Here I compare the speed difference between 2 motors,
Yamaha 9.9 hp vs Suzuki 2.5 hp full throttle Speed Comparison using 11 foot Saturn Inflatable boat.
Both motors reached maximum speed with wide open throttle (WOT).
Yamaha : 31 kms/hr ~ 20 Miles/hr.
Suzuki: 7 Kms/hr, ~ 4 Miles/hr. - Наука та технологія
Nice mate! Just got me a new Suzuki 9.9 EFI, it's a litter heavier but no carbs to deal with and super quiet on the water 👍
That is a very nice motor, enjoy it.
@@IroncladTrading thanks, still breaking it in the San diego bay!
the suzuki 9.9B is the EFI one, the normal 9.9 is carbd
It's crazy how weight sensitive these small motors are.
I have a Mercury 3.5 and with me alone on a 2.4m dinghy it planes easily and reaches up to 22km/h.
Add another person and planing becomes impossible with the top speed barely hitting 10km/h
Absolutely, these small motors can't handle much weight
Its the dynamics of the boat not just the engine
I've a Mercury 3.3 modified (maybe 4hp) on the 2.5 RIB which is 20Km/h
Is that a RIB or Inflatable keel?
I have the same results with 6hp & 2.7m& 200kg weight (2person+acc)
Whereever you sit on the boat, it doesn't make a change.
Good comparison - thanks!
Thanks for watching
wow its amazing how adding a little weight bogs down the 2.5. Lots of videos of one-man boats going pretty fast with it.
yes, the 2.5 cant handle much weight, I would not recommend it for more than one man small boat .
armorlol i have a 2,75 meter boat and a 2,5 and iT reach 17 kph!!
armorlol Two strokes are way faster
MW Gaming what kind of boat is that? Mine cant get into plane, and run only 5mph with the 2.5hp
I have 2,4 meter boat 2,5 suzuki and it reach 20 kph
I 'need' a motor for a raft for the flatwater on multiday whitewater trips. I have little experience with outboards. These are the two motors I'm considering. This said everything no other research could. Thank you.
You are welcome.
Any thoughts on a good condition.. used 2009 Yamaha 4hp? I'm looking at two used motors and trying to decide. One is a 2019 Mercury 2.5 at $500.. and the other is the 2009 Yamaha 4hp at $450 (tho I think I can talk him down to $400). The Yamaha also comes with an external fuel tank and connections. I'm looking to put it on a 10.5 foot dinghy.
I would take the Yamaha but after good inspection.
That Mercury is basically a free motor as you can use it for 5 years and still get $500 for it
I'm looking to purchase this boat (well the mars 11' with marine plywood floors rather than aluminum) and was wondering if you know what speeds to expect from a 6hp vs 10hp with 2 passengers and about 500lbs between passengers and gear.
Steven Fortney you are looking at about ~15 kms/hr (10-12 miles/hr)
That's pretty good, but I read that an 8hp 2 stroke is the same weight as a 6 4stroke. Any personal preference between the two types, and which is better?
Steven Fortney I havent had 2 strokes here because cant find it new and it is prohibited on some lakes so for me personally I would go with the 6hp new 4 stroke
ComputersAndWeb thanks for the advice and stats, it's very helpful!
Steven Fortney Good luck and all the best.
Nice comparison I've got 2.5 myself
Congrats. You will be happy with it.
Can you tow a wakeboard, water skis or any towable with 9.9hp ? Do you think it will be enough to have fun on the water?
I am thinking of buying Tobin Sports 3.3m and description says it can hold up to 15hp motor
I have 2.5hp Suzuki it's a really great outboard, it fits in the trunk easily and very light
Thanks for the comparison!
I never towed with the 9.9 but have nothing but praise for that motor , had more than enough power for my needs.
Now that's what I m talking about fast and smooth.
Yes :)
Great comparison.
Thank you.
I have a little RIB 260 with a mercury 2.5 hp 4 stroke, what do you think is the speed on that? With no equipment and one person also
Probably somewhere around 5 mph.
I was thinking about getting the 2.5 for my pelican bass raider 10e but its kinda slow I might need to bump it up to a 3.5 or a 4.0
Yes, I had both. The 2.5 is slow especially when I carry a passenger.
@@IroncladTrading im thinking about going with one of those cheap Amazon special outboards because brand name outboards are difficult to find these days
@@steveneaton4236 I have no experience with those. I usually buy either Yamaha or Suzuki.
Not really much comparison like comparing a Robin Reliant and Jaguar, weight distribution does make a huge difference, two up tank forwards both occupants foreword we used to plane a 2.3m with a 4hp with one it flew eventually
What size props did you have on these?
9 1/4 x 11
Do those wheels block your way when you try to make a sharp turn?
No they don't
Does the boat go on plane easy with the 9.9
yes it does
Is it worth 2.5 pk suzuki for two people? Iam confused wich 2.5 or 6 pk suzuki for my inflatable boat 320 cm, 6 pk weight is 25 kg..
With 2.5 you will be slow, It will work but slow. If you want speed then go with 6hp.
@@IroncladTrading which one do u choose ? If u are in my situation, for fishing 2 people, sometimes one person, friend ? Is it easy to lift up 6 hp outboard? Coz This is my first time
@@adrianade5807 if most of the time, it's 1 person then go with the 2.5 . If you carry a passenger often then go with 5 or 6 hp.
@@IroncladTrading thanks friend
@@adrianade5807 My pleasure.
Which transom wheels are you using? Are they good?
I ordered them from Saturn store. Yes they are good.
Suzuki 2.5 is a very reliable and portable little motor.
Absolutely, I am very happy with it.
how long is the boat? is it a SIB?
11 ft
Is it a hard of air floor?
Air floor
Ditch the wellies !! Not a good look 😂 love the video 😃👍
Agree They don't look nice
Lost mine in the mud last year 😂
Wow, where do you usually go?
On the end of my feet !! 😂 lost them at Mont Saint-Michel in France, couldn't get them out of the mud in 5 feet of water. Waiting for them to wash up in UK waters 😂
Interesting..., I have never been to France. Must be beautiful out there...
I don't think your throttle was half open.
well obviously the more hp the more speed .its like haveing a race with a 125cc motor bike a a 1000cc motort bike . but did like your videos they are fun to see
Thanks for watching , ofcourse I know the difference , it's always fun to test various motors on the same boat, since I have them why not.
Very good, exactly what I was looking for.
Seems to me the 2.5 is pretty well worthless; I'd achieve the same or possibly better speeds with my 55lb trolling motor. And with the trolling motor, I'd at least be quiet and not spook the fish.
Thanks. Glad I was able to help
How many miles can you go with 55lb trolling motor + 12v/105ah battery?
confirmed, top speed on any trolling motor is limited, via rpm limit, to 4mph.
@@boatsandoutboards9070 it’s not really about miles. It’s more based on battery percentage. If your on the water, a fully charged battery with a 55lb trolling motor will last anywhere between 4-7 hours
I just brought home an 8ft inflatable Mercury like that boat but with a 2.2hp outboard.
Know I'll have fun w it but definitely keeping my eye out to upgrade the motor!!
It says 5hp max for the 2 person dinghy... 9 or 10 is a pretty bad idea then I take it(?)
I'd like to go 5 for sure!
Hi Linda
Yes don't push your boat, if you put a heavy motor on the transom it may break or at least separate the seal around it. I would say 5 hp is the maximum you can go with for that little boat. Enjoy :)
@@IroncladTrading thank you so much... since then I've tried a 5hp and it's fun but boy is it heavy! I load my dinghy partially inflated in my SUV and fully inflate it at the water... then put on the motor. The 5 is tough and a lot of work!!
I was also informed that would be a hefty fine if stopped. Appreciate your answer, I'm learning every day;)
@@lindabelinske2381 why would they fine you? I have a 6hp that i take all the time in my suv
@ComputersAndWeb... nothing to do with transportation in auto vehicle. You'd get fined by marine patrol for using a motor larger then what your dinghy has clearly labeled for max on what is also clearly labeled as a three person craft. Add more people or higher hp than what it's made for and you get fined.
Maybe you have a 4 or more person with larger capabilities or maybe you've just never been stopped, idk. But for mine, it's not worth the risk!
@@lindabelinske2381 mine can take up to 9.9 , I never exceed the limit stated on the label.
What size is your boat?
12 ft
@@IroncladTrading ty
@@IroncladTrading how fast can you go with 9.9hp
@@dennislabrador3554 about 20 - 25 mph
@@IroncladTrading wow that is not bad at all..
That 2.5 still get the job done the newer 9.9 get you moving
Absolutely
How long can the 9.9 run on wot
As long as there is gas in the tank, but I wouldn't push it for too long.
They will go forever
I have the newest version of this 2,5hp outboard and i put it on a small rubberboat and went like hell (24 kmph) i raced some guys with a 4hp yamaha and won by a mile.
i had a smaller boat though
Nice... They are good motors.

@@easyrider9260 may be yours is different year, mine was on full throttle
@@IroncladTrading ok then
Mine is 2014
Maybe they are different
WOW ,you mean to tell me that a 9.9hp motor will out preform a 2.3hp motor? Alert the news media. Duh.....
It is 2.5 hp not 2.3. The purpose here is to measure the speed difference that is all.
Still even at 2.5hp this was a very poor comparison. Even my 9 year old granddaughter could have told you that the 2,5hp motor would be at least 4 time as fast as the 9.9hp. What is next, a video showing that a 2000 pound vehicle with a Volkswagen engine is faster than 4000 pound vehicle with a Volkswagen engine ? Maybe there is a reason that out of 1.2k subscribers you have had only 2 comments before mine (one of which was commenting on your fashion choice in footwear) in the last year. Just something to think about
You are entitled to your opinion. I have 88 thumbs up on this video. We can't please everyone. I have had few watchers asking me which size of motor they should buy for their small boat. This video helps to give an idea.
88 like and 12 dislikes out of 1.2k subscribers....you should be proud
