    I am a 6th grade teacher. The other day one of students came to school after a few days at the beach. Her face was showing the signs of a severe sunburn: red and peeling. I told her I was going to give her the best advice she would ever get from me and that she would thank me years later: Use sunscreen daily and never allow yourself to burn again. Of course, I got that "look" that only middle schoolers can give, but I tried. Thanks for a great video covering many bases. Hope they listen!:)

      Carol A Carol, I know that look that middle schoolers give. I'm with 7th and 8th graders. I love how whatever they think comes flying out of their mouth...well, most of the time.

      You know what the trick is Vita? STAY OUT OF THE SUN!!! It's an evil orb of death that will cause nasty hyper-pigmentation and possible pre cancers/ skin cancers. I'm 52 years old and live in Florida. 40 years ago when all my friends were baking themselves in the sun using baby oil (Yes BABY OIL, no SPF for them, it slows the tan down) I was in the shade with sunscreen. Wow, what a difference in my skin now as opposed to some of the girls I've seen since. I look easily 10 years younger then they do. You guys have great self tanners available for that sunkissed look that we never had. Use those instead. 52 may seem far away to a 17 year old, but I promise you taking care of your skin now will make a huge difference in 40 years. Now go out there and have fun, and stay out of the sun! (or at least use SPF 50. LOL)

    • @stop08it
      @stop08it 7 років тому +8

      Sun exposure is healthy. I think it's very extreme and irresponsible to tell a 17 year old to stay out of the sun. Everything in moderation.

    • @bethgramkow7865
      @bethgramkow7865 7 років тому +3

      Vita Leandra just use lots of spf and wear a sun hat when possible. laying out in the sun is not good for every one.

    • @vitaleandra8584
      @vitaleandra8584 7 років тому +3

      Thanks everyone for your words of advice! In fairness I'm more than likely to have fun in the sun this summer, but I usually wear a baseball cap to shield my face and wear plenty of spf for my pale Irish skin! You are right though, staying out of the sun when possible is possibly best, and normally for me it's far too warm in full sun so I prefer to sit in dappled shade with a book☺️

    Im a 23 year old male, I've been watching your videos for a few years now! I use sunscreen religiously, use a vitamin c serum daily, and I've just started on Retin A. So hopefully I'll stay looking like this for a while haha *fingers crossed* Don't know if its too young, but hey cant hurt right?

      jackkmiller1 I think you may be a bit young to start on the retain a. Not totally sure but I think prolonged use can cause problems for some people, so I would wait until there are some signs of aging before starting on it. At least till your 30s

      jackkmiller1 this is a year old, but if you haven’t already try the powder from the ordinary and you can add and cocktail it with creams and serums. It’s a vitamin C serum. I’m 27 and I’m till not going to use a Retin A, to strong and I don’t think I need it yet. I use a lot of lower grad forms of retinol for now and will strengthen as I get older.

    I"ve used Retin A for years but often had to stop using it due to peeling and flaking skin. The tip I learned from you (and never heard from several different dermatologists) was to avoid using it on corners of my mouth, nose and eyes This has allowed me to gradually go up to the strongest strength of Retin-A, either using it every night or every other night, without any side effects Thank you, that tip made a world of difference.

      In seriously hope me being a good skincare addict since my teens has helped me. The only thing I never paid attention to until recently (27), is sunscreen. I know right? I don’t know I just didn’t but i use acids and low grade retinoids, toners, drums, oils. Foaming cleansers aren’t good for anyone at any age. I use vitamin C, Niacinamide, matrixl. I’m not kidding I’m obsessed with my skin and skincare. I don’t use silicone, fragrances, mineral oil.

      Yes, and when I was younger, I was very friendly with a girl who was 1/2 Spanish. People used to compare us all of the time and ask "Are you going to get as dark as your friend?" Hey - it was always like I wasn't as good because I had lighter skin. I am glad that I used sunscreen.

    Great video! I am forwarding to my daughter for sure. The only thing I would add is sunglasses! And stress the chest damage that occurs, I have so many friends with really awful alligator skin on their décolleté. And maybe little something about nutrition and hydration. Though that could be a whole separate video. I am a huge fan and fellow skin care junkie...I've been using sunscreen forever and retain a for 15 years since I turned 40 and it's really paid off. Now with your advice, I've been adding the timeless serums and what a huge difference that makes as well. Thanks for all the work and research you do and for keeping it reasonably affordable!

    I finally got my tretinoin cream, starting at .05%. My family doctor had no issue giving me an RX while I was there for something else, and I've heard you can walk into those drugstore clinics and ask for a prescription. I'll probably use this strength for the next year, and then bump up to .1%. Tip: Try the GoodRX app for the prescription - I got a 20gm tube for $36 at Walmart (reg $104)! Wonderful video, Angie! You've been a huge help with all the info and products you've shared!

    I love and appreciate this video so much. I am 32 and I just started thinking about anti-aging and really taking care of my skin. I have always moisturized because of my ethnicity, can't avoid it, but I never knew where to start when it cam to preventing the signs of aging. I was also taught that because of my dark skin tone that I didn't need sunscreen or simply it doesn't take all that but I am seeing now that those comments are simply not true. Because of you I am wearing sunscreen daily. I just started a very simple day and night routine, as well. Thank you so much for sharing your wisdom.

    Good video Angie, but don't forget exercise - very important for general health as well as skin health. You do need a sunscreen that lasts through an outdoor exercise though. My favorite "running" sunscreen is from Juice Beauty their sport SPF 30 sunscreen. I also sometimes add one of the powder sunscreens - Chantecaille has a good one that is also a bronzer, and also Colorescience has some good mineral powder sunscreens for touchups.

    Great video, Angie. I'm glad to hear you not pushing Retin A on 20-30 year olds for anti-aging. It is so harsh and requires real dedication. A retinoid or Retinol product will work just as well - maybe throwing in a lactic acid peel every so often. I know at our age once you are on Retin A, you will probably never stop using it unless you start to have issues like Brianna Stanko talked about and had to stop using it and I'm guessing she is in her early 40's (forgive me if I am way off). So god-willing we are looking at 20+ years of using it. Can't imagine starting in my 30's and using it daily for 40-50 years! 😄

    Hey Angie! I just wanna say thank you! I'm 39 (just last March) and started using a few things you had mentioned in some of your older videos that I ran across!! I am so, so sensitive to smells and have such a hard time finding skin care!! I am getting ready to start on the vitamin c you recommend (waiting for extra dropper bottles to come in the mail) and I have just introduced the retinol from over the counter!! But, I have noticed a huge difference just in the cleansers and lotions you recommend!!! I do have an salicylic acid lotion that I use and cera ve cleanser I also trade out in the morning for the moisturizing cleanser you recommend. Due to acne I have some scarring, dark spots and rough patches. Makeup application is smoother!! Since my skin is happier, it breaks out less and my pores love the witch hazel!! lol I am rambling, but cannot thank you enough!!! 💕💕

    A great serum I found for mornings (I'm 34) is by Schaf. It's a Canadian brand. It's their "radiance firming serum." It contains hyaluronic acid, vitamin C, niacinamide, & peptides. All the ingredients I was looking for in my morning routine. It's not cheap, but mid priced. It saves me though because I don't have to buy individual serums for all those ingredients. With Ordinary skincare, you could probably do better price wise, but I personally don't care for the texture of their products (i.e. - you don't use it if you don't enjoy using it right). So Schaf may be a good suggestion for 20/30s subs of your channel. Huge fan! Makeup wise we are the same, so basically I don't buy a foundation unless you reviewed it. Have a great day!

Chemical peels saved my skin and since then I've been a huge fan of taking care of my skin and using the best (but still affordable) products. Angie -- you speak the truth. But one other thing. NEVER SMOKE. Or if you are a smoker, STOP! It is not only bad for your heart and lungs, it will make you wrinkled. I have talked with her many times about the importance of wearing /getting into the habit of using sunscreen EVERY SINGLE DAY and to reapply every couple of hours especially when outside. I have tried purchasing many different types of sunscreen in the hopes that if she finds one she really like she will use it regularly. She is using it more than she did a year ago but still not as often as I know she should. Thank you for your video Angie! Just to share, I am over 30 and due to bad sugar control, I experience signs of aging of the skin, loss of elastin and collagen in my decollate area especially. For that reason, I balanced my blood sugar and internally I take Collagen and Silica. Also I just started using anti-aging products with peptides and stem cells. Next I want to try products with Epidermal Growth Factor. I'd love to get a toning device of some sort, but haven't decided on one.

      Transforming oily skin What is meant by "bad sugar control"? As in diabetes or just in general eating too much sugary foods?

    • @nutella5936
      @nutella5936 7 років тому +1

      Thanks for asking. I am sorry it doesn't sound clear. I will edit it. I've had Insulin Resistance and PCOS and at one point I was even told that I was pre-diabetic. The blood sugar is unbalanced in all three conditions. Too high, then too low, then too high again and so on. I came across a book called "Cortisol control and the beauty connection" by Shawn Talbott, Ph.D in which he writes about how excessive inflammation leads to accelerated skin damage and breakdown. Glycation ( a cellular damage by sugars) can lead to oxidation which in tern can lead to inflammation. It is a fascinating book. One thing that stuck with me was that apparently the natural collagen turnover can be managed by controlling oxidation, inflammation, glycation, and stress. The author gives advice on protecting collagen and rebuilding collagen and I've implemented that advice in my life. I hope this helps.

I am ecstatic and I will be purchasing more products from them in the very near future ..Thank you Angie! Love from Susan. Ps. I have never tanned in my life. I have taken care of my skin since the age of 10...yes. There were only 3 products in those days, Oil of Olay, Noxema, and Ponds and when I was old enough to know I wore sunscreen even in my home. A little story for you! My mother was dying in 2016 & I was driving home from the ICU. I was driving slowly bc I was crying...A police officer pulled me over bc he thought I was drinking. I don't drink btw. I gave him my ID and he thought it was fake (I will be 60 next month) He called me a kid..He yelled at me your just a kid. So he booked me and my dog into the police station for 5 hours.Finally he told me that I could leave but wanted 5 more pcs. of documentation & gave me 10 days to get it in.As tired as I was, when I left I said "Officer, even though this has been a very sad day for me, you made my day by thinking I was in my late 20,s. They all shook their heads and smiled bc they just couldn't believe it and said goodbye! So you see, it really is important to take care of your face, neck and décolletage! I truly believe in Vitamin A acid cream. I had numerous skin products at my disposal bc I was a Clinical Science Specialist calling on derms. When Vitamin A was launched, a dermatologist gave me 50 tubes of it. So even now I have boxes full of skin care products..But I have my favourites. And everyone responds to different emollients/products! So thank you for your channel! I don't buy a product unless you have covered it! You are my number one resource! With all of your experience & experiments, you should write a book! It would be a best seller. Thank you so very much once again! Susan 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 💖💖💖 🌹🌹🌹

      Wow, what a story. My mother was in ICU dying in 2016, as well. 2016 was a terrible year. I am sorry that the police officer wasn't nice at first, but I really would have liked to have gotten that compliment of him/her thinking that I was just a kid. I am a devoted person to Hot and Flashy now. I am using the products and I got $5.00 off, as well. I am thinking that a lot of high stress contributed to my aging in just a few years. I need to learn to cope with that. I also need to get back on the salmon kick.

    Hi Angie. I think that when a person gets in the teens they absolutely should start with skincare - morning and night, to prevent larger pores etc. Then get into anti-age steps at everyone individuals needs when you reach 20. Then the steps gets more and more after age. I myself started for two years ago at the age of 45 and that feels for me almost to late.. I have never ever used any creams, lotions - anything. Only sun protection, tho I have not been out in the sun so much either, so I have very, very little sun damage. I am at home indoors 99% of the day. I go out once a day and that is at midnight so I do not use sun protection ( I have many psychological disorders) Tho I think that because I have used a soap with lactic acid since I was little, have prevent my skin a bit from harm. But now I have so much to take care of and I am so happy that I started to watch YT 2015. But I have always have a big interest in Vitamins, Minerals and herbs. So I started at age 18 with supplements, and then also more in depth in herbs. I have never been into eating so much meat. I have been a vegetarian since I was 18 and a vegan since 5 years back.

    Thanks for this video Angie! I've been using tretinoin (0.025%) for about three years now (I'm 19) and I love it. It helps my acne and has really smoothed my skin. I don't use it every night, I like to switch between tretinoin and organic cold pressed rosehip seed oil (imagine nature's tretinoin but without the drying effects). I love watching your videos, my skin has improved so much since watching you! Hope you have a healthy and safe summer!

      Thanks for all the advice and great info on your channel. I really enjoyed the video. I'm in my late thirties and wanting to start getting more serious about anti-aging skincare. I did want to point out that for women in our 20-30s we may also be dealing with pregnancies and nursing. A number of the anti-aging treatments are not recommended for pregnant or nursing mothers (retinA and vit c creams). Talk with your OBGYN and dermatologist before starting any skincare treatments. Thanks again, Angie!

    I recently discovered your channel and I’m hooked. I just recently started looking into developing an anti aging routine as I’m approaching 40 and starting to see wrinkles pop up almost overnight. I was really curious and intrigued about retinol so I bought the one by Drunk Elephant that just came out. The first night I used it, I didn’t have any adverse reaction so I was encouraged. Unfortunately, I did the second application way too early- just two days later and now my skin is is on fire and looks 10 years older with my undereye area very wrinkly and puffy. I know there’s a lot of tips about retinol our there but I would love to see a video from you with tips on how to start on retinol if someone never used it and how to progress to stronger topicals such as retin A.

    I'll be 40 in July. I started skin care early but as a child and in my 20's I barely used sunscreen and I'm fair with light eyes. Ended up with Melanoma because of it. I am ridiculous now with my kids. People makes comments to me all the time about the large amounts of sunscreen on them. lol I don't care though. I want them to have amazing skin when they're my age and they're high risk because of my history.
    Also, I purchased the AG sunscreen because of you and I love it more than any other sunscreen I've ever tried on my face. And I have dry skin!

    • @lanternaBGD
      @lanternaBGD 7 років тому +2

      bnb0510: let ppl say whatever they want, you are doing the right thing. If you are fair most probably at least one kid is fair skin, let alone history with Melanoma! As per few dermatologist, the biggest damage to our skin is done until the age of 20 approximately. We want kids to be active so they are exposed to sun lots. Slap it on them and off they go:)))Hope Melanoma is in the (scary) past for you:))

      I'm sorry to hear about your Melanoma, but I'm happy you're taking your kids sun protection seriously! I think if we consistently apply it to our children as they grow up, it'll become 2nd nature, just like buckling their seat belts! Safety 1st!!

    I started a proper anti-aging skincare routine at the age of 31, after realising there was horrific hollowness under my eyes one day. I include sunscreen, AHA, BHA, kojic acid, glutathione, retinoid, toner, essence, vitamin C, hyaluronic acid, vitamin B5, peptides, facial oil, face cream, botox and filler, and sometimes laser in my skincare routine. I would say if you have the money, best start your anti-aging routine in your 20s, but for those with financial constrain, start after the age of 30 is still good. Also don't forget your diet. You should start in your 20s. What you put in your body plays a major role in slowing down the aging process of your organs and maintaining its function. I suggest multivitamin and mineral supplement, pre and probiotic, omega oil, and glucosamine supplement. And my favourite is drinking a shot of noni juice every day :)

    Ok...I am hoping maybe you clear this up for me, Angie. I agree that sunscreen is definitely one of the most important things you can use; however, since it needs to be reapplied every few hours, how do you put more on once your makeup is applied? I figure if anyone can answer this it would be you as you are very pro-sunscreen. I think it is wonderful that you are putting this info out there for the up and coming generations so they don't make the mistakes those of us who grew up when sun-worshipping and dark natural tans were glamorized.

    I'm almost 32, but I only started doing an anti-aging 'program' within the last 4 months. The past two years, I spent too much time in the sun without any sunscreen, and my face has significantly aged by looking at photos. Not only is my skin worse, more wrinkled, freckled/damaged, I have more fine lines and crepey under eyes. I started using sunscreen from a dermatologist, but I feel like it's too late to reverse the damage done. I also have always had nice cheekbones, but now they sort of sag, which you can definitely see in photos with no flash. I don't understand how I aged so quickly when I stayed out of the sun most of my life other than the past couple of years, but it's very depressing! I feel like I'm ready for a facelift right now. I started using botox several months ago to help with the fine lines on my forehead, and it made them go away, but I still feel like my face is just getting worse, especially the under eyes. How young is too young for facelifts and undereye surgery?

    • @AngieHotandFlashy
      @AngieHotandFlashy  7 років тому

      In my opinion you're too young to be considering surgery for aging issues. At 32 your skin is still young & fresh but is just starting to show a few signs of aging. I know it's not easy to see the signs of aging appear. You can't stop the clock but you can take care of your skin to help it look it's best for as long as possible. I'd recommend sticking with the sunscreen every day and starting a good skincare routine and try to appreciate the skin you have now because I'm sure it's not as bad as you think it is. xo ~angie

    Great video Angie! My thoughts are how do you know when to mix all these together? Or don't mix them together on your face. I'm so new to all of this stuff. I've had "wrinkles" seems forever, I've always made goofy faces, sun for sure, when I was young. Same thing with makeup, it's so foreign to me. I'm homebound due to illness and got into makeup on here and I'm lost about that too. I'm taking my time with that, I never had to use makeup before. Now there's so many things you have to do today. With the face, I'm so lost. Your videos do help. Thank you so much. Again, with these items how do I know if I need to put more then 1 item on my face at the same time, what to use at night time? So much to think about that I never had to think about before.

    Angie, a report came out about sunscreens (as they do every year) that really do and don't work. Although I don't remember which brands were where on the spectrum, I do remember Neutrogena didn't score so well but Aveeno did. I'll have to revisit it. I've also read that a company can put any number by the SPF and get away with it. Just thought I'd share this with you - maybe it's something you can learn more about and share with us. Get the chemist dad involved. He won't lead us astray.

      Hey Julie ! I am wondering which country you are referring to. I know that the US, EU and Japan(which makes my favorite sunscreens) all have different regulations as to which filters are approved and what can and cannot be advertised, but I cannot see this happening in the EU. There are very strict laws and regulations and I am sure that no company would risk it. Plus, everything has to be tested before being released to the market.
