    I must say, the Rapide had aged beautifully, just like all Aston Martins from that period of time. Most classy designs imo

      Absolutely. Their latest stuff has gone all muscle and no elegance for me unfortunately

      If I may though, the DB11 is still one of the most elegant modern cars money can buy. For me, in terms of styling, the DB11, Ferrari Roma and Jaguar F-Type are by far the most elegant and classically good looking cars you can buy.
      But naturally, the drives and sounds these cars make are definitely different these days, and sadly that does affect their elegance.
      I do believe that an argument can be made that the last truly elegant era of cars was the 1990s. The only cars beyond the 90s that I feel are elegant (beyond the ones I mentioned above) are:
      * XK
      * DB9
      * Ferrari 612
      * Alfa Romeo Disco Volente
      Naturally not all of these cars are the best looking, but to arrive somewhere in, there are few modern cars that are going to make a better impression.
      And naturally anything from the 90s and older will make an excellent impression, provided it’s in good condition. A couple scratches in the paint are encouraged, but all the wheel rims have to match, and of course, ripped seats are definitely a no go. But moderate wear and tear just adds a certain “lived in” look that is super cool.

    Captain Slow about the Quattroporte: "Manual? Semiautomatic? Ah! These are the weapons!".

    Fabulous commentary. The idea of driving and pre-recording or post-recording the commentary cuts out the waffle, so well done. Fully agree with your analysis of the three cars. I haven't driven the Quad but have a Grand Tourismo and the Aston and Porsche. My choice would be the Aston but then I am 75...

    I've driven the Quatreporte and loved it! I do want to drive a Panamera to compare the two.

    As a current Panamera Turbo owner it's pretty difficult looking for a replacement. Audi RS7 and BMW M850 gran coupe seem pretty normal and tbh nothing special, I'm leaning heavily towards a Rapide but I'm scared I'd miss the Porsche because it's absolutely fantastic plus I think it's beautiful.

      You'll definitely miss the more versatile space in the Panamera for sure. Everything inside the Aston feels like fitted luggage, from passengers to the actual boot. The cost of a more traditional 4 door supercar I suppose. I think of the Rapide as being like a TVR or Panoz in the sports car world: There's no real advantage to buying one aside from it being a car you simply must own because you like it.

    Owning then 300hp diesel facelifted model mysef i got to say is the best car i ever had.
    I owned it from 20k miles now on 98k miles and all i had to do is normal service.
    I tried before the Panamera without air suspension- that for me felt like a normal car. Very loose, like a boat. The beauty of air suspension is that you get the same boat in comfort mode, but when in sports + mode is the only car i felt it actually changes the handling significantly.
    Luggage space is huge once you fold down rear sears. Car nickname i use is the PoshVan 😂
    Another thing that i liked - if you do have issues (had a level sensor issue and brake pad sensor) you can swap in parts and no need for ecu reset etc, and won’t disable half of your car like my audi used to do for any small issue detected.

    An M6 Grand Coupe would also be a car to look at in this class. Best part of the Porsche is that you can't see it's looks when you drive it... :) Love that Rapid. :)

    I had a quattroporte and 3200GT, had a Cayenne Turbo and had a DB9. The looks of the Panamera made I never bought it. Now I have a Cayenne Diesel S, have a Rapide S and have a Continental GT. Love all of these cars, but my favourite is by far the Rapide S. It's the most beautiful 4 door car ever produced but above all it's such a pleasure driving as long as you don't use the infotainment :-). Sound from the car and music system is top. Maintenance cost of 10 year Aston Martin ownership was very acceptable, same like the Porsches. To keep a Maserati in good condition is expensive.

    When the first Porsche Panamera came out , I liked it and drove it , however something was missing , in all the models . When the Maserati Quattroporte came out , it was love at first sight but I did not like its gearbox , so I liked it on looks and sound , when they dropped in the ZF gearbox , I liked it alot , drove it and that was a car I almost bought new , however , I did not , partly because a freind of mine dragged me upto the Aston dealership for me to look at a Rapide S , the first one in South Africa , White Frosf in colour with a red interior , it was being delivered at the time and I did not like it firsf off . A few days later I toddled off to the Maserati dealership to buy my new car and was greeted by the manager (a friend of mine) who informed me the car had broken down on the showroom floor , a short walk into the workshop I saw it in pieces and no deal . Now however the Rapide has become a choice for a purchase as I am dumping my Range Rover and I have found a few nice very low mileage models .

    Thank you for this. I owned a 2010 Rapide for 2 years and covered 20,000 miles. I don’t agree with the car feeling like a Bentley. I owned a 2010 supersports for 2 years before the Aston and the Aston was a much better balanced car with less pitch and dive on braking. Also the ZF gearbox on the Rapide didn’t second guess the driver like the Supersports did. Great comparison though and well narrated.

    Panamera: Good in most aspects but lacks charisma, kinda like a computer on wheels, modern for its time, many parts come from VW which means its easy to find replacements and cheap if you do the job yourself. Maserati: Passional, triggers emotions, looks way older than the other two (interior, exterior), pain in the ass to fix (difficult to source parts and weird engineering that makes it hard to fix) but incredible engine sound. Aston Martin: mix of both worlds but beautiful and has aged really well, V8 rumble (muscle car-ish), impractical, interior quality above the other two (Porsche comes second), very bad on fuel but who cares, more reliable than people think, many replacement parts come from Volvo/Ford. Porsche is cheaper to insure.
