Driving home from work around 6pm, it was slightly cloudy yet bright and suddenly the sky turned pitch black as if it was midnight, it started to rain hard, the tornado warning notification screaming from my phone then really strong winds which moved my car side to side and a yield sign hit a truck near me. It was so sudden.
Be safe & my prayers.
I fell asleep 😴 💤 😪 😩 😕 😫
This isn't normal

Those "concrete canyons" just funnel the wind and increase the velocity!
Fool.
Incorrect they actually decrease velocity due to the drag coefficient as the air moves across wide surfaces ...]also most of these " high rise" window breaks are far too sparse and sporadic for it to be accurately be caused by any actual wind event and more often than not are intentionally broken from the inside out rather than the outside in just in attempts to defraud insurance claims esp after the " media" hypes the garbage up ...
Venturi effect.
" concrete canyons " well said, we humans just frantically build ,build in the name of progress underestimating the consequences!

@@johannageisel5390 😂 wait till summer heatwave starts 😂
Actually I can comment factually here. I worked in one of those buildings during Allison..it was the flying debris that broke the windows.
As someone that has worked in construction in downtown Chicago, I have concerns about their building standards there. Many of those windows in that skyscraper look like they were blown out not broken out. I know some construction companies cut corners in the south, but something like that shouldn't even happen in a tornado.
Increasingly marginal building standards everywhere, and these "luxury" condo towers are complete crap inside and out.
Very good point. For that many panes to blow out it shows poor and substandard installation.
Substandard install is completely obvious. Builders, glaziers responsibility
I agree Texas has abizimal building codes. I am horrified at much of the shoddy construction.
@@batcactus6046 Houston isn’t “luxury condo towers”. Those are skyscrapers from the ‘80s and this wasn’t just your average winds. The records show 100mph+, but the urban canyon effect likely made them much higher. Y’all should really just STFU since it’s clear you have no idea what you’re talking about

That car video is from last week.
Your right. Thought it look familiar.
Yes and it was in College Station
@tomaslopez2940 so not even Texas?
@@showusjustice523 College Station is in Texas, about 90 miles north-ish of Houston.
@@kristinmudra8553 okay, I knew there was one in GA. I wasn't sure if there was more. I figured there was though, but thanks.
Poor folks what a mess, bless those who were lost.
It was a Derecho. I survived the one in 2020 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. I'm now an hour north of Houston and luckily, we didn't get any damage.
I think you are right! I was at a drive thru when it rolled in. You could see the black clouds coming and then all heck broke loose. I thought my car was going to flip over. Everyone was freaking out and honking their horns trying to escape. Trees and road construction barriers were blown everywhere blocking the streets. The high wind only lasted 10 minutes and then it just rained for 30 minutes. We are still without power in my neighborhood.
I've never heard of a derecho.
I am ALL TOO FAMILIAR with El Derechos!!: Suffered through one several years ago in Covington, VA., we were without power in terrible June/July heat for six days!! 😱😱😱
@@lisab9541 That's just a cholo word for extreme thunderstorms with high winds. Just more made up sh!t like they always do.
@@lisab9541 Not shading you at ALL, but *please* google "derecho storm" and get ready for some crazy videos, because they do not disappoint! I used to hear about them from family in Kansas. Now I know why.
Sorry, but by almost any metric, this was a hurricane force storm. The only difference is that it didn't come off of the gulf...
It was a tornado in a storm cell. You weren't physically here to see the rain and trees go completely sideways.
Derecho baby 👍

Yes. He dropped off his daughters and is on the way back; with his ugly wife.
😂😂😂 either that or he fled back home to Canada since that’s where he was born, ol Canadian Cruz is what I usually call him masquerading as a real Texan 😂😂
No worries. They used a storm divider machine that splits the storm where aimed. Downside is more velocity in the left over storm. Thank God he's ok. The peasants who survive I'm sure are thankful too.
Y'know I have to say that I don't remember in my 63 years on this planet, a downtown core be smashed by a non hurricane event. Looks like the future they predicted is now.
Yep. This is the new normal.
Yup climate change is real
Weather control wars
I don't remember in my 73 years so many solid glass skyscrapers so close together, not to mention they increase the velocity of winds downtown.
@@batcactus6046 How many of your 73 years have building had solid glass like that? Genuinely curious
More than the windows is the air pressure. During the typhoons on Guam we leave one window cracked open to balance the pressure or else the windows will pop outward
Yeah, people in areas withour heavy weather dont know these things. People in Florida definitely do.
Maybe the geniuses designed them so they couldn't be opened.
@@peterkilbridge6523 this sounds more like it. I mean I'm dealing with one house also not 50 floors haha.
Downtown always get's fucked by hurricanes and tornadoes. It's nothing new. Everywhere else is what's really the problem.
Exactly. I can't believe the reporter attributed the breakage to flying metal.
The Mayor just said stay at home and the anchor woman asked is it closed down. lol
Mostly non-essential employees have to stay home so it's not shut down. Our company have essential employees and they are working DT day and night.

@@leifpeterson4850 it means that hurricane season is on the way. Ocean temps in gulf and atlantic ocean are WAYYYY above normal.....water temps in May are more like what we see in July-September. Add onto that, we're going out of an EL-Nino, quickly into a La-Nina right at the start of hurricane season - La-Nina conditions lessen the winds that shear the tops off hurricanes. So that being said, - with MUCH warmer than usual ocean temps (fuel for hurricanes), and a La-Nina weather - less wind in the upper atmosphere to tear hurricanes apart....................hurricane season 2024...................will become hyper-active, AND the high pressure system that sits out over the Atlantic near the Azores is supposed to creep closer to Bermuda this summer and fall, steering a lot of hurricanes right into the Atlantic coastline and up the coast as well as into the gulf. It's supposed to be the worst hurricane season that any of us have ever seen now due to global warming.
@@leifpeterson4850 Keep an eye on the volcanoes and earthquakes across the globe.
He just said don't go downtown due to down trees and hot electrical lines. Daft newscaster asks, "well are places open?" 🤦♂️ put your active listening hat on if you're going to engage with interviewers in the field.
That's too complicated.
Hate it when anchors ask such incredibly stupid questions. The mayor says stay away and the anchor ask if downtown is shut down. Moronic.
They don't listen. They just run their mouths.
That clip of the black car in the flooded parking lot is from 2 weeks ago, so I'm surprised that they included it. It was a young girl who ended up climbing a pole and had to be rescued.

First of all he's right. Look at his sleeves. I'm surprised his arms have any circulation left! lol.. but yeah..: It's not his health or body shape, the fact he works out etc. It's the fact he looks ridiculous in such a skin tight shirt, let alone whether or not it's appropriate as a reporter to dress like this for televised reporting. My husband and I always laugh about all the different weather girls we watch on streaming channels/local news etc about how they look more like they're dressed for going to a club, not presenting news to the nation.
* i mean... if you wanna dress like a hooker that's your business but to talk about a severe storm over the next few days while your dress is so tight you can barely breathe let alone you can't do more than stand, is not right. So this dude falls into that category. He looks more like he belongs in a gay man's bar in New York....
I remember a hurricane in 1983 that did similar damage to office buildings, some under construction. Unsecured materials in those buildings made it into a glass and steel vortex with debris blowing right through buildings. Luckily I was back in Austin after spending a couple of weeks in Houston.
I was in Houston. It was hurricane Alicia.

The video of car driving in water is from another storm.
Oh my. I've seen those checkerboard hi rise windows blown out before in downtown Nashville 1998 when a tornado ripped thru. Lotta damage in one afternoon.
Boston had it in 1980 and it wasn't anything to do with weather, I think it was an issue with putty in the then new John Hancock building that caused hundreds of panes of glass to fall out.
Yep, that putty can be very dangerous. Beware of putty.
Bro those sleeves though. Dude is too much

They also said there's no electricity so how are they going to fix it? I don't get it!

Texass is used to not having power. Hot Wheels Abbott and his grifting pals will rake in another small fortune again off of taxpayers backs.
The windows were blown out, not broken by metal. Jeez!
Those parking lot gate arms are most important! Because, heaven forbid, we wouldn't want anyone to get free parking!
Reminds me of Hurricane Alicia blowing through H-Town in 1983... Downtown Houston looked very similar then with windows blown out.
Holy crap. Poor lady. I hope your ok sweetie❤

I lived in Houston twice and stayed in Beaumont that weather down there is crazy
All that damage and not one video, anywhere of the storm moving through.
It was quick. It popped up on us and then moved out in 20-30 minutes. It got across the entire Houston area in less than an hour.
No CCTV footage, amazing huh! News media censor everything these days.

No live video of the storm....
The damage downtown was NOTHING. 1000's of trees big and small up-rooted all over town... many falling on power lines and houses and cars. Something like 1,000,000 homes and businesses without power in a matter of minutes. (The entire wind storm only lasted about 10 minutes but did millions in damage.) Almost NO rain... so no flooding or anything like that. Just trees down, windows blown out, roofs blown off, etc.
It was a crazy fast storm
There was definitely rain. At least out here in West Houston.
