔥
Really glad that you’re a Beach Boys fan! .. and Michael called that right .. the pairing with ‘So Tough - Carl and The Passions’ is a perfect recommendation.
I'm glad I bought it. It's wonderful! ♥️ Thank you and take care.
Great stuff m! That Roxy is FANTASTIC! ...and pretty much any pressing of it sounds wonderful. That record sends me floating on the clouds :)
I agree. It's a beautiful record to just kick back and listen to.♥️ What a great discovery. Thank you and take care.
Thanks Melinda
You've put me onto a couple of artists i've never heard of
I would love to buy the Michael Christiansen - Galactic Clarity on vinyl, but the postage to the UK is a much as the cost of the vinyl 😢
But the Beach House - Once twice melody I can get on Amazon
Another great video & look forward to your next 👌🏻❤
I'm so sorry that the postage is so high. I wish that wasn't the case. Yay, on the Beach House record. It's gorgeous. Take care.
Great video Melinda. As I hit my middle aged stride I find myself going back to the music eras and genres 'before my time', for new music. Specifically 70s and early 80s. I'll check out some of your recommendations.
Haha! Me too. It might be old but it's new to me.😀 Thank you and take care.
''Rock of the Westies is one of Eltons underated albums.I'm glad you showed the Rolling Stones "El Mocambo"album. Was not sure if it had been released yet.Anyway, another great video.Take Care,Melinda..
Thank you. The El Mocambo set has been out for a couple of months now. Take care.
For Elton, I'd get Tumbleweed Connection, Honky Chateau, Don't Shoot Me, I'm Only The Piano Player and Caribou! Blue Moves is great, but it's a grower, you might not like it at first but after a few listens, you'll love it.
Thank you for the wonderful Elton suggestions. ♥️ I appreciate it.
That's a tough one to find clean but if I ever do, I will pick it up. Thank you and take care.
Live at a radio station if I remember. It sounded amazing!
Jack Wezesa - yes, and I think the crowd was less than 200 people.
I agree. It would be cool to have the April Wine performance too. 🤗
Hey, howdy!
If I'm correct
mono was the way to go
when there were little compact record players
and the speakers were close together.
When technology separated the speakers
stereo was born (not to mention quad.)
Peace on earth.
I appreciate the suggestion. It's always great to discover new music. I need to give them a listen. Thank you and have a great day.
Bee Gees "Odessa"...a concept lp..I've got the original with the red fuzzy jacket..my fav
The originals are so cool. ♥️😀
Thank you for the Elton John recommendation. I better pick it up while his records are still easy to find. Take care.
Michael reached out to me and sent that record. I have been really enjoying it. Congrats on your amazing contest. It has taken the VC by storm. ♥️🤗
Haha! I know what you mean. This reissue of Avalon is excellent if you are wanting it back in your collection. Thank you and take care.
You managed to open the Stones "ElMocambo" without destroying the shrink wrap. Well done! I wasn't so lucky!
Haha! I usually mess the shrink wrap up. I got lucky this time. Take care.
Hello Melinda, I love Tigerlily I got mine when it first came out from AP I agree Fremer has a world of knowledge when it comes to music, especially Jazz when he recommends something I try and make sure I listen to it.
He definitely knows his stuff. I appreciate his opinion. Thank you and take care.
“Pet Sounds by The Bitch, Beach Boys…”
That was hilarious, Melinda! Thanks for the laugh. 🤣🤣🤣
Oops! I was hoping no one noticed my error. 😳 Pardon me. Lol
@@MelindaMurphy hee, hee, it was priceless. I love them, but it was still funny!
Love Pet Sounds. Such a great album.
I agree! Thank you.
Hi Melinda 🌞 - Nice to hear Pet Sounds as Brian wanted it heard .. in magnificent mono. Love Avalon by Roxy Music particularly The Main Thing. It's a standard for testing in new equipment. Aural bliss 😊
I'm so glad I gave Avalon a listen. It's an old album but it's new music to me. 😍 I love Pet Sounds. Take care.
David…🤘🏼
Take care.
I’m a recent subscriber and new to the vinyl hobby. I’ve really been enjoying your channel! Keep up the great work!
Thank you so much! I hope that this hobby brings you as much joy as it has brought me.♥️ Best wishes to you.
Another Awesome Video Thank You
Thank you so much!
Thank you so much for such an incredible gift. Beach House is wonderful. I really appreciate it. ♥️ Take care.
I have an original Avalon UK release. Sounds amazing. Probably one of my best sounding LP's.
It's a beautiful record. Sounds amazing. Thank you and take care.
Cheers!
I've never heard of that album or band. Thank you for such a unique suggestion. Take care.
pet sounds by the Beach Boys is a must have album has shaped my musical development❤️Great shirt Melinda👍 Greetings from Germany
It's a very important album.♥️ Thank you so much! 🤗
Another thing...Carl & the Passions came out on its own in the UK and the band toured Europe around the same time, playing a few festivals. They actually achieved their goal of being quite hip for a while this side of the pond.
Very cool! I saw The Beach Boys in concert in the late 80's. I wish I could have seen them in the 60's or early 70's. 🔥 Thank you and take care.
Since you recommended Song for my father in one of your older videos, I went out and got it and love the album. I am recommending Snarky Puppy We like it here. It is a live in studio performance. I recommend you watch the UA-cam videos of the performance before listening to the album.
Thank you for ehe suggestion. I'm so glad you enjoy the Horace Silver album. It's one of our favorites. Thank you and take care.
My back is feeling better. Thank you. I buy a lot of "recommended" albums too. It usually works out. Take care.
Hey Melinda,
Great video as always, I dig your content and views on what you choose for your collection. I have Tigerlily as well (copy #7556),fantastic pressing. I had that particular Elton John album once upon a time, but it was so rough I had to let it go. Keeping my eyes open for another copy. Thanks for your opinions, always appreciated and heeded.
Thank you so much! I hope you find a clean copy soon. Take care.
nice collection has always my friend and great video
Thank you! 😀
Hi Melinda,
Thank you for reminding me of Natalie Merchant, Tiger Lilly. I have the CD and have not listened to it in awhile. I will have to listen to it.
I went to the record store last weekend and picked up 3 records for $20:
1. Steely Dan, Can't Buy a Thrill
2. The Police, Ghost and the Machine
That's so cool. Two proven classics and one new record to listen to. Well done. 😍
@@marktait2371 HI Mark,
I went to our local record store and found these albums.
@@marktait2371 Thanks 😊.
I have to say that you're really good at reviewing and ranking albums, keep it up Melinda👍
By the way, i really like your hairstyle
Thank you so much! I really appreciate the kind words and encouragement. Have a great day.
@@MelindaMurphy You too.
By the way, i want to ask you a question just for curiosity, what is your feet size?
my Elton John collection includes - 17-11-70+ (a RSD release a few years ago [2017] at the first RSD I went to - I went late in the day as a typical newbie and missed out on a few things I wanted but saw this and grabbed it) which is a great live recording from November 17, 1970, Diamonds (a greatest hits compilation), the 3 Jewel Box compilations (which has a lot of B sides and rarities and I have it on LP and also CD), Rock Of The Westies, Jump Up!, Honky Château, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Caribou, Friends and I also have a 45 of Crocodile Rock, an 8-track of Elton John songs that someone had recorded over a different 8-track and the 3 greatest hits albums on CD.
You have a great Elton John collection. I have some catching up to do. 🤗 Thank you and take care.
It's a beautiful record and the packaging is stunning. Thank you for watching and take care.
Give Carl and the Passions-So Tough a spin also...
I definitely will. Thank you and take care.

That looks really good. 😍 Thank you for the suggestion.
I’m so glad to see you are ok. I was worried about the floods.
I'm safe. Thankfully, I live in a different art of the state. How heartbreaking it has been. ♥️
Elton John's Rock of the Westies was the first album I ever bought!! Love that record.
I'm loving it too. ♥️ Thank you and take care.
Approaching 20k subs eh? So happy for you. Keep these great vids coming. Always super happy to sit and learn. Much like spinning a black circle, I make it very intentional with your videos. 🇨🇦👍🏻
I appreciate your kind words. It will take a while to hit 20,000. I have a ways to go but I'm still shocked that I have over 1,000. I'm so grateful. Thank you and take care.

My tip is The Incredible String Band 5000 layers of the onion. If you like acid folk you’ll love this album.
Sounds intriguing. I would love acid folk. Thank you for the suggestion. Have a great day.

Am I hearing a background noise? The Basement Tapes, that's a must have! I don't think The Band really ever did a bad song.
I'm sorry for the noise. That was my air conditioning kicking in. I need to find a good microphone for my videos. I enjoy The Basement Tapes as well. Thank you and take care.
