There is a fair bit of retained coffee grinds in the grinder outlet after every cup. That means on your next cup there is some old coffee from the last grind. If I go more than one day between cups, I make a sacrificial small cup to get rid of the retained grinds. Then the next cup is pure freshly ground. If you use the machine through the day this is not so important.
