Thank you. This was very helpful!
Thank you Gene you were my first UA-cam angler I started listening to and you always provide great relevant info
I've been thinking I need to take that step into jigs. Thanks for the insight Gene.
What a great idea of tucking that tag in. Wow little things do help
Thank you bud for the great tips
thanks for the tips
Awesome explanatory video
Thank you for this, beginning angler here just trying to catch something other than catfish for once!
Very educational
Great information my friend
Gene, can i ask you if you would use braid with a jig in grass or not at all. Thanks for excellent videos!
Great video...tagged it to watch it at home so I can take notes....one question....as beginner.... Do you put a bait on all those jigs or just plain hook? Also....do you put a trailer hook??
Thanks a again for this awesome video.......
Started fishing last summer and SO wish I had known about your channel then. Can’t wait to put what I’ve learned on your channel into use this summer! Hopefully I get the big catches I’ve been waiting for!
Awesome! Thank you!
What jig should I use for a lake that has the has grass that is from the bottom to floating on the top. I've see it in 10 to 15 foot. When I fish there everybody is some place else. This is a bass paridise. Bluegill and bait fish all over. I'm new to this kind of fishing. I've haven't had a bunch of luck. Not for the lack of trying. Any other pointer for this type of cover? Keep the vedio coming I can't wait to get out this year. Just pick up my new BF 120.
Nice info.
GREAT video
good video, thanks. on a different note, is that ladder rack/tube storage system on your truck available commercially or did you make it?
awesome video as always and awesome tips as always
I wore them out last year bank fishing crawdad colored football jigs. This year has not allowed as much fishing as I would like. Thanks for the vid.
Can you use a football head jig on clay or mud bottom with lots of fallen trees around?
For Swim Jigs would you recommend Paddle Tails or something like a Rage Craw? I've caught fish on a rage craw trailer on a swimjig but I feel like I could catch more on a Paddle tail.
What would you recommend fishing when there is thick weeds and a sandy bottom?
Is a 7'4" spinning rod too long? Cabelas employee pushed me on to KVD's spinning rod because it was marked down $100 bucks, I'm starting to see why haha. Thoughts? Thanks for the help!
I have a local reservoir near me not very pressured and lots of big fish in it and I use chatter baits and swim jigs catch a lot of fish on them could you most of the bottom is rocky or sandy what 3 jigs would you recommend to use there
Well said!
thanks so much. was just on TWH.com and wanted to get some jigs and gound out there was more than 2 types haha so this was much needed.
Can you recommend a good trailer color for a jig with green pumpkin/red/orange skirt strands?
I often fish shallower lakes that are loaded with jagged boulders and submerged wood. Any recommendations for jig head types?
Your videos are great!
When you're bank fishing a pond with a lot that lovely mushy grass muck towards the bottom. Which jig would you say be your best bet with finicky 'n stubborn bass?
got skunked today at a new pond..😒lol so glad u did this video. really help full..got jigs just haven't figured them out yet..couple of bits and dinkers...no good bites yet tho..but bout to apply some of the info I just picked up from this video tho..thx again for the gold bub..fish on!🎣👊
Finally a video I understand fully. I’ve watched so many different jig videos ... this one is by far the best . Thank you
Love your videos!!!
Good video Gene!
Thanks
What’s the best head style to throw around rip rap and rocky points?
Great video and very informative. Have one question though about line swivels with the clasp type clip. When used to attach bait to the line, they allow you to change out your bait quickly as opposed to having it tied directly to the line, but do they really cause fish to not strike your bait? Do they really scare away fish?
I don't think they scare them all the time but the do completely change the action of your bait and that's not always good.
Thanks!
I never thought it might change the action of the bait. On Texas rigs and other baits I will tie-on about a 2 foot leader to the bait/hook, and a loop at the other end. The loop end gets hooked into the swivel clip. I suppose the rig is free to rotate more than if it were simply tied on. Do you think that would also change the action of the bait? Thanks again!
Keep those video coming! They're great, so much good info!
Gene,
Another great informative video. A couple things as follow up to this one. What about the trailers? It sounded like in the football jig video you pretty much stick with a crawfish with either high or lower action? It the what you use for all of these?
Second I couldn't find that you have done one about how to skip a jig. That would be a great follow up in this series you have going.
wow i never knew all this!
This is kind of a random question but I'm going to ask it anyway. lol, If you had to pick between lake Oconee or Jackson Lake which would you fish and why?
Are casting jigs and grass jigs good to drag on soft bottoms, like in a pond?
Would you ever use a worm (stick bait) as a trailer or is it always going to be a creature trailer?
Thank you.
This video helps alot.
P.S. Do you still use jj's to make perch, baby bass, and sexy shad flukes. Or have you been using stock colors?
Yes I do. I'm waiting on the OK from JJ to do another video painting with JJ's. He had trouble keeping up with demand after the last one.
+Flukemaster
Cool, looking forward to that one.
Any any chance at doing one in pumpkinseed.
fluke man you make great videos you help me a lot and you give great tips keep the good stuff coming
I love your videos. Right down to earth for someone who is just learning to fish. Fellow Dawg fan here, so keep wearing those G hats ;)
One thing about this video though (somebody has probably already pointed this out). You go over the casting jig spiel twice, once at 1:55 and again at 2:06 after a cut. That intentional for clarity, or was it just an editing goof?
Keep up the awesome work though, man. Caught my first bass in Georgia the other day in the dead of winter using your football head technique.
I'm new to bass fishing this year and I have learned a lot about bass fishing from your videos. I really appreciate what your doing for us that aren't as experienced thank you
Damn your probably amazing at fishin now
real cool info, I need to check this video one or more two times
I Love your videos
Hey, Flukemaster! Just started fishing last year me and my wife are getting hooked on fishing. We've been watching your videos every day!
I found that an uni knot or even a slipknot does the trick with minimal to no grassy gunk on my jigs.
And let me tell ya that my pond has alot of grassy patches and nasty grassy gunk.
I call it primordial soup for laughs. Lol
I haven't gotten a bite yet with my jigs, i just started using them and i will use these tips to try and land a bass. Wish me luck.
I live in Dallas GA. What is a good lake around there
This is the second, recently, of your excellent videos, in which you once again use an economy of words to simplify and explain what you are seeking to do in an efficient manner....Wish I had discovered these some years back so that you might respond to my comments....I have done seminars and I really appreciate your ability to focus only on the necessary information.
what are some good jig trailers
Hey I was going to go pick up a no 8 tackle black out rid do you think that's a good starter rod I only have a 100 dollars cash so I don't have a big selection
Go with Duckett Ghost
+Flukemaster is there a difference between a bladed swim jig and chatterbait?
nice vid
So which type of jig would you use if you want that relative slow fall action?
Can you do a video on how to fish rivers
Flukemaster, I was wondering if you can fish achatterbait like a jig, and if it will still work. Could save alot of time retying lures.
You’ll probably get bit but the way the hook will lay on the ground will probably reduce the ability for a good hookset.
Flukemaster... makes sense, thanks...
Are rattles on jigs a must in stained water?
This is the video that got me to push subscribe!!!
Can you fish just the jig or do you have to have a trailer
SO the best Dang jig out there has a STICK OF DYNAMITE FOR A TRAILER!!!!!!
Gene, do you ever dip the skirt in clear JJ's or usually just the trailer if you dip a jig?
The whole thing... or as much as can fit in the bottle. The skirt will curl up at first but will straighten up as it dries.
+Flukemaster I'll have to give it a try, appreciate the videos as always.
you should try tricky phish baits as trailers like the scout or kilted scout
Thanks for all the great info!
have you fished lake lanier?
What are horizontal line ties used for??
I’ll be watching this over and over, fantastic information.
Good job on reading the comments and understanding what people didn't know, I remember the comment, keep up the good work
Can you a video on fishing rivers
I've been trying jigs for a while now. but after a half hour or so I lose my confidence. Thx Gene for breaking it down. Im gonna throw strickly my finesse jig on Saturday. your videos are awesome bud. Keep it going
Also... Do you think dipping the trailer in JJs be a good idea or no?
+BassinFishGall definitely, check out BamaBass and the new video they put up i think yesterday or the day before i believe and it talks about jjs magic
How can your tell if the jig sits up and the hook angle if it is in a package? @flukemaster
What's your rod and reel arsenal
So I got a question I have a really heavy blue and black jig it’s really heavy and seems to big for the average bass but maybe I’m wrong please let me know @flukemaster
thanks for the tips!
Gene how could you leave out the skipping jig?
I didn't. It's an Arkey head
+Flukemaster I know it your right man. Great job on the vids lately! Best bass fishing youtuber out there.
What kind of jig would you recommend for bank fishing?
So whats the difference between a bladed jig and chatterbait? Or are they pretty much the same thing?
Same thing. Chatterbait is a brand name that has become the common name. Bladed jig is what people call it when they don't want to call it a chatterbait.
Flukemaster thank you for your reply, love the videos by the way, really come a long way since i subbed
This video helped me a lot, thank you
I use the Weedless bass jigs for northern pike all the time
If you could only throw a jig in one season which would it be?
Winter
ive found some finesse jigs to cast pretty well on heavy rods and heavy line but thats only needed when youre around heavy cover but want that finesse presentation. but love this video! im about to start fishing jigs a whole lot so this video helped me out a lot. thank you!
Hey Gene. Whats the best jig to use when you are fishing waters with a muddy or mucky bottom?
Great content. I'm learning so much from your videos.
You should start your own subscription box. I'd subscribe.
Hey gene! I just signed up for the t shirt club! Super excited but I had one question.... If I was ever to need or want to cancel my subscription, how would I go about doing that, I didn't see anything on the site about it. If you could get back to me that would be great!
Thanks!
Football jig- cast and drag slowely. 1/4oz-3/8oz baitcasting setup.
Finesse jigs-1/4oz and less on spinning gear. Fished similarly as regular sized jigs. But fished a little slower. Bladed jigs fish like you would if you joined football jigs and spinnerbaits.
Glad to see you're back to doing educational videos! great video as I was confused before!
Thanks Clinton. I'm doing what I love. The VLogs will only come out when I make a cool trip or something.
So is a skipping jig is a casting jig?
Good stuff man. Thank you.
great video. i am just now getting into jig fishing and this is an enormous help! thanks gene!
what size of trolling motor do you have....i have a 17ft fish/ski..looking to put a 55# edge on it..may be you can do a video about trolling motor...👍👍
I have on 80lb ForeTrex
Do you have any videos on jig trailers?
Good advice but I caught 2 10 lb catfish and several bass around wood sticks with a bladed jig
The Bladed Jig. It Is The Same As A Chatterbait? Us That Your Interpretation Of A Chatterbait/Bladed Jig?
You're correct on that!
Football jigs are used to imitate bluegill as well... during a tournament at Toledo Bend we used football jigs to imitate the big bluegill that hang out with the bass at 20-25ft around deep docks. Cover every aspect of the technique if you're going to make a video about it, please.
That's nearly impossible without a huge video. Many presentations can be fished in so many ways that the possibilities are endless. Don't get mad at fluke.
you could always go and make your own videos.
Shut up Simon
Yes because we all want a 3 hour video on jigs. Next you should rip on him for not mentioning that bladed jigs are often branded as chatterbaits.
I see what you are saying Simon but you should have realized is that this videos wasn't about a technique so there was no need to cover every aspect of it. It was about the shape and design of the jig itself. Also your story is about a situation where you assumed that's what the bass thought your bait was. Unless a bass came up and told you that he bit it because he thought it was a bluegill, the only thing that you can be sure of is that he wanted to eat it for some reason. BTW Crawfish also live around rock piles.
is there difference in rubber skirt and hair skirt?
hair has more action In cold water
I am a huge UGA fan. We need to go fishing then go to a game!!!!!!
Best vid ever thanks!!
