Takes back 35 years (favorably) to a time when I chased and photographed steam trains with a friend who was a world-class train nerd. (Def. "train nerd: A photo was not perfect unless the wheel drivers on an engine moving at 70 mph were in a specific configuration to display the mechanism and no motion blur.) Memories of racing up mountain roads, then hiking through half a mile of brush to reach the "perfect" scene overlook. Standard location shoot: Set up best composition in advance on a tripod. Wait for train to approach. Power drive through half a roll of 35mm as engine reached optimum location. Race to car and speed to next location. Repeat.
Great stuff!!! We don't have any steam engines anywhere near me. I really need to haul out my PE 100-220mm more often. I was just cursing about that yesterday when a bald eagle literally landed in a tree 50 meters away and all I had was the 100mm MC macro. I swear that eagle stopped long enough to laugh at me. I only got one crap digital shot with my phone. Comically in my bag I also had a 150-400 zoom, cause I'm considering buying a K3iii mono.
Great content🔥I really like your pictures and way of explaining your composition and techniques. Also, I see that you have a Bronica ETR. What is your opinion on getting an ETR or just a 645 back for my Bronica SQ A? I only have the 80mm PS lens
Your careful planning paid off nicely

was very interesting to see your methodical approach to taking these images, thanks for taking us on the ride :)

I had the sq-a with a 646 back. It's great. Worth trying out. I will be selling the etr to fund a hassy tho.
@@SprocketHoles Good luck with your Hasselbald purchase. Can't wait to see a comparison between it and the Bronica SQ
The image you took at 12:10 doesn't seem to be from where you scouted at the end of that platform.
Shhhhh, its not. I moved back down the platform as the tripod would not fit in the original location safely.
