Unfortunately Pippen is not a closer, when Wallace and Smith who were carrying the scoring load went cold in the fourth quarter of game seven Pippen should have taken over but he failed to do so. He was hoping Wallace and Smith would finish the job.
Ah yes. I was wondering when my favorite NBA team would be covered. And you picked the best incarnation of Blazers! Clara writing and presenting is just a bonus. EDIT: My personal favorite Jail Blazers moment was when the team started ejecting fans holding signs critical of the team. This came to a head when a woman publicly complained to the media after getting tossed for carrying a "trade Whitsitt" sign. Next few home games, there were waves of "Trade Whitsitt" signs. Also, speaking of Whitsitt During this period, media had questioned him about possible chemistry issues with the team. His response? "I never studied chemistry in college".
The team of my childhood. This is how you know you really love the game when your home team is a trainwreck and you still beg for cheapseat tickets every birthday and christmas lol
On the other hand, people used to stage actual train wrecks at state fairs for entertainment, and they were very popular, so it's not as if that doesn't have its own well-documented appeal. :)
Say what you want about Pippin’s antics throughout his career, him sitting on the floor pouting is the most dignified thing he’s done. Honestly he lives reasonably close to me and so I see him in town from time to time and maybe age has mellowed him but he’s the nicest guy. Just don’t make a big scene about it and he’ll happily chat for a moment with a fan. And he’s really tall. Deceptively so…
Talent is nothing without leadership. You find talent with leadership. What an era. I think Rider may have been the official start of the Jail Blazer era. But, the '00 WCF is def. the turning point. How glaring the behavior becomes when a team isn't winning. Awesome vid!
Argh... The Lakers in the early 2000s. Those two free trips to the Finals that the NBA offered them. Really those series against the Blazers and the Kings were really what made them the antagonist of the era - to me at least - and probably what made that Pistons blowout in 2004 even more tasty.
Yuppers Samaki Walker made a half court 3 after the buzzer at halftime that shouldnt have counted But what do they always show?? The brick back tap to Horry for the win
I’ll never forget Portland blowing that lead in Game 7 vs the Lakers. They had a perfect team and was super deep. They just imploded down the stretch. Once Kobe threw that legendary alley to Shaq I knew it was over
They got cheated in that gamA. a former ref already admitted that game 7 and the Sacramento vs Lakers series were fixed for the Lakers to win. I watched that game and thought the same thing.
The Thuggets of the late 2000s would be a fun topic too, similar to the Jail Blazers. That squad with AI, Melo, KMart, JR Smith, Dahntay Jones, and more was hella entertaining and pretty good as well.
Two deep (Shaq/Kobe) vs Too deep (Portland). That 2000 Blazers team scared me more than the 2002 Kings. I never felt like at our best we'd lose to Sac, but Portland was absolutely good enough to beat us and win the title. But Blazers went Blazers at THE most important time. And they were never the same after.
Portland had like half the league’s talent on their team back then. Unbelievably, they actually did have way too many all-stars. No one could successfully coach all those egos.
Agreed. For a team that was supposed to be built around Sheed, they sure didn’t get anyone who actually were used to being in secondary roles. They would never going to work.
Everyone likes to joke about the Jail Blazers but they had some legit squads before things imploded. Great veteran teams that were in the top of the west consistently. Sheed was dominant in the paint. Still think they got robbed vs the Lakers, around the same time the Kings did. Fun times back then

I really enjoy this Collapse series
Hopefully we'll get ones on the the '85 Chicago Bears & the 2010/11 Texas Rangers
Keep up the good work guys 👍🏽
10/11 Rangers collapse would be amazing. Took absolute devil magic to keep them from winning
The 1985 Bears would really be nice. That Ditka-Ryan feud too would also be nice to put in a separate episode on Beef History.
@@MKISports Or McMahon-Rozelle
Hopefully a man can do the next one because women shouldn't be talking about sports💯

I’ve been waiting for this all day, happy this is out!
Pippen was suppose to be the championship winning veteran presence to get them over the hump. I totally forgot about Ruben Patterson aka THE KOBE STOPPER
😆😆 I remember that Kobe stopper nonsense. Great way to try to keep his job
Pippen didn't bring Batman😜
Unfortunately Pippen is not a closer, when Wallace and Smith who were carrying the scoring load went cold in the fourth quarter of game seven Pippen should have taken over but he failed to do so. He was hoping Wallace and Smith would finish the job.
@@Samito07 That's when robin missed his batman. Scottie could carry the team but so far
Deceptively so…
Not a nice guy. A phony
He’s known as No tippin Pippen for a reason
Marcus and Larsa and him just laugh and laugh
I’m sure we all can agree if Lakers lost that 3peat would’ve never happened the team might’ve been broken up and collapsed like the Blazers
If Sabonis was able to come to the team in his prime, I'm convinced they couldve built an incredible team that would've won a chip or two.
This is the comment this is the one
Sees Secret Base doing a Jail Blazers episode.
Me: Cries in Portland...
Excellent insights on this post. 2004 was a dream come true.
Blazers blew that series..
Yuppers
Samaki Walker made a half court 3 after the buzzer at halftime that shouldnt have counted
But what do they always show??
The brick back tap to Horry for the win
You forgot TD with the Spurs.
Duncan slain them in a great manner in 2003, and stopped their streak.
@1-800-Wavy and that's ok
My younger brother who's a big trail blazers fans always told me about the jail blazers, I'm glad to be able to dive deep into the topic
Sabonis and Ray Liotta looked so similar to me in their 20's/30's
Thats so true
BOTH TEAMS PLAYED HARD
Why is this not at the top
Yeah, bola presa, man
As a Portland native and lifeline Blazer fan - this brings back all the painful feelings 😭😭😭
😂
"Too much talent can actually be a bad thing" 18:25
Why did I get visions of this years Lakers team?
I’ll never forget Portland blowing that lead in Game 7 vs the Lakers. They had a perfect team and was super deep. They just imploded down the stretch. Once Kobe threw that legendary alley to Shaq I knew it was over
The refs had a lot to do with it.
@@fattyheadness 🤣
They got cheated in that gamA. a former ref already admitted that game 7 and the Sacramento vs Lakers series were fixed for the Lakers to win. I watched that game and thought the same thing.
Thank you for this series cause I was not paying attention to the NBA back then, still not was of 2022, but I love sports history.
As soon as i saw Rasheed Wallace on the thumbnail, i knew this was gonna be a classic. #BallDontLie
Every video Clara makes is 🔥🔥🔥 one of my favorites on the channel for sure
Can we do the rockets under Mike D'antoni and James Harden? Been looking for that video
the mid 2000s diamondbacks would be a fun collapse since IT'S STILL GOING ON
You know the only player who didnt go to jail or have some sort of legal trouble on the 'Jail' Blazers was a man by the name of 'Outlaw'. Bo. Outlaw.
I’d recommend doing the 2015 broncos or the 2007 Rockies (even tho they weren’t amazing)
Definitely the 2015 Broncos. They've declined HARD!
Lemme guess you’re from Colorado?
Or Arsenal
From Invincibles to Invisibles
They’re prolly waiting for von Miller to get traded maybe idk
The Thuggets of the late 2000s would be a fun topic too, similar to the Jail Blazers. That squad with AI, Melo, KMart, JR Smith, Dahntay Jones, and more was hella entertaining and pretty good as well.
Clara is KILLING IT!!!
Happy to see they brought this series back
Two deep (Shaq/Kobe) vs Too deep (Portland). That 2000 Blazers team scared me more than the 2002 Kings. I never felt like at our best we'd lose to Sac, but Portland was absolutely good enough to beat us and win the title. But Blazers went Blazers at THE most important time. And they were never the same after.
So well done... Really captured the essence of the "Jail Blazers"! 💯 From somebody that lived this era, BRAVO!!!! 👏
They missed alot of classic jailblazer stories
Portland had like half the league’s talent on their team back then. Unbelievably, they actually did have way too many all-stars. No one could successfully coach all those egos.
Agreed. For a team that was supposed to be built around Sheed, they sure didn’t get anyone who actually were used to being in secondary roles. They would never going to work.
Best way to start the day-new SecretBase upload
I've been waiting for this all day. 🙂
Everyone likes to joke about the Jail Blazers but they had some legit squads before things imploded. Great veteran teams that were in the top of the west consistently. Sheed was dominant in the paint. Still think they got robbed vs the Lakers, around the same time the Kings did. Fun times back then
The Blazers and Kings didn’t get “robbed vs. the Lakers”. They got robbed vs. David Stern.
This hurt more than I expected. I think I’d been in denial about the crash.
This downfall would continue all the way to the 2005/2006 season, when the Blazers finished with a 21-61 record for last place in the NBA.

Make a video on the epic story of the 2004 Red Sox! That’s one of the best sports stories ever!

Now I'm starting to think that Detlef Schrempf's guest appearance on Parks and Rec is actually a Blazers reference from a writer on the show.
nah man, he played w the pacers for a bit.
He was once a Pacer star before Seattle
He played for the pacers for a bit and Parks and Rec is set in Indiana, that’s why he was on it.
The 1999-2000 Portland Trail blazers team is one of the top 10 greatest teams not to win an NBA Title. I am a die hard Lakers fan and I admit I thought game 7 was over when L.A. was down 15 with 10:30 left to play. I remember hearing my dad going crazy so I had to come watch and boom the Lakers came back.
I felt so bad for Mo Cheeks. He's such a class act and gets stuck with that bunch as his first head coaching gig.
He did have his time with the ol' Sixers superteam in the 80s. The Jailblazers parts definitely shock him.
Detlef Schrempf & Stacey Augmon was on that team too they were LOADED loaded in 99-00 goes to show you how dominant Shaq was & how great of a combination Kobe made along side him
I think I could of averaged at least 4 points and 12 assists just playing with Shaq on my team lol
As a blazer fan, I'm starting to think secret base is becoming whatever the opposite of therapy is. Like watching a Ken Burns documentary about that one time you peed your pants in 1st grade. It's wonderful but dear god, talk about the Knicks again.
🤣🤣🤣🤣 I love Seattle sports teams + the Philadelphia Flyers....trust me when I say, I feel your pain!! P.S....I miss the I- 5 rivalry!!
Sheed was a beast , most underrated player at the time. He held his own against Timmay and KG
The most amazing thing about his career is that he never committed a foul. The refs were just targeting him

Now that my Cubs are transitioning into a new era I wouldn't be surprised to see a Collapse episode about them in the near future as well... I'm not ready for it
Legend has it, Pippen is still trying to prove he can win without Jordan to this day
Yep, especially with all the complaining he's been doing lately.
Arvydas Sabonis really went from an elite, all time Euroleague talent to "I Will Kill Him". Strange arc.
Dunleavy coached the Lakers to the Finals by taking Steve Smith who was on FIRE out of the game in the 4th qtr and putting Bonzi Wells into the game.
I loved those Blazers teams. Steve Smith, Stacey Augmon, and Shawn Kemp were my three favorite players as a kid, so when they all gathered in Portland I thought they'd be one of my favorite teams for a long time. They at least made it easy to quit liking them, but for a year or two it was pretty painful.
Like, I'm an Atlanta Falcons fan, and the game 7 loss to the Lakers still hurt more than the Super Bowl loss.
28-3
Already know this'll be a fun watch
I'm a guy who's usually pretty tight in his shell but the dead hermit crab broke me up. Beautiful delivery.
As a Lakers Fan, it’s interesting to see how good the Blazers were yet we were able to make an amazing comeback in the 4th. Also, this video has definitely been more entertaining than most of our 2021-22 season so far.
Amazing how far you can go when you are allowed to punch Rasheed Wallace in the kidneys for the final 12 minutes of the game lol
As a Lakers fan, you should find it fortunate to be gifted championships by the league. Must be nice to be the lead character in the movie, not because you’re the better actor, but because you sell more movie tickets. The Lakers are the Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson of the NBA. Let’s see how long it takes you before you realize that isn’t a compliment.
@@deadprecedents1 Plain and sample, we’re just really spoiled.

I prefer college ball over pro ball. Watching suffering isn't my thing. And yet I loved this. Great stuff!
Video idea!.. Rise n Fall of the triple J's Dallas Mavericks team with Jimmy Jackson, Jamal Mashburn, Jason Kidd....They were rated as the most exciting young team in the NBA for a short period of time.
i think they did a vid on this already
That's around the time I started watching basketball, and their thuggishness was funny in a way. With them, the reaction was, "What did one of these fools get arrested for now?" lol
"And wallance only had 27 techs this year."
