For generations, the world’s best millstones all came from one quarry in France. And when that quarry ran out, they did just what we would do:
They used the scraps to make patchwork stones with cement sashing and iron binding-pretty to look at and practical, too.
This week, Natalie is stitching up her own pieced “millstones” with precut layer cake squares from West Palm Beach by Jennifer Paganelli for Windham Fabrics. These blocks are easy to make, with enough left over for a bonus table runner.

In the middle of Hurricane Helen with no power (grateful for generator), no TV service, intermittent Internet, incredible wind & rain, huge trees down, & it’s only the beginning. Trying to watch Natalie to escape the obvious! MSQC is always there for us! THANK YOU NATALIE & MSQC!🫶🛐🫶
Take care. ❤ from New Zealand.😮
I'm awake listening to the winds, too. Night time is the worst for huge storms!
Quilting and MSQC video's, it's a wonderful way to calm ourselves during less than peaceful weather.
Stay safe and know that others are praying for the safety and well-being of our friends in stormy locations.
Please be safe 🙏🏼
Stay safe!
Thanks Natalie I put it on my list
wow, that is not the block I saw - I saw 4 of the sashed hsq sewn together with a "sashing" of charm squares and the white cornerstone... Natalie's way is very cool!
I know what you mean. It fools the eye.
Great Job Natalie!
You are an excellent quilt teacher!
What a beautiful, simple pattern. Thank you, Natalie ❤🎉😊
This quilt looks much more complicated than it actually is. I love the fabric line you chose Natalie. What a great tutorial. Thanks so much.
This quilt is beautiful!
This is so beautiful! It looks like a modified churn dash. Took me awhile to figure out why it looked so familiar; but I really like it. It’s very geometric. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Absolutely gorgeous Natalie. You knocked it out of the park!♥️
What is the name of the 108" backing fabric?
My seam curves off to the left almost every time. Drives my crazy!
Beautiful quilt. Love the fabric and the clever pattern. 😊
Such a great design Nat!!! Love it! So cheerful!!!
Beautiful quilt, Natalie. I have a bunch of 10 inch squares. All I need is the background squares. Going to try this.
Please everyone please stay safe and in my. Thoughts and prayers for you and your loved ones ❤
Great tutorial Natalie and so simple. Thank you❤
Super tutorial! It really is beautiful with all the colors and patterns! Looks more complicated than you made it seem! Thanks!
Sometimes the easiest patterns makes the most stunning quilts. Of course, your fabric choice makes a difference too. You’re an excellent teacher.
Lovely tutorial ❤ Thanks Natalie 🙏
Natalie, I love this quilt! I don’t usually like using a 1” piece but the effect is gorgeous! Thank you for the wonderful tutorial!❤
Natalie stunning block design. More sewing but ohhhh so worth it. I find this relaxing as all the same as you said chain piecing.
Great job! This would be great 3 color quilt, too!!
I love this quilt block! It really does look involved! Who knew it was so simple. Great job, Natalie!❤
Thanks Natalie. I know it would be a totally different look, but I am looking for a scrap cheddar and navy quilt. I think it could be kind of cool. Well done!
How fun! I love what you said about it being smaller not harder. Great attitude, easy to follow, I have a layer cake perfect for this pattern. I love the table runner with the leftovers too! Thank you for sharing.
Beautiful quilt! Thanks Natalie! 💕
Natalie, this is a fun quilt. I didn’t see the blocks at first. Saw the square in a square. Putting this on my to do list. Thank you 🎉
Beautiful quilt Natalie. I love it. Funny, even after you made it, I still couldn’t place it in your quilt. I know you showed us but it was too fast for me, lol. Seemed so easy to make and fun. Thank you. Natalie, you look so nice as usual and you always put on such a nice tutorial…
Great tutorial Natalie. 💕 Thank you.
If you get some clear bandage tape and put it on the end of the ruler that you are using, it will grab the fabric just enough to keep the ruler from slipping and you can still see the markings on the ruler. You might want to put some of the tape on both ends of the ruler☺️!
Natalie, you always have the cutest patterns.
Thank you to show the chain connection part! It will help me keep a block together as I must work on quilts in 'snippets'!
wow Natalie. that is a beautiful quilt. i Love the backing as well
Great quilt and tutorial! Thank you Natalie.

Lovely Quilt! Thank you, Natalie!!!
So simple yet it looks like it's complicated. Thanks Nat.
I live this quilt, thankyou Natalie. Hugs, Chel 🌸
I appreciate hearing that your quarter inch seams are not always consistent and that one end swerves a bit. I have the same problem!! Your quilts always look perfect!
Very fun quilt! And I love that baking!! You are a great designer and teacher Nat. Thank you for continuing to teach us and giving us a new tutorial each Friday.
I live on a property that has a grist mill and saw mill. This would be the perfect quilt to use in my miller’s house.
Well done Natalie ❤
Way to go!!
Very pretty!!
