WiiM Mini is also my favourite, to the point I returned even the Arylic S50+. My main disappointment with the latter was the fact that USB port is basically useless not only because of the 1024 file limitation (my library is 100,000+) but because even though the S50+ also comes with a Toslink (optical S/PDIF) output... It still outputs ONLY 16/44.1!!! That was the nail that closed its coffin for me. On the other hand, WiiM sounds beautifully when playing back 24/192 on an external DAC, both from streaming sources as well as UPnP/DLNA servers.
And here I thought the Ayrlic would be an upgrade. I will just keep my WiiM mini, thank you. And, it does have a remote. It's my phone. Very nicely done!
I setup The WiiM Mini with a S.M.S.L SU-1 MQA DAC. $169 for both combined at the time I purchased them. If you are not an Audiophile the WiiM Mini is fine by itself since it has an OK DAC. It is so easy to use, setup and hides away
have had both for several years, the arylic being owned the longest. The wiim maintains a better connection to my network over time..less dropping out of the network, the wiim is updated regularly firmware wise with new features and bug fixes, the wiim's ability to connect to an external dazc cannot be over emphasized and by the way they both come from Linkplay.
Good review, but sorta incomplete. You have take into consideration the streaming app, updates, GUI and ease of use as one key criteria and multi room support as another even if they are evenly matched
Hopefully this answers your question...the apps for each streamer are named differently in the app store, but when I downloaded both, they were actually the exact same interface, just with a different name, lol. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching!
I really enjoyed this review and your style of delivery! Very nice job. The WiiM, is the superior device, with higher res, bit-perfect output via the optical out, ability to serve as a transport to an external DAC (which honestly is a must), the app is fantastic, and you did not discuss the 11-band eq built into the app. It’s awesome!!!! The pro model is even better if you need the features and full-size ins/outs. After getting my WiiM pro, my Bluesound Node 2i is for sale!!!! Haha!!! Thank you!!!!
Yesterday (March 25th) the Wiim went from 99 bucks to a lightning sale price of 79 bucks and today it's 89 bucks. You are correct, watch for sales. I'm getting the Wiim based on the optical output. Using your affiliate link gives me a 5 dollar coupon, just like the One Little Bear VU3 My wife just bought for me. Burritos are awesome, something both the left and the right can agree on.
An update! The Arylic S10 has been updated to the S10+. The + includes an optical Toslink out which facilitates connection to an external DAC. There are also some external control buttons on the top of the unit for playback and input selection. In addition, the front of the unit now has an LED display for playback and other functions. The Arylic S10+ is available at the old price of $79. While the older version is still available while supplies last for the ridiculous price of $55! Both come with the remote control.
Good review sir, subbed... I bought the WiiM Mini on a whim after purchasing a vintage, circa 1969, Sansui 2000 stereo receiver. I have a newly purchased pair of, circa 2017, Zu Omen Dirty Weekend speakers. Folks that own these particular speakers swear about the sound of this Sansui pairing. They were correct, the sound is magical if you dig a tube sound with all of the detail and hard hitting bass. I have two SVS SB-3000 subs in the house, I have turned them off, the Zu's go there. The WiiM Mini, $74 on Amazon Prime Day... I honestly expected to be disappointed with the WiiM DAC when hooked up to my Sansui. I am using the WiiM Mini as a Preamp/DAC/Streamer using the 3.5mm output to RCA cable that came with the WiiM. I did utilize the LHY 5v linear power supply with the WiiM, and I am sure that helped matters. I went with the WiiM as I was impressed with the software, or app, along with the ease of use. And it was cheap! I needed something that others in the house could use when I was not here. I have a more complicated system, PS Audio, Parasound and Mercury v2 streamer running RoPieeeXL. Sounds good... But difficult for others to use. One of the reasons I bought the Sansui, one button and a couple of knobs, hard to screw up, On/Off button, Bass, Treble and Volume, along with the radio tuner knob to dial in those radio stations. ;-) The sound, streaming Tidal via the WiiM app, sounded very very good, better than my other setup, thank the Sansui. Some of that tube sound of the Sansui disappeared, but was still there, not totally gone, I lost around 30% or so. The Bass was still solid, no need for those subs. The midrange, again, very very good, the voicing too, listening to Melody Margot was impressive, as she has a very distinct voice and tone, it was all there. The same with male vocalists, just spot on. The horns, piano, very good, with solid roll off and little decay, no sibilance to my ear. I have some nice gear here in the house, been through more than a few pieces trying to find "that sound". Tens of thousands of dollars later... Here I am with a $74 WiiM Mini, a used pair of Zu speakers I picked up for a grand and a very nice vintage $200 Sansui stereo, $1300 all in... I could easily live with this system, as I have seriously thought of parting with my more expensive gear and simply run with this combo. Is that sick or what? Yes, it sounds that good. The WiiM app is what really takes all of this to the next level, the fact that it has a built in EQ, and you never mentioned it! The EQ took my system to the next level, you can really dial in the sound, and this is where I was blown away. I still cannot believe I am getting this sound out of this stupid little puck. I do not know what they did over at WiiM, but I hope they continue to have great success, I am now officially a fanboy. And thanks again for the review.
Thank you for watching and sharing! I had a Sansui 2000 a few years back and loved the sound. Haven’t heard the dirty weekends yet but did get my ears on their new smaller “bookshelf” this weekend at a friends house and I hope to get something Zu for myself at some point!
@@ForeverAnalog The Zu's, I cannot get over these Dirty Weekends, if you can ever get a pair, do it, worth every penny. I bought mine used, they are out there. Then go find yourself another Sansui, you already have the WiiM. ;-)
More and more people are declining the usb feature, but I strongly disagree as I continually use it to listen to my albums. It's a crucial feature while purchasing a piece of gear :)
I like your delivery... a refreshing departure from the snobbish audiophile sect, yet informative and down to earth. Sometimes I do feel like a deep technical dive, and sometimes I can take a more humorous, straight-to-the-point approach. Thanks. I'm going for the Wiim Pro... (hardwire LAN and Chromecast).
I just found this channel, and it's refreshing for a change. I have the Wiim and I have it hooked to a Schiit Modi DAC. I could tell a little difference though my speakers, but quite a bit of a difference through headphones. Cool video. Looking forward to more videos.
Thanks for reminding me of that old Spoon song. The production is fun and that outro is soooo weird. I've been living with the WiiM for six months and dig it.
WiiM Mini hands down. Sounds better and smaller chassis. Plus great customer service and ongoing free software updates. I only paid $84 + tax on Amazon a few months ago. It's the value product of the decade to me. Some call it the Blue Sound Node killer at $599 + tax. I simply plug in via aux out to my pre-amp and power outlet and stream away from my iPhone and / or iPad. No need for an external DAC. Very happy with the sound on my high end system.
Looking for a streamer for work where it will connect to an amplifier with mono 100v speakers. Which has the better internal dac? Not interested in adding an external dac. I'm currently running a Pi zero2 with a hifiberry rca dac with Volumio. But it lacks streaming options (Tidal, YT music etc) only having Spotify (Tidal plugin costs extra). However, i do prefer that i can just go to the Pi's internal website to do everything rather than needing an app. Do these streamers have an internal site as well or only through aan app?
Very honest and straightforward comparison, thank you, very good video. I'm very curious if you compared streaming the WiiM and using its internal DAC vs. your Schiit Modi. Did you get a notorious improvement in sound quality?
Yes and there wasn’t a huge difference in sound to be honest. My Modi is an older generation so I hope to compare a more modern DAC at some point if I can scoop one up somewhere.
Wiim any day of the week for me. I personally wouldn't give a whole point for a limited thumb-drive capability and I certainly couldn't give that feature equal weight with sound quality. But never mind all that, "just put some guac' on it and enjoy!"
Enjoyed your video very much but surely it’s all about the sound and for me the WiiM wins all day long. I know people may be on a budget but it’s not that big a price difference. However it’s all about opinions and I would never criticise anyone for buying either. Take care and all the best Ian from Glasgow.
I am looking for a streaming device and your video provided me with valuable insight. As sound is the reason we want a streaming device, the Wiim is the clear cut winner.
I really love the WiiM’s sound vs Bluetooth. I haven’t looked back since adding to my system and it works great with every piece of gear I throw at it!
It’s 2023 now, would you still recommend the fosi t20 and modi DAC, plus wiim for my own klipsch forte speakers? I have a Yamaha extra v367 (like 8yr old) receiver now.
@@ForeverAnalog Sorry for my bad English, with "brand" I mean the manufacturer, I ask if the wiim is manufactured by the same group as auralic, because here in Brazil I spoke with a seller and in his ad he mentions the wiim mini as being "arylic", as if it was the brand of the product, I was confused and I don't know exactly if it's original and the seller doesn't know how to tell me.
The WiiM sold me so hard on digital I only buy soundtracks now for vinyl. It’s amazing. Even using Spotify which is a lesser quality than Tidal it’s awesome. Plus I gave up on non soundtrack vinyl bc it’s too much to find and I’m too cheap lol.
The WiiM Mini's price is $6 cheaper here in Canada (at the moment) than the Arylic. One more point to the WiiM Mini. I don't have use for either as I don't steam music and I don't own a smartphone (you need one right?).
I’m not sure a wireless streamer is of much use if you don’t stream and have a smartphone. I suppose you could run a direct analog connection in and use the DACs inside for say, laptop or desktop music, but at that point I would shop for an external DAC only.
Honestly, the points the WiiM won seem much more important than the ones the Arylic won. So for me it's no contest, the WiiM wins. I use my WiiM to connect to a Denifrips Aries II, and that alone makes the Acrylic a non starter.
The Wiim Mini needs a smartphone app for setup & control, there's no app for tablets. I don't use a smartphone so after trying the Mini, I went with the Echo Link, that has similar connectivity but can be setup & controlled by a tablet. While the Link's internal DAC is OK, I opted for a Schiit Modi external DAC that is shared with my CD transport. I highly recommend Amazon Music Unlimited, it's a great value at $90/year for Prime customers. I have no experience with Aurylic, did you match levels during your listening tests?
every pixel perfect streamer should sound equally no? i mean using external dac. i have a Qutes chord dac so i just need the best bit perfect audio streamer on the market , no dac quality needed
Great question! I was just researching this unit earlier this week as I do not own any iFi products. I just bought another piece of gear to review so my budget is a little taxed but if I find a ZEN stream for a good price, I'll pick it up and try to review. Thanks for watching!

@michaelwright1602 Tried it a few times but it didn't help. Suddenly a few days ago, it got right again. I think it relates to my phone. Something with the Android updates.
Very helpful comparison, but please get some basics right. It is not a Brown-Burr dac chip inside; it is a Burr-Brown chip. Burr-Brown chip (from TI) is an old established name and has a long history in the consumer digital audio industry, so getting it wrong does not look good. Hope this helps!

True, I was just pointing out one comes with a remote and the other doesn't since it's a side by side comparison. Thanks for watching!
Brown Burr? 😄
Yeah I goofed that one up big time lol
Very helpful comparison, but please get some basics right. It is not a Brown-Burr dac chip inside; it is a Burr-Brown chip. Burr-Brown chip (from TI) is an old established name and has a long history in the consumer digital audio industry, so getting it wrong does not look good. Hope this helps!
Oops. Good catch, thank you. Sometimes the words come out differently than what’s stored in the old brain lol.
new s10+ is out
Mostly batteries do not come with it from China, Chinese gouverment and shipping companies forbid batteries!
Dang then it’s not even close 🤣 no optical out .. done
Burr Brown.
yeah I goofed that one up!
So wiim is at disadvantage from the get go, haha
Losers will be winners
