Rescuing a flying-fox who was on the road; this is Gladys

- Gladys is an old adult female Grey-Headed Flying-Fox with worn down teeth; we call these senior citizens "gummy bears" and have great affection for them.
She was found on the road and the MOP helped her into a large bucket and covered her until I arrived; I was glad that she wasn't still on the road, crawling around and potentially getting squished by passing cars.
Initially I thought she had very little chance of survival, but to my surprise she actually improved after I got her home.
She has bloody toes with a possibly fracture in one toe, and she has a swollen wrist (but I can't feel any fractures in the joint). She needs xrays as soon as I can arrange them, however I am feeling cautiously hopeful.
Tolga Bat Hospital takes donations for our batties. Tolga is an awesome place in Far North Queensland, which has charity status. By sending donations to them, they get a percentage (and deserve every cent) and they can allocate money to me for batty expenses without it becoming part of my income stream (which makes tax time difficult).

Mention Megabattie or Meg in the PayPal message box and the money will find its way to me.
If no message box appears, please email Jenny to tell her that the money is for me.
IMPORTANT: If you pay through the PayPal Giving Fund, can you please email Jenny with the AMOUNT DONATED and the name under which you have donated, OR just forward along the PP receipt.
The Giving Fund doesn’t charge any fees (so the bats get more money) but PP doesn’t itemise out the amount, they just send a total every month, and we don’t know if the money is for Tolga or for Megabattie.

Lovely rescue and education for MOP who saved her ❤. I hope Miss Gladys heals quickly. Thanks, Meg!
Gladys....I'm praying that you keep improving and are a middle-aged survivor like the rest of us! Thanks to the MOP for "bucketing " her and keeping her safe from traffic. 🙏😇❤️🖤🦇🖤❤️
This MOP is lovely! Had a heart for Gladys and All animals.🐾🥰
What a lovely MOP. Sounds like she had three rescues this week.
O meg isn’t she lovely, poor baby ,we all know you will do your best ,love Ann uk❤️❤️❤️🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
Thank you so much to the nice woman who helped this bat and called Megabattie for assistance! You are so sweet and kind.
Feisty old girl.
My wife was chewed on by a very old, toothless cat once, she got reminded how weird it felt getting "gummed".
Their jaw pressure makes even a gummy bear bite painful because their gums are hard with the stubs of the teeth.
@@Megabattie Yeah, the cat's teeth were removed by a vet over the years, so probably feelt a lot softer.
Meg you are a battie Guardian Angel! Gentle, compassionate, well-experienced, and communicative to the bats & MOBs... GREAT job Meg!
Thank you MOP... For loving animals
She really does.🥰
What a lovely old girl! Hopefully she can get an xray quickly and has no breaks
это очень важно то чем вы занимаетесь долгих вам лет жизни
I hope this beautiful "gummy bear" can live out her time with the other seniors in comfort if she can't be released. Good luck Gladys ❤
❤
Gladys - the perfect name for that beautiful, dignified elder states-woman of her species (and 'Gummy-Bear). I love the oldies too, be it a toothless bat, arthritic cat, or a dog with a grey muzzle - they are adorable
I pray she will continue to get stronger each day, thanks to the wonderful humans who care so much.
She's in the best possible expert hands with Meg. Bravo to the magnificent lady who took decisive action to get her off the road and call in the cavalry. Fingers and toes are firmly crossed for Gladys' recovery here in the UK. XXX
Hope she's a survivor, we need all of them. ❤🍁🦇🇨🇦
Thank you ladies for caring for Gladys, fingers crossed for the next stage of recovery Gladys.
My mom’s name was Gladys. Hang in there sweet girl! That face is just so adorable and she is so good.
Wow, that many years of TLC you are so dedicated and sweet ❤
They really seem to know that you’re there to help them. 👍
I wish Gladys will get well soon 🙏🏻🌷🌟🍀🧡.
Hang in there Gladys! Meg is on the case! Kudos to the MOP. ❤❤❤
As much as love the babies and juvies, seniors are too my favorites, they’ve survived years without any problems, now Gladys is in need and as luck has it a nice MOP found her put her in a bucket off the street and Meg to the rescue 💞Hoping Gladys will continue to survive 💜🦇
I hope she is a survivor, I really feel for her.
This old lady batie is so quite and gentle !!! I hope she gets better ! with all your love and care
Because she is older is she a candidate to join the other seniors? Even if she's a little battle worn. I don't want to lose Gladys I already love her.
No, Mandi lives in a different state, and our organisation can't keep permanent care animals or transfer them to other carers out of state.
Go Gladys! Hoping this senior lady continues her long life! ☮️💜🦇
How sweet. Even the “Old Ones” get bundled. Get well soon Gladys.🥰
I wanted her to feel safe and contained.
I think we are all cautiously hopeful, your fab Meg!! Gladys is a sweet little lady, I really hope she makes it 🙏 ❤
Good luck sweetheart!!!🥰🥰🥰
Good luck Gladys. There’s just something so endearing about older animals especially the gummies ❤
Love the grizzled old gummy bears
I so hope Gladys is a survivor!!🤞🦇🤞🦇❤️🇨🇦
I hope she is OK. She's a sweet old thing
A lovely MOP too
quanto carinho.. thank you, humano adorável 🦇🦇😺
Old sweet lady bat ❤🦇
Both my grandmothers were named Gladys, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed for her ❤️🤞
So happy to hear her being vocal when y’all got home I hooe Gladys is going to be all right! She’s loving the glucose. Babylon is funny, I used to have a cockatiel so I know how that is! 💕🦇💕🦇💕🦇💕
🙏🏼♥️🙏🏼
I love the gummy bats. Miss Gladys has lived probably a good life, and hopefully this is only a small hurdle to get though. Let's all pray she makes it. The MOP was very nice and was very interested in bats and asking a lot of questions. Thanks Meg for all you do and to the MOPS who care.
Oh poor little baby made me cry , I pray 🙏 she makes it .❤❤❤🇬🇧
Well done..
Oh if everyone could be like this MOP💕 who helped Gladys the beautiful gummy bear Bat🩶🦇 a Cat, 2 birds, one a Pigeon too!🤗💕💕 17 years Meg, WOW!!👍 Bless you & ALL Bats too!🦇💕💕 I'm praying Gladys's X-rays will show no fractures & she makes the Survivor list. Thank you Meg!💕
Sounds like Babylon is feeling better😂🎉❤😅😊
那個阿姨聽起來很親切 💁♀️🦇
加油Gladys!
Keep my fingers crossed for Lady Gladys...🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼❤️
Fingers crossed,, little one!!
My patients can tell me what happened and what hurts and that makes them much easier to treat. It is much more difficult with your patients. Bless your heart and i hope Gladys does well.
Poor Gladys . That frightened screaming must echo around her sore head . Hope she will be OK..
❤🦇🥰🙏💙
Oh Gladys, I pray you make it sweetheart, I'll keep everything crossed Meg, thank you. She's in the best possible place ❤ ❤❤
Good luck Gladys xxx
An excellent candidate to join the old dudes and dudettettes
Awe a "gummy bear" that is cute! Gladys, I hope you make a full recovery and get to hang out with the others. You are in the best of hands!
This morning a bunch of family came over to celebrate my birthday and my son and daughter-in-law's anniversary. When my kids got here, they handed me an envelope and said that they thought their gift would make me happy. I opened the envelope, and it was a certificate in my name for sponsoring a bat (Ray - is he still around?) at the Tolga Animal Hospital. They chose Ray because my favorite rock personality is Ray Davies of the Kinks. Anyway, I burst into tears and told them that it was, indeed, a perfect present. I had to tell people who understand, so thanks for reading 😊
That's lovely Dwarfbeat.
I don't know if old blind Ray is still alive; Tolga is 2500 kms away from where I live so I don't "pop in" often.
That's the perfect present for a batto
A very thoughtful gift. Happy birthday.
CMON GLADYS ! KEEP FIGHTING !!!! 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽😘
Here's to cautious optimism for gummy girl Gladys! 🙏
Prayers for Gladys !! Thanks Meg !❤❤❤
OH MEG, I hope she survives xxx youve had too many go on you, it would be lovely if she has the strength to fight and the injury isnt too bad x Youre a very special lady x for what you do x M
I thought the MOP was charmingly curious.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤hope she’s ok thank you
❤
Judging by the title, I figured this one would end up with R.I.P. little one. Glad to see Gladys has a fighting chane to survive and go back to the wild. 🤞
Best wishes for you, cutie.
180g. She's very tiny 😮
No, she was 500 and something; the cloth was 180g. I subtracted it from the weight total.
Hoping she survives she may be an old girl but she has the will to fight and survive ❤️🦇🦇🦇🦇
The first time I saw a Flying Fox I fell in love with them. I think they are wonderful and unique.
The first time I saw a vid of a flying-fox pup, I was kind of hooked.
I was doing the basic rescue course for wildlife rescue and they said that with possum joeys (I thought I'd care for them), you feed them, change them and put them back; you don't play with them and humanise them because they're solitary animals and need to learn to be by themselves, and if you humanise them they're not releasable. So I thought - oh, that sounds like work with no cuteness reward...
Then the next section was on bats, and with baby bats you're allowed to love them, play with them, cuddle them, talk to them, tell them what good little fluff ball they are... in fact, not only are you allowed to love them, but you HAVE to love them, because they're colony animals and their mums are very close and loving with them and very tactile and interactive.
So I decided right then and there to do flying-fox pups; I loved the babies instantly, but I learned to love the adults and appreciate them for what and who they are. They're amazing creatures and so intelligent in a way we can actually understand and interact.
Sounds like that lovely MOP needs to get herself into a wildlife rescue course, seems she's got something of an interest already! ♥ Fingers crossed for this tough ol' gummy bear that she doesn't have anything un-fixable!
Mmm, she wants to just work with me, and she needs to do a course and then a bat course; it won't happen. Then she needs to be vaccinated.
And Maggie working with me works just fine, but I don't like people in my space.
Babylon needs a new name. Something uplifting. ❤
🦇❤️🫶
i laughed at the way she popped her head out of the bag/bucket and looked at you. "Are you here to help me? I may yell at you and fight you, and try to gum you, but I do need help. I'm a mess and I hurt." Gladys's face is so adorable. The MOP seemed a very caring person.
Your birds song has the repetition and cadence of the Whip o Will in the SE USA. Hope Gladys continues to improve.
Babylon learns from the local birds then just makes it up after that
I just took my American robin rescue to the wildlife bird rescuer to be transitioned back to her wild… and I’m a mess I miss her so much! How do you do it Meg?❤
I am a rescue and paramedic and ICU overnight care.
I don't want them as pets or forever, I just want them to be able to go back to the wild.
With that mindset, it's easy to see them progress through the system.
Well done on getting your robin rescue to a bird carer for release.
I think your bird hit his head 😂 ❤
Babylon, my evil bastard, the love of my cockatiel life (except for Licketty Split who was my very best bird ever and loved me unconditionally - Babylon puts conditions on his love!), goes with his flock who belong to a friend of mine, and he learns new noise from his location, new bird sounds and new repetitive songs.
Get well Gladys- You are a sweetheart. Babylon is singing you his same tune because he knows it's a favorite of almost everyone and he wants you pleased.
Babylon is doing it because he's forgotten his entire repertoire once he hooked up with the other birds.
@@Megabattie 🤣
Babylon was really getting on your nerves Meg!😂 The evil bastard(you call him). I will keep positive prayers for Gladys's X-rays showing no fractures.💕💕
Babylon is MY EVIL BASTARD and I love him to bits. But he was relentless and had been singing this for about an hour.
@@Megabattie I know you love him, I totally get the name!😂😂😂🥰
I cannot believe how that bat doesn't try toget away!!!
Gladys has hit her head and knocked herself silly; she vaguely tries to get away but is still too dizzy to be able to make a proper attempt at escape.
She loves the glucose. I don’t think i’ve ever seen a bat tongue moving that fast. Silly question: if her teeth are worn down to the gums, what happens if she tries to bite you?
She may very well attempt to gum me to death!
@@Megabattie There was a line in a movie: "I could kill you with this spoon. It might take me three hours, but I could do it."
Yes, exactly; give her time; in Gladys' mind, she was willing and able to kill me, if I just held still for long enough.
Could you please tell what is the name of that creme you use to reduce swelling?
Hirudoid. It reduces bruising and swelling by breaking up the blood collecting in the tissue so it doesn't clot into a haematoma.
Combien de temps avant que l'anti-douleur ne fasse de l'effet, SuperMeg, s'il vous plaît ?
15 minutes or so
I love the SuperMeg appellation!
@@Megabattie Merci Super Meg !
In a plastic bag and container?
She was in the bucket then she kept trying to climb out so she put the bag over her.
вы не заменимая потрясающие
thanks
Megabattie followers...I was able to send Mandi $72 Aud for the Rooster purchases so far. I still have plenty of Batlights for Meg, hedgehog items for Jacqui , and more rooster items for Mandi! 😇❤️🖤🦇🖤❤️
Thanks Patti
