Using lots of conditioner, squish to condish, and using praying hands on soaking wet hair to put in curl cream has given me my nicest waves\curls yet! I think I might be needing a bit of a protein treatment as well though

The fact that you broke down the difference between protein and moisture overload is a huge game changer! I’ve tried looking that up in the past, but I never could figure out the difference with my hair, but now thanks to you, I do! Keep on rockin the curls girl! It’s doing wonders for you!!

Yay, glad you were able to figure out how to improve your hair's health! My wavy hair game changer is using a mousse. my hair is fine, gets weighed down easily, and needs a product with some hold to maintain my waves. I've been using Not Your Mother's mousse and I've been really enjoying it! I apply it after plopping for around 10-30 minutes

  • @howtopasstime

The kinky curly curling custard is my holy grail, imo it’s great for wavy hair and it prioritizes clumping and smoothness and no frizz over hold, I like it like that though. A big game changer also was just like plopping, but kinda “guiding” the plop in the direction of your curl if that makes sense, so your curls don’t kinda fold over each other

Something that saved my hair was using different shampoos/conditioner each time I wash, I have one for hydration, one for nutrition (oil ingredients) and other with protein. That way my hair was balanced. Plus I fell if I use the same shampoo/ conditioner my hair get overload to that ingredients and is not effective anymore

I’ve got brown long naturally wavy hair, to the small of my back. I’ve always hated my hair, but as a mom, a wife, and all the other 🧢 that I wear I was tired of the upkeep to maintain the look I wanted. Since I was a teenager I bleached my hair blond or put highlights in my natural brown hair, plus blow dried my hair with a stiff bristled brush, and straightened my hair with a flat iron 😩. I done tons of damage FOR YEARS. Recently I am just tired of maintain the maintenances with all of that work just to keep my blond straight hair. My point is just accept ur natural hair it’s beautiful 😍.
Thanks to this video I realize that I need to find a different shampoo and conditioner and I also have MOISTURE OVER LOAD IN MY HAIR!!! So that’s why my hair looks terrible and I’ve just been throwing it up in a messy bun. So thank you so so much for this information I’m going to go get a protein treatment this evening and put it in my hair tonight 🤞it works.

My biggest game changer was stopping silicones completely. My hair was the opposite to yours, in protein overload so it was just snapping off. Silicones were making it straight, heavy and dry. So, quitting silicones, adding moisture to my hair, quitting towel drying it and adding leave in and gel really helped out my hair very much.

    I recently got a
hair dryer with a diffuser and it was a gamechanger for me. Before the hair dryer I would always let it airdry and that would just take ages. I still don't fully diffuse it so it doesn't get frizzy and loose shine. This way I get a lot more volume than when I air dry.
But keeping the balance between protein and hydration is sooooo hard.

Shea moisture was one of the first brands I tried when I started the wavy/ curly journey and it did pretty good on my hair gave me good definition then when I started going blonde last January I switched to more high end products like MoroccanOil and by mid summer my hair had no defined wave pattern and I was taking care of it as well 😔 around November I did the reverse balayage toned the blonde down and started using Shea moisture products again and I can see my hair slowly getting it’s wavy/ curly pattern back it’s like you said being blonde is nice but it damages so much! Try the Shea moisture Jamaican black castor oil strength and restore hair mask it has protein in it

    Hey Taylor,
You should boil flax seeds for 15 min and use it's water on your hair after you get out of the bath OMG it's revolutionary, the result is amazing and it's organic and natural and it has a lot of benefits, I promise it's super great, I got my natural curls back after they went bad bc of constant hair bleaching. Boiled flax seeds can define the curls and maintain their structure.

Short answer is simple drugstore products that contain zero proteins and other wacky ingredients, all a hair product needs to do is clean, literally. If you want good hair than focus on overall body health, shield your hair from excessive heat and mechanical stress, allow your scalp to build up sebum which is great to distribute in the hair as nature intended us to, that's literally it, just sulfate clean and let it air dry. Take my word of experience on this, the people i know that have great or amazing hair all use cheap and simple drugstore products, there is no need for anything else, saloon products are a major scam and contains ingredients that will destroy our hair in the long run, sometimes to the point where it has to be cut off.

i started out with balayage and also got addicted to bleach and getting blonder and blonder so yes, i became platinum but fried off all my hair since I'm naturally so dark, my hair is almost black!!! 0/10 recommend the blonde is NOT worth it ladies bc ur hair will not look good/healthy, and i was suuuuupeer insecure bout it, olaplaex, hair masks, washing your hair once or twice a week (u can train ur hair to not get super greasy after a while of not washing it too much) and finishing with cold water to seal the hair cuticles !!!

So I have 2C, fine, low density, high porosity hair. I stopped using heavy ass products and started using less amounts in my hair to not weigh down the curls! Right now I’m using a mix of the As I Am Coconut Cowash and the Giovanni Tea Tree Triple Treat shampoo/conditioner depending on if I’m clarifying or just rewashing my hair 💕 I wash every 4 days, and I clarify only once a week! I also stopped bleaching my hair. My natural black hair is super cute and it looks much more shiny than when it was blonde! For my styling products I use the Curls Blueberry Bliss leave in, AC Re:Coil cream, and the Innersense I Create Lift Foam/Ouidad Climate Control Gel 💕
If you have fine, low density hair, STOP PUTTING LAYERS IN YOUR HAIR!!!! Your hair turns see through and weird, you have random “bald spots” from your hair not being weighed down enough to cover your scalp, and it looks SO AWFUL 😭 if your hair is long you can get away with long layers but PLEASE don’t cut any layers above your ear. It will save you the time and agony of trying to grow them back out because the back of your head look ridiculous 💀💀💀

Shea Moisture’s Manuka Honey & Yogurt protein repair line. I used their shampoo, conditioner, and mask this morning after it was bleached and cut waaaay too short (IMO - I hate myself with short hair). It basically had stretched out. I kept putting moisture in it never understanding the whole protein thing. Very clearly my hair needed protein because it’s so light and bouncy and super curly today. Less frizz. Now I feel more confident to live through the short hair while it grows back out. At least I take biotin so it won’t take too long to grow.

Biggest hair changer for me was no longer using heat to style my hair. I always struggled with my hair because I thought it was wavy with a lot of frizz. I haven’t used heat in 3 years and it turns out my natural hair is actually straight and looks so much healthier now. No more split ends and breakage

Glad it worked out for you! How did you manage with the frizz? I have wavy with a lot of frizz. I have to use my straightener to control the frizz

Your best bet is try to see if your hair needs moisture or protein. If you can't tell, try to up the moisture in your routine, and see if you have moisture overload.
      If not congrats!
If moisture overload a protein mask should balance your hair out 👍🏼

OMG i tried this out for a bit and my very wavy hair came back! Back when I was only a toddler my hair grew fast but it was curly like VERY curly but not coily. but for a bit i wondered if I could ever regain it back... but now I have and I feel so happy in myself!

I just went through this my hair wouldn’t curl up 😢 I thought it was hella more damaged all the sudden 😶😑 but protein fasho fixed the situation, btw your hair is gorgeous!

Like you, I figured out my hair needed protein. So, I use the curl smith protein line. I use one styler with protein and one with moisture in it. I did just buy the morrocanoil cream and mousse. We’ll see how they go. Shampoo and conditioner I use the Rizo’s Curls for my 2b/2c hair. I also do a deep conditioning treatment once every other week with my fine wavy hair and it seems to be happy.

using hask products really saved my hair. i have extremely over processed hair because i bleached it a million times. the argan oil repairing hask shampoo and conditioner, plus the coconut oil hask hair mask really revived my hair

Putting my styling products on wet hair instead of towel dried hair. I did. It believe it would make a difference, but it’s definitely helped with definition

you can also use coconut oil right before you wash your hair, the drier your hair type is, leave it in for longer. coconut oil is a good source of protein

Homemade flaxseed gel was the ultimate game changer for me, no more frizzy poofy hair at the end of the day
And also started using protein shampoo and conditioner rather than moisture...

I use Not Your Mother's Curl Talk 3-1 conditioner and it has been a godsend. It has light protein in it and can be used as a leave in, a rinse out, and a deep conditioner I think. I went out to an indoor water park a month ago and it was the only hair product I brought with me. My hair was still hydrated and strong by the time I got back home.

The thing that helps my hair the most is no products. I usually just let it hair dry with alittle coconut oil. I personally dont like any products because they leave a texture in my hair. Love your hair though!!

I feel this. I've been strict water only for years. I don't have a shower filter though, so after a shower I clarify with distilled water. And then I shake it dry to activate my waves. And scrunch when it's about 90% dry. Simple, quick, and I love my hair.

I’m a Moroccan, so I have curly hair and we use this shower scarf thing. That keeps our hair contained so our hair doesn’t get frizz and no curly bumps on our head, only the bottom. Kinda looks like this but it’s cotton, and is usually wrapped the same, flandb.com/products/100-pure-silk-charmuese-head-scarf-bandana. We also use henna, to naturally dye our hair and to keep it healthy. Btw it’s not henna tattoo. I also used to use Moroccan oil, but it doesn’t work on my hair anymore but still works on my moms hair, so I guess it just depends on the person.
