Just gonna pipe up here to say those are my boots. I’m so excited to get them back, and so thankful for the great work Heath and Trent did on ‘em. I wore those suckers out playing with my band for many years and to have them restored really means alot to me, those boots hold many special memories for me. Cheers boys for bringing my best and favorite boots back to life!
Love the look of 'em. Full of character and memories. My oldest pair of Boulet books are like that. I have 2 pairs of Boulet, a pair of Canada West Bullrider, Resistol Ranch made by Luccasse and a pair of Irish Setter by Red Wing
In a band? Do you do a lot of dancing As well? almost all my boots get a hole in the exact same place and I've realized it's most likely from dancing and typically worse on the left boot from gliding across the floor
All my boots, like you, have special memories attached, and a great deal of money spent, so why didn't you perform regular maintenance? Seems very counter intuitive🤔, given the price of restoration vs regular maintenance.
It may seem counterintuitive but the best way to keep repair costs down is to keep them from wearing through the soles or heel lifts before getting them in for repairs.
Like they said the best way to keep costs down is with regular care and maintenance so small problems are taken care of before they become costlier ones
My -grandfather was a cobbler in a small shop he built in southeastern Kentucky. I can still remember the smell of leather in his shop.... Watching your videos brings back so many good memories.... Thanks!
What people seem to forget when they comment on these videos is that people who send in their shoes to be refurbished and repaired, these people are different than the average Joe/Jane who just wear out shoes, throw them away and buy another pair. They have a connection with their shoes and the memories attached I can tell you exactly what pair of shoes I was wearing for certain events and occasions, it is not about the money it is about the memories attached to the shoes.
Years ago, I stopped wearing cowboy boots, mainly because of my arches falling and other foot issues. I do have a pair of older Justin Ropers, black leather. They have a VERY short heel. I wear them when I have to climb out of my every day work wear and put on a suit. As long as I keep them conditioned and shined, they should outlast me! Work boots? I got 4 resoles out of a pair of Thorogood moc toe lace ups once. I wear these because they are soft and easy on my wrecked feet. Average resoles run about 3 times per pair. I absolutely love the work you guys do!! Awesome. You do "pretty" work, but it is also proper approach / methods. Artisans. Craftmanship combined with art in mind.
It's nice to see both ends of the spectrum, a budget friendly repair and a full on rebuild with upgrades. For some folks (who find it easy to buy off the rack) maybe they do better buying new/cheap footgear annually and filling up the landfill. Some of us need to spend a bit more up front and keep something a little nicer in service for a long period of time. I'm a big guy with big hooves, so I need hoof-covers that have good structure with quality materials, take care of them, and have them serviced. I also don't see a need to follow the latest fashion trends, I like the timeless stuff more. Nice save on those. Regular conditioning/inspection and shoe trees are your friends.
My standard thing with my leather soled cowboy boots is to have a rubber topper immediately put on from new by my cobbler. Cowboy boots generally have quite thin leather soles and I find that the way you walk in them seems to wear them out more quickly. It also adds grip and when the time comes all that is needed is a new topper and rubber heal top. Much much cheaper in the long run and makes the boots more useable in all terrains!
I recently got into leather dress shoes and these videos are excellent. I’m so happy to see a this type of crafting still existing and your work is beautifully done and explained. I’m sure that these videos will also inspire a next generation of future cobblers.

I own about 25 pairs of cowboy boots, mostly Lucchese and Cuadra. If you spend a lot of money on your boots, then a re-sole is the best option. Ain't buying a new pair of Lucchese's because I wore out the sole. Great video (as usual). Keep up the good work
Hey guys, I was wondering if you can do a video on shoe and boot stretching. It seems a lot of people suffer from bunions which are caused usually by a toe box or vamp that is too small. The thing is that this is a relatively easy fix that many people need to know about.
The topic of repair cost vs replacement is definitely something to consider before visiting a cobbler. You may have added 5 more years of use to the boots in the video, no need to discard them.

Being diabetic it is worth it for me to have a good pair of boots repaired rather than buying new ones. Even if it costs more. I can't afford to get sores on me feet breaking in shoes. I don't want to end up having toes cut off from wounds that don't heal properly.
I have non-diabetic neuropathy, and I feel like I'm still wearing my boots, several hours after I've taken them off. Fortunately, my Tecovas are extremely comfortable, and made with a proper layer of cork. For me, at least, they live up to their reputation for being the most comfortable cowboy boots made! I bought my first pair of Goodyear welted boots because of your channel. Literally got them last night. I get a work boot allowance yearly and instead of going with the standard shoes/boots I paid the difference and got a pair of Thorogood work boots, only problem is so far they look too nice to wear.😅

Hey guys, I fell in love with your channel a little under a year ago now. I love every video I choose to watch. Have watched a couple more than once. I've always wondered why do you take that little tool and cut the corner of the leather off? Is it to help the leather maintain its shape or what?
Thanks for watching! Im assume you’re referring to the tool towards the end that takes the sharp edge off of the leather soles? If so, that’s why. It takes the sharp edge off and provides a cleaner look.

Just out of curiosity, are there any good Italian brands of sole leather that would work well for resoling a pair of Italian-made shoes?

Here is what I think. Sometimes a pair of shoes might have got some emotional bond or some history behind them. In that case it perfectly makes sense to go above and beyond and restore them even if it costs more than a new pair. But most of the times I have seen the gentlemen had never bothered to polish the pair of shoes even once after they bought it 🙂. in that case, IMHO if the restoration cost comes more than a new pair of shoes, it's always better to go for a new one. and it's purely my thought process.

I bought a pair of slip-on ropers for my nephews wedding..over 10 years ago. They need sole replacement. Unfortunately nobody in my little city (Spokane), has a mild working sole, only the aggressive style. So...until either I can find a complete replacement or a repair shop that has a mild working sole...I'll continue to hand stitch the soles to the base. The boots are not expensive money wise..but they are worth a lot more in another way.
All through grammar school, high School, and college I wore cowboy boots. Now I’m 66 years old and can’t find a pair of boots that I can wear comfortably. Any suggestions?
Remember Lincoln High School Portland,Or. broken down old man sitting on wall with his trusting walker..no not a Tennessee Walker a people walker. ..well they hav completely torn down the high school..old man has no where to sit take a break...I occasionally where my cowboy boots..
Greatvideo. I have a new pair of nude or light Double H american made made boots. How do I keep them light colored? My old pair which I condition regularly, got really dark. I'd like to keep my good pair light, for casual wear.
From the time i was little, Dan Post boots were the "Dream" boot to get. Every ad in the Western Horseman was marked and dreamed about. Thankyou for giving those wonderful boots another life to live. Well done.
In my experience, sometimes focusing only on cost can be foolish. I have a pair of Ugg boots that, at the time, I had owned for twenty years. I had taken excellent care of the boot’s leather and sheepskin tops. To my disappointment, the boot’s soles were attached with glue and began to detach. I took them to a well known UA-cam cobbler who is local. He rebuilt the boots completely with new insoles, midsoles, a Goodyear welt, and Vibram Kletterlift outsoles. The boots will easily last me another twenty years. What’s more, they can easily and inexpensively have new outsole put on. All tolled, the cost of the work was exactly the cost of a new pair of Uggs. However, as with many products, the quality of materials used after twenty years is lower in order to save cost and profit from an established brand name. Though the cost of the work equaled a new pair boots, the quality of my twenty year old boots is superior. And I’m very happy with the results.
You guys are artists when it comes to restoring footwear, but you’re seriously going to advertise a synthetic belt with a locking “system” , instead of just a buckle ? Don’t get me wrong, they’re ok belts if you wear suit every day and aren’t moving around like a labourer , but the majority of people watching your channel probably wear a big ol’ buckle on a genuine leather belt with their boots and leather wallet.. I’ve had belts exactly like this one , and EVERY time I try to sinch it down, the teeth holding the “buckle” (imo that’s not a buckle lol) on to the strap either let go , or scratch right through the strap and it lets go .. I had my britches fall a few times cause I bent down and stretched the buckle off the strap, because even if you don’t completely sinch it down , when you go to bend over or anything , the buckle slide off the strap anyways .. they’re useless for a working man , only good for a guy in a suit that sits at a desk all day lol
What’s the average cost for a complete resole? I live in Florida, but I drive to Kentucky and Tennessee on a regular basis. I have a set of Lucchese 2000 elephant skin.
Do you “Fox” boots ? When I was cowboying in the Big Bend country of Texas , Spriggs Boot & Saddlery would put a layer of new leather over the toe up to about the middle of the boot. Boots wore out there on the tops as well due to all the cactus ,cat claw and wrestling cattle while branding. They sure did a great job and kept your expensive boots going a lot longer.
Hey is Potter and Sons permanently closed? Im based in Fort Campbell KY and am only an hour away. Id LOVE to see the shop but the google maps location is listed as permanently closed!
From my perspective as a former cobbler, if the boot/shoe is already broke in and in good shape, it is almost always more cost effective to rebuild the bottom end adding a superior material that will last longer than the original than it is to buy a new pair. Even if a new pair would cost about the same or even be cheaper to just replace. Vibram products rock as well as Austrian sole leather (at least for rebuilding loggers caulk boots).
I watched my father have cowboy boots resoled my whole upbringing. I have had boots resoled. First it amazes me when I meet people who do not know shoes and boots can be resoled or reheeled. Second, if you buy quality footwear it is cheaper to resole or reheel. My father also taught me how to shine boots, his, every Sunday night. Take care of stuff and stuff takes care of you.
More than forty years ago, I purchased a pair of Dan Post boots. I believe they were water buffalo skin? Anyway, these boots had really pointed toes (I called them “corner cockroach crushers”). If I ever find them, I’ll send them to y’all for a makeover. I really enjoy watching you guys, you’re true craftsmen!
Can you send me your info . I have a pair of Tony Lama's that need a complete resole. There is nobody in south Mississippi that does boots anymore. I can send pic's if you like. Please let me know if you can. They have never been redone. Complete original. Thanks
I have a pair of Dan Post boots that I've had for almost 14 years and they are wore clear through and the sole is pealing off. Even the rubber heal is wore down really bad. They hold a lot of sentiment value bc they were my grandfather's before he passed away. I don't have anyone local that I trust to repair them but they definitely need some TLC. I would love to send them to you guys to make a video on.
Guys, i love your work and channel, been following for a while, i also love cowboy boots, got a few pairs, always had some, and for a lower cost resole job, this one is a beautiful realistic job, and the customer should be more than satisfied, for a long time of wear! Again, great job guys!👌

The soles on my Tony Llamas were pretty worn out. For Christmas my daughter snuck them out to the cobbler and had them repaired. It was a great Christmas morning
My very first pair of boots were a set of Dan Posts .. they did the exact same thing on me.. wore a hole in the sole and all the innards fell out through the hole.. by the time I got them to a cobbler, he told me it wasn’t worth repairing them, even though I really wanted them repaired as they were my first pair of boots.. I still have the shafts, maybe one of these days I’ll actually spend the money and have them brought back to life 😞
Some peoples boots have a lot of sentimental value like my American flag boots it’s the first thing I bought when after I landed in the states after I deployed in 2009 it’s the same boots I was wearing when I met my ex wife the same boots I had on when my son was born the same boots I wore to my divorce my daughters first father daughter dance sometimes boots are comfort and I don’t want anything fixed on the top side of my boots but they do need to have a resole
is it just me or is it funny that the most replayed part of the video is the part that the sponsorship ends? Also I'm getting my very first pair of boots resoled because they're my everyday go-to but it's taken two months, is that normal?
I obviously don't know anything about this trade, but I was hoping the top side of the boot would be worked out in a way where they didn't still look as bad as they went in. Maybe I'm wrong.
I hard of anson belt! I was introduced to them by alpha m! he talk about them for years on his channle! and they usely have deas! 3 buckle to straps or 3 straps and 2 buckles!
Why don't cobblers clean the uppers while the outsoles are off the shoe and deconstructed? I would think it would make it easier to be a little more aggressive with the cleaning both inside and out. I never really see cobblers cleaning the inside of shoes either. Is there a reason for that? I'd think the insides being clean is more important than the exterior for hygiene reasons.
Can any pair of boots be rebuilt not have worn the bottoms through all the way? I had a pair of elephant skin boots that the uppers were great shape. I was told they could not be fixed.
Darn, how do people wear their boots or shoes out that much before getting things fixed. I can't imagine wearing my shoes down to where you can see the air through them.
I can't believe that these top shoe makers are using cardboard and cheap fillers in there boots they try so hard to get you to buy new boots and not have them repaired. It's really sad cobblers should build boots and show these shoe companies what a real shoe build should be

It may seem counterintuitive but the best way to keep repair costs down is to keep them from wearing through the soles or heel lifts before getting them in for repairs.

The boots are not expensive money wise..but they are worth a lot more in another way.
All through grammar school, high School, and college I wore cowboy boots. Now I’m 66 years old and can’t find a pair of boots that I can wear comfortably. Any suggestions?
another awesome job on boots but the refill on the glue was satisfying
Remember Lincoln High School Portland,Or. broken down old man sitting on wall with his trusting walker..no not a Tennessee Walker a people walker. ..well they hav completely torn down the high school..old man has no where to sit take a break...I occasionally where my cowboy boots..
Greatvideo. I have a new pair of nude or light Double H american made made boots. How do I keep them light colored? My old pair which I condition regularly, got really dark. I'd like to keep my good pair light, for casual wear.
What is the cost of this repair
Did you ever know Bo Riddle? We went to Church together many years ago.
Omg I love the name of your boots. That's hilarious. I hope they name the video that
Can you send me your info . I have a pair of Tony Lama's that need a complete resole. There is nobody in south Mississippi that does boots anymore. I can send pic's if you like. Please let me know if you can. They have never been redone. Complete original. Thanks
Awesome job ! If I wanted to have some boots restored by you’s ? How do I do that? Well that’s if you’s would accept the request , thanks in advance 🤠
Also, consider an auxiliary tank for your compressor. Much cheaper and sometimes more effective for adding time between noises lol
Hi Im Boris from Ukraine Im living now in Turkey I have one old very unique biker boat maybe one of a kind no one here in Turkey could repair it Im so sad it had so many miles with me I Plan to copy it But Im scared it had Thermo lining but I want shearling Im so so sad when I see my boots because I simply cannot find the similar boots even back in Europe when I was living there I could not find similar boot
My buddy passed away recently leaving a complete shoe repair shop behind including a couple of landis machines and a Sutton finisher plus tons of supplies. It’s located in western Canada near the us border. This stuff really needs a new home or a fair price. Reply to my comment for more details
The soles on my Tony Llamas were pretty worn out. For Christmas my daughter snuck them out to the cobbler and had them repaired. It was a great Christmas morning
Dan Post are great boots and they don’t cost much. $200 - $300 for a Basic pair of men’s cowboy boots.
Only cobbler left downtown survived covid been there a while.other cobbler covid wiped him out....
When you say drastically increase the cost. How much are we talking above the cost that’s already being spent?
Is there a maker's tag somewhere in the uppers that would tell you the maker, model no. etc.? No guessing what the boot looked like brand new!!
The taste, the feel, the look. If it is a good cowboy boot, worth what I just mentioned? It is worth the re-sole. Don’t be cheap.
Using a cobbler and resoling shoes or boots cut out the hardest part of new boots is the BREAK-IN!
I will never look at a pair of boots the same way ever again. Amazing work guys
Your Potterandsons logo is right where the closed caption is displayed. Makes it hard to read.
So, you're trying to keep the cost down...what was the approximate cost for the work you did?
my local cobbler did a very bad job on my favorite pair of docs. I wish you guys would fix them.
Всегда сарожник был показателем бедности. А теперь вонючие сапоги ремонтируют модные блогеры хипстеры 🤣🤣🤣
Can any pair of boots be rebuilt not have worn the bottoms through all the way? I had a pair of elephant skin boots that the uppers were great shape. I was told they could not be fixed.
So the nails NEVER stab the bottom of a foot? Have you ever worked on a pair of shoes/boots so rare and expensive that you were nervous to work on?
I have a pair of Dan post boots, but they’re really new still. Good to know that they’re a good brand!
I have the same wear in my boots. How much did the repair cost? Because im wary on the price burning a hole in more than my wallet.
I would like to ask how much this cost I would like to get my bead buddy's boots fix before they give up on me
Darn, how do people wear their boots or shoes out that much before getting things fixed. I can't imagine wearing my shoes down to where you can see the air through them.
Nothing personal but I was expecting a no talking just working video.
I'd be curious to know how many times you've hit a finger when using that hammer...
Do you notify the owners of you have to do more work than the original price was before doing the extra work needed...
I can't believe that these top shoe makers are using cardboard and cheap fillers in there boots they try so hard to get you to buy new boots and not have them repaired. It's really sad cobblers should build boots and show these shoe companies what a real shoe build should be
