Compare this with something built only 300 years ago and chances are the ceilings will be a GREAT deal higher. - The architectural style - a classical building (e.g. an 18th century townhouse), will favour heigh ceilings, tall windows, lots of light etc, whereas a medieval building (unless of high status) will tend to be the exact opposite. - Wealth - a building will be designed depending on the owners wealth; a poor man will want something that is easy to maintain (like you mention), and a rich man will want something that shows off wealth (i.e. grander, bigger, taller). I think the plastic wheely bin is proof its been occupied as late as at least the 80's. Plastic bins were not used for household refuse waste until the 80's and that bin looks fairly new considering its surrounding.

It is a very valuable and collectible book that many people would love to get their hands on. Cool that it is still sitting on the shelf like that. I actually have that book, and it is an extremely fascinating read. Ignatius Donnelly was a very interesting character from the 19th century, who was from Nininger Township, Minnesota, USA. Very cool find, guys!
Wow, I love the bookcase and those valve radios are awesome. I’m wanting a valve radio and they are really expensive. Can you imagine what they heard from them, the declaration of war, stories, etc. It was before the tv so everyone used to sit around it and listen. The black radio on the table is from the mid 1930s and the one one of you picked up without the back showing its valves is from the 1940s. Well done recognising the butter churner. A really weird mix of very old and quite new stuff. Probably inhabited by some eccentric until a few years ago I recon. But where did he sleep? Was it just his den in later years? Why did so many clocks say 9.20? The construction of the house makes it clear which eastern county you're in! Very like mine - built around 1800 +/- 50 years I'd guess by the brick and flint walls and the pan roof tiles.

I wish your camera man could hold the camera a bit more steady and actually show more of what's there instead of just wobbling it around aimlessly

looking at the radios.. must have been an enthusiast. In radio history, 1966 was a significant year that was rapidly doing away with AM radio in favor of FM.
Probably a farm-workers cottage, probably an old feller who died in the 1970s. A lot of these rural cottages/bungalows had planning constraints that meant they could only be used to house agricultural workers for the farm whose land they were on - they couldn't be done-up and sold-on without significant beurocratic embuggerance - there are dozens around here like that laying empty (albeit not as old as this one). Cottage is likely flint-faced clay-lump construction, likely rendered walls that need wall-paper to be applied over lining paper - when these houses aren't looked after, the walls get damp quickly and the paper more-or-less falls off the walls. The dilapidation is not that much worse than the house I bought of similar era/style - neglected for 20 years, but only unoccupied for 2. If you get serious roof leaks in these types of houses, you end up having entire walls washed out and falling down.

Lots of mold. Trouble with wood and other natural fibers, it absorbs odor, stinks forever. Have a wood furniture piece from 1800's. Cleaned mercilessly and disinfected with a variety of things. Sour smell can't get rid of, so getting rid of it. Was left in a moldy environment for a long time before I picked it up at a shop.

I bought a fab larder cupboard that I wanted to use in my kitchen, but it had been used in a shed or garage and reeked of oil and chemicals. I like the old boy's marble top wash stand.
