- CHILLING footage shows the moment a man was left with brain damage after speeding at 160mph and suffering a horrifying crash.
The rider suffers catastrophic injuries after slamming into the back of a stationary truck on a South Australian highway, in graphic dashcam video.
In the clip, he rapidly accelerates and slaloms in and out of traffic before speeding into a devastating collison.
The crash left him in a coma for two months and he now needs full-time care and is unable to speak properly.
His wife has made the heartbreaking decision to allow South Australia Police to share the vision publicly on Tuesday to highlight the dangers of driving at extreme speed.
"His decision to ride at extreme speed did not just impact him.
"It impacted the lives of those strangers who kept him alive on the road and forever changed the lives of his family," the video's caption reads.
"Someone has to pick up the pieces."
Police say he only survived because of the quick actions of witnesses, who resuscitated him on instructions from calling the ambulance.
The release of the video is timed to coincide with new laws introduced in Australian state parliament on Tuesday enforcing tougher penalties for speeding drivers.
The laws will mean the maximum penalty for driving at extreme speed is increased to five years in prison.

@@Kraziken0 Been riding for 4 years, I’m 22. The only close calls I’ve had were from other drivers. The best advice I can give is to ALWAYS be alert of your surroundings. I don't even know what point you're trying to make. Newer models of bikes have low-beam headlights that are always on if the bike is on, to make them more visible to other drivers at any time of day. It's a no-brainer safety feature because there are no negative effects, only positives.
So I don't even know what your comment is trying to say...

I used to teach motorcycle safety and one of the things I used to tell students was, "There are a lot of old riders, and there are a lot of bold riders....but there aren't many old bold riders".
I currently have a couple of 5jj R1's and I can feel everything, the feedback the bike gives is almost life saving. I've ridden some of these newer machines and they feel numb, they don't teach you how to ride properly. I started out with a 1989 FZR exup. These new bikes are way too forgiving and don't give you any wobble's for the wrong inputs and is really difficult to find the limits of the bike. So you learn nothing and end up finding out your mistakes at too higher speed. No room for error.

That truck didn’t come out of no where, he should’ve seen it and been able to react but he either wasn’t paying attention or just panicked because he didn’t know what to do. He didn’t look very skilled or confident in any of these clips. If you’re going to go that fast, you have to confident in your abilities, know your limits, and pay full attention to what’s ahead of you, look for brake lights and turn signals, and try to predict what other people are going to do. Most people drive fairly predictably so it’s not that hard but if someone looks erratic or you’re not sure what they’re doing, just slow down before you pass them. Lots of people do stuff like this all the time and don’t crash. There’s always a risk but some people are willing to take it, and the risk is a lot smaller if you do it right.
Too many people seem to think they're invincible or got nothing to lose while they're driving/riding.
He was literally asking for it the way he rode. At least he wasn’t driving a car, then someone else might have gotten hurt.
If a motorcycle crashed into a car in an extreme speed, there's still moderately high possibility to harm and/or kill someone in a car. Because it still can wreck the chassis of the car, especially around the door next to driver/passenger.
@@ardhiutama8426 Yes I agree but if was car, the chance for surviving is none!
Believe it or not but he was careful. There’s people far far more reckless than him. It was a bit of bad luck to literally have a stationary truck on the highway...
@Justin Folse I think the top speed recorded on the video was 160 mph or over 250 kmh. He hit the truck at 80 mph or 140 kmh, usually a fatal outcome for car accidents, let alone on a motorcycle.
@@aspectu3915 I've been thinking about that. Trucks lights weren't all that bright either and I didn't see cones. Then again, this is Australia

I came to see him earn his Darwin Award. Wasn’t disappointed. 10/10 will come back again in 6 months.
I'm quite sure he was eager to edit and upload this video for multiple likes. It's too bad, sad, but he paid the ultimate price and consequences for his actions.
Thirty years ago my brother did the same thing, only he collected a telegraph pole four meters up after flying through the air for about twenty meters. He died twice in the ambulance but was revived both times. He then spent the next seven months in coma. Out mother sat beside his bed for most of that time, just talking to him. The doctors told her there was very little chance of him ever waking up, but eventually he did. She never gave up hope. The doctors said he would never walk again, again she didn't give up and some two years later he took his first assisted steps.
Today, thirty years later, he still requires almost constant care and assistance. Mum past away a few years ago so he is now in the care of the state. I can't begin to tell you the impact his foolish, reckless choices have had on our family, he undoubtedly shortened our mother's life as well with all of the stress he put her through.
My heart goes out to this guy's poor family, they are the ones who will be paying the price for many years to come, just so he could play the hero. Don't do it, if you care about the people who love you, don't do it.

If you want to go insanely fast, go to a race track. The cost of that is far cheaper than the fines you'll have to pay if you're caught, plus a racetrack is designed for maximum speed and is far safer than the street.
As a motorcyclists myself, I will never understand why you wouldnt just go to the track. This is literally what they're meant for.
What track? People act like those are abundant and everywhere.
And the track is much more fun. I learned more on a single track day than a month of street riding.
Track is great. It's costly, and I have to lose a few day's pay because the nearest track is so far away, and if I want to not fall asleep on the drive home and be able to get the most out of track day, I should pay for two nights in a hotel. But that's just like everything else. Flying, boating, 5 star hotels. All you need to do it right is lots of money.
Just FYI, riding like that on a motorway is also costly - cost to life not withstanding. High speeds and constant lowering and increasing g of RPM means more fuel used _ so higher fuel fosts
@@jialee140 I will never do this but why not speed down a lone open highway?

I can't imagine living my life peacefully without disturbing anyone and suddenly get hit by some idiot driving/riding way over speed limit.
The unfortunate part is some people don't even have to imagine what it's like.
I concur
It's very sad. I also ride a bike. The adrenaline rush isn't worth the tragic consequences. To all of you, ride safe.
I can't believe I survived this kind of riding
As a longtime rider for more than 55 years this was tough to watch. It continually baffles me why riders race on the street instead of the track.
I'm afraid that if the nation instituted some type of national testing, a large percentage of the citizens would be found at least slightly developmentally disabled.
The track costs a lot money, however, the risks are low; the street costs nothing, but the risks are high. Some are too inexperienced, shortsighted or immature to see the high risk of racing on the street.
