I think a lot of indies like Another Crab's Treasure have understood the task. If you look at both trailers for that game it featuers a lot of gameplay. It's showing people what they can actually do in the game. It get's people thinking things like "what would happen if I do this instead" or "that looks challanging, but I think I could do it" so they want to play the game.

Invest in pc. I play 4k 60fps when comes to PS2. Don't even need to spend alot of money for emulation. Sony is messing around and not doing very good job with emulation.

@@statesminds they’ve simplified the game massively to give a more action based experience rather than the tactical one the series started with, and which BG3 has (in a different way). No tactical cam, no controlling companions directly, only 3 active ability slots per character. Those aren’t 100% confirmed but it would be madness to not show them in the gameplay trailer if they existed. But yeah, this game has been in development for a decade, I’m sure it was near its final form when BG3 came out so you can’t really compare them.

However, the success of Baldur's Gate 3 has shown that tactical combat in a triple A RPG can win critical acclaim and sell millions of full price copies.

Weird that Sony screwed up the recent PS2 classics considering they’ve been releasing other PS2 titles with upscaling since the PS4. I have Dark Cloud 1/2 and Rogue Galaxy on my PS5 just to name a few.
That old emulator can be hijacked to run almost all PS2 games. ( Assuming that you have a jailbroken PS4) And it upsacles them all... There's no excuse for this.
Dragon Age went from a dark fantasy to an Overwatch/Raid Shadow Legends clone. I get that The Veilgaurd was in development hell and had many iterations but this was the best Bioware could come up with? I really hate this trend. 😒

I'm sick and tired of walking sims. Hopefully the full game isn't like this. I’m not a dragon age fan, I’ve never tried one of the games. That being said, I think it’s refreshing to see a big game with an art style. Every AAA game seems to look the same these days. That combined with the mixed combat style and the fact that it isn’t open world, this game certainly has my attention. (Though I’ll wait for reviews/sales)

we need to get the PS2 Version of State of Emergency on there, i am 32 years old, haven't played it since i was 10 and i don't feel like buying a preowned PS2 off eBay, i prefer to only have the most modern systems hooked up to my TV, no messing around with ps1 ps2 Dreamcast etc etc etc
The worst thing with the Tomb Raider one is we have several versions to compare it to - one being on Sony's own hardware! It had another version on the PS3 that looked better than this and was part of a three pack of games (bundled in with Anniversary, which also had an upgrade, and Underworld, the only native PS3 game). It also gave the game trophy support.
PCSX2 has been doing a better job than Sony for almost two decades when it comes to the PS2. It's really confusing and infuriating why Sony hasn't figured out at least how to meet the same standards of a free emulator, much less improve them.
I have zero programming experience, so I apologize for my ignorance. But why is it that the Series S/X can play a ton of older games with better frame rates and higher resolutions, using just the brute force of the hardware. But the PS5 is struggling to emulate PS2 games? I honestly don’t get it.
It's not just brute force. Microsoft put a lot of work into optimizing their Xbox/Xbox 360 emulators for the games they run and "Series X Enhanced" games are specifically programmed to make better use of new hardware. Sony on the other hand seems to have very limited interest in actually letting people play old games.

I hated the DA Veilguard reveal trailer, but the gameplay showcase wasn't bad at all. It looked much better. The tone wasn't silly, the visuals were actually good, and the combat looked pretty fun. Still not excited for the game, but I can now say I'm at least willing to wait for critic & Steam reviews to see if it'll surprise me.
There was also a public graphics contribution event for BG&E2. The idea was to create art for buildings and such. Still expecting nothing, hoping for someday... :)
As a long time dragon age fan, i cant say im not excited by the gameplay trailer, not because the actual mechanics look improved at all unfortunately but because its the story progression of something ive committed hundreds of hours to over mutliple playthroughs of 3 previous games, novels etc. Visually it looks fine but mechanically it looks dumbed down to disbelief!
What annoys me with DA:V isn't so much that they've given it action RPG elements, it's that they seem to have removed the ability to play any other way. They could have had dodges and parries, and button mashing, and also let you control your companions directly, and have a tactical camera, and have more than 3 ability slots. A game CAN do both, you could play Inquisition both ways. The linear missions worry me less, as long as you can still choose on a world map which missions to do in which order, which has always been a key tenet of the DA games, as your choices in the side missions can have effects in the main missions. Only Inquisition was really open world like, and frankly closing rifts and building camps got old pretty quickly. But they completely shot themselves in the foot with the gameplay trailer, they could have shown a starter section, and as you said, a further on section with more abilities, they already skipped ahead so why not go further. If any of the features people are annoyed about not being there actually do exist, they could have shown them, so you have to assume they don't exist. But who knows, these are the same people that used a 5v5 team fighter trailer to advertise an RPG.
While it was not in development the whole time, Baldur's Gate 3 came out 23 years after Baldur's Gate 2. So it is possible Beyond Good &Evil 2 could live up to expectations, but it's Ubisoft so not very likely.
The Switch update just removed mention of X/Twitter in the profile menu so you can’t look up friends via X, but wasn’t needed to prevent posting to X.That was already done on the backend. I tried to post from the console yesterday before updating, and I couldn’t.
Tomb Raider Legend definitely does not look like 480p to me, at least when compared to the game running on a PS2 in its 480p mode. It looks like there is a resolution boost, but it's not huge. I think the issue mainly comes down to the post-processing on the original game adding a lot of blur/bloom effects. The opening plane cutscene looks completely fine and a lot closer to 1080p than 480p.

The new Dragon Age, stylistically i think falls into the trap of having way too much glowy magical looking stuff like a lot contemporaty media does. Looks like someone threw Jolly Ranchers all over the screen. I think people considered the series a bit more gritty, and it definitely looked like it used to have more blood and steel.

I really don't understand the hate for the veilguard. I love the art style. Its not 2007 anymore. We can have colors in video games. And as far as combat goes, dragon age has had a different combat system every single game. I would imagine that theres more depth to the combat than they showed us. Im very excited personally. The cast looks fun and everyone who has actually gotten time with the game is really positive on it.
2:30 Laughs with a Metroid Prime 4 pre-order from 7 years ago. To be fair the only reason I pre-ordered was because back then Best Buy Canada was offering 20% off any game pre-orders during E3, no down payments, you were only charged once the game was shipped to you and you could cancel at any time prior to that, so it really was a risk-free offer. I saved a lot of money that way on early Switch games.
Bioware fans still waiting for a proper sequel to Origins. Inquisition was a good game but I don't think anyone was asking for a spiritual successor to DA2.
I learned a long time ago to not expect anything when it comes to games. Too many disappointments, too many flops that’s dropped in price a week later (fallout 76). So I curb my expectations. I expect nothing and hope I’m pleasantly surprised.

I don’t understand what the point of hosting 6 cod games on one app is if NOT ALL MAPS ARE PLAYABLE. If you’re gonna have me download everything I would like all maps to be accessible or at least an option. Makes is dumb af if each of these games have their own mechanics, weapon systems, maps, etc. I’ve recently been playing COD mobile and it’s crazy that that’s the funnest cod I’ve played in YEARS. The best maps from the best cod games, BO and MW, an absolute ton of weapons from all the games, and cosmetic SKINS FOR OPERATORS THAT ARENT ASS BASIC MILSIM are UNLOCKABLE. A lot of fomo for skins and events but they’re SOOO common you’re bound to get a cool skin or blueprint within a week or two of playing. Map vote in ranked, people actually use mics. It’s crazy that’s the best cod experience you can get in 2024. And it’s COMPLETELY FREE, multiplayer, war zone, and a basic zombies mode.
Lots of great stuff shown off at the Xbox show, but I am firmly in the camp of ‘Avowed and Dragon Age look like garbage’. Clone Wars does seem to be a higher resolution. I want to say 1440p. The uprendering seems to be working for it. But the uprendering Tomb Raider Legends and Sly Racoon is supposed to have isn't working.

Coming off of Baldurs Gate 3, I was hoping Dragon Age was going to be more strategy than it looks like there is. Bummer.
Yeah. I loved DA 1 and 2 both, 3 was OK, but I really miss the strategy from 1. It got too action focused after that.

Veilguard's gameplay trailer made it look even worse imo. They really need to stop with these interactive walking sims with basic action combat tossed in here and there. God of Bore 2018 was the worst offender, and games only became worse after that walking sim somehow went mainstream. If they want to make a movie, just make a movie. I'm sick and tired of walking sims. Hopefully the full game isn't like this. But, at this point, the cringe fortnitewatch characters with Marvel dialogue already have my interest down the trash compactor.
I’m not a dragon age fan, I’ve never tried one of the games. That being said, I think it’s refreshing to see a big game with an art style. Every AAA game seems to look the same these days. That combined with the mixed combat style and the fact that it isn’t open world, this game certainly has my attention. (Though I’ll wait for reviews/sales)

I definitely agree that the art style isn’t exactly unique, but it’s better than the attempts at realism that take the production team years to achieve and leave them with no time to build a fun game, and a color palette that is mostly dull, gray, and brown.

Agree that Nintendo should’ve done LM1 and LM2 as a double pack. They could’ve even used that $70 price tag on it since it’d be 2 game bundle.

Dragon Age has been dead for years now. The company gives no shits to what made it famous in the first place.
The worst thing with the Tomb Raider one is we have several versions to compare it to - one being on Sony's own hardware! It had another version on the PS3 that looked better than this and was part of a three pack of games (bundled in with Anniversary, which also had an upgrade, and Underworld, the only native PS3 game). It also gave the game trophy support.
Beyond Good & Evil was such a good fucking game on PS2/GC. That kind of game could never be released today from a AAA studio. Maybe an indie studio.
Bioware is gone. The old Bioware is no more. I moved on from their slop years ago.
PCSX2 has been doing a better job than Sony for almost two decades when it comes to the PS2. It's really confusing and infuriating why Sony hasn't figured out at least how to meet the same standards of a free emulator, much less improve them.
I have zero programming experience, so I apologize for my ignorance. But why is it that the Series S/X can play a ton of older games with better frame rates and higher resolutions, using just the brute force of the hardware. But the PS5 is struggling to emulate PS2 games? I honestly don’t get it.
It's not just brute force. Microsoft put a lot of work into optimizing their Xbox/Xbox 360 emulators for the games they run and "Series X Enhanced" games are specifically programmed to make better use of new hardware.
Sony on the other hand seems to have very limited interest in actually letting people play old games.

I hated the DA Veilguard reveal trailer, but the gameplay showcase wasn't bad at all.
It looked much better. The tone wasn't silly, the visuals were actually good, and the combat looked pretty fun.
Still not excited for the game, but I can now say I'm at least willing to wait for critic & Steam reviews to see if it'll surprise me.

Luigi’s mansion 2 not being couch co-op is an absolute dealbreaker. I enjoyed 3, but only because I could play with my son.

As a long time dragon age fan, i cant say im not excited by the gameplay trailer, not because the actual mechanics look improved at all unfortunately but because its the story progression of something ive committed hundreds of hours to over mutliple playthroughs of 3 previous games, novels etc.
Visually it looks fine but mechanically it looks dumbed down to disbelief!
What annoys me with DA:V isn't so much that they've given it action RPG elements, it's that they seem to have removed the ability to play any other way. They could have had dodges and parries, and button mashing, and also let you control your companions directly, and have a tactical camera, and have more than 3 ability slots. A game CAN do both, you could play Inquisition both ways. The linear missions worry me less, as long as you can still choose on a world map which missions to do in which order, which has always been a key tenet of the DA games, as your choices in the side missions can have effects in the main missions. Only Inquisition was really open world like, and frankly closing rifts and building camps got old pretty quickly.
But they completely shot themselves in the foot with the gameplay trailer, they could have shown a starter section, and as you said, a further on section with more abilities, they already skipped ahead so why not go further. If any of the features people are annoyed about not being there actually do exist, they could have shown them, so you have to assume they don't exist. But who knows, these are the same people that used a 5v5 team fighter trailer to advertise an RPG.
No matter how much I'm hyped for a game, I will never preorder it without knowing its release date.
While it was not in development the whole time, Baldur's Gate 3 came out 23 years after Baldur's Gate 2. So it is possible Beyond Good &Evil 2 could live up to expectations, but it's Ubisoft so not very likely.

The Switch update just removed mention of X/Twitter in the profile menu so you can’t look up friends via X, but wasn’t needed to prevent posting to X.That was already done on the backend. I tried to post from the console yesterday before updating, and I couldn’t.
Tomb Raider Legend definitely does not look like 480p to me, at least when compared to the game running on a PS2 in its 480p mode. It looks like there is a resolution boost, but it's not huge.
I think the issue mainly comes down to the post-processing on the original game adding a lot of blur/bloom effects.
The opening plane cutscene looks completely fine and a lot closer to 1080p than 480p.
With Twitter integration removed, all these share buttons on controllers became just screenshot shortcuts.
PS app on Android is horrible too.

The new Dragon Age, stylistically i think falls into the trap of having way too much glowy magical looking stuff like a lot contemporaty media does. Looks like someone threw Jolly Ranchers all over the screen. I think people considered the series a bit more gritty, and it definitely looked like it used to have more blood and steel.

I really don't understand the hate for the veilguard. I love the art style. Its not 2007 anymore. We can have colors in video games. And as far as combat goes, dragon age has had a different combat system every single game. I would imagine that theres more depth to the combat than they showed us. Im very excited personally. The cast looks fun and everyone who has actually gotten time with the game is really positive on it.
2:30 Laughs with a Metroid Prime 4 pre-order from 7 years ago. To be fair the only reason I pre-ordered was because back then Best Buy Canada was offering 20% off any game pre-orders during E3, no down payments, you were only charged once the game was shipped to you and you could cancel at any time prior to that, so it really was a risk-free offer. I saved a lot of money that way on early Switch games.
Bioware fans still waiting for a proper sequel to Origins. Inquisition was a good game but I don't think anyone was asking for a spiritual successor to DA2.
You can use a game voucher on Luigi’s Mansion 2 if you have online and plan on buying a second game to save a bit on the game.

I learned a long time ago to not expect anything when it comes to games. Too many disappointments, too many flops that’s dropped in price a week later (fallout 76).
So I curb my expectations. I expect nothing and hope I’m pleasantly surprised.

I don’t think people realize that Tomb Raider Legend is the worse version of the game since it was mainly on the X360 then ported to PS3. PS2 was the throwaway last gen version.
The Pricing with Luigi's Mansion 2 HD has the exact same problem as DKCTF faced a few years ago. That the original was sold for less brandnew as this rework comes across as poor taste.
I don’t understand what the point of hosting 6 cod games on one app is if NOT ALL MAPS ARE PLAYABLE. If you’re gonna have me download everything I would like all maps to be accessible or at least an option. Makes is dumb af if each of these games have their own mechanics, weapon systems, maps, etc.
I’ve recently been playing COD mobile and it’s crazy that that’s the funnest cod I’ve played in YEARS. The best maps from the best cod games, BO and MW, an absolute ton of weapons from all the games, and cosmetic SKINS FOR OPERATORS THAT ARENT ASS BASIC MILSIM are UNLOCKABLE. A lot of fomo for skins and events but they’re SOOO common you’re bound to get a cool skin or blueprint within a week or two of playing. Map vote in ranked, people actually use mics. It’s crazy that’s the best cod experience you can get in 2024. And it’s COMPLETELY FREE, multiplayer, war zone, and a basic zombies mode.
Not a big fan of the fact that the Alan Wake II physical edition releasing this fall is $20 more expensive than the initial release. 😕

The Beyond Good and Evil 2 story is kinda sad. The first director basically quit video games to avoid being cancelled for mistreating his team, then his replacement suddenly died at a relatively young age. So sad.
