Yeah I got a call earlier from a fella named John Adams he had a thick Indian accent but he insisted he was born and raised in Memphis Tenn. Anyhow I signed my 1947 Buick up for that warranty he also signed me up for Solar panels and new windows and doors ! Great Time to be an AMERICAN !
That is so bizarre looking. It looks tiny till you realize those are full size cars. Even then because of the proportions and angles of the drone it still almost looks miniature. I'm just having a hard time wrapping my head around just how big everything is.
I had a fellow Sergeant in Belgium that bought a new BMW to ship home tax free in acordance with regulations about POVs. She did not take maritime insurance. The ship sank in the English channel and was then hit on the bridge by a ship passing over. 50K gone! Ouch.
Andy: Consider making arrangements to visit Louisiana, when the last section of the Golden Ray arrives, and to see it's destruction. That would make a good closure video. Thanks for all the reports and videos. Get well soon. Jon
I've considered it. After the footage I've seen from the region, I am going to pass on visiting the area. I'm sure the folks there are taxed and will be focusing on recovery. They are on my mind........ MM
Going to be hard to demolish anything in New Orleans for a while. They have other things on their minds not to mention it may be weeks until the power grid is anywhere near back up. Including the power lines in the river blocking upstream traffic just above the city
Hey Andy !! Easy to see that they are going well over $$ 1Billion on this ""WRECK""!! Hope ALL the families involved with this in LA. / MS. have good & safe recovery !! Have a good week & Hope the ""STORM"" passes by with little damage !! ""KEEP IT SAFE ""!!
Man alive, you opened with the storm that got Lt. Dan to make his peace with God, aboard the shrimp boat "Jenny"! Then we switched to playing "Toss the Toyota". Andy, it's great to have you back. Thanks!
He was tossing them. Next time I’ll get a better point of view. If you look at the length of the boom, it would struggle to reach from where it was positioned all the way across the barge to where the cars were ending up. Crazy to watch and hear. MM
Crane and heavy equipment operators are usually pretty skilled (and decently paid).Decades ago, there was a TV game where a back-hoe operator was tasked to grab, transport and drop an egg with his machine. Most of the time it was a success.
Andy, good to see you up and about. Thank you for the great photographs. The " stills " would compliment any gallery wall, even though your videos line the walls of the internet. Cheers from Morro Bay, California.
What a horrible storm to say the least, my heart and prayers go out to all who had to endure this storm and especially those whom lost property and the unthinkable lose of lives….🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
It's amazing. The scale of it's amazing. I like the way the operator lobs the cars into the disposal barge. He just kind of pitches them. That's a Kia low and to the left. Kind of like casting with a dragline.
To even be the one to put together the operation of retrieving these vehicles is as impressive as doing the work itself. Not something just anybody could put together, very cool indeed 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I would hate the job of stripping out those cars it all looks so precarious one on top of another, some in the fore zone with tie down straps burnt through. The way the hull is turned the hull strip down will also be a challenge, so much easier if they had been top up. Thanks Andy for posting and good to see you out and about, stay safe out there on the briny.
These "Death ships" should be banned it is totally unacceptable to cram this many cars into such a confined space if these were live animals there would be an outcry legislation is needed to regulate the maximum number of vehicles to no more than 500 Also the motor industry should move towards the containerisation of cars as everything else goes in containers these days.cars like motorcycles should be shipped in boxes that are watertight had all these been in protective boxes they would have survived unharmed.
That grapple machine is something. It's operator sure is skilled. I'd bet he enjoys his job. Ida has no doubt shredded the coast of Louisiana. I am sure it is hard on the crews working in Georgia who are from Cajun country to be away from their families having to face the storm. Glad to see you continue to be on the mend, Capt. Andy. Just continue to take it slow and easy. I know how hard it is being older to recover from a health situation. Thank you for your resumed postings in spite of your health issues. Take care Capt. Andy.
Great videos again today Cap. Andy. But the the thing I to convey to you today is, how glad I am to see you up and about. It is so good to have you back. Looking forward to you showing us video of The Sound with the wreck of the Golden Ray gone.
Seeing the cars that have been removed from just one section, it’s hard to comprehend the scale of the carnage. Looks like a bunch of dirty, rusty toy cars. It’s hard to imaging the scope of the financial losses, just for the destroyed cars, never mind the ship itself!
Hey Andy, You have done a wonderful job covering the Golden Ray project. Please stay in touch. I hope you continue to cover all future stories. Glad you are feeling better. Love you Andy!! Susan and Leo Romsiewicz Kennesaw, Ga
You sound better today. If the Anna was the RV for Sapelo, I may have gone our on her during an icthyology field trip from UGA in 1972. It was a rough trip that day and they couldn't do much trawling, and practically everyone got sick. I didn't but I went below and went to sleep on the trip back in. Long time ago, but a fond memory.
"At the time of its demise, the ship was carrying about 4,300 Kia, Chevrolet, GMC, GM, Mercedes-Benz, and Ram vehicles, according to a report from Car and Driver."
Glad to see you up on deck Andy! Great work with the drone today! Very interesting to see what the crews have been up to. I noticed the pool of oily waste accumulating on that barge. You can't set a car on its side for long without it leaking fluids everywhere. I read that there's a team inbound to the LA site handling the recycling to assist with decontaminating the wreck sections there before they can be demolished. I got the impression they would not be accepting much additional debris there beyond the empty wreck itself. Now we may know why. Your drone shots show how little ship's structure there is once you get the debris removed, and none of it was designed to support itself laying on its side. I have to wonder at some point if it would not be cheaper to partially demolish each section to reduce its profile, and make it much more stable to transport and cleaner to deal with once it gets there. I can't imagine trying to tow that in a fresh breeze off Florida.
Another great video Capt. Andy. I wonder if they will use the same process junkyards use. Put the entire frame of the car in a box and compact it, then ship it off/truck it off, for further processing? For the Anna, it would be an interesting trip to retrace the step your grandfather did when he was her captain with an explanation of what the ship did back in the day. That would be fun and educational. Kudos to the coordination/skill of the operator of the blue grappler. Again, thanks for another great video.
Really glad to see you getting around better good drone videos that guy was a pretty good operator take care of yourself will be looking forward to the next video👍
Thank you for exposing this vile trade which is the vehicular equivalent of the factory ships that transport live cattle which thankfully have now been banned Action must be taken to end the mass shipping of unprotected cars by limiting the maximum number of 500 per ship & for cars to be shipped in protective boxes ( like motorcycles are) so should the unthinkable happen at least they will be unharmed & can go on to lead a normal life. This is without a doubt the worlds worst single pre registration vehicle death tragedy regarding the huge number involved & the industry must take action to ensure a tragedy involving such a huge vehicular death toll NEVER EVER HAPPENS AGAIN.Those responsible for this terrible massacre should be brought to justice & should end up in jail.
This is absolutely mind-blowing to me... The sheer size of the ship... The number of cars.... Seeing the cars still attached and strap down to the deck, while it's sitting sideways, is one of the craziest parts for me. But to just look at and see how many brand new cars are just destroyed... Was there a total number of cars released? And the total cost of the loss? The whole thing is just staggering. Great video though, thank you so much for sharing!

The Grapple guy does a good job. The Anna is an awesome boat. I would pay to go on a charter in it. So cool your Grandfather was the captain on it. Hope it's staying in your area Captain Andy. Thank you for another great video! Take care

Andy, really good to see you in a more "shipshape" condition! Great to ses you again! One thing puzzles me a bit. On a previous video, and again today, it looks like the keel of section 6 has a rectangular hole cut in it. Am I jusr seeing things? If it is, in fact, a hole who cut it and why? Possibly firefighting?
Great story from the building of the Monterey Bay Aquarium about 30 years ago. When they were getting close to opening, the aquarium decided they wanted a picture of all the construction workers. They all assembled on the ocean side deck and put the photographer in the concrete bucket on the crane that was there. They swung the bucket out about 150 away from the shore over the ocean. Word then quickly spread among the crews about what was going to happen next. The operator started to slowly lower the bucket to the level the photographer wanted. He took all the pictures he needed then motioned to the operator to take him back up. Instead the bucket began to slowly lower into the water until the photographer was chest high in the water, with the workers howling with laughter.
There is a manifest floating around on the internet that listed most of what was onboard. Some were listed as “POV” or privately owned vehicle. Thanks again for the absolutely great reports! This one was another good one. I'm glad you are taking better care of yourself. Stay safe Captain Andy and we will see you next time!
Gives new meaning to the phrase ‘going to pick up a new car…’ The crane operator will be throwing them in to help them crush down a little more, don’t want them shifting about out on the water.
Had these people simply answered their phone their cars would have been covered by the extended warranty.
LMAO !!!
This comment should be pinned!🤣

you're right Dave. A dab of spray paint, throw it in a box, put it on the shelf. So the big question is, do you call it new or reman?

The mess this caused is incredible. Nothing to salvage other than absolute scrap.
On, maybe a few tires and wheels, engines on vehicles on top, dashboard knobs, and other scavenged crumbs.
