Beautiful quilt block!! I found the camera to be too far away from Jenny to be helpful. I prefer the camera to directly above what her hands are doing.
❤
I used "20 layer cakes" - I inwardly gasped until I realized you meant 20 pieces from the layer cake. It's a beautiful quilt - and wonderful video work! Thanks for sharing!!!!!!!
Ok I was wondering
I was thinking the same!
I love this block! Jenny, you always make everything look sew easy!
I miss having the screen that lists all the fabric requirements. Would like to see that come back along with a listing of the different rulers that are used.
Hi. If you tap on the title of the video, "Make a 'Christmas Star' Quilt..." on the first page of the tutorial, you will find that important information. Happy Quilting!
What a fun quilt! Your block is so much more interesting than the original solid color block. Seems to me you could make this whole block using the two-at-a-time no waste flying geese blocks, 16 geese per block, plus some squares and rectangles of the background.
4 at a time is even faster. 5 1/4" square from background, 4 small squares from the accent, 2 7/8" . Much easier.
@@MrsGraphiteGal OK! I WILL DO IT! WHERE are the directions for this method?
@@airmom8716 Just do an internet search for flying geese x4 method. I could explain it in a video but you can't post links.
Oh Jenny I just love this quilt!! I think three blocks would also make a lovely table runner!! Thanks for the great tutorial!!
I was thinking something simular, a Bed Runner. Hey maybe a set 😉
Beautiful quilt, Jenny! You are always a delight to watch! I have learned so, so much from you! Thanks for being part of my life!
Great quilt. Going to try it. Seemed a little rushed. Like to hear you chat with us.
I agree, it felt rushed, but having watched so many of MSQC's videos, I could follow her instructions. Newbies might have more difficulty. However, as fast as Jenny went, it still used over 25 minutes of my monthly data -- very worth it in the end, but seeing 25 on the timer made me hesitate to click on it this month. Do absolutely love the pattern! And I'm the odd duck who would actually do at least one block by hand, just for the retro experience! 😺💕🐾
Hi Jenny, this is a wonderful pattern!! Thanks so much. I wish you would show in another tutorial how to make the red star block in the old quilt 🙂 Best, Sabine (from Germany)
I think that's a carpenter star - but just done smaller
I think they already have a tutorial on the carpenters star using HST's. The problem with that is it alters the proportions.
A true carpenters star is made using Y-seams so if you're not a fan, the other way might be better.
I love seeing these old blocks with the new fabrics. Beautiful!
I love this! It would make an adorable Christmas quilt too!
I hear you saying mantras when I piece quilts. :) I think its because I learned to quilt from you.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE watching Jenny’s tutorials !!!! Every Friday it’s my treat with a cup of coffee!!
Has the lighting changed? The last two videos have seemed darker than normal. It’s a little hard for me to see it as well as before . 😊not complaining just wondering if this is a new thing or maybe it will go back to the brighter look?
🙌
This is a very unique quilt. It looks like a lot of work, but I guess not with the way you do it. I might change the Mr. Mustard color to Mr. Mint...like your iron. Cactus colors might be interesting, too, because that's what the blocks look like. Thanks!
Hello Pretty how are you doing,
where are you from?
Ohhhh, I can see this in a Christmas fabric for a pillow!! Lovely!
Great idea
With 2 blocks across and 3 blocks down plus sashing and borders it would be the perfect size that my quilt guild makes for children we donate quilts to. I would just use colorful colors for the kids and cute prints for the 4-1/2” blocks.
I think this would be great in Christmas fabric. Ok I'm already thinking about Christmas.
Love this block!! What a great block to use
In seasonal fabrics to be made into pillows!!
I was thinking the same! Think I’m going to try it this weekend 😊 🎄
Great block. 3 would make a great table runner and 4 could be a bed runner.
Thanks, Jenny! You break things down step by step, and it really helps me see that I can do this! Blessings to you and your family!
You may every quilt look so easy. I have watched you for years, and every quilt looks so easy! However, I wish you would give us the block size. Sometimes I want to make a pillow using the leftover fabric, and it would be so helpful to have the block size so I would know what size my matching pillow would be. Thanks for many years of beautiful and easy quilts!! ❤❤❤
If the squares are 4,5” and the geese are 2,5x4,5” before sewing them together, the finished block will be 16”.
16 1/2" OR 17" is the finished block? You need 16 blocks= 80x80 quilt with 1 1/2" strips between the blocks and outer edge and then a 6" outer border.
16 1/2" is unfinished and 16" is finished!
I love this pattern! It looks like it would be so fun to make. It may be a Christmas quilt in my house. Thanks Jenny
Hi Jenny, Your Quilt is really Beautiful. 👏💖👏
I am wishing You and Everyone at MSQC a Fantastic Fall Weekend. I hope the leaves in Missouri are putting on a terrific show for you all to enjoy. The leaves here are getting pretty and it makes for an enjoyable ride anywhere you go. ❤️❤️❤️ God Bless Everyone 🥰👍, Chris - Raleigh NC
This block (& quilt) is very pretty!! Thank you Jenny!! 😍
I can see those 4.5” squares fussy cut from Tula Punk fabrics or any other really great fabrics.
Thank you for making complicated blocks easy!!! I look forward to Friday mornings, just so I can see your video!!! Thanks again Jenny!!!!!
Jenny this is wonderful. I love the old block too. You really know how to explain it so well. Thank you. You are really a genius.💯👍❤️😺🎚️🙏
Looks very much like an Idaho block. So pretty!
One of those blocks can be done any size any number ... just need some maths. Gorgeous. Thankyou🌸
Apart from you're limited by the flying geese size to some degree as they are usually 2:1 ratio.
Jenny, Making my day again! I am WONDERING, WHAT IF I used the leftover 10" squares for the outside border(whatever size it would be!). I have to calculate that out! This is SO GORGEOUS! I want to make it with the Robert Kaufman PINK LEMONADE layer cake! I have been loving that fabric for so long, and WHAT would I make with it? This is the perfect pattern! I just have to pick out 2 dark colors for the triangles! The amazing thing is that this uses only 1/2 of the layer cake!
Absolutely love this Corner Star quilt. I’m definitely going to try making it. Jennie you make it look so easy
Thank you for all of your videos 👍😊❤️
My son just got married. His favorite color is red and her favorite color is green. This might be a great Christmas gift for them.
Another fun and gorgeous quilt..😍🧵🪡
Jenny, this is a Beauty! Did you say one of the names for it is 'cross plains'?
Beautiful...my next quilt.
One big block would make an awesome wall hanging or baby quilt Somebody do the quilt math for me
Me too! I want to leave my charm sqs intact.
What size are you wanting it to be?
Thanks Jenny, lovely quilt. The colors in the block you made were so pretty.
You definitely made it easier than it looked at the beginning
Thanks Jenny for showing use this old time block and remaking it in a easier construction. Would most definitely make a great patriotic quilt. Would love to see you do a video/series on crumb quilting.
Using the no-waste 4x method for Flying geese would add another layer of efficiency and less waste to this beautiful and charming quilt.
Agree -much better method especially when the wings are all that same. 1 x 5 1/4" square from background, 4 x 2 7 /8" from accent fabric.
@@MrsGraphiteGal Agreed...but for variable sky pieces you can mix up the squares for greater scrappiness...I would upsize slightly using (1) 5.5" square and (4) 3" squares with sliver trim down. I use Deb Tucker's Wing Clipper as trim down which saves me time and ensures a perfect unit every time.
Oh yes for sure you can still do scrappy, I think the queen of would look nice using scraps.
I've not got her wing clipper, got some of the others. I often do size up a bit to give some wriggle room.
*quilt
Your job is half done If you don't select yardage. That's half the creating. Sorry. We don't have much choice for layer cakes and jelly rolls.
Oh my gosh what a gorgeous quilt! I am wondering though, why do you diagonal cut the blue corners to sew on the white squares instead of snowballing the white square? Does it change the size and would you need a larger white block to begin with? Just curious because I love snowballing, ha ha. Thanks again for another amazing tutorial. I love when you do the old block remakes!
I don't understand how you start with a 4 1/2 inch rectangle and add 2 2 1/2 squares to make a geese unit and then are able to square off to a 4 1/2 inch rectangle, please help, i have having trouble making this quilt's corners match up. that being said I like the pattern.
Lovely easy - ish block 🥰
This is a precious quilt. The four at a time flying geese method would make cutting and sewing go faster. Have you ever used that method?
Is there any reason we can't make 8 hst's at a time? Seems like it'd be quicker.
I'm sure u can.
There are no HST's in the quilt. Do you mean flying geese, in which case you can make 4 at a time.
I was wondering what size this beautiful quilt turn out to be. Love it and is there a pattern for it. Thank you
Nice pattern. On the vintage red one the stars on the corner looked like chicken feet. I think it would be fun in a chicken fabric with yellow stars on the corners for the feet?
Jenny you forgot to close your rotary cutter!!!!! Was closing my eyes when you got close to the cutter. Very nervous for you.
Love this quilt Jenny! Thank you and have a great weekend.
so pretty
amazing, beautiful and.....🥰
Changing the colors will make a nice Christmas quilt
Hello Sandi how are you doing,
where are you from?
I have noticed the last few videos are very soft, had to turn the computer up to hear.
You always teach me something new.
Another another beautiful quilt pattern Jenny! ❤❤❤
Love your idea making square in a square instead of the inner flying geese. Very clever Jenny. 😮
The original quilt also used diamond squares, otherwise you'd have a central seam.
Hi.
I think you need a little sign that says wonkieness can happen at any moment!
This is nice! I hope you’ll also teach us how to make the roundish block that was also in the quilt. It reminds me of the carpenter’s square. TFS🌷
They have a tutorial already for one made using HST's instead of the traditional method.
@@MrsGraphiteGal thank you for enlightening me on that. 😊🌷
Has you ever done a tutorial on your crumb bin?
Wow Jenny you make the hardest looking block so simple. Thank you it is so much I love your tutorials
This is wonderful! I have some Christmas material that has six and a half inch pictures, and it will look great in this block, if I can get the darn math right! I am having trouble figuring out how to cut the flying geese on the sides-my efforts so far have been interesting, but not usable. Jenny may be angley challenged-I am calculating challenged. Any math teachers here? Thanks.
Th flying geese units finish at 4 x 2. Look up the X4 method flying geese. You make 4 at a time. One large square of background should be 5 1/4" , plus 4 x small squares from the geese fabric, they need to be 2 7/8" . This should result in geese that are the exact size (4.5 x 2.5" ) without any waste.
You are absolutely right! Such a versatile block and my mind was already going through the layer cakes that I have… thank you for everything and have a safe and fun Happy Halloween! 🧵🎃
We need 20 layer cakes or 20 pieces of a layer cake
Cute!
Jenny I agree with Lori Hollis. Just back from vacation and I feel like I have missed so many of your tutorials. Going to get caught up - after I unpack and wash laundry. That is the hardest thing about vacation -- coming home and unpacking!!!!!
Ha! I’ll never look at a square in a square again without seeing potential flying geese. In the original did the maker use the square in a square as well? I couldn’t see well enough to be sure.
Yes they did, no central seam and you're best having as few seams as possible in a block. The diamond square is better as well because it reduces the bulk you'd get joining flying geese together.
This reminds me of a Hawaiian quilt block pattern! I was born and raised in Hawai'i and I always loved the Hawaiian quilts but I'm so intimidated by applique! I am still trying to figure out how to create those patterns but do it by piecing and this one is absolutely beautiful!
That machine is just amazing-those blue triangles added to the white squares just went under the presser foot so easily! Mine not so much 🤣🤣 even though I have an older Baby Lock Ellure! Turned out beautiful!
I love this quilt, from fabric, block, to complete quilt, it is lovely. I can see it in so many different colorways. Thanks for the wonderful tutorial. It let's me know that even if a block looks challenging, it is possible for me to make it. Love you Jenny. You've been my quilting instructor since 2016 and I adore you. Have a great weekend!
I agree with everyone else who has commented- a great quilt. I also agree that it would be great if you took some of the other blocks in your "gifted" quilt top and made easy quilts!! Thank you for your tutorials- I've learned so much and continue to be inspired. 😁
HI ! JENNY I RECIEVED MY CHRISTMAS BOX TODAY OCT. 28TH , MY BOX WAS WET ON ONE SIDE , BUT NOT TO BAD , I THINK ITS ADORABLE I HAVE BEEN FEELING ALL THE PACKS TRYING TO FIND OUT WHATS IN THEM JUST LIKE A CHILD , I LOVE THE BOX PLAN ON USEING IT FOR STORAGE , CANT WAIT TO OPENING THEM BUT I AM WAITING . THANKS JENNY THIS MY CHRISTMAS GIFT TO ME 🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄
Great quilt was wondering about the quilt towards the side behind you and if you have done a tutorial for it, I just love star quilts.
Is that the 'missouri star " quilt?
Missouri Star quilt?
She has a tutorial from 8 years ago for that quilt
Knocked this one out of the park Jenny…. Easy peasy block that looks so awesome..love the accent colors you used as well… may have to get a yard or two… just downloaded the pattern which is so helpful when cutting…hopefully I can start this one soon. Thanks Jenny…
CHRISTMAS STOCKING TUTORIAL
This quilt is beautiful. Thanks for sharing your video with all of us. Love your channel, I learn so much from you and the other gals. Thanks again.❤
I like the looks of the block without the flying geese and realize it's no longer a star. Another sashing would make a totally different block. Just a thought.
I can see Misty making this quilt small using charm packs. Such creative ladies. 💕
Maybe she will 😊😊
THAT is too funny! You are thinking out of the box! You have a good creative brain!
You always make it seem so easy. I love it. That pattern is definitely on my to make list. I have a Batik layer cake in my stash just calling my name. Just need to get contrast fabric. Love it!!! Thank you for sharing.
So cute! I may have to try this quilt. I am currently working on Into the Woods Quilt. I have to admit the log cabins are kicking my butt. lol
Love it, so pretty. This could be done bold and flashy or elegant and romantic. Thanks for sharing it!
Jenny, you always make it look so easy!! It’s is such a beautiful block! Thank you! 💛💛🌻💛💛
Beautiful block and I love this video! There is a lot going on to make all the units for the block. I love that you gave us so many little tips along the way that can help with this block and many more! Thank you!
How beautiful, thinking it would be a great table runner also! Thanks Jenny for another great quilt idea.
This looks great! I have some layer cakes sitting around so I think this will be a fantastic project for at least one of them! Thanks Jenny!!😊
Love this quilt!! Definitely going to try making g this one. Thanks for a great video.
Can anyone tell me the pattern or video for the quilt that is hanging on the wall to Jenny’s left when they show her from the side? I really want to try that one!! Thanks!
Oh that would be a great Christmas nice tutorial jenny u never disappoint thx for all u do
Thank you, Genny, another nice pattern. I use my 2 1/2 inch ruler all the time, probably more than any other one.
You have a gift of making difficult EASIER
Wonderful quilt!❤️
I just love a gorgeous star quilt. They just get me "hooked" every time. Gorgeous!
20 layer cakes or 20 pieces of a layer cake? You said 20 layer cakes and I thought that was alt.
Seriously? The pattern says ONE LAYER CAKE, Obviously!
20 pieces plus the contrast & background fabrics.
LOL !! I think we all were thinking that !! BAAHAA!! Had to check the supply list !!
@@rhondawaldron well maybe you know that but I am just starting to quilt, so there was no reason to be a rude jerk.
Beautiful quilt, how much yardage do you need in loo of layer cakes
Beautiful quilt that you’ve turned into an easy pattern for us! Thanks Jenny💕
Beautiful quilt! TY Jenny Doan for showing how it goes together.
You could use that block you made and create a quillow pocket for your quilt.
Such a beautiful and interesting block. Very nice.
