Quick announcement for a fun Catan tournament we will host this upcoming weekend (July 18th/19th). We will host the second edition of the KOC Championship Series, which is a 2-day event. You play 3 games on the Saturday and if you perform well on the Saturday, you can also play the semi-finals on the Sunday.

Hawkeye was a bit too greedy. Taking the lead early on with a 2 points advantage, can have unpleasant repercussions in a 4-player game!

Hey there, loving the high level content. I think we as viewers desperately need an overlay which shows everyone's resource cards at all times. Have you watched poker without hole cards? It's nearly unwatchable. If you don't want to put in the work to edit in the player's resource cards, I can do it. Send the video to me before you commentate. I can overlay the resource cards. Then send back to you to commentate and upload to your channel. I'm just keen to see a key piece of the puzzle for viewers be filled

@@Treeckosaurus One idea if you just see the gameplay from one player is to track each card as it's drawn from the bank/spent and use that information to update each person's hand. But the issue with this is that when someone steals a card, it isn't visible to the rest of the players.
Well, the most recent CU patch created that option (unfortunately for the gameplay), but yeah that's an option
@@Treeckosaurus awesome! Just added you. I'm Ryan in Cayman. Yeah I figured I'd be able to deduce almost 100% of the cards by tracking people's spending throughout the entire video. So only need 1 persons video.
Love the videos! Some quick tips for improvement. 1) A slightly better microphone for your stream would go a long way. 2) While I appreciate the raw stream video, it would be nice to have a 20-25 minute summary video of the game with jumps to critical moments instead. It frequently feels like you are talking just to fill time rather than to provide extra insight. Excited to see more content from you!
Hey Christopher! Thanks for the feedback. The microphone has been taken care, for the next few videos you won't notice the difference, because they will be old-mic footage. Interesting suggestion. I guess that's a downside of using the live-streamed footage and editing it to UA-cam-content. I will think about how I can balance it out. Thanks!
Great commentary, really enjoy watching the games on the Catan Universe platform as well. By far the best visual layout to follow. Keep up the excellent work with KOC and the tournaments. Only a matter of time before the e-sports vision becomes a reality.

As a novice at Catan though, I would like to ask about these surreptitious trades options you seem to reference. Seems you are implying that players tell others: "Hey I am going to place my settlement here and thwart you unless you give me X," or "I am going to place the robber on your tile unless you give me X." I certainly understand the logic behind it, but I imagine there are no enforcement methods for those "trades" under the rules. So are those sorts of things done under scouts honor with the hope that you have not destroyed goodwill going forward?

The extortion-trades are weird. As first I saw them as a threat as well, so I ran a poll in King of Catan and the outcome was that the majority of players is fine with it, so it's allowed.
I wouldn't do it against casual players, but KOC's community is for the competitive players, so I guess it matters a lot less here (in terms of destroying goodwill).
@@Treeckosaurus Thanks for your quick reply. I may not have worded my question quite right after having a few drinks last night. My real question is: what keeps the player who agrees to give X in exchange for not having a robber placed on them refuse to actually give over X after the other player has already placed the robber elsewhere. This is especially relevant during online play since you can't physically trade before you've rolled the dice (at least not on colonist to my knowledge).
Perhaps you did answer the question by stating these players are part of a community so they would become known for not honoring an "extortion-trade" (nice term by the way). I bring all this up because most of my games are played with a group of friends/acquaintances and I would be intrigued with using this concept with them, but it seems again you are relying on scouts honor, especially in the world of online-due-to-pandemic Catan.
Yep, you rely on the others not lying to you. In King of Catan, you know you will play the others again, so lying may hurt you for you multiple games instead of just this one. But you're correct, you rely on scouts honor.
@@Treeckosaurus I guess they are also hard to "ban". You don't need to explicitly formulate the extortion in order to get your point across. If you just punish any failed trade, it's also clear to the other player why you do it and it's totally in your freedom. I think in general things like this should be allowed, you should also be able to say or promise whatever you want - no one has to believe you. Almost all soft/social regulations in a game are super hard to implement. Also, you're playing a game against eachother not with eachother - fairplay is not a mandate.
