- Hawthorne police and LA County Fire responded to what was initially reported as an assault that got upgraded to a gun shot wound per LACoFD radio traffic, arriving law enforcement were met with gunfire from the suspect. the suspect shot two people including a Hawthorne police officer. the officer was quickly transported and the second victim was later transported to area hospital. SWAT teams and K9 units were called to the scene for suspect search and for clearing of locations in the perimeter set up by patrol units.

Was probably at home when call came in. Putting cool pants on and boots/other gear takes too long when seconds count. Always keep a ready to go tac vest with armor plates and essential gear/weapons ready to go(civilians especially). Ballistic helmet too, but most for civilians they are cost prohibitive and take too many seconds to deploy properly during an emergency.
Bad guys don't call ahead so you can get ready at your leisure, unfortunately.

@carloss Loss I have no idea what idiot would question why police need those. They don't just mess with random bumpkins that wave around an ak. They deal with riots, looters, gangs, All kinds of things. That's a lot of guns to deal with. And if it's an organized group or somewhat organized. It becomes a lot more difficult and the gun calibers are a lot higher then handguns now. Possible military grade weapons. Especially if the killer in question could be ex military.

when always happen in the south bay area, when something big happens between Inglewood and Palos Verdes everyone comes Hawthorne PD, Inglewood PD, LA Sheriff, Torrance PD, El Segundo PD, Manhattan Beach PD, Redondo Beach PD, Hermosa Beach PD, Gardena PD, Palos Verdes PD, and sometimes LAX PD, Homeland Security and CHP.
I know like on June 6th or June 5th I randomly heard a gun shot and then all I heard after was cops going up and down the streets. I even saw 5 helicopters. The incident was on Imperial Highway

Sad thing is in the 80s something like this happened and most of the cops only got pistols at the time of a bank robbery and 1 had a shot gun couple police died on that day cuz the badys had bullet proof armor from head to leg but not the feet. When swat arrived they rolled up to the bad dude in a crown vick and 4 swat officers engaged they exchange fire for quite sometime and one of the swat members saw that the suspect dint have boots that are armored and blasted his feet

There is a big collaboration between this cities and police agencies, when something big happens in this area always Hawthorne PD, Inglewood PD, LA Sheriff, Torrance PD, El Segundo PD, Manhattan PD, Redondo PD, Gardena PD they got together and sometimes LAX PD and CHP.
