Everyone loves the action in John Wick (me included), but honestly my favorite part is the lore and world building. The thought of an entire group of assassins that follow certain rules and ethics is so cool. The desert place, the hotel, the ballerina stuff. Love it
The problem is that this secret society of assassins seems to have absolute control over the whole world. World governments & police seem to be a polite fiction in this world where you can break out into a firefight in the middle of the Arc de Triomphe & no cops arrive on the scene.
The first 2 were great, but it's too over the top now with the kevlar suits, where it's almost impossible to kill the guy. Ridiculous really. I think the Equalizer franchise is better. Love Keanu though.

The entire Wick franchise is a mixture of a modern day western and samurai masterpiece. It's at the level of Kurosawa and Leone's movies. Every kill was done for a purpose and a great reason because it's love and poetry in motion at the end.
You noticed in John Wick 4 everytime they had a scene that felt like a Western the soundtrack would go Western And when they would reference a Samurai movie it would play Japanese music

They've gotten so ridiculous it's hard for me to watch them. Keanu is almost 60 years old and the choreography is so insane and the scenes are so long, that I keep catching myself getting bored and zoning out. Then I feel like I missed something cool, so I rewind it, but I didn't miss anything.

Peter Serafinowicz has had bit parts in lots of stuff and he always kills it, Spy, Shaun of the Dead etc, but his comedy and impressions are second to none.
I've worked on movies and I can tell you there are directors on big-budget VFX, CG heavy films who don't know what compositing, comping even is. You can tell Stahelski has great respect for the craft and the craftspeople behind the camera.
Its crazy how they did four movies and the fourth one was so good too, maybe even way better than the previous ones. Its crazy the consistency and quality.
honestly the coolest thing about John Wick was Charon, because the first time you see him John gives him a gold coin, kind of like how people give gold coins to Charon the boat guy in greek mythology to pass the river Styx into the underworld, just a cool lil' thing i noticed.

As of John Wick 4 we see a father and daughter duo in charge of the Japan Continental; this may have been the case in New York. Maybe Winston's daughter didnt want to be apart of his world and John was willing to leave that world for her. Following her death John is surprised that Winston is still running the Continental, but thats just a rough idea.
I still think John Wick 1 and 2 are the best out of the 4, but love them all and hearing the behind the scenes stories is incredible. Well done to all involved.

I mean the guy’s going around with what amounts to an AK-47 shotgun - which instantly sets people on fire and throws them across the room. It’s pretty silly. 😂 …and by that point in the franchise, I was so desensitized to all the violence that the dragon’s breath scene was just physical comedy.
There is one line in the movie at the end where they question is he is in hell or heaven.. if the line was "who are we to judge" was used instead of "who knows " this could give the movie a new depth .. cane being blind we judged his disability and the nobody character was also misjudged etc. I would definitely make an alternative ending with this line
John Wick was written by a guy named Derik Kolstad. And Chad acts like he "created a universe?" He filmed what the writer created. Brought it to life, but he didn't come up with those ideas. He isn't even credited as a writer on any of the movies. Couldn't mention the guy's name once? People understand that everything that happens and every word in a movie that's said comes from the writing, right?
Did he not mention the writer at all in the whole podcast... Poor show. One thing I will say is that directors have to visualise what is written. It is literally his vision of the writing. They are both as responsible as each other. I do agree writers should get more recognition.
