Hope you enjoyed it! Trying out some new stuff with this video, maybe it worked or maybe not. Anyway, let me know if you have a game, tv, or movie you'd like to run as a ttrpg and maybe I'll take a look at its clones next!
Honestly, if I was to run a Zelda game, I'd go with Fellowship. A very simple PbtA game, lets you play a lot of adventure campaigns pretty nicely, and PCs can literally become a chosen hero, find the bane of the BBEG, defeat evil with the power of friendship and so on. What I especially dig about that game is that the big bad enemy you are going against is codified and the GM gets to play them, character sheet and all. At the same time, their defeat is a done deal, the heroes will win, it's only a matter of how and when, not if. It might not have puzzle mechanics beyond "you have a set piece that is a water temple, tell us how you overcome its problems", or exploration, but it has a universal conflict resolution system and you can be doing some wacky hijinks like a pie eating contest, wacky racers, or "fighting" against a "threat" that is "you got a very troubling letter from home that just won't leave your thoughts". The same creator was working on a game that was more about explorationa nd dungeon delving called Skull Diggers, but that hits different vibes than what Zelda would be about.
Heard of Fellowship, but haven't gotten the chance to delve into it yet. I actually think I bought a PDF of it at one point...keep meaning to look into it Honestly, almost any fantasy game *could* be used for a Zelda game. But figured, might as well look at the ones supposedly designed with it in mind!
As far as RPGs inspired by old NES franchises, I know of Savage Worlds' Heroes of Terra, which seems like the world of Super Mario Bros with a very Squeenix-esque aesthetic. (And on the topic of squeenix, obviously there's Fabula Ultima for old school Final Fantasy)
For sure - Fabula Ultima has been in my cart for a while...haven't heard of Heroes of Terra before though, and I do enjoy Savage Worlds occasionally! Thanks for the recommendation!
My game guilty pleasures on the NES were Bionic Commando, The Adventures of Bayou Billy, and Blaster Master. I think a lot of this can be home-brewed with the EZD6 system. I myself am slowly working on a EZD6 sourcebook to make Japanese Tokusatsu Heroes such as Kamen Rider, Metal Heroes, Ultraman, etc
Guilty pleasure games are often the best! I'll admit I never played yours...but I did have that old Blaster Master worlds of power choose your own adventure book! EZD6 is such a great system! Very easy to hack
Its be nice to see more TTRPGs for racing games especially as a fan of F-Zero! But sinxe there are so few maybe the best we can do is use a system agnostic game 😅?

I really liked this video. I especially appreciated when you talked about how much the Zelda franchise meant to you.

This is super fun! I might run some as one-shots, but right now I'm three years deep into DMing a Hyrule-set 5e game with some friend's.

There's a lot of "Souls" inspired TTRPGs out there.

Interesting... Haven't looked at a dedicated racing game before. Could have some potential there...
Avatar Legends RPG just released “Republic City” and it has rules for underground racing
Love this! Thank you! 🤘🏻🌿🔥💧
Glad you like it!
ICRPG sounds like a good system to hack a Zelda style game
