I'm actually glad I knew nothing about League when I watched this. Jinx's story hit way more hard because I really had no idea what was coming. Incredible stuff.
Well actually that's kinda the magic of Arcane even for people who are invested in the lore. We didn't know the details of Jinx's story to this extent. The most we got was that "one day she just snapped" and we never knew when, how, or why. Character interactions in the game dating back to 2017 actually hinted at some sort of secret in her past and it's incredible that this show finally revealed it.
not knowing Jinx and watching her story was like watching a trainrack in unfold in slowmotion from the first sit it's a continuum series of disasters that could all been avoided, had any one of the elements involved change somehow yet they didn't and now she's gone, her world is in shambles and all cry it's a sort of dostoevskian tragedy, it's visceral, gut wrenching, and much like a trainrack you can avoid but stare at it it's the hardest type of tragedy the write and it's even harder to write it right but every time it's done it's nothing short of a masterpiece
Like six years ago, one of the oldest characters got a rework. Occasionally when this person interacts with Vi, they will ask her "who taught you to punch?" or something like that. They been planning this for a damn long time it's incredible. Also, i'm being vague about who it is for spoilers sake.
The first thing I noticed was the literal weight of everything, when they’re jumping across rooftops you feel the weight difference between each of them. You really feel the power or lack thereof behind everything and that’s just an incredible credit to the animation.
I truly, truly hope Riot takes their time with future seasons. Apparently, Arcane took 6 years to develop, which admittedly is too long between seasons, but maybe now after its massive success, they will have more resources to produce it quicker. However, I really wish they don't rush it, because that will result in a massive disappointment. Arcane is fantastic, but the bar is now high.
Kinda late to the party, but this first season REEKS of a super-long pre-production stage where they absolutely bolt down the production pipeline and the tech, designs and long-term story waaay in advance. That's the only way to get something so coherent and polished out the door. They probably spent more than half of those 6 years just preparing to start working. I wouldn't be surprised if pre-production for S2 was done before S1 dropped. S2 might already be half finished for all we know.
they do indeed have much more resources! and the good news (?) is that it won’t come out this year, probably around 2023-2025 They also hired new employees! and their funds risen, they also immediately wrote the script and story of arcane season 2 just after finishing season 1
@@WhiteWingedDarknessX They didn't yet but what many people are missing is the fact that it took Riot 6 years from the first time the concept of Arcane was brought up to it being finished and they talked extensively how they had several problems with production, finding talent and voice actors and not to forget Studio Fortice wasn't focused on Arcane, Arcane was more of a passionate side project next to their bomb cinematics and their music videos. Now however with more of a focus on Arcane and most of the things like VAs already set, it will be way faster and the indication is pretty strong that Arcane S2 might actually drop in 2023
@@WhiteWingedDarknessX no, they did not say anything of the sort. What you're probably refering to is the tweet from Riot's CEO, Nicolo Laurent. What he said was that season 2 won't be taking 6 years to come out but also won't be coming in 2022. No confirmation of any kind has been announced for season 2 but late 2023 to 2024 is a pretty good estimate in my opinion.
when the credits rolled in the last episode i was like "IT JUST ENDS THERE???" Just the fact that so much attention to detail went into an animated series makes me so happy as an artist and aspiring animator. Each episode is 40 MINUTES LONG and every second is amazing. You usually only see this kind of quality in big studios like disney, pixar and all that. It's so nice to see stuff like spiderverse and arcane bringing something new to a mainstream audience. Can't wait for season 2.
thats one of the few examples of "she did the thing!" in the series where you sort of have to know what "the thing" is for jinx. to anyone who has played league, knows the lore at all, etc, that was an insanely poggers ending. all of jinx's character buildup was pointing to the moment she pulls out her ultimate, and then seeing the council watching the SMDR come in, seeing that one lady pop what we think was a zhonyas (or possibly a locket of the iron solari), etc, was fucking cool
Fortiche absolutely killed it! Even if the story sucked, I still would've watched and enjoyed Arcane just because of how gorgeous it is. Fortiche also made the original Get Jinxed music video for Jinx's release and the K/DA - Popstars music video (possibly others too, but this is all I know off the top of my head). You can really see the evolution of their style through the years and just what they are capable of when they're given the budget.
@@mint7966 I think he worded it badly, he said Even if it sucked meaning it didn't, but even if it was horrible he still would have watched simply for the animation
As someone who's never played League; I was shocked at how good Arcane was. The animation, writing, characters, and dialog are just incredible and I expect the show to get multiple Emmy nominations. Arcane is the new standard for video game adaptations and animated stories in general.
Arcane will never become the new standard, sadly. This kind of effort, budget, talent and time will never become standard. Maybe Riot can afford that level of production, but there are not many others. Even Castlevania is considered pretty good as an adaptation, technical qualities wise, and even that is not standard!
I also never played the game, and I could care less. Just watched the series and it rocks period. And that’s the highest complement when you don’t have to be a fan girl or boy to appreciate a great show.
@@teaMmMate I mean, money talks. some studios still shit the bed even with a good budget I'm guessing. i really hope it becomes the standard. capitalism lend us your support then u can fuck off lol.
if you told me 5 years ago, "someday gigguk will make a video on how amazing the league of legends show is" I would have laughed so hard id burst a lung
i mean… riot has shown since basically always that they KNOW how to story tell and make amazing animations and everything revolving around it. fans were always adamant about riot just HAVING to make a movie, a series, anything on a larger scale of what they have been doing so far. its been in discussion for years and years and finally the fans got something. and we all knew it had the potential to be really fucking good. i am just very happy they didnt blow it like they do with their game itself.
I watched Arcane yesterday after having absolutely nothing to do, so I figured I might as well watch the League show. Anyway, after not sleeping and binging the entire show, it’s a solid 13/10 and I genuinely already want to watch it again.
The only downside to Arcane being a goddamn masterpiece is that it’s genuinely got me curious as to whether League is really actually that bad. Like, one of my friends has been addicted for years, they’d play it with me, I wouldn’t have to go in alone...should I take the plunge?
@@trombonemain Honestly if you want a game that shows more about the other regions, characters, some dialogue between them, and so on... Play Legends of Runeterra. It's their card game and no, you don't need to pay for packs of random cards with a chance to get what you want, as most card games do... You can progress for free and get more cards the more you play. This game definitely doesn't have the same amount of Champions (Main Characters) like League of Legends, although they all belong in there. I just think it's easier to learn a card game. But if you want to try the MOBA with your friend, why not. It's just harder to get to know how to play, and it doesn't explore much of the characters that exist in the World besides the champions.
Nah. I mean do as you like, but game got butchered over the years with bad balancing practices etc. Used to be pretty good in the earlier seasons, but now its kinda meh. If you are not going to play competitively might as well give it a shot though.
Bruh when Vi put on that glove I literally lost my shit. Didn't even hit anything with it yet, and I had become so engrossed in the story I legitimately forgot she even used power fists. I had a similar reaction to Jayce, as well. It's even better because even if you have zero LoL knowledge, or aren't a fan, those scenes were still satisfying in their own right. Specifically in Vi's case, her surrogate father also wielded a power fist, so in essence she was carrying the family torch. On the topic of Jayce, though, I was hyped all the way through it; he used his knockback on one of the guys on the bridge, and brought up his electric field before finally transforming it and blasting away. It was like a hype rollercoaster, and it just kept going up.
I knew very little about leauge just whatever my friend would show me cause he played it and when i saw that scene with jace shooting I had that feeling that it was "the thing" even without knowing his moves at all. It was too epic to not have been the thing.
You wanna know something funny? I NEVER played League, never knew ANYTHING about League. Totally and completely ignorant about ANYTHING regarding League. But at that scene, I was sufficiently hyped to the point that even I had the feeling that he was doing "a" thing. Didn't know what, didn't know why, all I knew instantly is that was "a" thing XD I'm guessing it was because of the care in the animation. They DEFINITELY animated it in such a way that oozes catharsis XD
This show was an A+, I randomly said out loud “this show is so effing good” many times during this season. I hope it gets a lot of credit for the teams that made this gem of an animated series. It deserves a lot of awards.
Even my 73-year-old housemate, a quiet old woman who was a friend of my late mother, loved Arcane. After she watched the show she kept coming down the hall to my bedroom to talk about it. And she _hates_ animation normally.
Shit, my mom has been enjoying it. She's never been against this sort of stuff necessarily, but definitely not one to pursue it on her own. I walked out into the living room the other day and saw her watching it. It's awesome that people are getting exposed to it. I hate league as a game, but the universe they'd eluded to in the tidbits of lore was always fantastic.
i can't really call Arcane an "animation" just because it looks like one. i see it more as a movie, in an animated skin. too much emotion and story in it to call it an "animation". but that's just me
@@ragael1024 it doesn't look like one. It is one. A good one. Dw. It doesn't make you a weeb if that's what you're worried about. Otherwise what you just said was nonsense. Disrespectful to the animators, voice actors and the thousands of hours they out into it.
I cannot express in words just how incredible Arcane turned out to be. Every single aspect of the show is given the attention it deserves. Writing. Audio. Voice acting. The insane fucking visuals and animation. It's all next level and sets a really high bar for anything else that tries to enter the game adapted animation zone.
And prior to this I'd say the bar was raised by the Castlevania series. Here's hoping that studio can get the rights to make a Metroid series like they want to.
Yes! I watched this with my mom and she commented how amazing it was that we were rewinding it constantly just to read different people's faces and that someone had to draw every bit of emotion that we were trying to read.
The thing that slightly scares me about Arcane is how the characters are more expressive than real life people, like man, the people I've met don't look like they have had a life to live lmao
For real, what got me was Powder's expressions at the end of act 1 when Vi abandons her. It's more than just "crying sad face". It's a combination of powerful and warped emotions of betrayal, guilt, anger, denial all within about a minute of animation and you can tell that this is something like Powder has never experienced. It's incredible
@@anarchyfork2676 Thats because it’s a stylised realism approach to animation, key frame animation instead of motion capture. (Which isn’t as good as keyframe because it’s more expensive and complicated.
I finished Arcane for the 1st time today and OMG, the story feels like the consequences of the world that the characters live in, this show it's so beautifully written... and the animation it's GORGEOUS.
I'm also late to this party but holy fuck, Arcane lives up to the hype! I fell in love with Powder/Jinx's character so much. This show is like the Game of Thrones of the animation series in the modern time and that isn't even an exaggeration.
@@erickvallee2548 It's going to be animated peak. Fortiche and Riot are taking their time and I'm all for it. Hopefully they do it for Beyond the Spiderverse because I know Across the Spiderverse had some poor working conditions that could rival the likes of Studio MAPPA.
I know people who absolutely despise League and rated this show as a masterpiece. That means a lot. Arcane’s storytelling, animation, music, everything about it is simply top tier.
Well the last time I played league was like 5-6years ago and still believe the game is crap. But Arcane legit made me realize how vast and intriguing the world of league actually is.
Lol, a lot of verified accounts from different countries, and even this legend who I already see it in other videos of Arcane. Truly Arcane deserves every bit of praise and every award out there. I have NEVER seen something that good, and I have watched a lot of good stuff.
Okay, may I say something from an artist's perspective? I absolutely ADORE the way they showed the contrast between Piltover and Zuan by just giving you a couple looks into the scenery. Piltover is tall, and progressive, with clear skies, and a color palette of blues, gold, bronze, creams, and a few shades of warm brown. It shows you that Piltover is very well-off, and clearly a lovely place to live, and with the sky-ships, it lets you as the viewers SEE that Piltover is a city of fortune and progress. And only a few minutes later, we see Zuan for the first time. Immediately everything is darker, smokier. A color palette of neon green, purples, copper, and iron, everything is slightly browned and burnt looking, and we see how much more crowded and compact Zuan is, seeming to be covered in perpetual smoke and dust, compared to the open skies and whimsical nature of Piltover. Claggor, Mylo, Vi, and Powder look out-of-place in piltover, with their grungy clothes and dirty skin. Like they've been put in the wrong place by the author. But the second we enter Zuan they look RIGHT, even though it's technically the same city, they feel completely different.
Fellow artist here and I completely agree with everything you say. Like how the over all city itself tells the story, when you see Piltover you knew it's a place for prosperity, wealth, fortune, power and progress while Zuan is a place of poverty, violence, greed, and misery. If you are in Piltover you know you're safe and free but in Zuan it's much grimmer. I like how the overall setting builds the characters as well.
I disagree! Mylo was wearing a new shirt!! Jokes aside I completely agree, it was an incredible way of showing rather than telling, describing the lives of the characters in a deeper way, having bits of symbolism to create a narrative foundation, in which they use to build and fill up with incredible bits of texture.
I feel like many people misunderstand the scene in episode 9 where Silco talks to the statue of Vander. Silco has finally understood. He's finally understood why Vander chose to leave the Revolution. He understands how caring for a daughter changes you that much.
You're exactly right, this along with his death scene brings Sisco's character arc full circle where he dies at the same scenario his brother did. It just makes his last words that are a reassurance to his daughter figure that he loved her and just wants the best for her, even if what Sisco thinks (rejecting VI, going rogue away from the city) isn't exactly morally right, all the more painful as Vander's own death.
This is what i literally been telling people holy. Silco never understood Vander until the same thing happened to him. Caring about someone, wanting to protect it and never wanting to be left with it alone is what he lacks. All the things he have done, he was ready to throw it away just to not give Jinx to Jayce. Silco is probably my favourite character in the show
The moment magic was introduced to the story, I expected Powder to have some kind of cool primal magic and be the most powerful of them all or whatever because she's the runt of the litter. OHHHHHH BOYYYYY. I was SO wrong. We didn't get a happy-go-lucky series with a happy ending. We got a heartwrenching down-to-earth, relatable series that just leaves you stunned.
Silco is insanely misunderstood, and had me absolutely sobbing in the end. This show is is, sincerely, a masterpiece. Edit: Just to clarify, I meant that Silco is misunderstood by everyone in the show. Its not complicated for us to understand him.
I admit. I hate him as a villain. He responsible for Vander's death. He manipulate the undercity with Shimmer. He used kids as factory labor. But I also sad to see him gone. One thing he care for sure is Jinx. Silco questioned Vander being weak because of the kids. However, Silco ended up having to agree with Vander when pressured by Jayce on giving up Jinx to the Piltover jurisdiction. The root story between Silco and Vander are not explored much in the story. But, I know for sure that these two were once a dynamic team fighting for what is right for the undercity.
He is not misunderstood at all. He is twisted and a criminal BUT he is not ALL bad and you can still see where he is coming from. He genuinely cares for Jinx and his ultimate goal was the free nation of Zaun. And even when he finally had the chance to get it, he wouldn't have given up Jinx in exchange. That's why that scene with Silco drinking beside Vander's statue is so good. "Is there anything so undoing as a daughter?" Silco finally understood Vander.
@@aliffsuhaimi1466 What Silco understood in the end wasn't Vander's weakness for children, it was the pain he must have felt when being forced to choose between his brother and all of Zaun.
I can imagine this show reaching MCU levels of popularity. They dont even have to do much at this point either. Like you mentioned the League world is gigantic. All they have to do is slowly grow the cast of character and bring us to different parts of the world. Eventually we will be in this larger than life world with characters who at one point were human but now are legendary. hah see what i did there
@@hamza-trabelsi league has a huge lore but idk about that one, the MCU was based on the comics which had literally published thousands of stories for around 70 years......
@@hamza-trabelsi They did not compare Runeterra to the MCU in terms of lore, stories or world building. They specifically compared them in popularity. The MCU is massively popular across the globe. They are saying that they can imagine Arcane reaching those same levels of popularity.
@@weirdbro6597 I think don't think Runeterra compares in Quantity or even Quality of the best of Marvel/DC's stories. However, unlike Marvel or DC, Runeterra has been retcon/rewritten and molded to be ready for adaption unlike comicbooks which have to struggle to decades of stories into only 2 hour length films. League has the benefit of being a Moba and a Game that people have given up on a consistent lore for. That sounds like a weakness, but then again so have Comicbook fans given up on a consistent timeline, a fluid story can be innovated on and reworked until it's perfected. Comicbooks have realized that the most important parts of a story is not what it is about, but WHO it is about. Characters we care about could sit down and eat a meal and it'll be infinitely more interesting than randoms saving the world in the next comic. League of Legends has characters that are designed to be beloved, this is what franchises are built on. Beloved Characters, Quality/Relatable Work, and the ability to move those Characters into any type of Story and it will still work.
I'm really glad I didn't get into league before watching this, like Viktor was probably my favorite character throughout the show, and I don't think I could have cared nearly as much if I knew who his champion was and therefore who he must become. I had no idea which characters were League champions vs. just normal characters which means I didn't ascribe importance to them before getting to know them.
I was happy that it’s been so long I played League that I only had very vague memories of champions and forgot things like hair color or what their thing was supposed to be and stuff like that. So that they started them out as kids, I really had no idea who was who except for maybe like Silco and Heirmendinger, which felt like yeah those are the people from the thing. So when everything went down with Powder it wasn’t until pretty late that I started to have the pieces click. It really catches you off guard.
Spoilers I guess: But Viktor is not a villain in the game either. I don't understand why so many people I see always say they thought Viktor was gonna use Jayce and how he is gonna become a villain when its not how his lore is at all. He is a nice guy that thinks everything wrong with the world is due to human error, and does what he can to improve his own and everyone elses life. He goes very far in the Enhancements he makes to himself, but he is not pushing it on anybody who does not want his help, and is never portrayed as a villain.
@@Vario69 His voice is the most menacing part. His voice lines are not that menacing imo. Mostly just complaining about how frail and weak humans are and flexing his power and upgrades He is not really that treathening. I have Literally never touched league ever in my life and this show is phenomenal. It’s utterly stunning and heart breaking and incredible. @@BossuJmek2k18 Chekov was a playwright who often wrote letters of advice to younger playwrights. Specifically the advice, "If you show a loaded rifle in the the first act, it should fire in the following act" was a common piece of advice he gave and is now well known as the idea of "Chekov's gun". Boils down to two points. 1) if you bother to show something that attracts all attention, it should come into the plot. If it doesn't, it is a distraction and should be cut from your story. 2) if something important or sudden resolves your stories conflict, it should have been set up earlier or the audience will find the solution unsatisfying.
The fact that nobody is talking about is that everybody whould live in a universe like that in the series. The steampunk style, the truth behind the stories. Everything is perfectly made. Well done riot
It's only steampunk style because the story revolves within Piltover and Zaun. Arcane have so much potential and I love it! Imagine if an arc revolves around Demacia or Freljord or Shadow Isles
My Father, who generally doesn't watch or generally like anime liked Arcane. It's a straight up great show, that I don't think could be achieved with live action.
Dude... if they ever can pull this off with live action, and they could... it'd be epic. But goddam they better not even attempt it until we have alien tech to make it look as amazing.
@Neo's danger Attack on titan, demon slayer and many other mainstream anime: ... I personally dont think its the shows themselves and think that it has more to do with the community, but even so lot of the general anime community are chill every fandom has quite the obnoxious side to it, its just that anime's is pretty loud compared to the others just my 2 cents though
Never played or cared about League, but Arcane blew me out of the water. The attention to detail, the artistry, the tight storytelling and most importantly SATISFYING character arcs. Also excellent pacing, where each scene flows into the next, keeping the tension and never feeling too slow or too fast. Didn't think it'd be an animated video game crossover series that would be my most cathartic viewing experience this year, but here we are... truly a special series, the kind you wait years for.
As I watched the show, I kept hoping that Powder would be redeemed and that the past could be changed but the show gave me a stern reminder that the past can't be changed and we must keep moving FOWARD!
And to be fair, Powder does things that would be considered redemptive (like killing Marcus and Silco). However, they serve to show how cruel those actions are in Arcane’s setting.
Powder/Jinx is my absolute favorite character in the show but seeing how it is by the end of season 1 she's most probably "Too Far Gone" like Caitlyn said. It's a sad thing but the way things are looking, putting an end to Jinx is the most likely solution to save whatever's left of the old Powder that she used to be.
I feel one of the best thing about the series was the fact that there was hardly any exposition. You learn about the world by literally immersing yourself in it. It's fucking fantastic. I've watched this series like 5 times now and everytime I watch it, I am continually impressed.
One thing I don't like too much is that Riot seems to be getting all of the credit, while Studio Fortiche is being the true MVP with their amazing animation. Yes Riot put the characters and story and all that in, but Studio Fortiche has been doing a lot of their animations in the past as well, and I kinda doubt that without this insane artistic craftsmanship this would have been that popular, after all, the story does have some very clichéd story lines, technically not too much about the main plot is really original. Still hella good show, credit where credit is due
Wow I saw Riot credited so much I thought they were the animation studio. Like the person said before this show follows some very cliche story beats, but I think it sticks out cause of the animation, art style, character design and use of sound and music
Fortiche and Riot have had a relationship for long time now and (even tho I actually know nothing about it) I can assure you they are being rewarded what the deserve.
I started Arcane and saw League of Legends bellow the title, and it took me a second... Until like episode 4 I was saying to myself "Wait, that League?" I have absolutely no knowledge of League, but this show slapped. Seeing Jinx actually made me say: "This is what Harley Quinn was supposed to be like". When characters are written with so much care they really feel more authentic than what they were modeled on. I have to add, this is one of the most diverse shows I've ever seen in every way, yet it felt so organic because the all the characters actually had personalities and were not there just to fill up the diversity quota.
The diversity aspect is so central that it just completely vanishes into the background, as it should. They clearly built a world where anyone could do anything, and be anything. And not just gender, or skin color. There's disability, there's age differences, there's mental health issues (so many mental health issues), and wealth disparity, and culture differences, and just so much vibrant contrast between every aspect that it starts to represent the real world better than any story working with an artificially limited palette of experiences can.
Jinx is more like the Joker than Harley. Harley is deeper than what the movies shows, but they went for a quick cash grab despite having enough material to build a good character; while Jinx was a wacky archetype and they F managed to make us care for her, or at least show empathy.
Prior to this show, I also knew NOTHING about League of Legends and was shocked at how amazing this series was with the godlike animation, immersive worldbuilding, and well-written characters. I was also shocked seeing promo material of Jinx years ago that’s entirely recontextualized now.
@@willho4202 Yea, you can see it in Legends of Runeterra, a lot of the piltover and zaun characters and locations were foreshadowed in the game(the enforcers, Shimmer, Medarda family, etc)

I remember seeing him at first and thinking, "Ah, we a have a villain who is going to use Jayce and send him down a dark path." But he turned out to be a lot more genuine than I first thought, and ended up being the opposite story-wise, actually being Jayce's moral center at times.
As somebody who had no interest in League, Arcane did an AMAZING job on making me genuinely curious about the world and lore! Absolutely, cannot wait for more!
As I've grown older, I no longer have the time to play LoL. However, they do have a very beautiful card game called LoR, amazing card art, and lore description for every card
As a dota lover and obligatory league hater, I watched arcane just to measure it up to the recent dota anime but holy crap, this is leagues beyond that stuff! Every single major and minor character is so interestingly presented
They way they implemented the 2D effects in a 3D animation is just absolutely gorgeous. They really took the best part of 3D and 2D animations, combined it into a masterpiece. People weren't lying when they said Arcane's every fucking frame feels like a painting.
Arcane reminds me of game concept art. The one they show very early in development when they dont have assets yet. Its like the show is one big show very every frame is one such high quality concept art.
Only thing bad about arcane is that as badly as I want to watch it again I can’t put myself through the heartbreak that was this masterpiece of a season.
Thier are moments in our lives that you have to stop and just appreciate being alive at this point in time to have witnessed something so incredible....Arcane was one of those moments for me!
its not re-watchable for me, barely watchable on first pass. Bad pacing, poor script writing, bad implementation of character emoting, lack of understanding of psychology and I could go on. This show was a generous maximum of 5-6 out of 10 for me
@@fettmaneiii4439 lmao I'd love to know what kind of media you think is GOOD because everything you said couldn't be further from the truth. I can't think of a single animated series within the past 10 years that is even close to this level of quality.
@@fettmaneiii4439 seriously, list off some names of things you like. Because if this is bad quality to you, what you enjoy must be phenomenal and I wanna see it.
I get what you mean when you say someone might like Arcane even more if they have no idea what LoL is, but as someone who has been a huge fan and a 10+ year reader of the lore, every single detail in the series got me over-hyped. I would spot some foreshadowing about future events I already knew about and I would see some things or get some references that my friends wouldn't and I'd get excited to tell them about it afterwards (trying not to spoil what might happen in the later episodes/seasons). And that's what makes Arcane so special : Riot succeeded in making a show that is as enjoyable for hardcore fans of the lore, for casual players of the game, or for someone who doesn't even know what League of Legends is.
Ikr? The ekko cinematic piece got me really hyped. It rewards you for following the game all these years as a casual fan. Like, small details, conspiracy theories all those years back comes into a compelling story, like, it was amazing
The first thing that blew me away was just how gorgeous the animation is in this series, and just how consistent it was from first to last episode. The next thing was the depth to the world and the characters. They've really set the bar high with this first season, and I really hope they can carry that through to the series end.
The best thing is how natural the conflict is. the one thing i loved the most is the sheer amount of human-esque character. I never ever saw one show where the characters felt human, and not just like a character in a show. The amount of empathy my brain produced each weekend was insane. I will rewatch it, maybe 4 times a year. My favourite show about my favourite game. I love it.
Ive felt that western animation has been more or less trying to play catch up to the greats in anime, but now and then there comes a masterpiece like Arcane that blows your mind, heart, eyes, ears, and balls so hard that you’re left with nothing but a desire for more.
They inspire each other and each are somewhat unique and it depends on the art style and how similar it is to anime. Anime has taken inspiration from Disney but then Disney took inspiration from anime with facial features and bigger eyes etc. Disney is obviously going to be more influenced since it has a closer art style to anime.
To be honest, I thought that Arcane would be below average because its a animated after a game, but when I watched it, I was actually loving it. If your going to watch it, at-least watch till the 3rd episode.
Thats the old school view. There was a “curse” (or more accurately a lack of care) between movies and video games a while back, but after people realized how big gaming was, they started to take the mediums of both seriously
Agree with the 3 episodes. Was about to drop it but then finished ep 3 and knew it was good. I still do think it is a bit overhyped but can’t deny that it is definitely good
Arcane was so refreshing to watch after watching so many anime with the same kind of characters and same kind of stories, girls with big boobs and the main character as this innocent guy who wants to protect all his friends. Arcane is just so unique and good, i love it
@@Not-Andy-Here That's what happens when you stagnate the industry with the same story everytime. How many isekais with the same narrative structure has been released within the past 6-7 years?

Come on Alex you're based on the NieR overload. I totally agree with you tho, have you noticed how the song Boy Savior has some nudges to the original Ekko theme, The boy who shattered time?
Even though all the characters in the series were really well written and developed the character which I most loved was definitely silco at first it felt like he was a generic coldhearted villain who will do anything to achieve his goal but as story progressed you can see his human sides especially his love and affection towards powder/jinx at first time I thought he was just acting to care about her so he can use her but you can see as the story went on,that he genuinely loves her to that extent that even he will rather sacrifice his dream than lose jinx it was genuinely heart-wrenching and beautiful, man I was genuinely crying at the end when he said he will never exchange her for anything
@@MYMOTHERISAFISH006 "Is there anything so undoing as a daughter?" That entire scene at Vander's statue made it hard for me to dislike Silco afterwards.
@@luizotavio44 I thought this was an absolutely genius way to resolve Silco's arc. He's so easy to sympathise with by the end. He was beaten by the same 'weakness' he fought against his whole life.
@@shirokku3279 Personally think is the best and most satisfying character moment in the show. So much emotion and buildup. Not to mention how much the scene sits with you. It's almost too good because your thoughts are lingering on it long after the scene ends. It's the moment that truely soldifys everything Silco has done and how he truely feels about Jinx and Vander. To the point you are even siding with him in the final scene
I know nothing ABOUT LOL, but someone recommended it to me and HOLY CRAP - one of the BEST things I've watched. Every scene - gorgeous. The animation and facial expressions - gorgeous. The story line - terrific. The soundtrack - epic. I WILL watch this several times - I can't get enough.

Silco was an absolute masterclass of a character that wasn'T even a champion in LoL. You know you made a compelling and layered character when even today people discuss them if they are good or bad.
Agree with everything but have to say that even before this series, League lore has always been phenomenal! Arcane just showcased that and the potential their world has.
I wouldn't say that the lore was always good. But after like 2014-2016, yeah definitely. And like that whole lore rework thing, for sure. But I don't think it was that great around 2011 and so.
I really don’t give animated shows that much of a opportunity. But I’m really glad that gave Arcane a shot because it was soo freakin good. The characters the music the action the animation. Like Gigguk said” literally everything would make me nut”.
It's honestly rare for me to have nothing negative to say about a show. Arcane blew me away on every level. It might be on its way to becoming one of my all-time favourite shows, and I've literally touched League maybe once in my life. Also, the use of Turbo Killer in this video was absolutely choice.
Worst thing is, it's Netflix, the show will be ruined in next season or two, as their every show that is good/watchable( I can literally count them on 1 hand).
@@icyman2 Netflix doesn't have anything to do with Arcane except just offering a platform for Riot to have it on. Riot completely own the rights to it, they are writing the show and work together with Fortiche for the animation. Why do you think Netflix hasn't done any marketing for Arcane like they do with a lot of other shows? Because they don't own it. Riot themselves has spend millions on the huge marketing that they had around the world.
Really? You have nothing to say on the rushed Vi-Caitlyn relationship? Nothing to say on Jinx's motivations of jealousy being stupid and unjustified? Nothing to say about the annoying cliffhanger? Come on now.
What Arcane showed everyone for Season 1 is nothing but a masterpiece. But it's quite scary since they put their debut show atop this sky-high pedestal because of how f**cking good it is. Still, it's also as exciting to see what they have in store for Season 2 and for the lore of other Runeterra regions as well.
@@5olveForX Unlike a certain studio, Riot DEFINITELY has the money to also perfect season 2. I just hope they actually put it to work and properly divide the workload, so it can be released while it's still hot, not when the hype for it has completely died down. Though considering how Good Arcane was, and how there is literally a game to remind everyone where Arcane came from, I think the hype won't die for a good 2-3 years at most. And that timeframe is more than enough for Riot to complete the roadmap they already setup for a Tv Series (And possibly a movie).
@@hmmm.324 Yes, but I hope Riot don't make "hype" the main determinant for Season 2's release. We'll more than appreciate a show that's worth the wait rather than a rushed, fast produced one with no soul nor value in its story.
Arcane was a beautiful love letter to League fans over the past 10+ years. It is an absolute masterpiece that will be mentioned among the greats in the decades to come, and I absolutely cannot wait to see what comes next. Thanks Garnt for covering this!
I love it, it's fucking gorgeous, and it's pretty good, better than the source material deserves, but a masterpiece? Nah. It's full of plot conveniences, which is a signature of poor writing. And since some fuckwit will try to ask for an example since they're too stupid to have seen it themselves, how about the fact that Vi's resilience comes and goes as the plot requires? Sometimes she can go through walls after getting punched by a super human with a mechanical arm, and others she goes unconscious for hours after a tap on the head or jaw. Vi, again, who is strong, proactive, a tad reckless, doesn't take shit lying down, you get the idea, just stays sitting at that table like a good, meek plot convenient device. Now, I get that Vander's words got to her and she's trying to rein the beast in, but come on. One, there's no way she changed this deeply so quickly, and two, this isn't a situation that merits such passiveness.
Ekko end the season as a neutral faction leader for the conflict coming. Of course he will have more screentime now he got Heimerdinger with him. Caitlyn was already center to the plot so i doubt they can increase it in any way, shape or form but it shouldn't get lower.
This happens when a fun job gets money and not when they force people to produce. If you don't know arcane started as a little side project like 7ish years ago and then became a real thing. There is so much love in this work and for the first time I'm going to non ironically type: thanks riot
Its also made in house, they didn't go to an outside studio to make it, yes fortiche is technically not riot, but they've been riots partners in cinematics for nearing a decade. (they made "get jinxed'') So instead of going to a big studio like WoW did for their movie, they let the people that know their game and know their jobs do what they do best and look at what we got.
can you imagine the whole comparing them to their kids selves was something the animation studio came up with, the writers didn't even have that in mind? also how dynasties and dystopia came to be bc the music producer couldn't decide between the three demos so he put all three of them into one song? it's crazy how this all came to be when i've watched that scene dozens of times at this point.

The real seller of the show is the facial animation. If it was live action, I'd call it 'well acted'. A lot of scenes they don't even use words, and rely solely on people's expression and reaction to convey info, and you just can't do that without top of the line animation. Look at 8:40 of this video for example and the range of emotion in just a few seconds on Jinx's face. It's mesmerizing.

Literally just finished binging arcane a few hours ago and I'm blown away. I don't know why I was so hesitant to watch it but I'm glad I did. I have zero prior knowledge of League so everything was fresh for me. The animation is absolutely amazing, the soundtrack, the characters, the plot pacing, I am so pleasantly surprised. Also, THIS IS HOW YOU WRITE STRONG WOMEN CHARACTERS, Vi, Caitlin, Jinx, Mel, amazingly written women characters who had real depth to them, it wasn't forced like in many recent marvel shows, these women had hardships, had to struggle, weren't just perfect and OP from the get-go, owned up to mistakes, and more. PEAK.
As someone who knows next to nothing about League, I can say that arcane is so good that it left me absolutely speechless at the end. It is gorgeous and i want more! (but i dont want to play league, since it seems to be more toxic than cyanide)
Silco was my favorite character, he's just so well done. Every single moment with him on screen is a masterclass in how a character can be written to life. When you first meet silco you think he's gonna be the generic bad guy, but there's just so much to him that makes all of his appearances in previous episodes that much better. This applies to almost every character in the show, it's almost like the entire team cared about what they were making
The ending to episode 7 made me f**king nut for sure. The standoff between Ecco and Jinx continuing as adults in a game of death with changed animation and banging music was amazing. I've rewatched it like 20 times.
I'm late, but I want to say thank you! All your talk about this series on trash taste convinced me to watch it and I could tell from episode one that it was going to be well done. I didn't expect it to be this good though. I've never played league before and I still have no interest, but it's rare for me to feel lost of unable to wrap my brain around what I've just watched. When I finished the show an hour ago, I could acknowledge that the series did many things in a fantastic way, I wouldn't really make my brain think about the story and the experience as a whole. This was one of the best things I've seen in a long time and I want to thank you again for being the reason that I watched the show!
Arcane portrayed so many spiraling characters, Jinx losing her mind, Jayce struggling in a position he never asked for, Victor playing with powers beyond his comprehension, Mel struggling with her militant upbringing, Silco struggles as a father and a leader, Vi just trying to get Powder back and Caitlyn just being way out of her depth. All these characters felt like they were in an car crash, like everything was out of their control and they were trying to make do with what they have. Until the finale, the Piltover gang return to their roots, they take control of their fear and their lives, the show gives the illusion that the car crash has stopped, that the characters are going to be fine. Then Jinx presses the gas pedal and they fly off the bridge. She Jinxed it, like she always does and it hurts. Because you know that the stability we just got a taste of will disappear, the characters will backslide and change, their control taken away from them once more. God Arcane is so good
This gives me so much hope for other character narratives, the zed shen narrative amidst the noxian invasion and jhins murder spree, bilgewaters pirate war and gangplanks revenge, the entirety of camavore and what viego brought to the shadow isle, and of course the garen katarina romance. League just has such a history it would be criminal not to explore these crazy stories with the same level of detail and respect they gave to arcane and piltover/zaun
Also if they made like a third part or something called expanded universe. Because by this time we have the trouble in Demacia with Sylas starting the mage revolution in Demancia since all of the demacians had become people racist to mages (bc of the rune wars) and still there hypocrites nobles that are mages. That’s a nice arc to be animated.
@@LordangeloxD just to add to this - Demacians were already weary about magic (because of the wars), but Sona's dad being killed by Noxians was what *really* pushed them into the ultra racist stuff we see in current day Demacia
As someone who is constantly on the lookout for incredible animation to be inspired by, this show blew me away. It gave me the same feeling I had while watching Into the Spiderverse for the first time. Like, it should _not_ be allowed to look this good.
Every time I watch the arcane video I get goosebumps at the part where the animation segment begins. The editing is simply breathtaking. And above all, this is not an isolated case for me with his videos, I so often have moments in which feelings are triggered in me. So I wanted to ask if I'm the only one who feels this way.
Realistic depiction of trauma, realistic facial expression. I felt every emotion and nuance shown by the characters, and sometimes it was painful to watch. AMAZING SHOW. I loved it :)
One thing I absolutely loved is, when characters cry, they ugly cry. It's not some hollywood crying where it's just beads of tears rolling down their cheeks with some sniffling, instead it's raw, snot and spit everywhere, eyes red with tears levels of crying and it adds to the overall immersion of the series as a whole, despite being such a small aspect overall.
The facial expressions were so incredible. I mean everything else animated was a genuine 10/10 but the expressions, especially the subtle little ones, were on a class of their own. This show just look impossibly good to me.
"realistic depiction of trauma" like a short timeskip later someone becomes a mass murdering Harley Quinn stereotype? That's the one part of the show that really feels forced.
@@Uhcip Not really. Jinx was pretty unhinged to begin with (she tried to "save" her friends by detonating a bomb right next to them? WTF?), and with zero people around to reinforce moral inhibitions on her + a criminal mastermind mentor/lover, without Vi, Jinx was obviously going to go even further off the deep end.
@Neo's danger But that point completely falls apart considering he mentioned ATLA and not GoT. Which by the way both attracted Anime and non-Anime fans so there you go. His statement is 100 percent accurate.
As someone who despises League of Legends, I enjoyed every second of the show. It is really a masterpiece in mixing visual, audio, and narrative into a really neat package. I’d recommend it to anyone. 10/10.

Never played League, never had any interest in it at all. Started watching Arcane without knowing it had anything to do with League. Was absolutely blown away. It is stunningly gorgeous, wonderfully acted, compellingly written, and has genuinely raised the bar for anime/game adaptations/animated drama etc. The best thing I've seen all year, and not just the best anime, better than any other show or movie.
As the "Are You GODDAMN FUCKIN KIDDING ME" person in the video, I approve the statements made. Arcane was and *fingers crossed* will continue to be a beautifully crafted story. It is GODDAMN FUCKIN GOOD!
I made my grandma watch this, with the agreement that I'll only make her watch through the end of episode 3 and then I'll stop bugging her. She _hates_ sci-fi, fantasy, and animation, so it took me a while to nag her into watching it. She has a tendency to talk through stuff she doesn't want to watch, and for the first two episodes she kept doing it, and I patiently kept pausong and rewinding so she could know what was going on. About 5 - 10 minutes into episode 3, she fell completely silent and then juet kind of sat there for a few minutes after the finale. She watched the rest of the season without any complaints and she keeps asking when the next season will start.
I'm actually glad I knew nothing about League when I watched this. Jinx's story hit way more hard because I really had no idea what was coming. Incredible stuff.
Same, especially after she became Jinx, because you were never sure on which side she is going to stand.
Well actually that's kinda the magic of Arcane even for people who are invested in the lore. We didn't know the details of Jinx's story to this extent. The most we got was that "one day she just snapped" and we never knew when, how, or why. Character interactions in the game dating back to 2017 actually hinted at some sort of secret in her past and it's incredible that this show finally revealed it.
not knowing Jinx and watching her story was like watching a trainrack in unfold in slowmotion from the first sit
it's a continuum series of disasters that could all been avoided, had any one of the elements involved change somehow
yet they didn't and now she's gone, her world is in shambles and all cry
it's a sort of dostoevskian tragedy, it's visceral, gut wrenching, and much like a trainrack you can avoid but stare at it
it's the hardest type of tragedy the write and it's even harder to write it right
but every time it's done it's nothing short of a masterpiece
Ditto. And I'm still not going to play the game because I don't want it to ruin future seasons of the show for me.
Like six years ago, one of the oldest characters got a rework.
Occasionally when this person interacts with Vi, they will ask her "who taught you to punch?" or something like that.
They been planning this for a damn long time it's incredible. Also, i'm being vague about who it is for spoilers sake.
The funny thing about Arcane is that it honestly feels like the _game_ is a spinoff based on it, not the other way around.

S2 might already be half finished for all we know.
they do indeed have much more resources! and the good news (?) is that it won’t come out this year, probably around 2023-2025
They also hired new employees! and their funds risen, they also immediately wrote the script and story of arcane season 2 just after finishing season 1

Just the fact that so much attention to detail went into an animated series makes me so happy as an artist and aspiring animator. Each episode is 40 MINUTES LONG and every second is amazing.

Dude same
Nah. I mean do as you like, but game got butchered over the years with bad balancing practices etc. Used to be pretty good in the earlier seasons, but now its kinda meh. If you are not going to play competitively might as well give it a shot though.

I VERY relate to saying "IT'S THE THING" when Jayce started shooting
ARCANE MASHUP REACTION!! 1x1 League Of Legends "Welcome To The Playground" ua-cam.com/video/UdaHFHXMo3c/v-deo.html
I fucking jumped when Singed as a character got revealed
I knew very little about leauge just whatever my friend would show me cause he played it and when i saw that scene with jace shooting I had that feeling that it was "the thing" even without knowing his moves at all. It was too epic to not have been the thing.
You wanna know something funny? I NEVER played League, never knew ANYTHING about League. Totally and completely ignorant about ANYTHING regarding League.
But at that scene, I was sufficiently hyped to the point that even I had the feeling that he was doing "a" thing. Didn't know what, didn't know why, all I knew instantly is that was "a" thing XD
I'm guessing it was because of the care in the animation.
Yep, arcane has astounding storytelling which keeps even the people that have not played league invested and that tells it is a great adaptation.
@@ugrena7419 yeah I used to hate league of legends. I now have wild rift on my phone lol
i can't really call Arcane an "animation" just because it looks like one. i see it more as a movie, in an animated skin. too much emotion and story in it to call it an "animation". but that's just me
@@ragael1024 it doesn't look like one. It is one. A good one.
If it doesn't get some kind of commendation/award I'm gonna be mega pissed
@@dwayneobamna8785 honestly at this point, _not_ getting an “official” award almost seems like a higher honor than actually getting one
It's made by fortiche studio.
And prior to this I'd say the bar was raised by the Castlevania series. Here's hoping that studio can get the rights to make a Metroid series like they want to.
What really stood out to me about Arcane is how expressive the facial animations were. It was stunning.
@@anarchyfork2676 god that sound psychopathic
For real, what got me was Powder's expressions at the end of act 1 when Vi abandons her. It's more than just "crying sad face". It's a combination of powerful and warped emotions of betrayal, guilt, anger, denial all within about a minute of animation and you can tell that this is something like Powder has never experienced. It's incredible
@@anarchyfork2676
Thats because it’s a stylised realism approach to animation, key frame animation instead of motion capture. (Which isn’t as good as keyframe because it’s more expensive and complicated.

Same. Beautiful show. Just finished watching it today. 💙
I'm also late to this party but holy fuck, Arcane lives up to the hype! I fell in love with Powder/Jinx's character so much. This show is like the Game of Thrones of the animation series in the modern time and that isn't even an exaggeration.

The animation looks horrible, nasty ass CGI
@@socriabbas454 Exactly! The city iteslf is two different characters that tell you what to expect from the people living in either half.
it's zaun not zuan lol
People misunderstood that? I thought that was pretty obvious?
Silco is probably my favourite character in the show
This is why you throw 18 year olds at wars and not 34 year olds. Well its one of a few reasons.
@@cptKamina genuinely curious what the misconception is? What other interpretation do people have of that scene?
After he gets shot and is dying. "You're perfect" ... that's some tough guy shiz right there.

Eventually we will be in this larger than life world with characters who at one point were human but now are legendary. hah see what i did there
Runeterra is bigger than MCU much bigger in lore , stories and world building .
@@hamza-trabelsi league has a huge lore but idk about that one, the MCU was based on the comics which had literally published thousands of stories for around 70 years......

2) if something important or sudden resolves your stories conflict, it should have been set up earlier or the audience will find the solution unsatisfying.

It is a win win for both.
Most of the ppl I watch acknowledge Fortiche.
Wow I saw Riot credited so much I thought they were the animation studio. Like the person said before this show follows some very cliche story beats, but I think it sticks out cause of the animation, art style, character design and use of sound and music
Yup, there isn't much original storytelling in this series. But it's such a polished product I can't really complain, like Demon Slayer.

No character is a caricature or just doing evil shit just because, they're all believable people with their own goals, flaws and virtues, and even when they're fighting to the death you can see where each of them is coming from. That's damn hard to pull off.

Ive felt that western animation has been more or less trying to play catch up to the greats in anime, but now and then there comes a masterpiece like Arcane that blows your mind, heart, eyes, ears, and balls so hard that you’re left with nothing but a desire for more.
😳
They inspire each other and each are somewhat unique and it depends on the art style and how similar it is to anime.
Anime has taken inspiration from Disney but then Disney took inspiration from anime with facial features and bigger eyes etc. Disney is obviously going to be more influenced since it has a closer art style to anime.
