    thanks for this info! I got one (+- 30cm high) from my parents when I left their home 10 years ago. It did great through great and less great care. It survived all my plant parent starter mistakes and even a few heat waves and holidays where I either forgot it or had a 'very loving but very lousy plant nanny'. It gave me plenty of flowers and got real big. Recently repotted most of my plants and this one had gotten terribly pot bound (read: where has the soil gone?) so I decided to separate it and now I have nine, including some pups (if that's the right term) that I rooted in water for a while. Probably a little over enthusiast... Most of the peace lilies still are a little in shock since then, but I'm ready to up my plant game, love them properly and see them thrive. My house is so much greener now and it gives me such delight! Will read your book for sure, thank you!

    Glad I found this video Daryl. Just received some cuttings of my 1st peace Lily from my sister-in-law's funeral. I hope I can follow your tips to keep mine healthy, whether it blooms often or not. The time lapse video was so very cool! I love watching time lapse videos of one of my favorite plants---my prayer plant.

    That was quite a nice video . . .
    I had a Peace Lily years ago. Mum tried a few times to get me to take one of hers as she would separate them at repotting. Once I decided I did want one she had gotten rid of all hers. When you snooze you lose . . .

    First of all I must compliment you on your personality and you are so very humble truly relaxing to watch your video!! Not trying to sound fuzzy butt I usually cannot watch a video on UA-cam very long due to the annoyance in someone's Voice or long-winded lbs! Anyway pretty sure that your succulent you have in the Pokemon pot is a Echeveria or Chroma and didn't know if you knew but if any of your leaves on your succulent ever fall off you can easily propagate a whole new plant I am doing it so myself for the first time! Anyways fellow plant/nature lover again it was a pleasure, have a good day! #GoodVibes

    very useful :) lately it's been really hot here in California and my Lily started drooping. I give it water but I don't see any pregress. I also moved her to another spot in the house where it's not so hot. I think it's thirsty and the soil has been so dry so everyday I been putting some water. I'm not going to today and I'll see what hapens. I don't want my plant to die :(

    Very thorough thank you. Approximately how often do you spray the whole plant with water? Also what fertilizer did you use if you don't mind me asking. The leaves are so glossy and beautiful. I think the plant responds to the love it is given.

    • @HousePlantJournal
      @HousePlantJournal  9 років тому +3

      +shdjs Thanks :) I only do this spraying 3-4 times a year. The fertilizer is 10-15-10. I use it as directed for the "weakly weekly" method (7-8 drops per 1L water about every week).

    I've had a peace lily from my Nana for about 5 years now, and it's grown a lot of new leaves. Recently, the leaves have started to turn a lighter green and almost yellowing. Should I think about repotting it? or any plant food tips? Thanks you for your helpful videos.

      I had the same problem and it's because the soil has run out of nutrients. There are some liquid fertilizer but be careful with the instructions as they can get too much and get sick. Spring is a good time to get some liquid fertilizer mixed with clean water, in my case no tap water! cause is really harsh. Good luck with your baby :)

    Hi Darryl...you didn't mention the shot w all those brown tips and how you fixed them. My lower bottoms the smaller leaves are turning yellow = /
    However I do have 1 lily and another one wants to bloom. I really want to nurse this instead of killing it. Tyvm

    • @darrylcheng7062
      @darrylcheng7062 3 роки тому

      There is no "fixing" brown tips or yellowed leaves. In the long run, new leaves grow and continually replace older ones that die off. Free yourself from the binary mindset of "happy vs. killing" and you will truly enjoy plants. This peace lily is still looking great after 6 years - many leaves have died off but many new ones have grown.

    If you keep the plant in a pot and placed in a container with water, the plant will do well, not too much sun needed, light yes and moderate sun. If leaves look burned, clip them off.

    Hi, I wanted to ask if you trim the flowers when they go from white to green? Ive seen people on YT cut them at the base when that happens, but that worried me - just because its turned green doesnt mean its dead right? Or does it? I just assumed it had reached the end of its cycle and was now just like a leaf...But should I be trimming them at the base when they turn green?
    I bought mine from IKEA a couple of weeks ago, and in just one week half the leaves rotted and died...about 10 or more...at that point I'd watered it once....the soil at that time was still damp, so I didnt think it needed water....i thought maybe the roots rotted because of TOO much water, perhaps they were overwatering at IKEA? Im keeping an eye on it and checking to see how damp or dry the soil is, so I can water on time...im in the UK and its not been very sunny lately though we are in June, the sunlight isnt at all strong, so I've kept the plant near the window so it gets the little light that comes in. Can I ask how often I should fertilize the plant?
    Last Q - what is the best way to tell if the soil is too dry other than sticking my finger in?

    • @pauljarvis7386
      @pauljarvis7386 5 років тому +1

      It's because he's using tap water.. the PH level maybe too high, not to mention all the chlorine,fluoride and other chemicals in the water can damage the plant. I always use rain water or my aquarium water...depending on the plants needs for nutrients and i dont have brown tips...if you can't get rain or RO/aquarium water then you could just add tap safe aquarium liquid like aquasafe or something like that..it will get rid of all the chemicals. You can also buy a PH tester kit, if your tap water is too high, you can just buy PH lower kit to soften it..all very cheap stuff which will sort out this problem.

    Why do you have brown tip on your peace Lilly leaves ?

      Brown tips will eventually form on older leaves - nothing wrong with it.

    It's really 😥 and to bad when someone decides to post an educational video on UA-cam knowing that many people will use there videos as references or guides or whatever it may be and fail to follow up with there loyal audience who are in need of further assistance , wether it be a question or something else in the video being referenced by the viewer and the owner of the video Simply ignores these comments that to some are very important and are looking to you for answers or perhaps in need of advice pertaing the subject matter that would provide additional information that may even be crucial that cannot be found anywhere else! There's quite a few videos I've stumbled upon including this video that contains useful information leaving viewers including myself with questions or comments and many are very useful and important for there education, research or in my case for a reference about the proper care of my newly rescued peace lily that surly would have died if I didn't assume responsibility for but now I need to know how to keep it alive! It's a shame to see all these wonderful comments and questions about such a beautiful subject matter just go ignored as well as my comment that will never be viewed by the owner of this video simply because they go unseen and ignored, or maybe it's laziness and lack of compassion because they only post for earning money on adds and if that's the reason then that's lame and especially not fair considering the individual providing this information has also used UA-cam as a resource I'm sure! Im also sure they would identify with my frustration in my opinion today in my public comment! So my message is.... for all of you who post videos that would be of interest and resourceful information to others please follow up with your audience and do the right thing, respond to you're audience by interacting and communicating through a process that's been made available by this wonderful sight (that's being misused everyday in my opinion) especially if you're going to make a quick Buck off of us! If you cannot do that then create your videos that do not provide the ability for others to comment and ask questions so people are not wasting their time on you with your dead end useless information!

    how come my peace lily has one or two yellow leaves? they're bottom leaves. I thought it was due to overwatering so I watered it less but now it's more droopy :( I'm confused

    • @HousePlantJournal
      @HousePlantJournal  4 роки тому +1

      Older leaves will turn yellow and eventually brown. You simply cut them off - and thank them for their contribution to photosynthesis. Yellowing leaves is NOT a sign of overwatering! Put the plant where it will have the best possible light; watering strategy: keep evenly moist; and let Nature take its course - older leaves will eventually die. Just cut them off :)

      @@HousePlantJournal okay, thank you! I had hoped they were yellow due to age! I live in a north facing apartment but I keep it by the window where it's bright... hopefully that's okay?
