Eldest.... Thank you for sharing your journey with your car and posting this heater core exchange! I am about to do the very same task, and your video removes the mystery and the fear!!
You're gonna lose coolant, pull the hoses at the firewall and drain it there. Blow out the heater core pipes with air, more coolant will come out. This way you spill less inside the car when you remove it. Center console video will be up next week.
@@ELDESTBuilds seats are out.. im . 6.4 210 lol with big hands lol back to ace for a. screw for the heater valve cable lol fun stuff console next~ woo hoo
I need to replace (or adjust) the fan and the condenser (fan is only running on full and makes noises). Your video is both super useful and highly intimidating to an amateur like me.😊 Is it possible to replace the fan and the condenser while the dashboard is still installed? I could not really tell from the video. Will need to disassemble the radio and center console because I am installing a new carpet. Hence I was wondering if I could just dig a bit deeper into the guts under the dash and do the fan as well. Taking the entire dashboard out is stretching my skills too far…
My dude, that was my first time. Everyone is an amateur the first time. The radio console and the center console are what needs to be removed to get to it. But check the fan switch on the console and make sure all the wires are connected. Could be simple. Check out the Interior electrical playlist for radio for more on the wiring side.
So I decided to go new core same as this one. Had a hell of a time getting the lower half of box to mate up to get the four corner clips on, finally removed the fan shroud from inside the heater box and was able to get it together. Just wondering if you had to do this also?
wow i just got the heater box, core and 4 clips back in.. yes i swore alot and wow i need lots of beers friday nite LOL I cant imagine the labor costs for working on these cars now LOL. they are so intricate with fasteners and how things go together lol were u able to get the 2 clips in the rear LOL LOL , all cables are working too! i replaced 1, cleaned and lubed all the doors .. when i removed the heater cores it had 12 inches of animal bedding in it LOL happy day in Chicago! lol
Trying to replace heater control valve today on 1981 fiat spider and broke one of the 1/4" studs holding the valve to the heater core. bypassed heater for now. Am I going to have to replace the heater core because of this little stud ? 😒😒
Stretch, yoga, hire a neighborhood kid, or take the entire interior out of the car. I still think they have a tiny person, bodybuilder type putting those parts in.
@@ELDESTBuilds So the problem ended up being that little plastic funnel insert between the fan and the core. I had to leave it off for the box to fit. Hope that doesn't cause me issues. The tabs on the sides of it line up perfectly with the ends of the old copper core, but this aluminum one is slightly wider. Not sure how you got it to go. Tried for an hour. BTW, any thoughts on this aluminum style core vs the reproduction copper ones Auto Ricambi sells? I went with the aluminum one like you. Seemed more modern and simple to me.
Can't tell you how many hours and headaches your videos have saved me on my 83 Pininfarina restoration. Thank You !!
You are welcome, enjoy your build. That heater core requires some unconventional bending to get under there.

It's been a while, I remember the drivers side not wanting to clip together. I may have removed the shroud to get it together.
I have done that job - ugh, it is one of the painful ones - especially getting all the cables routed back and working right.
Trying to figure out how to make all the switches match is killing me. The throws are not the same.

Probably so, too much risk of leaking
might as well try brazing on a new stud, got nothing to lose @@ELDESTBuilds
@bogilvie that's the spirit
Getting those 4 clips on has been one of the most difficult things I've done on this car.

Not really remembering how I got it all together. Probably hammer to fit and paint to match, off camera.
That aluminum core should outlast the car.
