I go back and watch these dubs from the 1960s and I frankly think they're BETTER than the dubs done in the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, and even most of the dubs from the last 10 years! Even the Ultraman dub from 1966 isn't bad compared to what they do today. I had some issues with the dub of Shin Ultraman which I didn't think was a bad film. There's casting choices and performances I have issues with in that movie -- IN ENGLISH. It's fine when you watch it in the original Japanese with subs.
Just when you think you've seen them all, you find something like this. I had a smile on my face the whole time. I wonder if this is where they got the idea for Underdog being a shoeshine boy.
... you know, one of the things I genuinely love about this is that the adults immediately recognize the alien race's name and take the threat seriously right from the start. SO MANY Japanese kids movies of this era have the kids spending half the movie trying to convince the adult that there is a threat in the first place. (I'm thinking in particular of the Gamera movie whose name I can't remember where two kids are kidnapped by the villainous aliens, and their sister spends the whole movie desperately trying to explain to their mother what happened, but she refuses to believe her and keeps punishing her for "lying")

OMG the Japanese did these badly dubbed films so well, it’s what gave these films their charm. Along with the cartoons such as Astroboy, Prince Planet etc and live action such as Shintaro the samurai and Phanthom Agents the 50s and 60s were the peak. And who can forget Sharman.
This was the first Japanese film I watched back in the 80s late nite Saturdays. I think they must have pinched idea for the nose for the bad guys from the wicked witch in the wizard of Oz😂. Good movie for the time and dubbed in English for a wider audience. I also like the Godzilla Vs? Movies. Looking out for more like this. Enjoyed thank you 🙂☺️👌👍🙌
04:07 Usually these old scifi movies from the 40's and 50's have a villain with cartoonish evil laugh, but in this movie that bad guy wasn't even trying - Ha Ha Ha Ha.
In its native Japan, the film was released to theaters as a mini-serial, with two hour-long episodes. In the US, it was edited into a single feature film running less than 90 minutes.

Ah, The good old days when super-villains had menacing names! Krankor... Sinestro... Dr. Doom... Darkseid... Zoltar... Dr. Hell... Baron Ashura... Count Glocken... Red Skull...

If Krankor is around 500,000 miles from Earth, it would be the closest planet to Earth in our solar system. It would be twice as far from Earth as the moon, and tens of millions of miles closer than Venus or Mars.
This is a version of two theatrical films combined and made for US release based on the television show, with all online references, including IMDB and Wikipedia, that state it was released in 1959. All references state that the original tv show was from the previous year of 1958. My guess is that the title page for this version was made for the US release and a mistake was made with the date. Just as there are some inconsistencies with the english dubbing.
Just found a site that explains that the Walter Manley Enterprises Inc. acquired the international rights to this and other japanese shows in the 60's. That may be the year it was released in the US, although Wiki states it was released in the US in 1962. So technically that may the case for when this film was released in the US.

Japanese! The Japanese sci-fi and monster movies, although not always the best acted or produced, were usually entertaining. Considering when it was made, subtitles would have been better than the English dubbing.
I absolutely love these films and the times. So innocent, polite, warm.
I sleep well knowing the earth is being protected by the Prince of Space.
Handsome, strong, that amazing outfit, and the voice
I sleep well because I know the Prince of Peace
This was a great movie. It was so fun. It is better than anything produced today. They should make more movies like this.
