As someone who’s worked in the coffee field for a long time, we usually prepared drinks “children’s temp” if it was for a little one, and that was 130-140 on the thermometer. A standard espresso drink is 165-175 degrees. Black coffee from out standard brewer was about 185 degrees, and if that temperature dropped below 175, usually people who were senior citizens would tell us it was cold.

When i was a kid in the 60s i was into building devices as your daughter did -
I grew up surounded by early electricans - my grandfather was an early 1900s machanic electrican -
Only those within city limits had power house power back in the 1900s-
Many of the small towns in the deep south were supplied with 110 volts DC - when i was a child in the late 50s i would go with my grandfather to hand him renches as he worked on equipment in the old DC power houses -
They were hybrid - they would have 50 or 60 huge 2 volt lead acid cells that were charged for 4 hrs a day once a day during the summer when every one was using fans -
They only charged now and then during the winter - AC power plants had to run 24/7 so back then AC power was to expencive because of fuel cost -
110 DC Hybrid power plants only burned 1/6th to 1/10th the fuel of AC plants so DC power was much cheaper than AC power - so small towns often had DC befor REA took them over -
Down here few had air conditioning till the 70s and many only used them at night when they slept -
If some one had a TV in a DC town they had a motor driven inverter to convert the DC to true sign wave AC - a TV only worked on AC -
In small fowns you could hear the power house huge single cylinder engine charging the power house batterys in the morning -
Deep cycle RV & Boat batterys use an acid strength of 1,275 gravity -
The acid in power house stationary cycle batterys was weak compared to RV batterys -
The acid strength was generaly 1.200 acid strength down here - today few know this - in the old days weaker acid was used in cycle batterys - even farm homes that had 32 volt DC powering there homes the house batterys acid was 1.220 strength -
Power houses set up so the batterys would last at least 70 yrs - with the weaker acid battery's dont supfate as much so cells will last decades -
Farm home batterys were often 1.220 strength acid they had a expected service life of at least 40 yrs -
Thats a little history - ive had my pole power knocked out for up to 9 months after hurricanes or ice storms -
Its never effected me i always have hybrid power -

Apparently they were a huge supplier to Western Auto parts and more stores. I also have other things from the 4 crates NOS stuff that may be from them as it is others. Got three brand new 15" truetone brand TV's still in boxes in those crates, so very odd mix in them.

Western auto sold all kinds of things in the 60s - I remember going to western auto as a kid -
The first battery charger I bought when I was about 7 yrs old was a 1 amp 6 or 12 volts battery charger - I also bought a deep cycle 6 volt 60 amp Crusader wet cell battery I think it might have been $5 -
I cought cotton mouths in the swamps at night and used a 6 volt spot light to shine them as I cought them - a old guy bought the big ones for a silver dollar - he made belts and suspenders out of them -
We pulled the fangs out the snakes so they would not fang each other in the burlap sack as I put them in the sack in my boat -
We carried the anti venom for snake bights - it was blackberry extract - I was struck 4 times in all the blackberry extract did work and we rubbed camphor extract into the bite also -
Camphor extract worked well for hunting dogs when they were struck on the snout
There were trillions of cotton mouths were I grew up down here in the deep south -
My grate grandfather was a druggist so my dads family knew how to deal with bites and make natural extracts for mosquito repellent like they did in the 1700 & 1800s down here

Thats a cool diy tester. I like the idea of having something run without needing an inverter, or converter. DC leds seem better then AC run leds, but I still don't like the light leds put out. I use incandescent in main areas and CFL in other places that would get left on. Leds are used in 4 places as they have a flicker, regardless how much they cost.
Would I need to go with a 200ah battery to run my old 1970s maytag clothes washer?

The other comment i made was on lead acid batterys used for house battery's in farm light plants and power houses in small towns from around 1890 till REA brought grid power to rural america - those power houses and home farm light plant batterys with weaker 1.220 or 1.200 acid compared to todays batterys with the strong 1.275 acid lasted far longer with the weaker acid -
If an old electrican said the power house had 80 yr batterys - he was saying the acid strength was 1.195 gravity fully charged -
But it will also freeze at 0°F so real weak acid was only used in the deep south US and Florida power houses - also there is a lot of capacity loss with the weaker acid -
With 1.200 acid strength there is a 35% loss in capacity and with 1.220 there is a 30% loss in capacity -
My bank is 1.220 for my stand by system for my home -
At 1.220 thats good to minus 17°F when fully charged - in my case i just took golf cart batterys that were 100% fully charged and dumped the acid out -
Then i deluted the acid to 1.220 streangth and poured it back into the barterys -
If its a 12 volt system the standing voltage at 80°F at 1.275 will be 12.75 volts - with a acid strength of 1.220 at 80°F the standing voltage will be 12.40 volts -
As long as space and weight is not an issue you can increase the size of your bank of batterys -
With lithium batterys the BMS balances the cells as they charge -
With wet cells or flooded batterys they have to be equalized -
Also if you reduce the acid streangth of a lead acid battery - you would have to reduce the peak charge voltage to the higher tempeture settings on programable chargers -
I use the warmer 80° setting on my Xanax true charger - also the float voltage will be reduced say from 13.1 volts to 12.8 volts - i was a genrator electrician for decades in the offshore oil fields -
There extreamly large banks of batterys on platforms -
If a battery was using up water on a float charge i would reduce the float voltage -
With a acid strength of 1.220 the self discharge rate is very slow it might take 6 months during the winter or longer for a ,220 battery to self discharge - they also need very little maje up water -
On modern platforms we use 1.220 strength acid in batterys -
I use a old vintage 1 amp Schumacher battery charger to float 13 sets of gulf cart batterys - thats 26 batterys total or a usable capacity of about 9000 watts between charges -
With solar you would have to reduce your cut out voltage to 13.8 to 14.0 volts cut out -
In cycle service you would reduce the peak charge voltage just befor the battery gases -
When its gassing as when you equalizing them - just allow them to gas about like when a carbonated drink bubbles as it setting still on a table -
With equalizing you would hold the voltage at not more than 3% above your peak charge voltage -
For those that use lead acid batterys this is good information -
With weaker acid just put Vaseline on the termanals and you will no longer have corrosion problems as you do with strong acid -
You can look up exide farm loght batteiton the net and information from the 30s about battery care will come up - when millions of farm homes used 32 volts DC for powering there homes - on the industrial side for us the lead acid is still a better choice it far more reliable - but for the consumer side i would say go with lithium -
( I use Trace PV........FC inverters the work out better with lead acid batterys - you can call Trace teck support on that - i use the PV2000FC - there FCC Class A part 15

Hello john. I saw one of your old videos converting corded lawnmower to battery operated. Now I noticed you have cordless lithium ion lawnmower how do you convert that battery into using lifepo4?

    • @JOHNDANIEL1
      @JOHNDANIEL1  5 місяців тому

Find sufficient cells for amps/voltage that will fit in LiFePO4 chemistry and a qualified BMS then just change out the cells/BMS to avoid the Li-on versions. You may need a charger that is for the voltage you end up with, but you can be either side of 5% of the Lithium Ion for the device and run fine converting to similar LiFePO4. Battery Hookup batteryhookup.com/ is a good cell source.

11:09... Watts of electrical consumption does not Equal Watts of light output. You make it sound as the if the 9W rating from the Seller is a bad thing since you only measured 7.3W with a (as you stated) Quite Bright Bulb.
I would say the Bulb is MORE efficient than stated by the seller giving a Quite Bright output at LESS power consumption.
