In this video, we refurbish this pair of Cobbler Union dress boots. They came into our shop beat up and worn out. After adding new welts, cork, Dainite rubber soles/heels, and applying some much needed conditioner and polish, these boots are ready for another day. Time for another restoration!

These are my boots and I’m blown away at how incredible these look guys!
I’m a restaurant manager and was sick of going through cheap boots so I bought these as my daily drivers. Unfortunately I didn’t know much about high quality shoes and so I just wore them EVERYDAY at work. I wore these for 4 years straight 5+ days each week. I did have a new heel lift and a patch put on the toe but honestly the cobbler was not interested in putting too much work into them.
I’m so happy Trenton and Heath took these on as a project and I can’t believe how incredible the look.
Thank you so much guys I can’t wait to get these back on the streets this fall.

I’m the product of my raising and both my parents grew up in the time when shoes weren’t coming often, so you had to take care of what you had. That meant polishing shoes and wearing them in such a way as to make them last as long as possible. I’m forever reminding my own kids not to scuff their feet when they walk to avoid unnecessary wear on the soles. Hope your good work is nurtured for a while!

So around a year ago, one of your videos came up as a suggested video where you were restoring a pair of redwing prototypes.
Well fast forward a year and I’ve just picked up myself some red wing iron rangers yesterday. I know how to take care of them, what to use on them and how to break them in so they last for as long as possible, and it’s all down to you guys!

My Grandfather was a cobbler in Carraway, AR backing the 50s. I am 72 y.o. and rem er watching work when I was 6 or 7. I was foot racing with a cousin one day in his shop and slammed my head into his sewing machine (the one that stitched on soles) well the machine did not move and I had to have 7 stitches in my head. Still have the scar. I loved watching him work and watching your videos fills me with memories. Thank you.

Get a jar and put a slit in the lid and start dropping coins and random ones and fives into the jar ..... like every evening, put whatever change you have in your pocket into the jar ..... and those bills from time to time. You'd be surprised how quickly it accumulates ...... also, if you eat out a lot, smoke, buy a six pack from time to time .... instead of indulging in those, put what you would have spent on them into the jar. Again, it is surprising how quickly you will have what you need for those boots. Prioritize .... boots or a movie, boots or carryout (or restaurant eat in), boots or smokes, etc.

Interesting to see the shoe cream used on pebbled leather. I’ve hesitated to do that because it might “clog” the surface so to speak. Using it sparingly seems like it would avoid that.

I have 9 pairs of Cobbler Union shoes ( boots, loafers, and drivers). I honestly think they are the best value in menswear.
Sadly those boots were resoled by a cobbler that made them look so poor. They look like the finished product when new!
Great job restoring these very heavily worn boots!

I've always wondered, when you separate the old welts from the uppers, is conditioning required for the edge leather of the uppers, before you attach the new welt? Obviously it would need to be done before stitching the new welts, but I've never seen a video where that portion of the leather is taken care of. To me it seems like that would be an important step given the stress that leather is getting from the stitches, and because naturally you can't reach those areas when doing regular conditioning on the uppers. Any thoughts?

Haha…so the long story is, the cork originally comes in plastic bags, and there are about 10 tubes (plastic bags) of cork in a 5 gallon bucket. That’s the way it comes when you order it in bulk. At some point, we decided to put a tube of cork into the metal tin, but we realized that it was drying the cork out too quickly by doing that. We decided to continue keeping them in the plastic bags and then stored in the 5 gallon bucket.
