@@Treeckosaurus The game is indeed addictive, but me and my friends can't go back from cities and knights and the bigger boards, when I play catan online and get thrown into a classic game, I almost never enjoyed it 😅 even when I know all the strats. Just continue with your journey 🙏
Agree 100%, I think mono is too OverPowered in Base. Probably everyone relates to this feeling of “this will be a win”, when you draw it from the deck. Base also runs way much more around the Dice, while CaK is more of Turn-decision-based game. But anyway Base will always be the “gold standart” of Catan so it makes sense to push it beyond it’s limits ;)
For position 7, I was torn between between the two choices, but eventually settled on the same one as you. My main two reasons were to block the placement of P1 and also to take advantage of the brick port. I think the value of the double 6 brick combined with the brick port is very high in this situation, especially as the production on that position is higher. However, part of my brain was telling me that I was just overthinking it and to go with the obvious choice to have a bit of every resource with different numbers... And they did win the world championship, so who can really argue with them?
Yeah, exactly haha! Both options seem fine, and placements aren't the only important decisions to take through a game. I feel like [the winner] made good mid-game decisions, like taking the Longest Road.
I would also pick your 6-3-11 option, but maybe even build the road down. 3-10-11 should not be taken as red needs the 6-3 desperately, so that could be the first expansion spot. Afterwards go for the 9-12. Thats the perfect setup for a strong longest road game with good citying potential. Even the 4-5-11 could be open as 5th settlement spot
For last position, the 8 wood 4 3 spot is superior to the 8 wheat 4 3 spot. It pairs better with the 5 9 10. You keep that side of the board to yourself making longest road easier.
If I was purple I would have put 7 at the 11-3-6 because i would get a free road to 10 3 11 anyways and could have built the next settlement there edit: you agreed and said it too haha - different reasoning though
ah right. I was thinking: put the road towards the brick-port, because you risk Red placing his last settlement on the 9/12. The 6/3 would be better, but the 9/12 might be interesting because of the 3:1 port
No chance for red to win this with 9-12, thats just too weak with this competition. I don’t think that this Option really needs to be considered when playing with top players
The ones I heavily prepared I will turn into videos later. Some of the classes don't require preparation which I may have recorded and I might turn them into videos as well. Other are lost in time to make it sound dramatic haha

I can't get warm with catan without seafarers and cities and knights. The normal catan game is far too dull, unrandomized and is unbalanced sadly.

There's an argument for pointing left indeed. I would point up to brick-port, because you risk 8th position taking the 9/12 instead of the 6/3

Yeah, I agree with you. I most likely would not have gone with the set-up 4th position went with. It's a little 'too much of everything'
As you mentioned in the video, thats kind of a defensive placement. Pink or purple just get too strong with the 8-4-3

Definitely did not expect purple winning after that start. Would have thought they were completely boned.
Purple was able to win the race to the wood-port, as well as getting the 8/10, so that's why the flexibility was still there.

I’d say fourth place has the best setup. Others have had to sacrifice high production for getting their resources and/or to outmaneuver one another.
