Modify your air filter housing for more airflow

- A visual discription on how to modify the factory air filter housing to allow more airflow into the airbox, producing the majority of the gains of a CAI when combined with an aftermarket air filter.
Put a screen mesh under it if you can open the box. Keeps the leaves out and small debris like feathers and grass out too.
nice
If I don’t do this, will it ruin the car?
@@daniyaltariq6452 it won't ruin your car but it will dirty the air filter pretty quickly. My idea at least keeps the big debris out. Hot glue a square of screen mesh under the holes.
i recommend fiber glass woven fabric better than steel mesh/stainless steel cause it could rust/break with moisture/rain but either way both could potentially lead to harm without the right inspections and care
No mesh required - just keep those drill holes alot smaller
Did it today... damn engine has alotttttt more sound, aggressive lol. Awesome.
I had a n16 1.8 pulsie now it sounds like a mean asf wrx though I welded my whole air box to create best airflow this is the sickest thing that can be done to a vehicle
Did it on my f250 v10 plus drop a k&n filter....increased air flow thus more horse power...better gas mileage....
How much more hp and gas mileage do you think?
@@REBEL1-16nothing to write home about if people are gaining hp from this mod it’s no more than 5 at the most and that’s a stretch realistically most people are getting a 2-3 hp gain but it probably sounds better for sure
@tattletalestrangler5109 it actually caused really had hesitation issues in my car after a good while so I taped the holes back up.
Nicely done, looks stock to the uninitiated
even the "initiated" wouldnt know.... unless the have xray vision
To the untamed eye 😂
Put the holes on the side and drill on an angle to make a drip loop so water doesn’t go I
6 spd g/ box can be fitted to 5spd box
I have a civic si that I’ve done this to, monitored the intake temps with Hondata and they’re not that much different from stock.. for anyone worried about heat soak
Nonsense, the airbox isnt there to restrict airflow or it would be just a filter in the open air. its there to provide a resonance of high pressure by the engine sucking in the air an low of pressure ready for the next cylinder.
I’ve just bought an e36 and I’m doing silly shit while I’m waiting for parts to come. So while I wait for the new exhaust I’ve drilled holes in the pipe before the back box. Everyone’s telling me to do this now 😂
Yeaaa you just got yourself a follow
Difference in performanse-torque comparing to the stock was... ?
@@Yumbutteredsausage : Like a lion's roar 😆
Run the intake into the air conditioner vent. That would be overkill.
Need to do this to my 91 escort pony. Thanks for the video
Does is affect intake sound?
What’s up will white 3.6 cts coupe here just used your concept on my stock box because our stock air box setup is a bit different but I put holes where it makes common sense and definitely feel a difference recommend for other 3.6’s ! Hear from u soon after I’m ready to purchase for that stage 3 supercharger for this bad caddy !
Going to do this to my 2014 ATS. Do I need to reset ECU and has the car ever thrown any codes from this?
I did this to one car and it never had a code come up.
@@keithc8108 thanks! I already did it, made a huge difference!!
Did you have to reset the ecu or anything? No codes or nothing like that correct? Thinking on doing this to my 2013 ats
@@swizzzle7276 didn't have to reset anything! No codes either.
@grimdevildog11 thanks! Just did it a few minutes ago. Figured if anything I could plug the 4 inch hole back up somehow lol.
Did today on my dodge journey 3.6 , now it sound like a stock hemi 😂😂😂😂😂
Does this actually make a sound difference?
Just did it to mine hope to see some gain from it.
Would it pass smog in California?
i would buy another oem box to drill holes into and swap them for smog
Will this cause any problems in emissions testing?
No I just passed
Where do I put the holes in a 2010 Camaro?
Very similar spot. I'll try and add a picture on my website but you're basically just looking for a spot on the air filter housing that will face down towards the fenderwell, to compliment the existing inlet facing forward towards the headlight. Between the two they'll draw in plenty of fresh air
run it without a airfilter
In the block.
Thanks will do this to my lfx camaro
Do you need to tune it if you do this?
Nah, just make sure you drill before the filter, not after
💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾🔥🔥🔥🔥
I’m from the UK and have a Vauxhall/Opel Astra GTC 1.4T, I’ve just dropped a K&N filter in and was wondering where to put the holes? Is it best to put them on A part of the air filter that is furthest away from the engine because of the heat?
Yes exactly, a side that faces the headlight or the side fender, or the bottom if there's access to the fenderwell, but don't put anything on the engine side if possible
On top of airbox, so the extra air still go from the top of the filter, thus using your air filter
Should be somewhere where the cops or the inspector don't see it because when they see it you are fucked.
If it was that easy don't you think the engineers who made the car would have just done that for more power?
And make it louder? Nope, they wouldn’t, just like they make exhausts quieter even though they are more restrictive, free flowing exhaust makes a slight improvement in performance but they purposely make them restrictive
@@juancorona3893 So are you saying this small mod, will also increase sound? Yay
@@anirbano yep sure does
thats not what they care about. and it is that easy, thats why cold air intakes exist... this is the uber diy version of a cold air intake without leaving your house
@@anirbano hell yes, my lfx sounds aggressive af now lol
Just rip the whole intake off..fk it
Just kN air filter an all u need to do is cut the bottom of ur air box out an leave the top of the air box on ..again just cut out the complete bottom of it an leave top attached ..with Kn N filter ... Ur lol
Why do all that when you can just buy a CAI
This is free if you're handy, a cai is not. I have a lot of customers who do a cai first and it's one of the worst bang for the buck mods on most 3.6 setups where the tubing is pretty good and the air filter housing is the restriction. The 04-07 CTS being the major exception.
CAI , Will suck more hot air then cold air because of the proximity to the engine bay .unless you get CAI heat shield / cover. Which at that point do another mode to increase performance such as bigger throttle body or ecu tune.
Does anyone want a dusty clogged air filter to go with their Swiss cheese airbox? How bout a cool sip of rain water to clean the Hydro lock
Clown
Hydrolock is the best way to keep your engine running at tip top shape. 🙃
If your engine hydro locked from this mod , that means the car was submerged up to its windows , at that point . . .
He prolly the type of guy to have a “dirty plug/clogged” house filter and is trolling this video that he “searched up “ himself to try and do 😂😂😂😂
Did your parents teach you to be this dumb, or did your brain pack up and run far, far away from you because it was sure it could do better on its own? Just wondering...
Umm no thanks I don't need extra air vacuuming in my air tank system
