I put up videos from Mandi and my rescue and care videos, so look to the title or description to figure out the context of the vids. It seems like he might be; he has a lot of damage to his membrane but it seems like it might be a goer, and he's had the xray and there are no fractures.

I was impressed with myself for thinking of the name; it really suits him. We need an xray for one of his finger joints but I consulted a carer who rehabs them past the initial stages (which is all I really do except for the babies whom I get to 10 weeks old before sending them to minicreche). This carer sees the membrane breakdown and healing and can fairly accurately predict if they have a bit of a chance or a good chance of healing. What an absolute sweetie. Best of luck to the little man ❤ I hope he makes it. Those big eyes, the way he clung to you when you examined him in the car ❤ I can't believe thar vets wouldn't allow bats in, thats awful 😢 Thank goodness for you Meg ❤❤❤
The vets feel it is a safety thing and there is too much chance of airborne contamination; it's the management policy to fit with their insurance, so there's no changing it. I just work with it and hope they call me direct every time a bat comes in so I can get it out of their clutches soonest.
It seemed to be seeping out of his wing membrane and clotting; I thought he might have a ghastly deep peck wound on his butt and I was feeling sorry for him and wondering how I missed so much blood at rescue. I was feeling quite incompetent.
Rainforest fruits and nectar and pollen when they flower. THere can be mass flowering in winter for some species, and rainforest fruits and figs seem to be an all year thing. The lean time is generally leading up to spring, when the girls are heavily pregnant and there is less flowering before the mass spring flowering. If there is a lot of rain it washes out the nectar and pollen (pollen=protein) from teh blossom which reduces the food value or negates it entirely. If there is not much food around we get a lot of skinny babies coming into care.
They can carry diseases, I had a bird hit a window and I had to take it to the vets to be euthanized (broken wing), they couldn't take it inside because of bird flu risk but they still sorted it. This place looks the same, they wouldn't treat it but they did call an expert
In Australia vets aren't routinely vaccinated for rabies (since we don't have rabies per se here). I understand that vets won't handle them but I don't understand how they think it might be a contamination risk just to have it inside the door. They called WIRES (wildlife rescue) who called me. This vet practice has my phone number but the new staff didn't know to call me. It's only a kilometre from me. It's a specialist practice where it costs a bomb to walk in the door. I can't even get a bat euthanased there anymore if I do it myself and just use their facilities. The only time in the last year or so that they've let a bat in the door was when the MOP walked in with it hanging off his shirt... There was a vaccinated vet nurse on so she took care of it (but didn't notice that it was electrocuted and needed euthanasia).
@@nargilblue, Now they’re telling us to beware of frogs, turtles, reptiles (salmonella), birds (different diseases), and anything wild. My old vet had to surreptitiously treat ferrets, because the chicken industry made keeping them as pets illegal. At least it’s not all vets.
Meg I love watching u with the fox bats. I'm sorry I didn't introduce my self. I'm a wildlife rehabbed in Central Illinois. We are not allowed to deal with bats or skunks which is stupid. Always enjoy your videos. Sincerely Erin roesch
@johnroesch5704 Hi Erin Good to meet another rehabber. The batty people don't call them fox bats (only non batty people think this is the correct term); we just call them bats or flying-foxes. If you want to use a short form, just call them bats. What a shame you're unable to care for the most amazing of the creatures you have - microbats and skunks. I love skunks. (though I think I wouldn't enjoy the stink of an upset skunk). Meg
@SuziQ. I have a class C license. Raccoons, squirrels and a lot more. If u google illinios wildlife rehabbed list u can find me and the whole state of illinios
Morning Meg it's eirin . I think we only have brown bats where I live . Would love to do what u do with flying fox bats. Honestly I love skunk ive deal with them a lot. Skunk really don't smell. They give u fair warning to get way before they spray. Yes that smell is unbelievable bad. But they r gentle animals.
@johnroesch5704 Hi Eirin Baby skunks are gorgeous - I love it when they stomp. Unfortunately you don't have flying-foxes on the US mainland. You will note that the real batty people don't call them flying fox bats; we call them flying-foxes or bats, but not both terms together. If you want to be a batty person in the know, then use either term, not both together. We just call them bats unless we need to be specific.
295 Grammes? Who's the heaviest bat you ever had, and his/her weight? And her/his wingspan, would you guess? It's so sweet when they flick their tongues, reminds me of dogs who want to give me lickie-kissies! I know, I know; bats are another matter altogether(Laughs!!)!! Zondo; that's a neat name. Ever thought of naming a little feller, Barnabas/"Barney"??
I don't take name suggestions Swithin. I have had some big adult males during breeding season come in at over 1kg (1000g), and I know Mandi had a very chubby one in her aviary about 10 years ago called Rowa who topped the scales at about 1.2 kgs. They have a wingspan of over a metre (but Zondo would probably only have a wingspan of about 80cms. He's got a lot of growing to do yet.
Meg, how would we go about finding what species of bat it is? There's a video on facebook. I think it's a microbat but I've never seen one that looks like it on any of the bat videos I've watched so I'm curious. Poor thing is on the ground with two babies so I hope they called wildlife services.
Google what bats you have in your local area, get pix of them and learn their habits and preferences. If you can get a decent pic of your batties then you'll have a reference. If you can't get pix, then see if there is a local bat rescuer who might come and give you advice. Bat World Sanctuary probably has resources you can tap into if you email them and ask, or look at their website.
Oh, Meg, he is a magnificent young fellow, but first we need to talk about those amazing mismatched leggings! My first thought was "Alice in Wonderland?" but on reflection neither of the two Tweedles wore socks to match their shirts. Then it came to me that the stripes were those of the witch who finished under the house in the Wizard of Oz. Now you'll need some ruby slippers to set them off - at least for the right side. If you do, I shall christen you Meg the Good Witch. Now back to young Elizondo, a handsome, if a bit holey, Hector manqué. It looks as if his pointy bits move and clutch well, so I've crossed my claws for him. And remember, if you meet another Hector in need of naming, that the Italian version is Ettore, which sounds lovely and musical.
Sometimes I wear 2 different colour shoes if they're the same style (or sandals). I never lose a sock but in the last few weeks I've lost 2 socks, separately and not of the same pair. Then I started wearing the pair of orphans then I found my socks again. I lost a sock last night but I was a genius and tracked it down as being in the washing machine in the mesh bag with my black leggings. It got caught up with the leggings when I put them into the bag. I like to put things in delicates bags if they stretch; bamboo leggings aren't cheap, but they last years if you put them in a bag so they don't get stretched during the wash. Also my fave t shirts and my undies. They make cruddy elastic now so if you just throw the undies in the machine they get stretched and tangled with everything.
@emiliokingghidorah4395 Why don't you email me and ask me what I'd like you to do to make some awesome batty vids with my footage? You do some good effects and we could work together to make the bats not sensationalist but a great compilation which is gorgeous and endearing. Your choice; megabattieblue@gmail.com. If I like the vids I can share and recommend them which benefits you. Meg

@@nargilblue,
Now they’re telling us to beware of frogs, turtles, reptiles (salmonella), birds (different diseases), and anything wild. My old vet had to surreptitiously treat ferrets, because the chicken industry made keeping them as pets illegal.
At least it’s not all vets.
He's got such a cute blonde face! I love him already
Meg I love watching u with the fox bats. I'm sorry I didn't introduce my self. I'm a wildlife rehabbed in Central Illinois. We are not allowed to deal with bats or skunks which is stupid. Always enjoy your videos.
Sincerely Erin roesch
@johnroesch5704
Hi Erin
Good to meet another rehabber.
Meg
I’ve always loved skunks. What are you allowed to rehab, Erin?
@SuziQ.
I have a class C license. Raccoons, squirrels and a lot more. If u google illinios wildlife rehabbed list u can find me and the whole state of illinios
That ' so sweet ❤❤❤❤
Morning Meg it's eirin . I think we only have brown bats where I live . Would love to do what u do with flying fox bats. Honestly I love skunk ive deal with them a lot. Skunk really don't smell. They give u fair warning to get way before they spray. Yes that smell is unbelievable bad. But they r gentle animals.
@johnroesch5704 Hi Eirin
Baby skunks are gorgeous - I love it when they stomp.
Come on Elzoondo you will recover soon( i hope)
Why DO birds hat bats so? They don't really directly compete, do they?
The leggings came as seen; different on each leg. I like them.
@@Megabattie So do I! I'm a big fan of mismatched fun socks, too.
@@chezmoi42 who decided each sock had to match it's pair? I just put on what works for me. If I don't care, who else has the right?

If it isn't your intention to steal my content, why do it?
@emiliokingghidorah4395
Why don't you email me and ask me what I'd like you to do to make some awesome batty vids with my footage? You do some good effects and we could work together to make the bats not sensationalist but a great compilation which is gorgeous and endearing.
Your choice; megabattieblue@gmail.com.
If I like the vids I can share and recommend them which benefits you.
