    On this channel we like to do a lot of dogfighting most videos are some sort of dogfight between 2 different aircraft as we explore their different capabilities. From time to time I like to dabble in Virtual Reality, I think VR is a great new technology and I love to show that stuff off for the channel from time to time.
    If you enjoy war thunder or Microsoft flight simulator 2020 or even dogfighting in Battlefield 2042, consider getting yourself into Digital Combat Simulator by Eagle Dynamics, the Combat side of Aviation with the BVR and Dogfights really provides a different and interesting perspective on aviation. You can fly all kinds of combat aircraft including the F-16, F-15, F-14, JF-17, Su-27, Mig-29, Mirage and the F-18 Hornet along with many other aircraft and helicopters like the Ka-50 and Mi-8.

    As with all things please remember that we continue to wait for evidence to fully understand what happened in this situation but the initial reports said that drones were used to distract the ship while it was targeted with the missile. Obvs in real life there was no Su-25 attack that accompanied the missile strike but I wanted to see if we could pull it off. Thank you for watching and I'll see you in the next one.

    The lesson of the Moskva is that subsonic sea-skimmers are actually more dangerous than higher flying supersonic missiles. The intercept to kill envelope on a supersonic missile is actually much larger, and the advance warning ends up being similar due to the horizon. There is a reason why the US Navy still loves the Harpoon.

    • @scottwhitley3392
      @scottwhitley3392 2 роки тому +1

      Yep. People especially Indians cream their pants about hypersonic missiles. With sea skimmers you don’t know they are there until that last second.

    • @rameshb794
      @rameshb794 2 роки тому +26

      Nah both are equally dangerous and have their own roles. A single supersonic hit causes significantly more damage which will require multiple subsonic hits due to the sheer kinetic energy. Also supersonic is much more difficult to defeat through last ditch defences like CIWS. If subsonic is more effective than supersonic there won't be a race for hypersonic

    • @OtterTreySSArmy
      @OtterTreySSArmy 2 роки тому +9

      @@rameshb794 supersonic is actually fairly easily defeatable, literally just armor your ship.
      Yes the kinetic energy is immense, however the missile itself is not equipped with a penetrative tip, as doing so would compromise payload significantly. If you had 12in of belt armor, you'd end up with a missile disassembling itself between 6-10in within the belt, protecting the ship.
      Remember, modern missiles are designed to be used against unarmored modern warships. Something like a battleship from the WWII era would pose something of a challenge to them due to size and general survivability. Seeing that simulation, you should have clearly seen that belt armor would have saved Moskova.

    Saturation of the radar system is exactly why the Aegis system (USN) was developed. Not saying it is impossible to saturate - just that it would literally takes hundreds of potential targets, and there are filters they can use to not waste capacity on.
    So yes, I would say it was a combination of old weapons technology, (lack of ) trained personnel, and weather conditions (along with the fact that even subsonic ASM's flying at 15m (lower on the attack run) are a very difficult target). Material condition and layout of the Moskva also played a part. A missile hit to an exposed SAM missile magazine would not be a good thing - this could make doing damage control almost impossible.

      Aegis is outdated and sloppy, even s400 has less chance of stopping brahmos, you think aegis could do it ? And supersonic missile doesn't only has speed, they can perform "S" maneuvers and sea skimming at that level, supersonic 2 dozen, and hyper sonic 1 dozen, and no carrier is safe even if it's with their group. And I'm not talking about destroying all ships, only the carrier is valuable in a navy battle group.

      1. How incompetent you would have to be to lit a ship in fire
      2. Why would you ever do something dangerous with fire near missiles/ammunition stowage
      3. Why didn't they just put the fire out
      Lets say that it is possible to acidentally make a small fire on the ship. How incompetent the crew would have to be not to put that fire out, let it spread into ammunition stowage and let the fire destroy the whole ship + kill over 400 people on board (one sailor from the rescue operation told that they saved only 50 or so people (crew of Moskva was atleast 510 people)).

The S-300 could work, but turning on the radar interferred with all communication abord. Only one of the last resort defenses was operational and the damage control systems were lacking in number or actually locked away, because a lot of the stuff got often stolen. Heck, it even goes deeper than that. Engines were past their maximum operating hours, emergency lights and signals not working...

      EXACTLY. Another youtuber used DCS to simulate a missile attack on Moskva. The attack failed under good weather conditions, but one out of two Neptune SSM missiles hit when the weather was dialed up to a 30 knot gale and driving rain was introduced. The long range vertical launch missiles did not launch, but a few of their hatches started to open. The short range missiles failed to deploy AT ALL. The close in guns worked, but got only one of two missiles. The ACTUAL photo/video of the wrecked Moskva showed CALM seas, good weather, and NO hatches open. No neither of these DCS simulations seems accurate.

    The Neptune ground launched anti-ship missiles that hit the Moskva don't have that large of a payload however it's not IF you hit the ship it's WHERE you hit the ship. A fire aboard a ship at sea is one of the most deadliest things that can happen. Even if the initial impacts didn't hit the ammunition magazines initially, if a fire is set aboard and it can't be controlled it pretty much seals the fate of the ship very quickly. The sailors would have precious little time to abandon ship after the fire was declared out of control.

      насмотрелся русофобских новостей? Да, российское оружие может воевать только против мирных жителей, но тут оговорочка должна быть: если оно в руках украинских нацистов.

    There are a lot of questions here: What he did there, why the flagship was without cover, why there was a NATO scout on the ship before the explosion. Almost the entire crew was evacuated, during a missile strike, I think there were serious crew losses.

    It's hilarious seeing people critique the Russians and their equipment here. Like "they were untrained, incompetent, their equipment wasn't working, etc..."
    I hate to break it to all of you, but that's just life at sea. The British lost 4 warships to Argentinian aircraft. The US let 2 Exocets get through to hit the Stark. In recent years our warships have been fired on both in the Suez Canal and off the coast of Yemen. Honestly, for most air defense systems to actually work, you have to be expecting the attack. And even then things like the CIWS will often jam, or a sensor will miss an incoming threat. Basically, this war had been going on for over 40 days at the time, so I'm not surprised that they weren't alert to a possible threat. This isn't incompetence, it's just reality. Let's hope that NATO fleets aren't tested by war in the near future, because some of you have unrealistic expectations and will be disappointed.

    Pretty cool video and a nice thought experiment. Also an example of why litoral warfare can give the advantage to the defender. Simulators can be used to come up with new and creative ways to fight stronger oponents. I know for a fact that several arnies, including Chile, use the Steel Beast civilian simulator. No reason DCS can't be used for the same purpose
