They’re not all even doing that. If they’re ignoring critiques and advice from legends of the business with actual experience doing this on a high level, if they refuse to even be trained, and think there’s nothing to learn… they are NOT trying!

AEW is proof that internet fans would be TERRIBLE at running a wrestling program. Just because they scream what they want doesn't mean they could write a good story, book and plan out a year's worth of arcs, make them work at TV and PPV intervals, be able to adjust to what live crowds are responding to, etc.
This is true. I loved WCW and the Faces of Fear were my guys. My ideal Starrcade main event would be Meng vs Barbarian for 13 minutes but I'm not foolish enough to think it would draw just because it's something I would enjoy. Tony and Russo (despite Russo saying he never wrote a show for him own enjoyment) wrote/write shows THEY wanted to see despite ratings and crowd response indicating the opposite
I think the hardcore and internet fans have a great sense of who should be main event. Because that’s just the wrestler having “it” I mean the internet did predict and have always wanted a Roman heel turn where he just builds his own samoan shield and lean into the fact that he’s wrestling royalty and they were right. It brought a wrestling boom period. But knowing “who” should be booked tough shouldn’t isn’t knowing “what” should be booked.

Im 40yrs old a fan of wrestling for 35 yrs. I was excited that a big money alternative was launching to give us something different from WWE. I legit stopped watching AEW after 3 Months. I knew just by the structure of those early programs that it was only down hill from there.
You can tell that Conrad knows he’s right because he sits there silently and takes it. When he thinks that Eric is wrong, he will get all worked up and passionate.

Well said. I was rooting for AEW from inception, l really was, but it's been utter rubbish since 2021. I cringe at the booking choices. It's woeful.
I would say Collision showed some promise in the beginning, but that was all thrown away for obvious reasons. Yeah, AEW has gone downhill without ever reaching the top to begin with.
The wife and I celebrated an anniversary together going to Full Gear 2021. Id say that was the peak before things took a downturn
And maybe if AEW goes away and hopefully it doesn't but let's understand that other than the other company no one does this correctly it doesn't matter about money or budget they go away because folks with money have no idea how to operate it. The Ratings are telling the story, Wrestling fans are tuning out. When AEW debuted in 2019 it was a refreshing alternative to WWE, In 5 years it has diminished. Cody left, Jade Cargil left, Brian Pillman Jr. Left and more may plan to vacate. If Tony Khan doesn't start to take things seriously AEW will be spoken about in the past tense.

It's a retirement company. Sting, Edge, Danielson, etc. They're padding out their careers with a huge payday. They don't care if it's coherent.
The buildup to the match makes me think they had no plans at all, and just made a last second decision because time was up. And nothing Darby said was wrong, except it was probably the wrong time and place to say it.

He’s friends with the talent and talks to them, I just think he doesn’t want it to be awkward when he’s here agreeing with all these unfortunate facts, then has to face them personally. Conrad is like the ultimate diplomat wanting to keep the peace between everyone.
I don't care that Sting picked his opponents. That doesn't mean I have to like it. I like stuff if it's good regardless of who's idea it was. I think a LOT of people, Conrad included, see everything that happens in AEW in a way that's completely divorced from reality. Someone can say, "I don't want to see this match!" and the response is "But Sting wanted it." How is that an adult way to answer that criticism?
"I don't want to see this match" isn't criticism, it's a feeling and or an opinion.
It's Sting's decision and if it was really his decision then fine. This though kind feels like a Kurt Angle situation where either the decision was made for him or he got talked into a bad decision. I love Sting and have since 1997 when I first saw him when he was turning into the crow character. I don't even think I want to watch this though and it's because of the Bucks. They just aren't my cup of tea, never have been. Even when I first saw them in TNA. They still come across as a mid card TNA tag team to me. Your have teams like FTR (who would be my no.1 pick), Private Party, Lucha Bros, The Gunns, The Acclaimed, The Hardyz. All of which I would prefer to see fight Sting and Darby over the Bucks. It's would be weird but turn Edge or Christian and team them up for it.

Key word is "trying" because I'll level with you. This Sting flipped order retirement angle feels like how you don't book a retirement series. Next to Ric Flair's "false finish" cash grab 1 last year or was it 2022? The 1 where he has a terrible purple shirt on, and everyone in attendance felt awkward about. Worst case scenario for Sting here is he becomes an after thought in his own retirement match. While Darby and Bucks make it all about their spotfest era selves. But hey! At least Sting's kids will have a guaranteed job on Tony Khan's promotion soon. A sacrifice I can't fault Sting for I guess. Still think they could've done a Edge & Christian vs Sting & Darby retirement match for those titles. Where after Lucha guy got the contract, and Christian turns face over how the match reminded him of those old days. Tried to defend Edge from getting cashed in on, and that's where Lucha guy turns on Christian. Breaking out while taking a faction along with Edge's title. Resulting in Edge & Christian reforming a tag team to go after Lucha guy and the Wayne kid. Once done thanks to Sting & Darby's help, cus you know Tony loves his 8 man tags! Transition into a babyface angle where they put over Sting. Given I always though the real reason Edge jumped to AEW. Was because Tony Khan enticed Edge with a Sting retirement match. Where he can send off a guy he always admired. Now Edge is miserable or regretful, and the Bucks doing what people accused Rock of doing. Slotted themselves into a match that makes legit no sense. Sting picked them? Sure! That makes as much sense as Meltzer's grammar. Oh well! Maybe Sting can pull a Ric, and have a proper retirement on WWE's programming in 4 years. Streamed and presented as an actual big deal to the millions watching on Netflix.
It’s interesting that this is all happening around the same time as the wrestlemania stuff. Notice how the rock was able to pivot and plans changed when they realized fans weren’t into it, while AEW does the opposite and sticks to their guns. Sting should be admitting he made a bad decision and they should be fixing it.

It's definitely indy style booking when Tony just books random death matches for matches where the stipulation makes no sense and a match on Rampage between Jeff Hardy and Sammy that featured ladder and table spots in what was a meaningless match on their third show. Those are the kinds of matches that get booked on an indy show when the only audience watching is the ones in attendance. Booking matches like that when they make no sense and means they are taking risks with zero pay off.

Conrad, saying that someone is doing something 'to the best of their ability' doesn't mean that the effort placed into that endeavor is worthwhile, or even excusable.
If the best of their ability is substandard, then they shouldn't be given the opportunity of executing the responsibilities of that position.
AEW's match booking itself isn't that bad but I think that some of the wrestlers are what make it appear to be childish. Some of the guys like Darby Allin, Sammy Guevara and Hook, for example, look like they still could be in high school. They have Guevara calling out a guy like Will Hobbs now which I think is totally ridiculous. A guy like Guevara should be paired with guys similar to his size and style. Big mismatches like that definitely make the booking look questionable.

Conrad isnt being 100% Eric is right in what he is saying in terms of story telling and this is what happens when "wrestling journalists" are friends with the talent, they cannot be 100% honest, The Young Bucks claim to be the best in the world so doing any angle in/out the ring for them should be easy enough to convey what they need to but guys like Conrad will say that they are trying it which makes them look/seem so inexperienced
They aren’t even trying. If they were trying they would have trained with real wrestlers, learned their craft, and be willing to learn and improve even now, with mentors all around.
This is one of the reasons I’ve become a more causal aew fan. I was a believer after the first all in. But all the matches are the same and chaotic nonsense. Blows my mind that everytime I see someone like swolverine on the show he gets beat. And many of my favorite moments in aew contain people that aren’t even there anymore. Think of it this way, you’re playing a game that’s got you really immersed and then the game keeps glitching and characters and popping in and falling through the map. And then halfway through the characters get replaced with unfinished models and are stuck in the t pose. That’s aew In a Nutshell.

@@countryboyred that was my biggest problem, no storylines. It's just wrestling matches. Professional wrestling doesn't make sense without a story, the outcome has been determined. I need a reason to watch so I can get to the outcome.
I used to appreciate the moves and how they did it and their talents at pulling things off. I also love the other ingredients that goes with it the character , stories , groups , rivals and the stories they would seamlessly tell every week , month , year or years.
Now people just ride the roller coaster over and over and over again and dont care about the stories short and small that can be told that make it worth it to tune in every time to see what is next.
I finally watched Rampage on TV and it was pretty rubbish felt like WCW Pro Wrestling syndicated and even the Pro is better than Rampage. I watched it with my dad and it ended with me watching Scott Steiner stuff on my phone and listening to Michael Buffer on Nitro.
Probably the worst moment to try pitch pro wrestling to my dad by watching rampage. He did agree he would get hospitalized when i showed him the legends of the 40s and 50s man handling people in a game of human chess.
Thank you Eric for keeping it 💯. I feel the same way, I watch a ton of wrestling each week from all of the feds and it's near impossible to care about anything AEW. Same goes for Impact, NWA and NJPW. It's all really mid and childlike. Thank god NOAH and WWE are interesting 🙏.

Lex Luger in late 96 to his title win in 97 is amongst the greatest babyfaces of all time and don’t get enough respect or recognition for this. And Eric I know you was a part of that so thank you. I felt Luger was even more important than Sting 🦂 at this time because Sting 🦂 was not wrestling and battling personal demons and Sting 🦂 wasn’t really in ring ready and hitting strides until mid 1998
Darby Allin didn't mention the beat down of Sting and his family because it was so fake looking that absolutely no one thought it really happened. How childish would be a promo that was based on "I'm mad at you for pretending to beat up Sting and his sons."
Darby did the only thing he could have done with the material he was given.
The Young Bucks talking about getting rid of the “old” guys is so funny considering they’re both nearly 40. They still see themselves as those high school kids who would do wrestling moves on their trampoline.
I would like to know what beef Conrad has with WWE. Plus, the reason for his almost fanatical love for anything AEW. My Spidey senses tells me there is more than variety for the wrestling fans. It comes across as personal grudges.
