Fun Fact: Just two* years* prior to the North Hollywood shootout, the movie _Heat_ released. A common criticism of _Heat_ among law enforcement had been that the shootout scene with the armed suspects was "unrealistic" because it was believed that robbers would not be that heavily armed nor willing to fight police head on. The North Holly shootout would prove all that wrong.
@thebig0opsyshow505 Don't quote me on this, but I vaguely remember that the police report after investigating the guys house, they did find a copy of Heat in the living room I believe. Again, I could be wrong, but it does sound familiar.
If it's news station footage that's essentially the same as Disney or Universal. That's why many informative vids on UA-cam, that are on specific events, don't use famous or well-known footage that is owned by companies. Example: the Zapruder film with the JFK assassination, the "UFO" mass sighting footage of lights over a mountain range in Arizona or New Mexico (I forget which), etc. You'll see the footage on the History Channel or Discovery because they pay the rights to use that footage. Typically, yt channels don't because it's expensive so they'll only use stills or different footage that is close enough. Typically the companies that own the footage are very aggressive at citing videos that use their footage.
The craziest thing about this shootout was the news reporter who was casually reporting from behind a car while the shooters were actually shooting at him. Note, a 7.62x39mm will punch through and out the other side of a car. The only thing that will sufficiently stop the bullet is the engine block. Mans strait up was in the line of fire and didn’t care.
@@herrschmidt5477 at 300 yards a 7.62x39 has the same foot/pounds of energy as a .44 Magnum. Even a "lowly" 9mm Luger can punch through both windshields of a car. Cars are not safe from gunfire in any way shape or form. Even hiding behind the engine block can cause you to take shrapnel or richochets from the bullet tearing through the body of the vehicle. If you take cover behind a vehicle, it's better to be about a body's length away. "Stay off the walls"
Jorge Viera initially didnt understand that the person he was filming was one of the robbers, he thought it was a SWAT officer. So it wasnt so much he didnt care, it was that he didnt know, and by the time he knew he was in the line of fire with no way to retreat (plus it made for some exceptional footage).
My mom worked as a bank teller in the early 80s in a city just outside of LA. They had a regular that would pull up in a red mustang and rob the place every once in a while.
Oh that is too funny... It was Anthony or Flea from the Peppers in the day, they would take turns! I was a few miles away on my 40th birthday at work the day of this!
Small banks and credit unions used to be insanely easy to rob. Honestly, a ton of them still are. There are career bank robbers who’ve been doing it for decades
As someone who knows absolutely nothing about firearms, having the UA-cam appropriate “prop guns” on screen is really interesting and helpful. Wedigoon explains and showcases how firearms work in a way that’s really accessible and interesting, and I honestly really appreciate the in-depth explanations 30:25

I believe the Metro officers were having a training day when they were notified to respond to the scene which was miles away. Also, I heard that Van Nuys Sgt. Papworth made the decision to obtain AR's from B&B Gun Store.
When that alert goes out, it doesnt matter how many are needed, but i know how many theywill use..(all). Guys will show up in party hats, swimsuits and bbq aprons to assist.
Your grandma must've had ovaries of steel, because I would have been held up once, had a panic attack, and quit right on the spot. I would not go back thank you lol
I came back from Iraq and went to work security at a bank that had gotten robbed three times in six months. You're so cocky for a while after you've been in battle that you go toe-to-toe with big huge guys and it's a pleasure because they're not suicide bombers. The bank was in a grocery store and it was boring, so you got to be genuinely useful to all the customers, if you bothered to learn all about the store. It was a great feeling having the necessary information to answer all sorts of questions.
This is legitimately the best break down of the shootout I've ever seen. Your a gun guy and know basic tatics and movements which shows. The common sense approach to why they did certain things and issues with their weapons has always been glossed over besides they were illegally converted. Please do a video on Waco, ruby ridge too but the algorithm might be an issue with it.
imagine being one of the people that were working in a bank and have to explain to 24 different robbers that, "im sorry sir but the first guy got to it all at 7 am you probably should of gotten here at 6:30 or 5 to actually get something out of your trip, the exit is that way sorry for the inconvenience"
This reminds me of the guy who snapped and turned his bulldozer into a tank and had a war with the cops in his city. Wendigoon I’d love to see you do a video on this. The story itself is pretty crazy and kinda sad.
Fun fact about that, he didn't intend to hurt anyone, and he didn't. He only damaged property, in retaliation for the fact that the city fucked him over hard.
My grandma worked at a train station in Chicago in the 40s and 50s and she was robbed 7 times at gun point. She said they were always nice about it and they were almost like special order customers. They were often dressed well but not mob related.
I hope it's not rude to have laughed at that... But I did. She had to be hard as fuck to keep working there. Realistically though, that's the best way to rob someone and things would be much better if we just had more polite armed robbers. Jokes aside, it's a very effective strategy, hell it's humane in a way. Killing someone that you're robbing makes no sense; you're just adding a murder charge. D.B. Cooper was described as extremely kind. When asked by his hostage "why?" he told her "It's not that I have a grudge against you or your airline. I just have a grudge." According to her, he kept reassuring her that everything was going to be okay, despite the *bomb* on him. I think that's a large contribution as to why he was the only successful hijacker. He even told the crew (who he had lock themselves in the cockpit) "Have a good day" before he jumped out. He was so polite that he *got the plane grounded and evacuated without them knowing about the hijack. (Edit: While you might assume Stockholm Syndrome, there wasn't enough time, she didn't help him, she was still a *hostage*.) It's fascinating when you think about it, someone can be doing an awful crime while still acting like good people. Maybe being a good person and committing awful crimes aren't mutually exclusive...
@@XXMatt0040XXwell, there’s quite a few stories out there of so-called “good” people who do bad things. The thieves with hearts of gold. Of course, stories are just that. Stories. So perhaps tellings of them should be taken with a grain of salt.
@@pewpewplasma3793 They should always be taken with a grain of salt. But criminals aren't necessarily bad people, some are just people who haven't figured out how to live law-abiding lives.
For those who don't know, Emil and Larry's strategy of covering each other to move forward to the parking lot is a tactic taught in the US Army. It's called bounding and it's used to either force the enemy to retreat, or to allow riflemen to get close enough to engage and kill the enemy. So, they were using real life Military infantry tactics against the police.
So sick of reading comments about how bad their aim was. They were't trying to kill anyone, this was suppressive fire. Army's teach that yes, also Militias... This guy gets it
@@doopdu1237 They even told the hostages to get inside the vault knowing that the entire lobby of the bank was more than likely going to be lit up when half of the LAPD's gunfire.
I'm impressed Wend. This was more detailed and better explained than anything else I've seen on North Hollywood. You should look at the 1986 Miami shootout. You could make as good an explanation as Paul Harrell
This really is like an action movie. It’s thrilling, all filmed, and no one died except for the villains. And the people breaking rank also reminds me of it

The thing is with the robberies with the notes, my mom used to work at a bank, and she did get robbed like this. She told me that she gave the guy the money because she didnt know if he was armed or not. The dude eventually got caught, but my mom got FIRED for literally DOING HER JOB the way she was trained to. A couple years later the FBI gave her a 'im sorry' letter from that guy while he was in prison. Turns out he was a drug addict, and he got help.
I’ve gotta say. I’m not particularly interested in guns, but I thought you tying your knowledge into this case was super interesting and I feel like I genuinely learned a lot from your perspective! I’d be totally down to hear you cover more cases like this!
It's important you learn about them, especially if you're from the US. Many countries don't have anything like the Second Amendment. It'll keep you from sounding like you're not informed on this issue when you are demanding gun control to stop people from getting an "Assault Rifle 15" and "Assault Weapons".
It’s the most surreal feeling when I’m watching a video and then I hear “Raycon” because I use them as headphones for everything I own that has a bluetooth connection.
It's crazy to me that multiple documentaries got so many facts wrong, considering that, as you mentioned, it's one of the few bank robberies almost entirely caught on camera.
It's not crazy at all, its called poor journalism. People arent interested in getting the facts correct, they just want to shit out content as quickly as possible to profit off it. Yeah this shootout was caught mostly on camera, but then someone making the documentaries would need to *watch it* and that takes time, time these people dont want to waste in getting correct information, they just wanna vomit their content into the world and let the money roll in. "Good" journalism doesnt exist when those journalists stand to make good money off something.
UA-cam and actual filmmakers are really not that different. Then you have the media just making stuff up. Read the blog he mentioned at the start Bears in the Beehive. Now they did their homework.
I think the fact that wendigoon is a gun guy really makes these videos even more enjoyable, because many channels or media outlets that don't understand firearms or tactics tend to have a hard time explaining certain aspects of situations, or they flat out make shit up when they have no idea what they're talking about. Wendigoon adds a lot to these videos with his knowledge of both tactics and firearms as a whole.
I never knew this tragedy is my childhood memory.., at my childhood I'm keen on watching documentary , in which a couple got shot in leg and they described it like someone hitting on a baseball bat and a cop shot the guy with shotgun but due to armour it didn't worked.., this video came in feed and I googled with my vague childhood memory and turns out I watched a documentary based on this shootout while I was kid.., thanks for this narration wendigoon, you really made me refresh my childhood phase..,
I remember watching this live on TV in '97. I'm still amazed that the only fatalities were the robbers. I remember watching one of the robbers shooting himself. That was insane.
My fellow old head! I was looking for anyone that experienced that as well in the comments. It was nuts and the next week drove it home as the news talked about it so much.
I’ve seen videos covering this shoot-out in the past, but never have I personally seen anyone talk about all of the strange events after the gun fight. Thank you for all of your effort. Super interesting and entertaining, as always.
Clicked so fast, I'm so ready. Just got done binging your 3 part series on The Divine Comedy and your analysis of it has kind of changed me in a way. I don't know how to explain it but the way you convey the message really resonated with me and helped me improve. Thank you.
I've always wondered why bank robbery has such a high sentencing no matter how little violence there is, but now I know it's because if you were a bank teller in LA in 1992 alone you were held at gun point at least 5 times
nah it's all over the world like that: You don't steal from the rich and powerful. Even in Germany we got a quite high death toll on bank robberies compared to other crimes even if it's just about silly money and no one really got hurt.
The thing about phenobarbital is that you're not going to feel "intoxicated" in the way that a lot of the other sources might have imagined. You're just going to feel exceedingly calm (bordering on lethargic if you don't have enough stimuli to occupy your senses), and you're also not going to exhibit what you might call reasonable risk-aversion. Basically even with their plan falling apart and finding themselves surrounded, they probably met their end with something akin to indifference. Like a lot of anti-seizure meds, phenobarbital was also widely used to treat people with panic attacks and PTSD.
I've taken phenobarbital before, in the form of a migraine medication, and it really does just feel like it calms your nerves in a mild way, similar to a weak anxiety medication.
Great video commentary was hilarious. As someone who watched this whole thing go on live with my mom and her boyfriend back then at the age of 15 i remember it like yesterday and think you did a great job covering it especially correcting the documentaries. When I watch those and say that didn't happen people think I'm crazy and how would I know better than the people who made the documentary. So a big thank you for that
As someone who’s been robbed at gunpoint at my bank job back in 2019, I found this both extremely interesting and oddly comforting. I’ve always felt weird mentioning or even reminding people I was robbed at my job, so it’s nice to remember I’m not alone - unfortunately the bank robbery I was caught in was a takeover style and honestly was just…quite an experience.
My mom had some interesting stories from her time as a banker. She got the classic "guy in a baseball cap calmly pushing a note over the counter" experience. Can't imagine a movie-style takeover. Sounds like a wild ride.
This makes me want this to be a series chronicling some the most bizarre, funny or plain stupid crimes even done just to break up the creepy and unsettling shit on the channel
My dad was one of the cameramen in the helicopters, the police gave them bullet proof vests but they sat on them instead of actually wearing them because of where the bullets would be coming up from
The quality and depth you explore all the sources in this video is amazing. My favourite video you have made. I love this topic and you do a really great job narrating the events. :)
37:15 the police weren’t being respectful of the shooter, they were trying to hide the body so any civilians wouldn’t see him. I had a friend die in a car accident and the person who’s house was next to the crash site was asked by police for a blanket to cover the body so the other people in the car who survived and anyone else wouldn’t have to see the body.
My neighbor across the street (94) was killed when hit by a car crossing the street to the mailbox! After running out and finding out what happened?!?! I ran back to the house and grabbed a sheet and placed it Over him. It was out of Respect! He was 94 and Volunteered at the Elderly Home Center! His initials are DG!
You've probably heard that in stressful situations your training takes over? I'm sure this is what happened here. The cops would have been utterly overwhelmed by the events and in order to avoid paralysis, their psyches reached for a to-do list to follow. The first steps would be to secure any weapons and to secure any bodies for all the reasons the other commenters mentioned above. Can you imagine a young patrol officer walking through his front door at the end of that shift??? What would have gone through his head? At least not a .308 round, I suppose...
It is usually a mix of both. In germany for example they cover accident sites so people don't stop to watch and hinder things going on around them but also especially in accidents or for victims it is disrespectful to watch for enterprise (There's also fines these days for people that do that which i fully agree with)
Please do more content like this, I've never been one for "True Crime" genre stuff but your covering of shootouts is so engaging and straight to the point, that I too think this is absolutely my favourite niche as well. As someone who's also a nerd about guns, I'd love to see more content about guns too from you. I don't know what type of content you could do, but I'm absolutely here for it!!!
I saw the movie Heat with a friend and he thought the shoot-out scene was too unrealistic. I was like what is so unrealistic about heavily armed robbers robbing a bank! He responded that that could never happen in real life! Anyway, about 1 year later this shoot-out occurred, and yes I rubbed it in his face all day and told everyone what he had said too.
>Heavily armed robbers robbing a bank >What is so unrealistic How is it unrealistic in the first place? They would shoot up everyone at that location with that firepower and ammo.
I see a lot of people in these comments backing up these cops who let Emil bleed to death. A few things to make note of- - These two are pretty noble gunmen all things considered- in several reports it's noted they moved civilians into the bank vault when they began preparing for a gunfight because they didn't want anyone uninvolved and innocent needlessly in the middle of what was about to turn into a "bulletstorm". - The two were also practicing suppressive fire. To an untrained eye it would seem like they were just "spraying and praying", but they are other instances of them using actual small unit tactics which makes it far more likely they were attempting to "suppress" the increasingly insurmountable numbers they knew they would be facing the longer they were stuck "on the X". With suppressive fire, you're deliberately trying to keep the enemies in cover so that you reduce their windows of opportunity to return fire to a minimum. This, in tandem with retreating ground as you cover one another's withdrawal, is SOP for the Army with "breaking contact", and it's emphasized heavily in the unit I belong to, the Scout platoon, and all of our contemporaries- because of the idea that if we are discovered and engaged, we aren't moving with nearly the same numbers and firepower as the enemy is probably bringing. All in all, they weren't shooting to kill, they were shooting to escape. - During the escape, Emil opted to instead spend invaluable extra moments to intimidate a driver instead of outright blowing their head off in haste and disregard, so that he could hijack a getaway vehicle. This enabled the driver to disable the vehicle before running, leaving Emil stranded and out of time. An act of mercy, got him killed. These are obviously not fantastic dudes, but when people nowadays call for the humiliation and suffering of guys like these, while simultaneously not whispering a word, or even protesting in favor of the types of criminals we now have in 2024 who brazenly flaunt their crimes and are unnaturally sadistic towards both Law Enforcement and Civilians... You get what you pay for I guess. You should keep this in mind the next time any of you are on the opposite end of the Law, especially with how unpredictable that seems to be becoming nowadays.
This happened down the street from us and was the bank my grandma used. Bank robberies really were so common that even after this, she was annoyed at not being able to go that day. I remember being too young to understand why the bank suddenly had tons of bulletproof glass installed inside, and still to this day is decked out more than a lot of other banks in the area.
"And the housekeeper, who was from South America, said he was being a wuss because this happened all the time where she's from." As a Brazilian, I felt that.

I was a resident, living in the city of North Hollywood in 1997 when this major event took place and watching it unfold on tv. I will never forget it. Living in the 90’s was a whole different world as we are living now in 2020’s.
39:38 you were technically correct when referring to the yellow truck as a “Jeep”. It was a 1963 Jeep Gladiator, or J-Series Pickup which were made by Jeep until the 80’s.
First, appreciate the “air soft” examples that made it very easy to understand what had happened, and second you were correct, that is in fact a Jeep pickup
This video reminded me of a robbery attempt where I used to live. I was in a 7/11 in Texas and a guy pulled a pistol on the clerk and in the most Texan thing ever, 5, if I am remembering correctly, separate bystanders pulled their own pistols on him and held him there until the cops arrived. I love Texas, the people may suck sometimes, but we always help our fellow Texans.
The should have just driven in to a garage and swapped their paint color to drop their wanted level. On a more serious note, I worked with a guy on a construction crew who had just gotten out of jail for serial bank robbery so I can shed a bit of light on why he'd walk out the front door randomly. The guy I worked with usually did unarmed solo hits where he'd just walk up to the teller and demand $2k but, when he did go for the vault, he'd work in a team of three. One guy was in charge of getting the cash, one guy was in charge of crowd control and one guy waited outside to make sure that the planned escape route was still clear and came up with an alternate if it wasn't
I know it's a GTA joke but they actually did that back in '95 or thereabouts. Their Chevrolet Celebrity was originally blue, and they resprayed it white after the Herman Cook murder.

Dude, _please_ do more coverage of historical events. You're great at it. Edit: 47:00 Speaking as a Californian? That's the LAPD at their finest, no surprise here.
He should do a video on the 1986 Miami-dade shootout, it was another important shootout in the history of law enforcement as it led to the phasing out of revolvers in favor of semi-auto handguns
i think the risk is adding to the glamorisation of it, and it going the way of mass shootings, where it increases due to desire for infamy and notoriety. so, one has to be very careful with how they go about it. this one works because no one died, the shooters are dead, no money got stolen, and it is now virtually impossible to do what they did due to introduced methods of policing and robbery prevention (as well as identification methods).
I agree, but at the same time it is still educational for a full breakdown of how these tragic events played out since a sanitized shortened version of events can lead to misunderstandings
@@shadycatz85 I think it's the way one can tell the story that makes a difference. Like, let's not say they were "mad evil geniuses" and I think we're good.
The reason he walked out is because it had become unusually quiet outside especially that a major road was next to the bank and the time of day would mean a lot of traffic. The lack of traffic was as a result of the cops blocking off the road
The bank robber was lucky in the sense that: he’s drum mag even fed, back then they were notoriously horribly at jamming, and that his dissipator AR-15 was able to shoot properly. The dissipator is the most unreliable version of a 16” barrel because the gas port can’t get enough gas down it to function 99% of the time. Bro literally picked the WORST rifle with the WORST possible mag choice and lucked the hell out with almost zero malfunctions. His luck was so good he should’ve just gone and played the lottery, won, and avoid the shootout.
I did like your comment because in general I agree but I would like to point out that his was built by Bushmaster. In the 90's they were the gold standard.
@@austinknowlton1783 yeah but then he cut the barrel from 20” to 16” which is what causes the issue. As straight forward as this story seems, the mysterious fabrication of reports and other shady cover ups, makes it really seem like this was much bigger and/or worse than just 2 guys getting killed in their own gun fight
People who’s instinctive reaction after you’ve done something wrong is to cover it up probably are not the best people to be cops. And yet, so many of them are.
Honestly I don't think there's much more mystery to it than "these two shot a bunch of our guys, so fuck em we're just gonna let them bleed out" and everything else was just an on-the-fly cover up not thinking anyone would really care that much to look into it. Jeep, over the years, has actually made a couple different models of pickup. It looked like a Comanche to me, so I looked it up. Wikipedia states it was a 1963 Jeep gladiator, so you were actually right about it being a jeep.
It’s a Jeep for sure. In the 60s those were Gladiator trucks. They were sold as J series trucks in the 70s and 80s. I had a 78 J10 at the time this happened and I remember my dad pointing out that the Jeep at the end of this shootout.
I appreciate you having (at least a basic, and say I that with respect) an understanding of firearms and ballistics to not further conflate the understanding of viewers. Thank you for that. This was very well done.
The vehicle you called a "Jeep" was actually a Jeep Truck model that was produced for a time. So don't beat yourself up you were right. You can tell by the distinctive grill in one picture and the tailgate has side latches instead of a center handle.

Robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, and attempted murder are all illegal yet criminals ignore those. The only people that obey laws are the law abiding. Making laws against the best tools for self defense does not stop criminality, it just creates more victims for criminals. Hey Isaiah, you should do a doc on the Norco Bank Robbery. It happened a few years before this (1980) and was also a case where the police were massively outgunned by bank robbers, including shooting down a helicopter (not a joke), improvised grenade launchers (that worked), and a crazy manhunt. No one talks about it. There's an old doc on youtube if you search for Norco Shootout and The Dollop podcast also has an episode on it. It's super interesting, maybe even more so than North Hollywood (just less footage, but that doc on youtube would make great B-Roll)
It's really great to have someone making videos like this who is a firearm enthusiast and can explain what's going on with the various weapons. Also, good call on NOT describing how to illegally modify a rifle. When you started into that, I thought, "Come on man, don't just explain it like that."
Its a right to protect what's yours, yeah? Man up. If the burglar is in your house with a gun, your gonna cry like a bitch? You'll be dead before police come. Protect your home
The fact that this hasn't ever been turned into a movie is crazy to me. I remember watching this about 20 years ago thinking this is the most insane shoot out I've ever herd of by 2 dudes covered in Kevlar.
Yea now that u mentioned it 44 mins is more like a bad "documentary movie" than a good modern big screen movie. Awesome video. I searched for ‘the bank shootout from Heat’, and your video was recommended. I don’t know if that tells you anything re: UA-cam etc. Fantastic video man, couldn’t stop watching if I wanted to, very interesting, thanks.❤ subbed.
This was a really interesting episode, I feel like bank robberies don't get covered much in the true crime community so seeing more like this would be really good. Plus you showing off your gun knowledge and knowing what the shooters were doing was refreshing, that's another thing I think a lot of crime youtubers don't talk about (which to be fair, is mostly because of youtube).
And yet the stupid Liberals and Democrats wanted to ban guns? Imagine the cops and citizens not being able to afford firearms to protect themselves. Wanna know the funny story how these robbers got to go rob the bank? The Liberals and the Liberal Court Judge allowed these 2 convicts to be released early and given their guns to help pay back any fines.
I really like the emphasis on how important the guns were to this event. I was taught by my dad, who collected guns, what certain types of guns do. I knew all the gun talk you were going through, but it’s cool to see someone explain it in a way that’s easy to grasp for other people who know nothing about firearms and let them understand how complex they are to operate. Truly, you’ve become one of my favorite creators on UA-cam and every video you make slaps so hard.
It's funny how people who use guns in the US are usually seen as heroes but where I come from(Scotland) you'd be seen as a coward for hiding behind a gun rather than using your fists EDIT: not trying to start any arguements since it's two completely diferent countries and cultures.
@@davieboy45123 I'd personally argue that outside of self defense or if someone's life is at risk, fighting in general is cowardly. And if you need to defend yourself, why not use the most effective tool at your disposal? But like you said, two different cultures.
@@davieboy45123 When other people have guns who don't have good intentions, the most logically effective way to take care of that threat is by using a gun and not your fists. I agree that using a gun is cowardly in say, a bar fight that escalated, but if you only ever use a gun to stop those who want to harm others with a gun, I say that's pretty respectable and far from cowardly.
i remember learning about this when i was like 12 and being completely perplexed by it. it's almost too good to be true, how can a shootout like this not only happen in broad daylight (in the middle of LA) but get basically recorded in it's entirety? crazy stuff lol

I gotta say, as messed up as what they did is. I teared up a bit at the part about Emil saluting his fallen friend, again, not condoning their actions. But the level of respect and comradery is admirable if viewed on it's own.
What makes it sadder is that Larry was purported to have been a very cold, cajoling person who viewed most people, even relatives, as pawns and scapegoats for his schemes. Emil had been a down-and-out for most of his life and probably viewed Larry as his one true friend. Larry, on the other hand, likely viewed Emil as a desperate, easy-to-manipulate puppet
@@MS-gb3ev I don't even really need to express how I genuinely feel, as I couldn't say no more than you have already. I do in a sense feel for the both of them though (considering how many bank robberies wendigood told us happened around this time)
It's pretty intense to see that doesn't matter how fucked up someone can be, it still can present some traces of humanity... that makes these cold assassins bank robers feel less like villains and more like "something that went wrong", a lost opportunity to have a decent person. It still is very bad, don't get me wrong, but in a very sad way... in a different world they could have been nice people.
Would your tear up when terrorist mourns the loss of his comarade? Criminals are in it all for themselves, at all costs. They don’t care about you, they only care about completing their objectives They will not hesitate to shoot you if you get in the way, you’re just collateral damage...
I’ve only heard about the repercussions of this crime, the increased firepower carried by police. Not the actual reasons behind why the robbers did it. Fascinating

He may not have understood that, in the movies cars stop bullets so people think that's how it really is.
well it depends on the range to the gun.

In germany for example they cover accident sites so people don't stop to watch and hinder things going on around them but also especially in accidents or for victims it is disrespectful to watch for enterprise
(There's also fines these days for people that do that which i fully agree with)

😂
>told everyone what he said too
Oh no you didn't
Yeah this definitely happened
this scene is actually the most realistic gunfight scene is any movie ever, so its incredibly wrong
>Heavily armed robbers robbing a bank
>What is so unrealistic
How is it unrealistic in the first place? They would shoot up everyone at that location with that firepower and ammo.
I see a lot of people in these comments backing up these cops who let Emil bleed to death. A few things to make note of-
- These two are pretty noble gunmen all things considered- in several reports it's noted they moved civilians into the bank vault when they began preparing for a gunfight because they didn't want anyone uninvolved and innocent needlessly in the middle of what was about to turn into a "bulletstorm".

Nah dude probably had a bad feeling that happens to me sometimes

I would love to see more breakdowns of shootouts. You’re right, it’s not really covered in the true crime community, and it is fascinating.
i think the risk is adding to the glamorisation of it, and it going the way of mass shootings, where it increases due to desire for infamy and notoriety. so, one has to be very careful with how they go about it. this one works because no one died, the shooters are dead, no money got stolen, and it is now virtually impossible to do what they did due to introduced methods of policing and robbery prevention (as well as identification methods).
@@shadycatz85 To be honest covering murders runs the same risk.

The reason he walked out is because it had become unusually quiet outside especially that a major road was next to the bank and the time of day would mean a lot of traffic. The lack of traffic was as a result of the cops blocking off the road
You got that from the documentary
The bank robber was lucky in the sense that: he’s drum mag even fed, back then they were notoriously horribly at jamming, and that his dissipator AR-15 was able to shoot properly. The dissipator is the most unreliable version of a 16” barrel because the gas port can’t get enough gas down it to function 99% of the time. Bro literally picked the WORST rifle with the WORST possible mag choice and lucked the hell out with almost zero malfunctions.
His luck was so good he should’ve just gone and played the lottery, won, and avoid the shootout.

@@austinknowlton1783 yeah but then he cut the barrel from 20” to 16” which is what causes the issue.
