Around 25 or 30 years ago my son came running in the house yelling "dad, come quick!". When I went outside to see what was wrong there were two baby squirrels lying under a tree that were apparently joined at the tail bone from birth. One was dead and the other was trying to drag it with him. My first thought was to euthanize the live one to stop the suffering, but my son said "please, dad, don't". In the meantime the mother came down from the tree and ran up to me chattering. Wasn't sure what to do so I told my son to go in house and get a bottle of peroxide while I got my twig clippers from the garage. There was no way I could save the tail for the live one (it wasn't flicking around so I figured the nerves, muscles and bone were attached to the dead one), so l held him pressed to the ground and snipped off the tail while my son poured the peroxide on the area cut. All the while the mother was still at my side chattering. The baby let out a yelp when the mother moved in and the two took off running. I didn't think the baby would survive but it was all I could do. Latter that summer I was sitting on my patio enjoying a beer when I noticed a grown squirrel running on top of our fence, no tail, with his butt swinging back and forth for balance. That was a good day. (lol)
Actually, squirrels use their tail to show emotion. For example, when they're wagging it, they're unhappy or upset. animals.mom.me/mean-squirrels-wag-tails-sitting-10491.html You and the squirrel were lucky that your plan worked and that it lived! Pretty darn cool! ❤️
I've had squirrels, they are indeed awesome little critters. However, if you've ever seen them when they go through puberty, they go INSANE... Love them to bits and stock up on band-aids! lol!
Squirrels are quite destructive unless given something to keep them occupied. And they chew just about everything they get their SHARP teeth on. Their claws are pretty sharp as well. If you plan to keep a squirrel, be prepared to clean up after them when they decide to chew woodwork, drapes, rugs, etc. They can be taught NOT to chew things, but it takes an unbelievable amount of time and effort. And as someone else commented: they are INSANE when going through young adult (squirrel) hood! I have a squirrel that I rescued as a baby when his mother was hit by a car, and I love him to DEATH, but he is a rambunctious little monster at times.

Ah, the trust of the innocent. I used to live in the country and one winter night this baby mouse came staggering up to me while I was in bed. She was so unsteady and looked malnourished. I put my hand to the floor thinking that would scare her away. Instead she came to me. So, what could I do. I built a little place for her to live in an old blueberry container (I named her Blueberry) and basically fed her, etc, until her strength returned and the weather got better. I let her go. She didn't seem eager to leave at first but did eventually get curious enough to do so. Sometimes they get desperate enough to take a chance.
Thanks for that. I learned my lesson long ago when out in the Denver area visiting my cousin. They claimed to have a strange large toad in their garden. It was dark when we pulled up the the property and someone yelled, 'There it is!' I jumped out and caught it only to have it copiously excrete on me twice. I never did get it into the light to determine what it was. Once back in the car, my cousin said I should wash myself off as soon as possible. I agreed but shortly afterward recall rubbing my itchy eye. The next day I felt odd and lethargic. I was not able to drive home. Long story short --- I ended up in the hospital two days later. The doctors never quite figured out what it was except I began bleeding internally and was an hour away from death by the time I made it in. I am a lot more careful these days. I still trun no animal away - I just take a lot more precautions.
hungfao Ive seen videos of even adult wolves who were starving take a chance and go to humans to see if it could get some food in a very non threatening and almost tame way. Sometimes animals lose that fear out of desperation.
Poor sweetheart of a squirrel I hope and pray that this lovable squirrel can find a stand in mother to help them grow up and live life once again my prayers are with you buddy ♡
Just FYI for people who might watch this video... Squirrels don't carry rabies. Neither do opossums. Skunks and raccoons do. And baby squirrels won't bite hard enough to break the skin. It could hurt, but not life-threatening to you. In some regions, squirrels can carry Bubonic Plague and Typhus. Both are very old diseases and can be treated with anti-biotics. That's the worst they can give you. His trembling back legs show that he might have been dehydrated and/or low on calcium. Mama may have been killed and he went out looking for food. Always rehydrate a baby squirrel with Pedialyte, and then get them warm. Try to find mama if you can. If not, then warmth, hydrate, call a rehab facility. Some states have strict laws. Some states pretend to have strict laws but no money or staff to implement the laws. And a few states, you can keep the squirrel no problem. But it is a commitment...like having a Cockatoo. They need a very large cage. Daily free roaming for hours. Can be destructive and moody and may bond to only one or two people.
yes, but many animals have natural immunities to rabies due to their biological makeup. So while rabies can be in mammals, many types of rodents and rabbits won't get rabies nor carry the disease. Small rodents like squirrls, rats, gerbils, rabbits, hares won't carry it. Only woodchucks and groundhogs don't have a resistance to the disease and can carry it. You aren't going to get rabies from most rodents or rabbits they are highly resistant to the disease, and their lifestyle doesn't usually involve them biting or being bit by animals that can carry it.
Joel Bishop True. When I say "carry rabies" I mean to carry the disease for months without showing symptoms like skunks and raccoons can do. It is very rare for a rodent to survive an attack of a rabid predator and actually contract the disease. They have to already have a low immunity response. They can naturally fight it if they are healthy. If they do contract it, they die quickly. A healthy looking baby squirrel without injuries will have near a zero chance of having rabies. Many laws about keeping and raising squirrels in many states are based off of very old scientific assumptions that have been proven false. But it is more than okay in all states to kill and eat them.
And that's the elderly. Zero fucks given. I love how stuff that they see is just par for the course and we're all over here with tears in our eyes (myself included. I about spit my coffee out when I heard that.) I used to work at a nursing home and was amazed at how big of hearts yet how incredibly TOUGH the elderly are.
This kind of behavior has nothing to do with them wanting to play. This is literally begging for food/company/safety. If their homes get destroyed or their territory was took over by another squirrelly, squirrels tend to follow humans hoping to be rescued or get food.
I was wondering the same thing. Maybe it couldn't climb right and the mom had to leave it. Poor thing looks scared it's not even eating just looking for comfort. I'd a took it in and kept it in fear it would get killed if I didn't
Upside Down Physics none of the baby's are scared of humans. I raised many baby squirrels but baby squirrels don't just come to humans they do that when the moms gone or got kicked out the nest.
Upside Down Physics I understand where your coming from though. Most squirrels should be scared of humans but most are slowing coming around and starting to be friendly torge everyone.
Kaylee is right. Because most squirrels are very afraid of humans there must be something wrong when they get this close to humans. Baby squirrels normaly dont do that.. But when they lost their mother or are starving because of any other reason, they tend to do that. Many organisations are informing that in spring/early summer events like this can occure and you should not put the babys back but rescue them and take them to a shelter.
When I was a tween I found a young squirrel at the foot of a tree and it seemed his mother abandoned him, ended up convincing my momma let me adopt him, we had him for about a year I named him Bender and he was awesome so friendly and fun. He pooped CONSTANTLY but they are just little poop circles that are easy to clean. We released him into the wild at a park and I never seen him again :(
Momma must've abandoned it... it's way too friendly with people, I hope you kept it or called a wildlife rehabber, so the could get it independent to release...
Angela Ando I was thinking exact same thing . Looks more than a little malnourished and very dehydrated. I work as a vet tech at my local zoo and help care for all kinds of babies !
Therian Sunite if caught at a young(couple days old)age they do make great little pets. I had a squirrel as a kid along with Chipmonks , black tipped groundhogs . My squirrel was my favorite though . Would love to have another "Soup" in my life
Or it ate poison. I had a full size squirrel act like that. I caught it and handed it over to animal control. The officer said it ingested rat poison and was trying to get help from me, that's the only reason why it let me catch it.
Such a cute little creature! I get the impression the little guy is looking for some help. I wonder what became of him later. I wonder if he is still alive...
it's a Fox Squirrel, it just wants some type of fruit or any nuts, preferably peanuts ... They love peanuts and it was just curious that's all, my son and I in SW Florida will sit outside outback by the trees and the little ones come and enjoy peanuts and leave when they are done.
Lemme bookmark this wholesome one real quick for another rewatch later with headsets on, it reminded me of childhood memories hanging around in the backyard on a late, breezy, carefree summer afternoon
Poor little guy he was coming up to you looking for food as something has happened to mom and he is now all alone. He would need to drink Esbilac puppy formula with Probiotics, feed 5-7% of his body weight every 5 hours..... later you can add in a good quality squirrel block, then vegetables, fruits and nuts.
I would have loved to take care of him, but I was out of town and have 2 terrible chihuahuas at home. The other people called the conservancy from what I hear.
TravelingDirector : This little one seemed to be a bit wobbly on it's feet. It may have been ILL. The best thing to have done, was to call your state's environmental conservation department. They would have given you a list, with all the information as to how to alert government licensed wild life rehabilitators. Thank You so much for your kindness. 👼😘👍💖 P.S. Until help arrived, perhaps especially formulated nutritious "kitten" formula purchased at your local pet store, accompanied with a kitten baby bottle would have helped tremendously. BLESSINGS ! 😇
Babies of many species don't have fully developed muscle control. I think it was a little wobbly due to being young and or could've been a little dehydrated.
His mom may died and looking for someone to take care of him. He needs baby formula, cuddle and safe warm place to sleep but no one even pick him up. Poor baby
I read that if you find a baby out on its own, chances are it's just learning to forage on its own and likely knows exactly where home is but on the off chance it doesn't you playing with it, keeping it entertained was really good of you and filming was really good for us.
We've helped a local rehab spot with a few babies...mainly sick fawns. He's told us Never give a baby animal Cow's milk. It can mess up their digestive system, and kill them. Needs to be a proper formula
Rhonna Marsden I think it is just the fact that he is still learning how to walk. That looks like a really young squirrel. Tho the back leg does look a little messed up so the leg could be causing the little guy to not be able to walk right
Aww what a sweet furbaby. Thank you for being so kind to an animal in need. Just FYI though, cashews aren't good for squirrels to eat. Their phosphorous content can be toxic to them and can cause severe calcium loss. Hazelnuts, macadamia nuts, walnuts, pecans, and pistachios are best to give them.
Adi Adrian it must be the environment. I noticed that squirrels by my family’s house are typically scared to come around us and I think its because our outdoor cat is always hunting them so they see everyone as a predator. But on my college campus squirrels will run across your shoes while your at the park and I think it’s because they feel safer with no natural predators nearby
Awwww....bless its little heart! I hope you guys were able to help him/her. There's a red squirrel that lives in a tree above my deck. He throws pine cones at my dogs every morning. It's like part of his routine now. If the dogs aren't out, he will sit at the sliding glass door & wait. They are funny little critters
twisted1800 I noticed the father squirrels are never around, like a dead-beat dad. Squirrels seems to grow up in single -parent households run by mother squirrels.
Around 25 or 30 years ago my son came running in the house yelling "dad, come quick!". When I went outside to see what was wrong there were two baby squirrels lying under a tree that were apparently joined at the tail bone from birth. ψOG-Lucifer-TKOψ Sort of like a large-breed dog's puppies looking like they have enormous feet. Same deal.
I was wondering the same thing. Maybe it couldn't climb right and the mom had to leave it. Poor thing looks scared it's not even eating just looking for comfort. I'd a took it in and kept it in fear it would get killed if I didn't
He's lost his mom. Now you're his mom. Can't leave him outside.
She needed to be held, comforted and given some milk. They are very social, very affectionate, at any age.
I hope this baby ended up thriving. Thank you for at least trying to help it.
They dont Play... It's search for help.... Every squirell who comes to humans lost his mother and need help for feeding and growing up.
Sprudelkuchen Source? Proof? Because last time I checked, squirrels are typically very afraid of humans and pretty much any other species.
Upside Down Physics none of the baby's are scared of humans. I raised many baby squirrels but baby squirrels don't just come to humans they do that when the moms gone or got kicked out the nest.
Isn't that common sense if you've literally hand-raised a squirrel? I'm still quite a bit skeptical, sorry.
We released him into the wild at a park and I never seen him again :(
Not only did I watch a cute baby squirrel but I also learned about pro biotics at Costco
Kim Jong-il is Kim Jong ill ?
Lmao yes
Ah yes, the people's Costco of North Korea!
Rahul TN 😂😂😂
Momma must've abandoned it... it's way too friendly with people, I hope you kept it or called a wildlife rehabber, so the could get it independent to release...
Angela Ando I was thinking exact same thing . Looks more than a little malnourished and very dehydrated. I work as a vet tech at my local zoo and help care for all kinds of babies !
Angela Ando omg are you serious he squirrel is wild.
Therian Sunite Who cares if it's wild, it needs help.
Linda Terry because the squirrel is obviously wild you can just nurse it to health and set it free once it stops nursing.
Therian Sunite if caught at a young(couple days old)age they do make great little pets. I had a squirrel as a kid along with Chipmonks , black tipped groundhogs .
My squirrel was my favorite though . Would love to have another "Soup" in my life
You are supposed to give him milk, for baby puppies or cats.
I want milk you humans!😉😆😄
That's what I was thinking
I love kind people. ❤️
They do this, when their mom dies. They try to find the closest warm blooded, nice animal/person to try and find someone to help it.
Meanwhile that little squirrel: mom lied to me, she told not to make friends with humans, but they are nice after all!
😂
Baby squirrel seek help they jump on people, and climb out of the legs. This is a help call.
Or it ate poison. I had a full size squirrel act like that. I caught it and handed it over to animal control. The officer said it ingested rat poison and was trying to get help from me, that's the only reason why it let me catch it.
Little Raspberry It survived. Was a lucky squirrel and must not have eaten alot.
Ergbgrwfwrtwrgbergbetrrgb
am i the only one seeig something on the baby's tail..looks like it's something sharp hooked to it
nvm i think it's just string lol
So lovely! Had one once that fell onto the porch in a storm, they are a true blessing and you are so wonderful yourselves, needed this vid today!!!!
Such a cute little creature! I get the impression the little guy is looking for some help. I wonder what became of him later. I wonder if he is still alive...
it's a Fox Squirrel, it just wants some type of fruit or any nuts, preferably peanuts ... They love peanuts and it was just curious that's all, my son and I in SW Florida will sit outside outback by the trees and the little ones come and enjoy peanuts and leave when they are done.
robert murphy they tried feeding him nuts and fruits and water he wasn't interested in any of it. He's just a baby probably is still breast feeding.
you have a pure soul sweetie
please tell me someone took it home - it will never survive on it's own
Even if the little baby didnt survive or so on. The men where so kind to it and it probably feelt safe there,
Thanks for all that you did for it.
THANK YOU TO THE PEOPLE IN THIS VIDEO FOR BEING SO KIND TO THE BABY SQUIRREL
1:00 “come here baby” “ that baby is just a baby” I don’t know why that was funny to me
Usualy its an act of hopelessnes from a squirrelbaby to come close....that means he is probably lost a while and looking for any help.
It was looking for its mother. It must have fallen from the nest.
Lemme bookmark this wholesome one real quick for another rewatch later with headsets on, it reminded me of childhood memories hanging around in the backyard on a late, breezy, carefree summer afternoon
this squirrel is like “i like it here i think i’ll stay”
How do you Like That ? No they would have killed him
How do you Like That ? And he was wobbly cuz he was a baby
That squirrel is in good kind hands, you seem compassionate people
It looks like it wants to snuggle up to you , it feels safe with you! Dad!
Something about this seems kinda off I mean
an adult male leading a baby squirrel to his car with the promise of nuts.
tarapapi the squirrel was dressed like she wanted it
lol trolling the troller
Chris Hansen is in the bushes.
+TravelingDirector XDD
i think it was wanting help, security...he went under the car, strong indication of him feeling exposed, adorable n amazing video
"that baby is just a baby...."
Why isn’t he running away like the rest of the squirrels
He’s too young to know that humans dont wanna be his friend
There are some squirrels that comfortable around humans
yeeeeeeeeeth 😭
Jason Voorhees they love nuts and it’s a baby so they don’t think they at risk.
His mom may died and looking for someone to take care of him. He needs baby formula, cuddle and safe warm place to sleep but no one even pick him up. Poor baby
How cool is it to have him on your shoulder everywhere you go like your sidekick.
All I could think while I watched this is, “I want to pet him. I really, really want to pet him!”
He probably wanted mom's milk.
or he is rabid :/
I read that if you find a baby out on its own, chances are it's just learning to forage on its own and likely knows exactly where home is but on the off chance it doesn't you playing with it, keeping it entertained was really good of you and filming was really good for us.
1% warm milk from an eye dropper. Solid food, it will choke on.
We've helped a local rehab spot with a few babies...mainly sick fawns. He's told us Never give a baby animal Cow's milk. It can mess up their digestive system, and kill them. Needs to be a proper formula
Wrong. If you don't know what to do, please take orphaned wildlife to a rescue facility with people who are trained what to do.
poor little guy, needs to be looked after by wild life experts, hes walking funny.
Rhonna Marsden I think it is just the fact that he is still learning how to walk. That looks like a really young squirrel. Tho the back leg does look a little messed up so the leg could be causing the little guy to not be able to walk right
He's dehydrated because his legs are wobbling
he also has longer back legs then his front so he's probably still adjusting he is a baby after all
Aww what a sweet furbaby.

UA-cam: let's put this on recommended this
Nice video enjoyed listening to your conversations! Cute little thing. So what happened to him did he find his mother !??
Wow,that's totally amazing how the tiny squirrel interacted with humans.
No squirrels play with me, they all run away :(
Adi Adrian it must be the environment. I noticed that squirrels by my family’s house are typically scared to come around us and I think its because our outdoor cat is always hunting them so they see everyone as a predator. But on my college campus squirrels will run across your shoes while your at the park and I think it’s because they feel safer with no natural predators nearby
Go to Lower Manhattan by the Brooklyn Bridge. They come up to you for food!
I'm sitting here screaming at the video, "it's too young to eat that, it needs its mom"!!!
....
Full grown men playing with baby squirrel is the cutest lol.
I wanna give the baby a kiss on the forehead, that's how wholesome I feel right now, keep it in my house as a pet
Poor little guy! Probably far away from his mother or unfortunately his mother died. Hope he made it
Awwww....bless its little heart! I hope you guys were able to help him/her. There's a red squirrel that lives in a tree above my deck. He throws pine cones at my dogs every morning. It's like part of his routine now. If the dogs aren't out, he will sit at the sliding glass door & wait. They are funny little critters
He might be drunk on fermented fruit especially the way he or she is wandering erratically and so friendly
Lucifer Ooohhhh. Love your name and profile picture.
"That babys just a baby"
Omg! That thing will make a great gift! You can make a nice warm hat! Cozy hand warmers! Beautiful pair of slippers! The possibilities are endless. 👍
It's so funny how some people are just natural "animal whisperers"..... I have had this happen to me as well....so adorable
based on my rick and morty's knowledge, this squirrel is trying to dominate the world
huh? who are you?
lmao
@@rebeccamatthews6836 huh? who are you?
This dude is a long lost disney princess that was not given a disney movie .
I'm sorry but that squirrel has some kangaroo legs 😂😂😂😂
"I have nipples.." dude i was mod 'aw' and you gut punched me- well done sir.
save animal like this we need animals in this world animals and plant trees are very important thinks
Meanwhile momma squirrel is asking her husband " Have u seen our son?"
twisted1800
I noticed the father squirrels are never around, like a dead-beat dad.
Squirrels seems to grow up in single -parent households run by mother squirrels.
