This is exceptionally well done, thank you! You took care of a few questions I had and a few more I didn’t have yet. Thanks again;
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for the encouragement
I did not know about the plane tote templates- thank you for highlighting them. And thanks to Lee Valley for making them available. I'll get on to restoring both my #4 and #5 planes, as both totes are broken. Many thanks!!
You’re welcome! It’s an awesome resource
How does one increase the size to a full-size so it can be copied on wood? Thanks for the information.
It’s hard not to rush a project you are really excited about! Nice job.
So true! Thanks babe
I just bought an old #8 Stanley with a broken tote. This video showed me how to make a new one. I never knew Lee Valley provided free schematics. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful! I just happened to stumble on them one day.
So addicting watching the wood go through the band saw!
Isn’t it? Oddly satisfying
Nice video, I'll be making a tote soon as well. The music is bit loud, I was having trouble hearing you.
Thanks! I’ve pulled the music down a lot since then
@@YouCanMakeThisToo I wish you could update a video and retain views and comments. Keep up the good work.
Me too!
Did I miss the money shot of the finished tote?
I might've forgot to record and put it in... that's happened a few times.
Great work, I need to do something to salvage my Bedrock #5 handle, she split along the grain, but it is the original rosewood so I don't really want to build a new one.
Thanks for the end screen link! I owe you one :)
For sure! I bet you can dowel it or something to save it. Unfortunately there was no saving the tote on this one.
Nice project so far. I’m looking forward to the next video.
Quick tip-you should put some wood planks on the inside of your vise. I have the same vise, and it holds much better if it’s compressed in between two pieces of wood; I used 1/2 in birch plywood scraps.
Thanks! Good idea on the wood in the vice.
Your background music is to loud, but the tote looks good.
Nice process, Caleb! Glad you were able to fix that blowout with some epoxy.
Thanks, Bruce! Me too. That was a really “doah” moment.
great job, like how you showed your process and mistakes...those are the same type we all make and it's really helpful to see how you handle them (pun intended)!
Haha! Great pun, I love it. Most of my mistakes come down to just stupid stuff like that, not thinking something through first.
yes, the order of operations is where I usually screw up when i'm rushing which is to say most of the time!
Did you miss the part on the template that shows you how to orient the grain properly? Worth a mention in the video. It's important for strength.
My alignment was off some so I could get two handles out of the same blank, but I'm confident it'll still be strong enough.
It looked as if you had it nailed but thought it was worth mentioning. At the price of exotic woods, it's worth doing a little jiggle to get the best bang for the buck.
Ah I getcha now! Yeah, I should have mentioned that, you’re right. It is a bit of key info.
As always fantastic job. Thanks
Thank you!
nice man!
Thanks, James!
Nice job and gorgeous music !!
Many thanks!!
Nice job.
Thank you, Gunther!
It looks nice. Do you make any videos without the background “music”? Arrrggg
Pretty much all my videos the last 2 years aren’t done in that style anymore.
This was helpful. I bought a #4 plane for $5 and it's missing just the tote and knob. Time to clean it up and put that scrap wood to use.
There you go! Good plan
I feel like almost daily I find more reasons to get a band saw..... haha
You'll use it all the time.
Couldn't find it on their website. Anybody else have that problem too?
I just checked and it looks like they redesigned their website and it's not there anymore, or at least doesn't come up in search.

Quick tip, don't buy exotic woods unless you're cool with illegal logging.
It has been for me
