I lived in Florida for 30 years. I never understood why people chose to stay first of all. I don't own a damn thing that is worth my life. Then the guy that said they didn't have enough time to gather their 'stuff'. No... leave your stupid stuff... get in your damn car and LEAVE.
I lived in Florida 40+ years, though I moved out last year. My family still lives there in central Florida. Your reaction is so overblown and feeds hysteria and hate for Floridians, perpetuates Florida man memes. In 40 years - basically 80% of my whole entire life, I lived primarily in Central Florida and was in NO danger. Only time was Charlie. It blew over. My apartment complex had a few shingles missing. I stayed for Charlie and it was the biggest risk but I needed to make sure I could get to my family’s business with ALL my family’s lifesavings invested in it. You better be sure I would GUARD that. You saying no amount of money is worth it? It’s a over exaggeration and a LIE. If homeless your family will not only die but die slow and painfully in these USA. No, I wouldn’t take that chance. I chose to protect my business. Because if destroyed, my whole family would have been homeless and destitute with likely no way to climb out of the massive business loans we undertook. And as soon as passed, I went to clean up the half inch of water or so. The damage I mitigated? Definitely was worth the risk of me staying there. You’re simply WRONG in my case. Let’s say 100 people will die from this. Out of the millions who chose to stay, the statical chances of most people dying in this? Likely similar to hitting a $10,000-$100,000 prize in a lottery. I guarantee millions of Floridians stayed behind and are fine. Your statements as all YT statements need so many caveats, and “but if’s.” If you live in Central Florida? 99.999% of time, no, you don’t need to get out. You’d likely have more chance of dying on the highway taking all your family members with ya on the mass exodus, squirming to find a rest area to pee than you would in the hurricane. If everybody left, chances are great you’d be stuck out on the highway and chances of you getting hit by the hurricane while in the car probably not too different than staying in your home. Instead of acting hysterical and buying all the bottled water and instant food and toilet paper(like latecomer New Yorker migrants who don’t even know how to drive in rain) and screaming sky’s gonna fall, look at it logically. If you’re not on the path there’s no reason to leave, and you’d just be contributing to the mass traffic congestion of those who should leave. The fact of the matter is the guy you’re complaining about LIVED, and didn’t use up all the gasoline in his car to contribute to CO2 to cause more global warming. Even though, yeah, he was in a place where he should have evacuated, clearly he meant path wasn’t supposed to hit him, but swerved last minute. You’re just being deliberately difficult to try to not understand. Just saying, lots of situations where evacuation isn’t necessary. People on comments don’t seem to realize. And not only Florida, but the whole world is now in more danger from weather. Look around. Dead fish in Europe, record 500 year drought, China drought, Somalians dying of hunger worst since probably Ethiopians in 80%. Russia fires larger than all forest fires in world combined, record flooding in Seoul, Korea, India too droughts. There is nowhere anymore that’s safe either. So all those people saying why would ya live in Florida, why would ya live where you’re at? Why would ya get out of bed? A falling plane could crash your roof and kill ya. It’s life.
@@adayexpired6370 why did you move?
Stop rebuilding in these flood zones. Nobody wants to insure these properties anymore but people keep moving to Florida

I used to live in Florida. Many people don't take the hurricane news seriously when they say to evacuate, because the majority of people there have been through a lot of hurricanes, including myself, and the news in the past has often made it sound worse than it would be. A lot of people have hurricane parties, since schools and businesses often close for stronger category hurricanes. I Hope this changes in the future so more lives are not lost.

Before the storm hit residents were telling reporters that they weren’t leaving and would ride out the storm. Obviously many just were stubborn and did not want to leave no matter what.
Maybe they do not want to take the effort to pack some items and get out. Maybe they don’t have money to do anything like stay at a distant motel!

All these islands are eventually going to be under ocean water, and you think they should let people still rebuild? Why?
Denial of climate science and climate change seems to be part of the overall American psyche.

My heart breaks for all Charlotte and Lee county residents. This is just devastating.

Made the choice to leave St. Pete late Monday night. This was clearly going to be a powerful and unpredictable storm, but state and local governments did a superb job in handling it all. Anyone who didn't leave the barrier islands or any coastal area didn't use their common sense on this one. Doesn't mean I don't have compassion for them.

I saw many residents braving the hurricane and ignoring calls from the government to go to shelters, I knew that the loss of life would be great.
No point in pointing fingers. Right now the focus is in recovery, clean up and reconstruction. Later comes lessons learned. That's all there is to do. Stay strong Florida 💪☀️

Living in FL during hurricane season is difficult. We've had storms where we've evacuated Miami just for it to change course and head right to where we went. We've stayed and had storms that werent intended for our path come our way. Our family has just adopted the practice of leaving as soon as a big storm is in the Caribbean & heading our way. Its stressful and expensive. Prayers for the families that lost loved ones.
That’s the smartest thing to do! I hope more people heed this advice. Even getting out with your life, you can still lose everything. 😞
I’m shocked that so many stayed in the surge zones. Official Lee Co evac orders were so late, but so many residents still knew it was aimed right at them and didn’t leave! I’m taking about people in super nice homes, with the resources to leave. The surge is what kills the most people.
I’m so sorry that your state going through this. I feel helpless to help. We plan to foster 1 or a few dogs rescued from Ian once they’re able to send them to TX. My poor husband has to put up w me, the crazy dog lady! I hope you have a good night.
Not that bad. Living in areas that guarantee damage and flooding during hurricanes makes it difficult.
I bought a nice condo surrounded by steel and concrete. Raised structure for tide surges if it even get that far inland.,push button shutters that cover impact resistant windows and surround balconies.

No, their attitudes are "I live in Florida, this is nothing". I've seen so many videos and tiktoks of people saying such.
As a Floridian I will answer this. We're so jaded by hurricanes that most of us would rather gamble our lives than have to evacuate, unless it's a cat 5. When you've evacuated 10 times to cramped uncomfortable shelters, came back, and nothing happened to your house and you just wasted a bunch of time and gas, eventually you stop taking it seriously. Obviously this is foolish but it's also human nature.
@@goombapizza6335 I think it depends where you live in Fl
Some homes inland are built high to prevent flooding.
My families hone has been through dozens of hurricanes and never flooded or lost 1 roof tile.
When Andrew hit we had tornadoes come through but they missed our street.
We have never evacuated.
However, if our home was on the coast we would leave. No if, ands, or buts. Better safe than sorry.
@@goombapizza6335 I get that. Ib would probably feel the same way. I'm sure it's a huge struggle.... do you spend the time and money to leave for nothing, or risk it being one you needed to leave for. Hard choices, I'm sure.
I live right here in Hurricane Alley in the Panhandle we are very fortunate that it did not come this way but my Lord I leave when there's a hurricane coming why not just leave why sit there and deal with the trauma of watching your whole neighborhood destroyed your home being destroyed and possibly you and your family dying just leave Drive 2 hours away stay in a hotel overnight or go to a friend's house. A lot of people moved down south Florida during the pandemic and have now lost everything .
Some cannot evacuate nor have the capability to evacuate. When they do, they sometimes end up right in the hurricane's path. Some people left the initial area of landfall (Tampa Bay area) to go to the Orlando area or further south. The track changes at the last minute.
Not everyone has the 2k plus to leave for hotels and food let alone travel costs.
And the Orlando area was also hit really hard with flooding. Sometimes it's just better to prepare as best you can and hunker down. Even the best predictors can be wrong.

If you’d listen to reasonable people, you’d know the climate is being ruined… living in places like Florida that push real estate over logic make no sense until you either build houses that can RUGGEDLY survive the damage ($$$$$) or simply MOVE.
These people that moved here they knew the danger they took the risk and sadly I don't feel for them. Disasters happen because people build in the paths of hurricanes. 100 years ago this beach was probably absent of any kind of infrastructure. I just want to re-read it to everybody here that climate change is pushing planet Earth to another mass extinction. Humans Humanity governments corporations have not listened to what the climate scientists have been warning us for the last 40 plus years. Carbon dioxide emissions that are emitted from the tailpipe of our cars Planes Trains buses ships military equipment burning of coal oil and natural gas in power plants are basically pushing so much carbon dioxide into the atmosphere it is overheating planet Earth. Humans are emitting 100 times the level of carbon dioxide then what occurred 55 million years ago during the Paley scene eocene thermal maximum that pushed planet Earth into a mass extinction. I'm a very rare Myers-Briggs intj baranona is The Mastermind and the architect and I have studied paleoclimatology I have evidence showing the effects of carbon dioxide emissions. All that data was extracted from thousands of deep ocean core samples that recorded paleo atmospheric conditions millions and millions and millions of years ago. Also in the Arctic, when planet Earth was overheating due to carbon dioxide emissions from volcanic activity, the total carbon emissions emitted was between three to seven trillion tons of carbon dioxide over a period of 5 to 10,000 years. That gave most tropical plant life time to migrate North into the Arctic. Scientists have found petrified evidence of a subspecies of the modern-day North American alligator in the Arctic. They found petrified evidence of tropical Palm fronds. They found other evidence of other tropical plant species. Based on the core samples extracted from the deep ocean exploration program they estimated that the Paleo atmospheric temperatures in the Arctic during the middle of winter we're roughly between 70 to 75° Fahrenheit. The temperature is at the equator reached 105° f. Anybody that's reading this I'm extremely serious I've researched this extremely in-depth I've researched climate change and interviewed briefly senior climate scientist. Some of them are actually quite famous because they have been in front of the camera telling the consequences of humanity that burning coil oil and natural gas has overheating planet Earth. Dr James Hansen The Godfather of the word global warming, in 1988 he sat before the United States Senate. He said that basically global warming has been detected and that planet Earth is overheating. Based on computer models which were off unfortunately by 30 years, he predicted that planet Earth would see an increase in more severe hurricanes, larger and more deadly and destructive flooding events, stronger and more intense heat waves and increasing Global drought. Scientists were unfortunately off by 30 years they predicted these events would occur summer around the 2050s. But based on some recent charts I discovered on NASA, the Earth especially the world's oceans started to overheat roughly around 1990 and especially in the year 2000. Ocean temperatures are on the rise and haven't been this way probably for millions and millions of years. Last year a record 17 * 10 to the 22nd Jewels heat energy that's j o l e s not jewels was absorbed in the world's oceans. That is equivalent of five Hiroshima thermal nuclear bombs per second. Every year that heat energy is going up. And it is causing the seriousness of climate change that is impacting humans across planet Earth. Humans are suffering from the effects of climate change. It is estimated that upwards of a billion humans will eventually die or be displaced and migrate North away from the equator
I've got some better recommendations for you and I know you will benefit from it daily I will be the one guiding you through all the process.

"whether authorities waited too long to order an evacuation"! Why would anyone rely on "authorities" to make life and death decisions for them? Anyone who built a home on Pine Island took a calculated risk doing so. Furthermore any of those home owners who could leave Pine Island and did not took a bigger risk.
It's the media all they do is point fingers at the political parties that's all they ever do. If they forced evacuations like they wanted, they would be going on about how low-income minorities were forced from their homes this and that

It's too bad that people died and others' lost homes. But people need to take personal responsibility for their decisions. Some could have evacuated earlier. What could looters possibly take that hasn't been ruined by salt water?
@@crismcdonough2804 Food, potable water, generators, etc. People are also being robbed because lot of ATMs are down and many places are cash only at the moment
They changed it into a category 5 now
"Personal responsibity" is the key phrase. When a hurricane is coming get the hell out !
Hoping for a speedy recovery and sorry for the loss for many families. In Puerto Rico we are still recovering from Fiona and so many had not fully recovered from Maria. God bless all.
$800 billion a year on defense, and in 6 days the army has not managed to bridge a 60' gap in the road.
I feel local authorities did what they can. Living here you have to be responsible. I understand it's not easy for everyone to find a place to go and many of us (including myself) have become complacent, but that still doesn't place fault on local government. They can't go to every residence removing occupants. Our local law enforcement drove around with loudspeakers announcing mandatory evacuation for flood zones well before the hurricane was to arrive.
I've got some better recommendations for you and I know you will benefit from it daily I will be the one guiding you through all the process.
People need to stop building so close to the coastline as it’s inevitable their “homes” will become inundated.
People need to stop arm chair quarterbacking disasters. maybe worry about your own actions.

@hi ho
Then go back to Slums of Europe and leave the World alone!
Too late, he didn't and doesn't. Natural disasters kill innocent people constantly. Including babies.
Thoughts & prayers, as usual. Does NOTHING.
People stayed because of the high gas prices, high Entergy costs, sky high rent, and record high food costs. Its expensive to evacuate, and people are already struggling due to inflation.
This is so heartbreaking to see, I pray for everyone and hope they are able to recover 🥰
I pray that they're grateful to our president for not turning his back on them. They just got hit with billions of dollars of damage yet they just spent millions of dollars to make the lives of immigrant families more difficult just a few weeks ago my how the tables turn
No one canblame anyone it was mother nature not man

They have to change things as storms are just going to get worse. And people are going to have to face a harsh reality of having everything you own wiped away by a hurricane every few years or move
Heartbreaking
My mom's cousin lives in Cape Coral. There were warnings a week in advance. We told him to pack up and leave, but he said that he always stays in his home during a hurricane. We couldn't convince him, by visiting him, because we live in California.. Now he is complaining about not having any electricity. He would have had electricity if he would have stayed in a motel, or with family, which live in Miami.... 🤷🏻♀️
Good luck to everyone impacted 🙏🏾✌🏾
Did the guy send busses around to transport the poor.
Audrey, He probably didn't. DeSantis' cabinet doesn't look very diverse, either, but I'm glad he protected people's jobs during covid.
Crazy! Poor people who lost their lives.❤😔
This is just heart breaking 💔
Over 1 thousand dead
Everyone knew this storm was coming, even Texas had their eye on the storm !
To those who lost their lives, let's have a moment of silence in remembrance of them and their families as well !!🙏🙏🙏
Prayers for the people of Florida, who going through the flooding.

The emojis help tremendously. Thank you for that
We have our family in USA, Arkansas, little rock.
They passed through this type of horrible weather.
Our family passed a very hard time where they lost all.
We would pray for all the family in such a distress and may God bless them and give them courage.
Long live 🇺🇸
I do feel sad over the loss of lives and the families displaced. Not everyone has the means to run and afford to stay somewhere. After Andrew and Katrina, you would think people that could would have listened and evacuated.
Always looking for someone to blame. Blame the weather channel. 🙄
I feel so spoiled being in Southern California at least for it's weather. That's terrible and I can't imagine what some people lost after spending their entire life building it.
Your sitting on a fault line, about to run out of water right before you might have to make a decision of your kids baby pics or the dog before your house burns down. Enjoys that great weather.
@@whiteheart6827 California isn't perfect nor did I say that. Your right about the fault line and water....but the weather. You quite literally can't beat it. There's only a few spots in the world with our climate
Why is anyone surprised? Andrew in 1992; hurricanes have been sweeping across Florida since time immemorial. It is part and parcel of coastal living.
When a storm is this big there is no place to go.
Hunker down or move is the rule now.
