100-YEAR-OLD Golf Course Renovation | Canal Shores Part 2

Chicago's iconic Canal Shores Golf Course is getting a major facelift in 2024. The designer gives us a glimpse into a few of the changes golfers will be treated to when it's done in Summer '24, including a 70-yard par-3 at the crown of the property where putter is your only option. We also get a chance to hear from the locals on what they think of the changes coming.

My father was born in 1926 and grew up in Evanston playing this course. It might have been called 'Peter Jans' then, a big feature was having to hit across the North Shore Canal on one of the holes. My Dad started caddying there when he was 8 (1934) and the only requirement was you had to be taller than the golf bag.

They had a caddie progam?! That's awesome. Didn't know that. I remember my first experience there being when we played against Evanston HS. Had a guy run out from the bushes and grab my ball from the fairway... then try and sell it back! haha

Canal Shores will also become a wonderful permanent location for First Tee; bringing the joy and life lessons of golf to a new generation of golfers. Creating the practice and teaching area for First Tee took away one hole and necessitated creation of the new Par 3 ‘putters only’ hole. Truly a Second Century in more than just one way.
