Great video and I understand the sight tape setup using the bottom pin, but what about the pins above? Don't you have to gap those first and then set up the bottom pin allowing you to use that bottom pin for farther shots?
So if I sight in my top pin at 20 do I use my same top pin at 60 to get the correct calibration tape? then when I get that set on my bull knob I would use my top pin if I wanted to shoot 70 yards that is indicated on the tape?
That is correct....use the same pin to shoot at both 20 and out to 60 to find the correct tape. If you use that 20yd pin, yes you'd then use that as your floater. I prefer to use the 60yd (or whatever your botton pin is) as my floater since it's a .10 rather than a .19 and works better at longer ranges. But, that's personal preference.
Thank you for the video, it was very informative. I'm still a little unclear on how to set your floater. I already have my XL 3 pin set up for 20, 30 and 40 yards. I want the bottom pin to be my floater. If I do the 20 and 60 yard calibration with my top pin since it's already sighted in, how do I translate that to my bottom pin as the floater? Thanks!
Hey there! Since you're already got your tape selection done, just line up the purple pointer with 40yds on the tape since that'll be your bottom pin yardage and the one that floats. You should be good to go then! Thanks for watching!
@@BackwoodsPursuit Thanks for the reply! I haven't actually done the sight tape selection yet, I should have watched this video before sighting in the rest of my pins! I like your suggestion of just setting the indicator pin to my 40 yard mark, is there any loss of accuracy with that method since the 40 yard pin wouldn't have been the one to select the sight tape? I potentially have enough movement in my sight to remove the slide stop and roll my 40 yard pin up to 20. Would that be more accurate than calibrating with my existing 20 yard pin and adjusting my indicator like you suggested initially?
@@emaxim1 either way will work just fine. I just like using my bottom pin for the sight tape because I've got a .10 for my bottom pin rather than the .19 for my top couple pins, so I feel like I'm a bit more accurate with the .10 at 60yds. If you have a .19 for all your pins, it won't matter though.
I need a video explaining how to sight in the other pins as I have a 3 pin fast eddie on the way and im a visual Learner. No video on UA-cam explains how to set the fixed pins on the fast eddie. If i use my bottom pin as my floater then when I sight the 2 top pins in what if my 30 yard pin is too close to my 40 yard pin? Changing the position of the floater would throw off the sight tape. So thats where my confusion starts.
Hey there! I finally got around to putting together that video on setting up each of the individual pins on the Spot Hogg sights. Here it is if you still need it! ua-cam.com/video/5DQ8ljR4eYs/v-deo.html Thanks!
Stupid question, having a hard time determining where the dial is landed on after getting to 60 yards. The black line would indicated the number in between the red numbers correct? I'm either on 30 or 31. Thank you!
Hey Travis! The other pins make the sight function like a fixed pin sight so you don't have to move the sight unless you are shooting at extended ranges where you need the slider. Effectively it's a fixed pin most of the time with the ability to move when needed using the bottom pin as the slider. Does that make sense?
Hey there! You can either pin gap for 35 yards (assume you have a 30 and 40yd pin), or you can use your floating pin (bottom pin) and roll the sight up to 35 on the tape and use the bottom pin. Thanks for watching!
I just got the single pin model, and the instructions don't mention setting the second and third axis, so I don't need to worry about that, right? Sorry, I'm new to these.
Hey there! Even with the single pin, you'll need to set your 2nd and 3rd axis. Those are both critical to being accurate, especially at longer ranges. I've got another video here on the channel on how to set the 2nd and 3rd axis on these sights. Thanks for watching!

Hey there Joe! Sounds like you may need to move your sight bracket to get your top pin closer with the sight rolled all the way up. There are two Allen bolts that allow you to move the entire sight housing up or down, so unscrew those and move the housing accordingly, then you should be a lot closer. Let me know if that works! Thanks for watching!

Hey Zach! When finding the sight tape, you are looking to find the tape number with corresponding pin gap, so you want to use the same pin when shooting 20 and 60yds.... doesn't matter which pin though. I just used the 60yd pin because it was a .10, which makes shooting at 60yds more precise. Thanks for watching!
Well, kinda.....that's only true once you move the sight and begin using the bottom pin as the floater. The other pins can be used for quick reference, but obviously they will chance depending on what distance you are at (if you've moved from the starting, or baseline position). Thanks for watching!
Thank you for the video. Do you have any issues with your tight spot quiver bracket being in the way of you dove tail knob Adjustment In and out? My tight spot bracket hits the the thread of the bold knob. Had to use the short Allen bolt instead
Never mind. Just watched your video on set up and it answered my question 👍 Just subbed! Do you have to re sight in if you move the dove tail in or out?
@@jasonbellows7 thanks for the sub and glad the video answered the question! If you move your dovetail in or out you might have to make a small change, but I haven't had to yet when messing with that. Thanks for watching!
Also.. if you set the bottom pin at 20 then roll down to find 60 slaps the tape on there, does that mean now your top pin won’t be 20 ,30,40,50 very confused haha
Hey again! No....think of using that bottom pin at 20 then 60yds as just to find your sight tape. Once you've done that using the calibration tape they provide, peel off the calibration tape, grab your correct sight tape and line up the 60yd mark on the tape with the purple pointer. From there you'll need to sight in each individual pin (except the 60yd pin). Here is a video I put together on that process to help. Thanks for watching! ua-cam.com/video/GpBEnZ3RiMo/v-deo.html
You can do it either way really, but I like to do the sight tape first personally. Thanks for watching and let me know if you have any other questions!
So I have the exact same 5 pin sight. I'm trying to get it sighted in. I was told to sight my top pin for 20, then use the bottom(5th) pin as the mover and sight it in for 60. Is that correct or am I missing something? Seems like you may have done something slightly different.
@@BackwoodsPursuit thank you so much for the reply! Idk why the instructions they provide arent more clear, especially for the price. Ok so 1 more question, from what I understand I just sight in all the pins as normal right? So when do I move the bull knob?
@@Ranger_k16 absolutely! Yup...just sight in the pins as you normally would with any 5 pin sight, then you go through the process in the video to find the correct sight tape(you can actually find the correct sight tape first as well... doesn't matter). Then, once you have the pins sighted in and the correct sight tape selected and installed, you may need to use the sight housing adjustment that moves the whole housing (not the nob, the screw) to bring it back to being sighted in, depending on where you want your "zero" to be with the big nob. Does that make sense?
@@BackwoodsPursuit ya that mostly explains it. I guess the one thing I'm not understanding is where the align the pointer to. Do I line it up with the 20? That doesnt seem right since if my 5th pin(60) is my floater, wouldnt I need to put the pointer at 60? Or are you saying that I need to move the bull knob up so the 5th pin is set to 20? Idk why this is so confusing but I appreciate you taking the time to explain it as best as possible.
@@Ranger_k16 no problem at all! Yeah, you'll line up the purple pointer with your 5th (bottom) pin, so that the only time you will move the nob is when you want to shoot past 60yds. Then the 5th pin becomes your floater/movable pin. Sounds like you are almost there!
You'll basically use the sight as a 5 pin (or 3 pin if you have that model) and only use the slider functionality if you want to dial to an exact distance or a distance longer than you bottom pin. That make sense?
@@BackwoodsPursuit I was confused as well, since twice you said to “sight your bottom pin to 20 yards.” If you sight your bottom pin to 20 yards, what are you sighting the top four pins at?
@@sombojoe you just are sighting in the bottom pin to 20yds, then putting the sight tape calibration tape on there to find the correct sight tape for your bow setup. Hey Christa! You can still do it at 20 and 50yds, but just can't use the calibration tape that Spot Hogg provided. Just use a blank white label and put it in there, sight in at 20, then sight the same pin in at 50yds (doesn't matter which pin), and then find the sight tape that matches your 20 / 50yd pin gap(on the dial). @@BackwoodsPursuit so I went and sited in my 20 yd pin. I used the top pin. Once I have correct tape will bottom pin be 30 yds? Is that how it works? So when I’m hunting I won’t need to turn the dial to 30yds when I go to shoot a deer?
@@christaluongo8919 how many pins does your sight have? If it's a 3 pin, your top would be 20, 2md would be 30, and 3rs would be 40, so anything past 40 would be what you use the dial for. Does that make sense?
Thank you for the feedback and thanks for watching! So glad it was helpful! Dont hesitate to reach out if you have any other questions as you get it dialed in.
We need more detailed instruction on the three pin Spot Hogg. Are we supposed to sight in all three pins first, 20-30- 40 with the dial maxed to the top . Then place the guide tape at 20 which in theory is where your first pin was sighted in at 20. Then we shoot while adjusting the dial down till we center at 60 yards using the previously sighted to 40 yard pin...? Confusion Starts Here ! That spot on the dial now becomes where we place the 60 yard mark from the selected yardage tape. I imagine that the guide and dial are moved to accommodate a 50 yard shot, only using the bottom pin ( 40 yard Pin ). So the three pins we originally sighted in at 20-30-40 will not work unless we have the dial back at 20 yards . Furthermore, if we use the 40m yard pin ( Floater ) it should be dialed to the entire Dials yardage settings...? 20- 100 yards...? Does this sound like the correct manner to sight in the Three Pin .. Thanks
Hey there! Some great questions. I think you are on the right track though. The three pin is basically the same as the 5 pin, but you use the 3rd pin as the floater (if you set it up as I did in the video), and that 3rd pin is used to sight in at 20, set the calibration tape on there, then work your way out to 60 yds using that same bottom pin (floater). Once you are sighted in at 60 using the bottom pin, whatever dial the number is pointing at is the tape number you'll use. You can "zero" your sight wherever works best for your bow setup. Some people like it starting all the way to the top, and others don't. The three pins you sighted in only represent 20-30-40 when the sight is at the "zero" position, so yes, you are correct there. I hope that helps! Happy shooting!
That's a tough question as I like different things about each of them. I prefer the smoothness of the dial on the Spot Hogg, but the location of the sight tape on the Black Gold. I like the smaller sight housing of the Black Gold but the MRT system is pretty nice too. The Spot Hogg seems like it's more durable, but it's also a bit heavier. I'd give the edge to Black Gold on the pins as well, but just barley. At the end of the day I lean toward the Black Gold (between the ones I've tested), but they are both excellent sights!
Good question! You can make your own tape(add a white label) below the 100yd mark and then make you own custom marks for 105, 110 etc if you have enough arrow clearance.
Great video. If you set your slider to 60, what are your other five pins set at? I was setting up my Fast Eddie XL sight with the assumption that the fixed pins would be 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 and then use the 20 as the slider. You show that the 60 is the slider. Does this effect how you have your fixed pin yardage?
Hey there and thanks! Your fixed pin yardage won't change if you were to use your 60yd pin as the slider, you'd just change the position of the tape. Pretty easy switch once you know what tape to use. Let me know if you have any other questions!
So if your slider is set at 60 and you have your tape still turned for it to be 60, then your top 4 pins are going to be what? 50, 40, 30, and 20 automatically because we found we needed tape number 19 (in this video) and it accounts for that? Because just moving dial for bottom pin seems like treating it like just a single pin adjustable site which we might not have time to adjust or ability if at full draw on a moving target that started at 60 but is now 30. Is that correct?
Great question! Yes, once you get your sight tape selected (in this case #19) and install your tape, the other pins can then be sighted in at 20, 30, 40, 50, and 60. If you have a 3 pin, same thing, sight the pin in like would would any fixed pin sight. The slider simply allows you to dial in the distance you want using that 60 yard pin (as I've got it set up anyway) for longer distances or if you want an exact distance, say 37yds using the floater pin. In all reality, I don't use the slider function in hunting situation very often as I typically will just pin gap rather than move the sight, and I definitely prefer not to take shots longer than 60yds on animals. But, it does give you the option, which can be nice. Does that help? Thanks for watching!
Backwoods Pursuit yes I think so. So tape #19 essentially takes into account draw weight changes for the bow? Thank you for the great video and further info.
@@thomasbenton8241 kind of. Tape #19 is what this bow with this exact draw weight, draw length and arrow setup liked. If you changed any of those aspects, you'd need to reset for a new sight tape.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll see if I can put one together as I've gotten a couple requests for that video. Thanks!

Stupid question, having a hard time determining where the dial is landed on after getting to 60 yards. The black line would indicated the number in between the red numbers correct? I'm either on 30 or 31. Thank you!

Question, what si the point of all the other pins if you just use the bottom one?
Hey Travis! The other pins make the sight function like a fixed pin sight so you don't have to move the sight unless you are shooting at extended ranges where you need the slider. Effectively it's a fixed pin most of the time with the ability to move when needed using the bottom pin as the slider. Does that make sense?
What pin would be 35yds ? The bottom floating pin or 20 moved down ?
Hey there! You can either pin gap for 35 yards (assume you have a 30 and 40yd pin), or you can use your floating pin (bottom pin) and roll the sight up to 35 on the tape and use the bottom pin. Thanks for watching!
what are the pin yardage increments for this sight?
Hey! You can make them whatever you want, but I had them set at 20-60 in 10 yard increments.

Quick question. Thanks for any help
Why did you use the bottom pin sight in at 20?
Since your bottom pin is your floater, the rest become useless right??
Well, kinda.....that's only true once you move the sight and begin using the bottom pin as the floater. The other pins can be used for quick reference, but obviously they will chance depending on what distance you are at (if you've moved from the starting, or baseline position). Thanks for watching!

Hey again! No....think of using that bottom pin at 20 then 60yds as just to find your sight tape. So I have the exact same 5 pin sight. I'm trying to get it sighted in. I was told to sight my top pin for 20, then use the bottom(5th) pin as the mover and sight it in for 60. Is that correct or am I missing something? Seems like you may have done something slightly different.
Hey there! Yeah, sounds like the same way I have it set up....top pin or 20 and 5th pin (bottom pin) for 60yds, and then the bottom pin is the mover.
Good video, i have the two pin, but id be taking that crooked install right off!! Hahahaha

So what are the rest of the pins for if you’re only using 1? How would you use the others?
You'll basically use the sight as a 5 pin (or 3 pin if you have that model) and only use the slider functionality if you want to dial to an exact distance or a distance longer than you bottom pin. That make sense?
@@BackwoodsPursuit
I was confused as well, since twice you said to “sight your bottom pin to 20 yards.” If you sight your bottom pin to 20 yards, what are you sighting the top four pins at?

Hey Christa! You can still do it at 20 and 50yds, but just can't use the calibration tape that Spot Hogg provided. Just use a blank white label and put it in there, sight in at 20, then sight the same pin in at 50yds (doesn't matter which pin), and then find the sight tape that matches your 20 / 50yd pin gap(on the dial). Might not be quite as accurate as doing 20 and 60yds, but it'll still be very very close

What pin did you sight in at 20 yards
I used my 20yd pin, but you can use any really.
We need more detailed instruction on the three pin Spot Hogg.
Are we supposed to sight in all three pins first, 20-30- 40 with the dial maxed to the top
.
Black gold or spot hogg? Which do you like the best?
That's a tough question as I like different things about each of them. I prefer the smoothness of the dial on the Spot Hogg, but the location of the sight tape on the Black Gold. I like the smaller sight housing of the Black Gold but the MRT system is pretty nice too. The Spot Hogg seems like it's more durable, but it's also a bit heavier. I'd give the edge to Black Gold on the pins as well, but just barley. At the end of the day I lean toward the Black Gold (between the ones I've tested), but they are both excellent sights!
I need help with mine I don't understand it.
Hey there! What part can I help with?
How do you all shoot past 100?
So the bottom pin should be 20? I thought the top pin was supposed to be 20?
Hey there! The top pin is still 20yds. You can just use the bottom pin as a 20yd pin, then a 60yd pin to find the right sight tape. That make sense?
@@brandonhom6390 not 100% sure what you are asking, but yeah, use the bottom (or top) pin at 20yds, install the calibration tape with the purple arrow pointing at 20yds. Then, using that same pin, work your way out to 60yds by rolling the dial down(so the whole housing is moving). When that same pin is now sighted in at 60yds, look at the calibration tape and it'll tell you which tape number to install. Make sense?
