Can you tell us something about the sound quality: - WiFi compared to hard wired? - wiim mini optical output compared to PRO optical output? - inside DAC of the PRO compared to external DACs? - digital coax output of the PRO compared to coax output of Bluesound Node (and/or other streamers)? That would be very helpful for me making a choise. Thanks, from the Netherlands
I though the WiiM Mini and Pro couldn't get any better. I turned on multiroom audio today, within the Wiim app. It is flawless. Even switching music in rapid succession it sounds as if the 3 systems on 3 different floor were 6 speakers hard wired to a single receiver/streamer combo. I stood on the stairs, between floors to see if there was even the slightest out of sync issue. None, none, none, zero sync issues, zero delay. Thank you a thousand times for reviewing the Wiim on your channel.
How the heck did you get multiroom audio? I tried for HOURS and could not get an Streaming service to play on a single Echo device. I finally got my turntable to play on 1 (AND ONLY 1) echo device. Completely frustrating. Is the sole purpose of this thing to stream music from service to your stereo via cables from the Wiim to your stereo?
@@x1124x I have 2 Wiim Pros and a Mini. each connected to a stereo receiver, 2 receivers using optical, 1 using RCA cables from the Wiim's and another mini that I connect to a jbl bluetooth speaker. The stereo's all play in sync. The JBL bluetooth speaker is slightly delayed. You also have to have the first device in my setup being one of the stereo's and the other devices link multiroom audio to it in the Wiim app. If you play music to the bluetooth speaker then link other devices to it then you get dropouts in the music. I don't know if the connection to the echo is wifi or bluetooth, but if it's bluetooth that's most likely the problem. Bluetooth even if it's v5 is still too low bandwidth for stable multiroom audio, i'm guessing. Hope that helps
Nice! :) You forgot to mention it uses the same DAC as the mini. Such a DAC would be expected in something at that price-point, but people may have other expectation for the Pro.
I believe they expect people to bypass the DAC using the optical and/or coaxial outs. That's the way I would. Nice that it has so many inputs and outputs.
This is exactly the information I was looking for. Thanks! I can still with the mini…I do wish the Cheapaudioman would take a little time to understand and explain the hardware and design of what makes the gear he reviews better/worse/same as other gear. I don’t need or want an EE, but a little bit of design/hardware detail would make a huge difference in the value of this channel.
I agree to an extent but without a better DAC it's really just a slightly more flexible mini with Chromecast. Not sure if that justifies the extra moolah. If you don't need ethernet or Chromecast and are using an outboard DAC then just get mini.
@@aoelounge6446 If they really wanted to be a "Node killer" they could incorporate a good DAC, remote, and a subwoofer output and sell it for $249 - 299. It would sell like hot cakes and be considered an insane value.
Established Titles will go down as one of the biggest money scams on youtube,, @cheapauidioman I love your channel ,, I hope you look into this soon,,Much Luv
I bought a Wiim Mini when I set up my stereo earlier this year after seeing it on your channel, and honestly you would never need anything else for a simple stereo system. Super easy to use and plays great quality music. The only issue I had was on Tidal's end whenever the Wiim would update, but once Tidal fixed the app it's been smooth sailing. Absolutely recommend it.
Do you use the inbuilt DAC? I found I got better sound if I used the toslink and let the dac in my avr do the work... Just my experience. Didn't get great audio from using the wiim mini Dac.
I need to echo this: Please be more discerning with sponsors or they may be your undoing. This is one reason I personally never accepted sponsors when I was a text journalist and would not do so as a UA-camr either. That's just me personally as having had deep dive experience with the whole sponsor thing from the inside though not personally connected, but working for/with someone on an audio event. I have seen disasters with sponsors before. If one wants sponsors, that is fine, but just be discerning. I'd hate to see any damage to your channel Randy by some unscrupulous sponsor. What you do here is a service!
@@cheapaudioman That's good Randy. I don't like to see folks doing a good public service get damaged or destroyed by unscrupulous sponsor scams and the like. When I was in the saddle, I was offered sponsorship by a questionable company that had nothing to do with audio and I turned them down immediately because they wanted automatic quid pro quo and they also tried to pressure me. Two no-no's in my book.
Finally! I pushed you about this a few months ago. Glad to have a WIIM streamer that is in a rectangular case with feet. And for some of us, "build quality" is ALWAYS important. Bravo !
Thanks for brilliant review, I've got Roberts RS1 streamer which is good but it's only available streaming service is Spotify, it took me a while to setup mainly because I had it plugged into my home ethernet private network at home, once on WiFi it detected the unit and although it had a few problems updating firmware once completed works flawlessly. I have this connected into an external DAC via USB or optical (SMSL Sanskrit 10th MK-II) I haven't done any tweaking yet as I've only just purchased but it's got a lot of features and the manufactures website and customer support is very good. Thanks Cheapaudioman very informative and detailed reviews, the only problem I have is I keep selling old equipment and upgrading my headphone setup from your reviews. Just don't tell my misses 🤣🤣🤣
I bought one of these for my first try at streaming. I've been retired for 10 years and haven't kept up with tech - phones, computers, etc. I was concerned about successfully hooking it up. Actually found it pretty simple. Now playing spotify, amazon music, etc., power via a Yamaha AS700, speakers are JBL Studio 130's. Sounds good, easy to use - winner!
I just bought 2 of the minis before the pros were announced. They both came with power bricks. Crazy easy to set up. I use it to send hi res audio from Qobuz to my receiver using the optical cable and it is fantastic. I assumed it wouldn't come with cables and was pleasantly surprised that it did. I might have bought the pro if I had known about it, but I'm insanely happy listening to quality of audio the mini puts out.
Hi Darko, I'm somewhat Ignorant of Music Streamers. Did you connect your phone playing Qobuz to your receiver using an optical cable? how did you do that? I appreciate your advice.
@@Chiroman527 when you set up the WiiM you have to use the WiiM app to set it up. Once you are in the WiiM app you give it your login info for Qobuz and other streaming services. When playing music you select the service and song in the phone app and the WiiM gets it directly from your network, it does not pass through your phone first. The phone app just tells it what to do then the WiiM gets it from your wireless if it is the mini or from wireless or network cable in the cast of the WiiM pro. Your phone is a remote control only and not involved in the quality of the music. Your phone connects to the WiiM over your WiFi network. The WiiM mini connects to your receiver over optical or to it's rca or 3.5mm input. The phone has no physical connection to the wiim. If you use the optical connection like I did then your receiver's dac processes the audio signal instead of the WiiM's dac. If you use the 3.5mm out on the WiiM then the WiiM's dac does the digital to analog conversion. The optical is the preferred connection if your receiver supports it. The WiiM pro has an optical in as well as an optical out but the phone still connects over wifi
@@dextermorgan1 Room Yes. I have 3 of the WiiM's. 1 old receiver, no DAC that uses WiiM's DAC via the analog audio out. Room 2 WiiM's over optical, which bypasses the DAC into a Merantz sr6015 using the merantz's DAC. Room 3 WiiM optical out to Geshelli j2 DAC. J2 analog out to Merantz sr6015. The geshelli j2 is the active DAC there.
I started with a Wiim Mini a little before the Pro came out. Works great! I recently upgraded to the Pro in order to have automatic pass-through for the TV. This feature works quite reliably. Becuase of this one feature, I am able to use a quality DAC to feed the system without any extra complexity for my GF to deal with. On a side note, I tried out a MiniDSP SHD and it didn't sound quite as good streaming. That's a $1400 unit.
I can stil make a case (for some people) for the Echo Link/Bluesound Node over Wiim - the subwoofer out with bass management (high frequency cut off) . I plan on adding a sub at some point and this capability will be, for me, worth it's weight in gold. Again, that's only me and my use case but I believe if they add full bass management in the future (not just subwoofer out) they would make a lot of competition obsolete. Maybe they should go with two versions of the device - a new mini without an internal DAC (pure streamer) and with sub out and a PRO with a more decent DAC than the one inside it now. Just a thought...
100 % agree with you! It's a bummer that they still use the same DAC, although, its better than NOT having a DAC. Most audio nerds understand/accept they will be using an outboard DAC whether it is an external stand alone DAC or the DAC in your receiver/integrated amplifier. I think WiiM should just go for the juggular and make a PRO + version, that has a really good built in DAC, a remote, and a subwoofer output, and keep it under $300.
I like how often Wiim updates their software with bug fixes and new features. They also give you control over almost everything. Being able to turn the status light off is nice too.
I'm trying to figure out what a Wiim box does that I may or may not want/need - I currently have a house flooded with Google Home audio products. Regular Google Home speakers in the main bedrooms. A few Google Home Mini speakers in other areas, such as bathrooms. I have the Google Home Wifi Mesh network which includes a wifi extender that has integrated speakers and music playback ability. For video, I run Android OS on an Nvidia Shield Pro. Lastly, I am subscribed to Spotify. So, I can stream music anywhere in my house on the Google Home Speakers. My Nvidia Shield will send Bluetooth audio to Bluetooth headphones, also, anywhere in my house (I have a small house). My Shield also acts as a server of sorts for an external HDD full of music files (although the voice commands are a bit janky). What is it that Wiim offers that I am currently not experiencing? Is it the following: Access to hi-fi audio streaming like Tidal service; the ability to chose my own speakers; and the preamp functionality to add, say, a turntable, to my home audio network, should I so chose to? Is that what Wiim would offer? Basically, it tears down the walled garden? Am I overlooking something?
@@esperago I'll do my best to answer your questions. For starters I'm a pretty basic user, the only functionality I use is the hi-res streaming connected to my amp/dac all-in-one unit via optical. It functions well as a sound bar replacement setup. I'll explain my Wiim mini, the Pro should be similar with added functionality. The mini can choose from 3 outputs: optical, line out (3.5mm jack that can be used with RCA adapter with 4 voltage options), and Bluetooth. Here's where it gets interesting for inputs, either wi-fi, Bluetooth, or that very same 3.5mm but line in. So some of these connection methods go both ways. I don't have experience with record players but you might be able to take the signal from your record player preamp and feed it to the wiim and from there play it though the optical (or Bluetooth) in the room you're in OR in another room, either simultaneously or separately via another wiim. But don't quote me on that because I've never fiddled around with multiple wiim systems. I don't have any experience with multi room audio but you can link and synchronize the Wiims you choose (a separate devices screen lets you name and control various settings of each streamer including linking them together.) If I understand correctly, you can play the same song on a system in your living room and a small kitchen system so it's seamless as you move through your house doing chores. Or you can play only in the kitchen as you cook, as an independent streamer.
I brought the Wiim Pro after watching this. Very impressed with it once I got it hooked up. Thanks so much for the valuable insights. A real game changer for me, sounds great on my system. Nice they also added a PEQ. Great to get all the features at such a low price. Picked mine up on a lightning deal. Can’t beat this at such a low price point. Enjoying hi res on my stereo for the first time! Thanks for the great videos!
Thank you for the video. Just finding this device and placed one on order from Amazon. Already own the older Bluesound Node 2i and a couple of Echo links. Use them with various DACs I’ve tried. Decided to try this instead of upgrading one of the Links to the newest Bluesound Node. If it works out I will by a second one. I use several music services like Amazon Music HD, Apple Music, and Roon Server that I set up and digitized my entire CD collection to. Since it supports more than the Link maybe there are other streaming services I can change too. Curious how well voice control thru Alexa will work, if at all, with it. Just curious also what a DACs you thing are well targeted to work with it. Also do you think getting a linear power supply is worth getting to go with it, if so which one? Thank you again.
Just put in the order for this. Pairing it with a Aiyima T9 and a pair of Emotiva B1+. Putting the living room TV into it with the WIIM. Haven't had anything close to this in almost 30 years. Really looking forward to it.
The reason you need a streamer if you have a computer is that the streamer is way easier, and it goes in the equipment rack, and the app becomes your remote. The Wiim mini is killer and I can't wait to grab the Pro.
I have the WiiM Mini connected to my Technics SU-G700 M 2 via the optical cable and it sounds great through my Q acoustics concept 50’s. Very happy with the sound.
Hey Randy! Thanks for covering the new WiiM. Personally, I couldn't care less about commercials or sponsored ads. It sucks that you need to do them at all, but just take their money and let the idiots stew in the shame of not having their own channel get sponsored. 🤷🏼♂️
I just connected my Wiim Pro today running with Tidal and it works amazing. I have had a Wiim mini in my shop for awhile and have always been happy with that. My system is a Cambridge AXR100 with a Cambridge DACmagic 100 and Polk R200 speakers. I am thinking of getting a new DAC but I really like the sound of the DAC magic.
i just purchased the wiim mini.. and it came with a usb-c cable AND usb adapter for power... and they still give the optical cable. for like $80 bucks. crazy good value.
Great that this is finally out and you got your hands on it, but I think your enthusiasm got the better of you a bit as there are still some unanswered questions for me, e.g. why would you chose this over the mini, is it worth upgrading if you have a mini, does ethernet sound better than WiFi, does coax sound different to optical, why would you feed optical into it (when the onboard dac is bad), if you connect sources to it can you stream those to other wiim mini/pros on the same network? Etc. For me it's a no-brainer because my hifi gear is in a spot where WiFi is weak, but I have ethernet I can use, so solves the only problem I had!...love your channel & greetings from the UK!👍
I agree that this "review" is sloppy. To me, the implied answers to your questions are as follow: Preamp function, more connections No SQ upgrade here if that is what you are asking. Only more preamp function and connections No, not enough SQ difference over ethernet to even gush with one sentence No, again coax is just another mentioned connection More connections for different source with optical input Relay streaming over a streamer is redundant, isn't it? Assume no if it's not mentioned. Yes, wired connection is faster, more reliable, and preferable with no drop signal
I bought the WiiM pro streamer to go with my SVS prime wireless, and it really unlocked their potential. It does everything well, without having to use dts play-fi, which crashes and glitches too much. It worked flawlessly on Wi-Fi streaming from tidal, Spotify connect, chromecast, airplay 2, and DLNA playing the music files from my office computer. It sounds great too. Much cheaper but same functionality as a bluesound node
I thought the Cheap Audio Man to be a reputable and trustworthy Man, but now I have been ripped off on his advise by purchasing from Established Titles I am disgusted, no credibility !
This is awesome to hear. A friend and I were having a conversation a while back about streamers, and he was saying the streamer makes a huge difference in the sound of your setup. Sounds like those may be a good first streamer for me for something like Tidal to connect to
If you're using the digital out, and avoiding the inbuilt DAC, I don't think the streamer does anything the affect the sound at all. It just connects to the inteternet and stream the data. I may be wrong, but pretty sure the streamer has zero affect on sound quality unless you use its dac.
@@kaufmanat1 I would disagree on that, having used different streamers without DACs for quite some time. I have consistently noticed significant improvement going from Chromecast Audio ( that did have a DAC but I didn't use it ) to Auralic Aries Femto to Auralic Aries G2. It's down to implementation, power supply, galvanic isolation, USB handling, clock etc. However I do think the Wiim and the Pro are fantastic products and using an external DAC is the way to go before spending bigger bucks on a better streamer.
@@jimfarrell4635 yeah I agree with you...I've tried the Node, Cambridge CXN2, WiiM, Ifi Zen Stream, Arcam SA30, as well as using my phone with USB adapter into stereo. As much as I wish that a bit perfect signal would sound the same from whatever streamer into the same Dac it just isn't true. There are definitely things going on in a streamer that effect the sound, some more than others. Some sound the same, but the ones that stick out usually have a quieter background, which I think allows us to hear more detail and effects things like imaging and soundstage. But I also think the WiiM is a great product.. especially for it's price. Their Home app is better than most. The Zen and Arcam app is basically useless to me lol.
I've finally got why I'm hooked on these videos, his voice and vibe reminds me of the big lebowski dude!! Sorry if that is old news to regular watchers 😂
What would be the advantage of this over something like my Denon X-3500H please? Obviously I use the AVR for TV and Movies with a 5.1.2 setup, but is there any advantage to the WIIM Pro for listening to music?
I'm getting an Argon Audio Solo. It's on sale for black Friday for €179,- (Sorry it is EU only, no overseas shipping). It is a Roon endpoint and has Chromecast and airplay. No need for a dedicated app (also there isn't one). toslink and coaxial and it's built in DAC is much better than that of the WIIM's. Getting over the WIIM mainly because it has a much better DAC in it. About equal or a bit better than the one in the Blusound Node.
I just had my WiiM pro delivered on the 7th. I did not like the sound of the analog output with my Yamaha RV-681. So I ordered one of the S.M.S.L SU-1 MQA MQA-CD Audio Decoder. I hooked the 2 together with a digital coax cable. The results were very good, way better then using the SPDIF optical connection, which does not seem to work properly. I might have been doing something wrong, but the coax connection sounded so good, i didn't spend much time trying to figure out the optical connection. My speakers are KLH Kendall's. I listen to a lot of music. 6 or more hours a day. The Streamer and the Dac are just what i needed to make me happy with the sound of my system. If you are shopping floor standing speakers, I have to recommend the Kendall's over the RP-6000FII's that I had been using for the last 10 months. they sell for the same price per pair, and there is no comparison in my opinion.
Hi, I was looking at where to put this figured here is as good as anywhere... need some advice on my set up and where I could do better.... I am running 2 x Technics !210s through a DJM 400 Mixer into an RCA switcher that goes into a Behringer Minimon, also in to the switcher I have a Traktor S2 and a portable MD player.... I was going to run a Tablet as a Music Streamer with Apple music ... s0 3.5 out from the tablet to RCA in on the switcher then again that comes out through the Minimon (an 800 I believe) all of this comes out throuto 2 active KRK 5 speakers set up by my Turntables.... do you think this tablet set up will work well as a streamer... just using Apple Music.
Hey, I am really considering buying this to replace my arcam aircam 2 dac and Yamaha wxad 10 streamer. I’ve heard so many good things about the streaming aspect of the wiim but just how good is the dac? And would it be worth replacing my current set up with the Wiim pro +?
Thanks for this review. Would have been great to hear more about sound quality, comparisons to Node, Zen Stream, PecanPi, Wiim Pro + E50 Dac…etc.. Follow up video soon?
Surely sound quality is the most important bit? Also I believe the processor in the pro is much better than in the mini which will significantly impact stability. Also I heard recently that Chromecast is no longer gapless. Perhaps you can check/comment on that when you get chance to do a fuller review.
Thanks for the great review! I am excitedly adding the Wiim to my holiday wish list! My only issue here is there was a missed opportunity to do the awesome looking Wiim app some justice by singing “a-Wiim a-app” along to “The Lion Sleeps Tonight”, but I will make sure to do so when mine comes in. 😂
As you always state, as a streamer it is brilliant just amazing. As a dac, it leaves a lot to be desired. All the new analog inputs and outputs in the pro version will go through that not so great dac. Just an FYI. I'll be sticking with the mini in to a Geshelli J2.
Awesome video! Question: is the WiiM (either one) a good replacement for the Apple AirPort Express?? I use the AirPort to stream audio from my computer and cel phones to my Logitech Z625 speakers. Is the WiiM mini enough? Or should I go for the Pro? Thanks!
Thanks for a great review. I’m subscribing. I’m getting a wiim pro for streaming mainly but will run the tv through it if there are no lip syncing issues.
This is fantastic Just got it yesterday because I moved my stereo system to where I don't have a LAN connection, which my ancient SONOS connect needed. The app is extremely intuitive and effective, better than SONOS in my mind. I had the whole thing set up in less than five minutes. I am not using the DAC as I just have digital out to my receiver. Ease of use is 10/10, aesthetic is 10/10 for me, and since I'm just using it as a wireless source, I'm not worried about sound quality as it is bit perfect and supports everything I will give it. Great product for sure, and makes the Sonos Port look like highway robbery

There is a subjective difference to my ears. But there are too many variables in the chain. My main is a Node. Hooked the Mini via a Schiit Modi3 Tested on Tidal Connect with non-MQA tracks Seemed a tad more ‘compressed’ but heck for my office system it’s better than my old setup.

Hi! I’m new to this hobby and checking how to build, planning to get smsl sa300 - can wiim pro connected directly or shall I need an external dac? I’m thinking WIIM RCA out to SA300 RCA in, but I’m not sure if WIIM’s DAC is enough, Thanks!
I already wanted to buy before I finished watching your video. Went to Amazon don’t find it, went to wiim website they don’t show nothing about it. Then came back to your video…. Oh not out yet lol. can’t wait!
With the newer upgraded internal computer and new Wired Ethernet input the WiiM Pro could be a vast improvement on what was already a pretty decent streamer. The price is right on these streamers that's for sure, would be awesome if the new one improved on sound quality
So, I just bought this for my home theater receiver, (because HEOS isn't as good as it could be) and was shocked that the software looks exactly like the 4stream app for the Arylic S50 pro streamer, and Outlaws RR2160 MKII receiver(it would be cool to see your review on that.) I can even see all devices in each specific software.I didn't check to see if each app could control all devices, though. Are all these companies under one umbrella?
I'm not certain that this is *the* definitive answer, but some of these brands are powered by Linkplay technology in some capacity. This includes SoC modules and a standard companion app. Source: Linkplay website Also: "Welcome to Arylic's developer documentation. This documentation describes the API of DIY audio boards, which are manufactured by the Linkplay company. Their boards are so called white label solutions, which means that hundreds of brands use them in their own products (as Arylic does). There are many well-known manufacturers that use Linkplay as their core." Source: From the Arylic HTTPAPI Developer page Meanwhile, it is apparent that WiiM is actually the in-house brand of Linkplay.
Darko Audio also did a review of Wiim Pro, he mentions that it uses the same DAC as the Mini and figures Wiim did this assuming most users will use an external DAC. If you already own a Wiim Mini feeding an external DAC I doubt you'll getter better sound from the Pro unless the coax output provides an improvement over the optical.
Would those work on my usecase? Planning to hook up my tv via optical in then use the optical out to connect my current speakers (HiVi Swan D100) and use the other RCA out to hook up a dedicated subwoofer?
Definitely looking forward to picking this up. Looking forward to being able to select between home theater input and music streaming through my phone or tablet. I think that it will be a better option than the Arylic S50 pro+ with physical remote for me. Thanks again for your reviews and recommendations.
Hi Randy, love what you do. I want to download hi res recording of some favs. Can I then play this using the Wiim of a thumb drive. PS I notice that your down to earth approach is influencing some of my fav audio influencers. Great stuff !
Biggest bonus is Amazon Music cast and speaker config. I have a Bluesound power node and separate system Nad / Wiim mini combo and will buy a pro to add to my power node just for the convenience. Software integration is key 😊
I missed out on the Brooklyn bridge when it was available so I’m really pleased that Established Titles are available…everybody says I’m a prince. Lost my pet rock.
Personally, I don’t need the unboxing experience at all and would prefer more details about the DAC and the differences from the mini besides the input and outputs. You’re still my favorite audio man and you’re cheap! Thanks Randy.
Hi Randy, thanks for this video. What about bluetooth - does the Wiim Pro aptx hd? Which dac do you recommend for the Mini and the Pro? best regards from Berlin, Germany Carsten
Thanks for the video! How would you compare the internal DAC of the Wiim to the one of the Yamaha WXAD-10? My Yamaha doesn´t work anymore and I´m thinking of replacing it with the Wiim, but would like to save the extra money that would cost an external DAC, although I know the internal is far from being perfect. Thank you!!
Need some advice here. When it comes to music I am old school vinyl with HK citation, Big technics Sa9600 power amp etc... The technics recently decided it needed a massive overhaul so I bought a Fosi V3 on your recommendation as a stop gap and it's pretty damn good and for the money....amazing. I am now looking to get my music streamed from my Mac mini ( in my basement) up to my separates in my dad cave and the wiim pro looks like it could be the answer. I especially like that you can add a TT through it as the TT is on show but the separates are housed about 10ft away so it would save me a ton of cabling. Does the wiim pro sound like a good fit for my application? The Mac mini is a 2010 running high Sierra...If the wiim and Mac will talk to each other through Apple play will all my music be accessible through the app? Sorry for my lack of knowledge but I have had nothing to do with streaming....either blue tooth or WiFi so any advice would be great. Thanks.
I use an Apple TV first ver to stream anything I can play on my iPhone to my vintage receiver. What big benefit is there to using a streamer device like this. Thanks.
WiiM Pro sounds like a great replacement for both Zone 1 theater music streamer, though AudioControl XR6s is Roon Ready, but moreso to take over for Zones 2 and 3. My biggest dilemma is SiriusXM via HEOS is our daily habit. Might WiiM be adding SiriusXM compatibility anytime soon?
I am currently using ROKU devices in 3 rooms for all our video streaming needs. On my main system, the ROKU is connected to the Sony Receiver. On occasion I'll also play Spotify through the ROKU. Will I get a better sound quality streaming Spotify through the WIIM Mini or the WIIM Pro?
Bought one was hoping to run my old turntable a Garrard AT6 through it hoping it would work but no sound as I still need a pre amp so why not put a pre amp in? It says turn your old gear into smart but this is not very smart is it? The app I found very buggy took ages to setup then the thing was faulty it turned out the optical socket was faulty and sound was coming on and off and drop outs. So now I have to return it.
I was going to buy another BlueSound node for my 2 channel setup instead I will buy 2 of these. The ability to stream amazon natively using the amazon app and not blue os will be fantastic. Does it have usb out? That might ne the only benefit for those of use using external dacs and wanting to go usb out. Perhaps a ddc in tween the streamer and Dac nullifies any differences.. Darko said this will be $150 launch I believe next week it goes on sale.

Established titles is a scam.. there are a lot of videos out regarding this in the last few days.
@@chrisodillman3355 you mean a foreign national can’t buy land in another country online without any documentation or signatures!? I am truly shocked
This really is something you should look into and reconsider the sponsorship.
this is a scam dont support it! Please support the actual company that plants the trees onetreeplanted. They have no evidence of giving any money to them.
This sponsor gives no documentation as to whether it gives the money to the charity it claims. It is a scam, don't support it.
Can you tell us something about the sound quality:
- WiFi compared to hard wired?
That's too bad. I was hoping the Wiim Pro would have a better DAC. I already have a Wiim Mini. What I miss are better DAC and a remote control.
@@aoelounge6446 If they really wanted to be a "Node killer" they could incorporate a good DAC, remote, and a subwoofer output and sell it for $249 - 299. It would sell like hot cakes and be considered an insane value.
I'm happy with my LGV30,and I have new one as a back up.Very savoury with the T9,plugged into the unit,no bloody BT.
Established Titles will go down as one of the biggest money scams on youtube,, @cheapauidioman I love your channel ,, I hope you look into this soon,,Much Luv
Apparently not. Still the pinned comment.
@@kaufmanat1 I don't, which is a good clarification. This thing is an excellent streamer, but it's always better to have a separate DAC.
I cancelled my contract with them
@@cheapaudioman That's good Randy.
You might want to reconsider the Established Titles sponsorship
Finally! I pushed you about this a few months ago. Glad to have a WIIM streamer that is in a rectangular case with feet. And for some of us, "build quality" is ALWAYS important. Bravo !
Mine just arrived, I am now running Flac audio via optical cables.
Wow.
Thanks Randy!
Just don't tell my misses

I forgot to use your link when I bought my Wiim Pro Streamer so here you go! Keep the videos coming!
I added this. Amazed at how well it works.
Thanks Randy. I'll be buying the Wiim Pro and a Geshelli J2 DAC for less money than I'd pay for a NODE.
🅗🅘🅣🅜🅔🅤🅟🎀🎁
I bought one of these for my first try at streaming. I've been retired for 10 years and haven't kept up with tech - phones, computers, etc. I was concerned about successfully hooking it up. Actually found it pretty simple. Now playing spotify, amazon music, etc., power via a Yamaha AS700, speakers are JBL Studio 130's. Sounds good, easy to use - winner!
Typo, s/b JBL Studio 530's.
@@darkoresnik75 Can you bypass the DAC in this and use an external DAC?
@@dextermorgan1 Room Yes. I have 3 of the WiiM's. 1 old receiver, no DAC that uses WiiM's DAC via the analog audio out. Room 2 WiiM's over optical, which bypasses the DAC into a Merantz sr6015 using the merantz's DAC. Room 3 WiiM optical out to Geshelli j2 DAC. J2 analog out to Merantz sr6015. The geshelli j2 is the active DAC there.
Nice! A great central unit and the mini’s for a real multi room setup
So glad I didn't buy a second Mini for my basement setup. Now I can pick this up for my main and toss the mini in the basement. Thanks Randy!
Randy thank you! What's your thought on the built in DAC? Thought it was the TI Burr-Brown PCM5121 DAC?
I started with a Wiim Mini a little before the Pro came out. Works great! I recently upgraded to the Pro in order to have automatic pass-through for the TV. This feature works quite reliably. Becuase of this one feature, I am able to use a quality DAC to feed the system without any extra complexity for my GF to deal with. On a side note, I tried out a MiniDSP SHD and it didn't sound quite as good streaming. That's a $1400 unit.
I have a raspberry pi (bought when they were like $49.99) streamer and aside from having to reboot it occasionally it sounds great.
I don't have any experience with multi room audio but you can link and synchronize the Wiims you choose (a separate devices screen lets you name and control various settings of each streamer including linking them together.)
If I understand correctly, you can play the same song on a system in your living room and a small kitchen system so it's seamless as you move through your house doing chores.
I thought I missed something, but I guess I didn't. What did you think of the DAC? Is it any better than the one in the Mini, or should we bypass it?
Same DAC, unfortunately.
Just got the pro today. I’m impressed. It might not be super heavy but the rubber on the bottom does a great job at keeping it in place.. bumping etc.
I gave Sith Title $2 and my new name is Prince Longmember Village Slayer.
Very happy with the sound.
can you compare the sound of wiim pro to bluesound or ifi zen stream when paired with an external dac?
To me, the implied answers to your questions are as follow:
Preamp function, more connections
No SQ upgrade here if that is what you are asking. Only more preamp function and connections
No, not enough SQ difference over ethernet to even gush with one sentence
No, again coax is just another mentioned connection
More connections for different source with optical input
Relay streaming over a streamer is redundant, isn't it? Assume no if it's not mentioned.
Yes, wired connection is faster, more reliable, and preferable with no drop signal
@@toanduong Can you bypass the internal DAC in this and run to an external DAC? I would assume so.
Hey Randy, The middle button on the front selects the playlist you have selected as “1”
I thought the Cheap Audio Man to be a reputable and trustworthy Man, but now I have been ripped off on his advise by purchasing from Established Titles I am disgusted, no credibility !
You didn't actually send money, did you?

What would be the advantage of this over something like my Denon X-3500H please? Obviously I use the AVR for TV and Movies with a 5.1.2 setup, but is there any advantage to the WIIM Pro for listening to music?
Well thank you sooo much> I just bought and installed the Bluesound Node and so you’ve ruined my day. LOL
Great video! Do you need more than one wiim in order to connect 2 different devices (Klipsch Fives and Bose Smart Speaker)?

Hey, I am really considering buying this to replace my arcam aircam 2 dac and Yamaha wxad 10 streamer. I’ve heard so many good things about the streaming aspect of the wiim but just how good is the dac? And would it be worth replacing my current set up with the Wiim pro +?

Also Andover Songbird. Fewer features but also going for $99 these days. Curious how the apps compare.
Afternoon Randy hope you have a great day
As you always state, as a streamer it is brilliant just amazing. As a dac, it leaves a lot to be desired. All the new analog inputs and outputs in the pro version will go through that not so great dac. Just an FYI. I'll be sticking with the mini in to a Geshelli J2.
Does the Mini have Coax SPDIF out?
@@navinadv - negative. Which is why the Wiim Pro will sell like hotcakes.

This will replace my Echo Link in my main system. Looking forward to the release, please keep us posted! Thanks Randy! 👍👍👍

Source: Linkplay website
Also: "Welcome to Arylic's developer documentation.
This documentation describes the API of DIY audio boards, which are manufactured by the Linkplay company. Their boards are so called white label solutions, which means that hundreds of brands use them in their own products (as Arylic does). There are many well-known manufacturers that use Linkplay as their core." Source: From the Arylic HTTPAPI Developer page
Meanwhile, it is apparent that WiiM is actually the in-house brand of Linkplay.
Would this be a good replacement for a Sony str dh190? Looking to get more out of my tv setup.
Hey there! Would you recommend with the Reisong A10 ?
I love my mini, appreciate you bringing it to my attention
Would those work on my usecase? Planning to hook up my tv via optical in then use the optical out to connect my current speakers (HiVi Swan D100) and use the other RCA out to hook up a dedicated subwoofer?
I have and love the Wiim mini, Hopefully at some time in the future they add a USB port to the Pro so that we can read our Hi Res music files.
Would love to hear your thoughts on a direct comparison with the bluesound node!
Nice review. What is t he amp (pre amp?) to the left of Iron Man, over Randy's shoulder?
Biggest bonus is Amazon Music cast and speaker config. I have a Bluesound power node and separate system Nad / Wiim mini combo and will buy a pro to add to my power node just for the convenience. Software integration is key 😊
I missed out on the Brooklyn bridge when it was available so I’m really pleased that Established Titles are available…everybody says I’m a prince. Lost my pet rock.
It’s a great looking device and I’ll probably pick one up but without HDMI it doesn’t replace the Bluesound Node for me.
What DAC, if any, would you recommend as a substitute for the WiiM builtin DAC for improved sound?
Love my mini. However after three weeks returned the Pro. Needs to be restarted daily or even twice a day. Mini is ok in same network setting
Pro is available as of this morning on Amazon - placed my order
Personally, I don’t need the unboxing experience at all and would prefer more details about the DAC and the differences from the mini besides the input and outputs.
You’re still my favorite audio man and you’re cheap! Thanks Randy.
Impatiently waiting! Thanks for another great review!
Do you need the latest iOS for the app? I’m stuck using iOS 11 for compatibility with my older MacBook Pros
Hi Randy,
thanks for this video. What about bluetooth - does the Wiim Pro aptx hd?
Which dac do you recommend for the Mini and the Pro?
best regards from Berlin, Germany
Carsten
Thanks.
Than ks for the review. Can you tell us if the WIIM pro will be seen as a DLNA Media renderer/receiver from the PC? Thanks
Can’t wait to get one and glue quarters to the top, lol
Is this device compatible with a sonos speaker in a multiroom setup?
Wiim Pro vs Argon Solo.
Need music streamer with my integrated Amp. Which one to get. Please advice.
Thanks in advance.
I use an Apple TV first ver to stream anything I can play on my iPhone to my vintage receiver. What big benefit is there to using a streamer device like this. Thanks.
Guys this sponsorship takes the money that would instead go towards conservation work. Please watch Scott Shafers video.

No usb out on the Wiim Pro. It's options are coax and optical toslink.
@@IronHorsey3 I think coax out to ddc then I2S out to my Dac will work well. Looking at the new matrix spdif 3 or singxer su6
Do you know if there is any dedicated streamer (besides Sonos) that integrates with UA-cam Music? I can’t find any….
